When love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> is bound to come up with a <keyword id="24069" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="romantic-comedy">romantic comedy</keyword>. But when ad film-maker <keyword id="1612592" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vinil-Mathew">Vinil Mathew</keyword>’s directorial debut <keyword id="1520199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hasee-Toh-Phasee">Hasee Toh Phasee</keyword> hit the screen a week before <keyword id="4167782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="V-day">V-Day</keyword> (February 7), it turned out to be a better love feast than the run-of-the-mill romances. Much of the credit goes to the lead duo – <keyword id="562349" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parineeti-Chopra">Parineeti Chopra</keyword> and <keyword id="1320874" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sidharth-Malhotra">Sidharth Malhotra</keyword> – and the <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword>, of course, who tweaked all the usual Bollywood masala into an earthy and sharp reality without stripping the flick of its dream elements. And going by the <keyword id="2034852" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-numbers">box office numbers</keyword>, we dare say that the audience loves those experiments garbed in the feel-good raiment. In other words, this Parineeti-Sidharth starrer has different offerings at different levels – whether you take it as an arty-commercial experiment or just another love story, with some nuances that can push you out of your comfort zone. 
 So how has the film fared at the box office so far? The Rs 25 crore <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword>, jointly produced by <keyword id="3778" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Karan-Johar">Karan Johar</keyword>’s <keyword id="62161" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharma-Productions">Dharma Productions</keyword> and <keyword id="7929" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anurag-Kashyap">Anurag Kashyap</keyword>’s <keyword id="1352720" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Phantom-Productions">Phantom Productions</keyword>, hit about 2,000 screens across the country and grossed around Rs 17-18 crore at home during the first weekend, according to industry estimates. <keyword id="1861689" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="overseas-collection">Overseas collection</keyword>s stood at a little over $1 million. The <keyword id="2014761" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Occupancy-rate">occupancy rate</keyword> was 50-80% during the opening weekend and stayed at 50% on the crucial Day 4 (February 10) in the domestic market, bringing in around Rs 6 crore. Overseas collection on the 4th day was around Rs 1.5 crore. However, the movie is expected to do much better at the box office during the <keyword id="2054858" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="V-Day-week">V-Day week</keyword>. 
 
Karan Johar is also happy with the way things are going. “Thank you for the immense love and appreciation for Hasee Toh Phasee, a film I am extremely proud of,” he tweeted on Sunday. 
 
The rom-com is expected to ride on critical acclaim and we feel that is justified to some extent. For one, director Vinil Mathew (best known for his Cadbury: Kuch meetha ho jaye commercials) knows how to tell a good story, blending reality with cinematic magic. And writer <keyword id="1989065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Harshvardhan-Kulkarni">Harshvardhan Kulkarni</keyword> has aptly supported him. The film is essentially a quirky love story between <keyword id="19563" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="meeta">Meeta</keyword> (Parineeti) and Nikhil (Sidharth) – a modern-day take about life, love and relationships. Consequently, you see a runaway professional and a turbulent soul in Meeta, who has brains but takes drugs, steals money from her family and tries to whisk off her sister <keyword id="5405" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Karishma">Karishma</keyword>’s (<keyword id="16234" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adah-Sharma">Adah Sharma</keyword>) fiancé who is also a long-time friend of Meeta. Sidharth, on the other hand, is a more staid character with his commitments firmly in place. The resulting story weaves the chemistry between the odd pair while <keyword id="6362839" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manoj-Joshi">Manoj Joshi</keyword> does some good work as Meeta and Karishma’s father. 
 
But one still wonders why all the soul-searching and putting life into order need to happen immediately before a crucial marriage, à la Mere Brother Ki Dulhan? Only this time, we have a runaway bridegroom, instead of the bride walking away from the mandap as is the Bollywood wont. But Parineeti is the real star cast here – bright, gorgeous, self-willed and passionate – and wins hearts in spite of her over-the-top acting. Sidharth, too, is out on a self-quest and looks laudable. But it’s the cliché plot that mars the good efforts. There are nice elements, but they come in bits and pieces, and finally, Hasee Toh Phasee remains a commercial candyfloss. 
 
One just wonders what would have happened if Parineeti and Sidharth went through the same experiences post the marriage between Adah and Sidharth. But that might have been too much off the track for Bollywood and the Indian audience who did not receive the offbeat theme of Nishabd well. Let us see if Hasee Toh Phasee can join the 100 crore club. 
 
 
 
<keyword id="805778" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Heartless">Heartless</keyword>: Commendable efforts lose steam, again Medical thrillers are pretty rare in Bollywood and we pinned our hopes on <keyword id="17186" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shekhar-Suman">Shekhar Suman</keyword>’s directorial debut Heartless, starring his son <keyword id="20393" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adhyayan">Adhyayan</keyword>, along with <keyword id="20398" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="deepti-naval">Deepti Naval</keyword>, <keyword id="6381489" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Om-puri">Om Puri</keyword> and newcomer <keyword id="1935232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ariana-Ayam">Ariana Ayam</keyword> (she hails from New York). The movie also released on February 7 and hit about 800 screens all over the country. But unlike Hasee Toh Phasee, this one had a poor start in spite of a great storyline – essentially borrowed from the American crime/supernatural/conspiracy thriller <keyword id="106100" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Awake">Awake</keyword>. Surprisingly, the box office numbers are not officially available yet but according to one estimate, Heartless has grossed a little over Rs 1 crore in the opening weekend. That is, indeed, shocking. 
 A close look at the movie, however, confirms our fear that it could be a box office flop. Rich boy <keyword id="138003" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Singh">Aditya Singh</keyword> (<keyword id="6354939" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adhyayan-Suman">Adhyayan Suman</keyword>), who needs a <keyword id="6397601" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="heart-transplant">heart transplant</keyword>, falls in love with fortune-hunter <keyword id="80068" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ria">Ria</keyword> (Ariana Ayam) and secretly marries her before the surgery. But once he is under the knife, all hell breaks loose. There is conspiracy going on to kill him with a <keyword id="2054863" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Poisoned-transplant">poisoned transplant</keyword>, so that the wife can pocket the insurance money. Adhyayan’s friend and <keyword id="6382875" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="surgeon">surgeon</keyword> <keyword id="2054864" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dr-Sameer-Saxena">Dr Sameer Saxena</keyword> (Shekhar Suman) is also in cahoots. 
 During the surgery, the truth dawns upon the hero as he goes into <keyword id="2054865" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anaesthesia-awareness">anaesthesia awareness</keyword>, a medical condition where the patient is conscious enough to understand everything, but cannot move. Finally, his mother <keyword id="489622" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gayatri-Singh">Gayatri Singh</keyword> (Deepti Naval) commits suicide to make the transplant happen; Om Puri, as <keyword id="2054866" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dr-Sanjay-Trehan">Dr Sanjay Trehan</keyword>, manages to save him and all the baddies are arrested at the end. There’s nothing wrong with the story except for the fact that medical thrill becomes hilarious comedy during the second half and Adhyayan still looks pretty stiff although the mother-son relation has been played out well. Maybe the BO numbers will pick up as soon as the audience gets used to the comical activities that take place in the OT. But can it still be touted as Adhyayan’s comeback movie? 
 
<keyword id="1977299" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Babloo-Happy-Hai">Babloo Happy Hai</keyword>, <keyword id="828628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ya-Rab">Ya Rab</keyword> fail to make the cut The other two releases of the week also failed to make the cut at the box office in spite of some serious themes. Directed by <keyword id="475774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nila-Madhab-Panda">Nila Madhab Panda</keyword> (of Jalpari and I am Kalam fame), Babloo Happy Hai has a meaningful message about <keyword id="19472" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="aids">AIDS</keyword> and how people can still live a full life. But the movie has a <keyword id="110559" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Limited-release">limited release</keyword> and hit only about 350-plus screens. It has grossed a little over Rs 15 lakh on the opening day, according to TalkingMoviez.com. 
 
Hasnain Hyderabadwala-directed Ya Rab depicts the eternal conflict between <keyword id="70629" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Humanity">humanity</keyword> and <keyword id="2054867" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parochial-attitude">parochial attitude</keyword>, and how <keyword id="1013184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="religious-fundamentalism">religious fundamentalism</keyword> can lead to <keyword id="6358165" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="terrorism">terrorism</keyword>. But once again, lack of promotion has failed to create buzz for this movie, co-produced by <keyword id="6370367" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahesh-Bhatt">Mahesh Bhatt</keyword>. Made on a budget of Rs 2.5 crore, the movie has been released in 300-plus theatres and the Friday collections stood in the range of Rs 20 lakh-plus. Overall, <keyword id="434916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood-box-office">Bollywood box office</keyword> hasn’t witnessed too many ripples even now but movie-goers are having a gala time, sampling different genres. That’s definitely a big plus and we are waiting for more.

Phasee Wins Hearts; Heartless Fails To Retain The Thrill

The invitees to the consecration ceremony at the <keyword id="41267" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-temple" source="Orion">Ram temple</keyword> continued to arrive at the temple town on Monday morning with locals and devotees gathering on both sides of the road waving saffron flags and dancing to the tunes of songs dedicated to Lord Ram. Religious fervour gripped <keyword id="6354931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ayodhya" source="Orion">Ayodhya</keyword> with biting cold failing to dampen the spirits of those who have flocked here to witness the historic moment. The holy town is all set to welcome Lord Ram with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to participate in the consecration ceremony. The invitees who arrived early this morning included RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Anupam Kher, Kailash Kher, Jubin Nautiyal, Prasson Joshi, Manoj Joshi, <keyword id="19919207" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sachin-tendulkar" source="keywords">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword>, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, <keyword id="20284870" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ravishankar-prasad" source="keywords">Ravishankar Prasad</keyword> and Anil Ambani. "The prime minister will also interact with 'shramjeevis' associated with the construction of the temple," a member of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which is in charge of the construction and management of the Ram temple, said. Modi will also visit Kuber Tila, where an ancient Shiv temple has been restored. He will perform a 'pooja' there, the member said. The magnificent Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir has been constructed in the traditional Nagara style. Its length (east-west) is 380 feet, width 250 feet and height 161 feet. It is supported by 392 pillars and has 44 doors. The pillars and walls of the temple showcase intricately sculpted depictions of Hindu deities, gods and goddesses. The idol of Ram Lalla has been placed in the sanctum sanctorum on the temple's ground floor. The consecration rituals for the 'Pran Pratishtha' started from the Saryu river on January 16 and will be completed on Monday afternoon on the 'Abhijeet Muhurta', according to the trust. Lakhs of people are expected to watch the event live on TV and online platforms as the Central government has announced a half-day off on January 22 and many states followed suit. Temples across the country have announced special festivities on the occasion. From Washington DC to Paris to Sydney, events have been also planned in various parts of the world by either the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) or Hindu diaspora groups. Fourteen couples from various parts of India will be the 'yajmaans' (hosts) for the 'Pran Pratishtha' of the new 51-inch idol of Ram Lalla. The idol was sculpted by Mysuru-based Arun Yogiraj and was placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple last Thursday. The Ram temple has been decorated with "rich stocks" of flowers and special lights and the entire city is drenched in religious fervour. Streetlights on flyovers have been decorated with artwork depicting Lord Ram as well as cutouts of bow and arrow, and ornamental lampposts carry designs themed on the traditional "<keyword id="20268635" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ramanandi-tilak" source="keywords">Ramanandi tilak</keyword>". A multi-layer security cover is in place in Ayodhya for the consecration ceremony, with 10,000 CCTV cameras and drones equipped with artificial intelligence keeping an eye on the movement of people. Police personnel in plain clothes have been deployed at the venue. Movable barriers with barbed wires attached to them can be spotted at every prominent crossroads in the temple town, as police use them to regulate traffic, especially during VVIP movements. Multiple NDRF teams trained to tackle chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks, drowning incidents and disasters like earthquakes have also been deployed. While more than 7,000 people are on the list of invitees for the event, the select list features 506 A-listers. Business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are among the prominent people invited to the event. Those attending the "Pran Prathishtha" also include people linked to the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation. Almost all opposition leaders invited to the ceremony have declined to be in attendance, with the Congress calling it a "BJP-RSS event". Coronavirus: Central team visits Mumbai hospital, civic body

Mumbai, Apr 29 () The central team, which recentlyvisited Maharashtra to assess the COVID-19 situation, hasconcluded that the mortality rate of coronavirus positivepatients in Mumbai is less than the state's average, theBrihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Wednesday.The team also found that the doubling rate ofcoronavirus cases in this megapolis is lower than what isregistered by the state and the country, the civic body said.In a release, the BMC said that the doubling rate ofcoronavirus positive cases in the city has increased to 10days from 8.3 days between April 11 and 27, and the mortalityrate of patients declined to 3.9 per cent from 6.3 per cent inthe same period.Claiming that the central team praised the efforts ofthe civic body in containing the spread of the virus, the BMCrelease said that the doubling rate in the country is 9.5days, while the same on the state level is 8.9 days, whereasthe mortality rate in the state is 4.3 per cent.The central team concluded that the mortality rate ofCOVID-19 patients in Mumbai is less than the state's averageand the doubling rate is less than that of the state and thecountry, the BMC said.The central team, led by Manoj Joshi, AdditionalSecretary in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, hadlast week visited the state, including Mumbai, to monitor thetesting efforts, management of lockdown and supply chainissues in the state.The first coronavirus positive case was found inMumbai on March 11 and the number of such cases in the cityhas now crossed the 6,000-mark.The BMC claimed that it is taking all possible effortsto contain the spread of the disease and till April 26, it hassearched 1,29,477 contacts including 21,053 high risk contactsof the positive patients since the first patient was found inthe city.The corporation said that the contact tracking helpedit to find 1,647 coronavirus positive cases.According to BMC release, the city also tops in thenumber of tests done to find out coronavirus positive cases.The BMC has conducted 66,000 tests, which calculatesto 5,071 tests per lakh population, while in Tamil Nadu,Rajasthan, New Delhi and Kerala states conducted 2624, 1220,794 and 684 tests per lakh population respectively, it said. Mumbai, Apr 23 () Maharashtra Chief Minister UddhavThackeray on Thursday said that his government's focus was toreduce the mortality rate of COVID-19 patients and increasethe period during which the number of positive cases double.He made the remarks during his video-conferenceinteraction with the members of two central teams that touredMumbai and Pune cities, the two coronavirus hotspots in thestate.The teams took a review of the medical machinery,implementation of the lockdown measures and social distancing,safety of health workers and situation of labourers in sheltercamps, supply of essential goods, among other things.A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office(CMO) said that Thackeray told the teams that reducing themortality rate of COVID-19 patients and increasing the periodof doubling of positive cases were his government's focus.At present, the period of doubling of patients in thestate is seven days, which has to be increased to more than 10days, Thackeray told the teams.He asked the state administration to take intoconsideration all the suggestions made by the central teams.The teams expressed satisfaction that the governmentwas carrying out more tests to detect the positive cases.The statement said that 78.9 per cent of the patients,who died due to the infection, had other ailments and were inthe age group of 51 to 60 years.Additional Secretary Manoj Joshi is leading the five-member team in Mumbai, while the Pune team is being led bySanjay Malhotra, Additional Secretary in the Ministry ofPower.Thackeray said that PPE kits may be required inadditional numbers at a later stage and it is important thatthe central government makes them available expeditiously.At the local level, some companies are manufacturingPPE kits, for which the central government guidelines arenecessary, he said.He also said that the state administration shouldfollow all the guidelines given by the central teams.Joshi suggested that institutional quarantinefacilities should be increased. He also called for the need tohave focused testing, hygiene in slum pockets, shifting ofquarantine facilities from congested areas, like Dharavi, toother places, starting nursing homes and private dispensaries.Stating that there are complaints that non-COVID-19patients are suffering due to the unavailability of medicalfacilities, Thackeray asked the authorities to take steps sothat such things do not happen. He also instructed them tostart nursing homes and clinics for other patients soon.Maharashtra Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta told thecentral teams that the state is conducting COVID-19 tests sixtimes more than being done in Kerala.Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Pravin Pardeshi said4,270 persons per 10 lakh population are being tested in themetropolis. Reducing Maha's COVID-19 mortality rate govt's priority: CM

It has Siddharth Nigam in the lead role, the child actor who rose to fame after Dhoom 3. The show unfolds the saga of the great king Ashoka, and his transition from just another prince to one of the greatest rulers of the world. 
 
Other than Siddharth, the show has an ensemble cast of Manoj Joshi, Pallavi Subhash and Sameer Dharmadhikari, and Sumit Kaul. 
Manoj Joshi, who is donning the role of Chanakya, is quite known for seamlessly portraying the character in a play titled Chanakya for years now. 
 
Pallavi Subhash plays Queen Dharma, Ashoka’s mother. As per the advertisements being run for the show, Ashoka builds the whole empire for the honour of his mother. 
 
Playing the role of King Bindusara is Sameer Dharmadhikari, who has been in many historical and mythological shows like Jhansi Ki Rani, Buddha and Mahabharat. 
 
What makes this show different from others is the massive set that has been set up in the town of Karjat, 60 kms from Mumbai. Since the show is about the lives of Kings and Queens, the set had to be massive and the makers made sure that the audience gets a glimpse into the royalty. 
 
Talking of the producers, the show has been produced by Cantiloe, the production company behind shows like Veer Shivaji, Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, and Jhansi Ki Rani.

However, there is another section of society which seems to be all geared up for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and that section belongs to our very own <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>. 
 The day the campaign was launched, PM Modi had nominated nine people for doing their bit for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Of these 9 people, three names belonged to Bollywood and the they were: <keyword id="6354603" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kamal-Haasan">Kamal Haasan</keyword>, Priyanka Chopra and <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>. 
 
The first one to take up to the good cause was (no points for guessing) Salman Khan, who has been associated with several other humanitarian works. On October 2nd, he tweeted: 
 
Me &amp; my Foundation accept the invite from our honourable Prime Minister for Swachh Bharat and will give our 100% for #MyCleanIndia [sic] 
 
On October 22nd, he posted photos of him cleaning some garbage in Karjat, where he is shooting for his next film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. 
 
 
 
Seen with him in the images were his co-stars actors Neil Nitin Mukesh and Manoj Joshi. 
 
Actor Kamal Haasan thanked the Prime Minister in an interview and said that he had been doing something similar for the past 20 years. 
"I think this cleansing is something I have been doing for the past 20 years with the help of my fans who have converted into a social service organisation. My work continues. It is not a public relations exercise. As far as I am concerned it is a public work I am part of," he had said. 
 The next in line was the Bollywood heartthrob <keyword id="6354563" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hrithik-Roshan">Hrithik Roshan</keyword>, who posted pictures from his neighbourhood in Juhu on 26th October. His tweet read:

 The next one to pick up the broom was megastar <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword>, who posted the pictures in which he is seen cleaning a Mumbai road on 30th October. The tweet read: 
 
T 1659 - The 'Swach Bharat Abhiyaan' .. personalised !! Let everyone deserve to be involved. [sic] 
 
 
 Later on November 8th, Bollywood dream girl <keyword id="2733" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hema-Malini">Hema Malini</keyword>, who is also the Member of Parliament from the Mathura constituency, cleaned the lanes of Gandhi Park in Vrindavan. 
 
 
 Meanwhile, filmmaker <keyword id="4993" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shekhar-Kapur">Shekhar Kapur</keyword> had his own way of taking up the good cause, and he didn’t have to pick up a broom for this one. On October 5th, he had tweeted an empty water bottle with a beautiful natural backdrop with the caption that read: 
 
I pledge 2 pick up rubbish left by others that destroy our Nation's natural beauty and pit it in a bin. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/CleanIndia?src=hash">#CleanIndia</a> [sic] 
 
 
 
Today, actress Priyanka Chopra has posted a video of how she and her team revamped a slum of Versova, Mumbai. While PC was one of the nine people who were nominated by Modi himself, it took her this long because she didn’t only want to clean the streets but also to change the mindsets. In the video posted on her YouTube channel, the actress can be seen cleaning the streets, painting the walls and planting flowers in the slum area so that the place remains clean and hygienic forever, and not for the day that she was there.
