<ul><li><keyword id="7681538" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra-CFO">Tech Mahindra CFO</keyword> <keyword id="388883" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manoj-Bhat">Manoj Bhat</keyword> is happy with the budget but feels more could have been done to address the needs of the IT services industry specifically.</li><li>Taxation, for instance, could have been simplified to ease the cost of doing business across multiple geographies.</li><li>Since the IT services industry has been a huge job creator in India, it would also have been helpful if there were more incentives for employment generation.</li></ul>India’s latest budget did acknowledge the role of technology in economic revival. For instance, the government plans to introduce e-courts for faster resolution of disputes. It also earmarked ₹1,500 crore to dole our financial incentives for digital transactions. However, what the IT services players in India, like <keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword>, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), wanted to see was some relief on taxes and incentives for job creation. “I think the government has come up with a budget that is investment oriented. In a lot of ways that ticks a lot of the boxes. But, specifically for IT services, there’s nothing there,” Tech Mahindra CFO, Manoj Bhat told Business Insider in an exclusive interview. Taxation is getting more complicated world over The industry lobby, NASSCOM, hoped for some clarity on the tax framework with more employees working from home — a trend that many companies plan to stick to in some form or the other in the long run. “As companies like us become larger and operate in so many countries, helping us work through some easier tax situations esp in international context whether its around transfer pricing or some of the other laws that are coming through would have been nice,” said Bhat. Transfer pricing relates to the prices charged by different entities — located in different jurisdictions — for goods and services. The tax rules related to transfer pricing are complex. Governments, in India and abroad, are becoming increasingly proactive in scrutinising transfer pricing policies and practices. The IT services industries is a big job creator At a time when the Indian economy needs a demand boost, Tech Mahindra’s CFO also believes that the budget could have done with adding some incentives for job creation. “That’s something they should consider perhaps in terms of continuing some of the benefits that were offered in the past few years that are no longer there,” said Bhat. In the past, the sector has been a huge boon for creating new opportunities and helping the economy grow. NASSCOM estimates that the $200 billion industry created over 200,000 new jobs in 2019 — a year that saw massive unemployment in India. “We require WFH to be enabled in SEZs (Special Economic Zones on a long-term basis. Since this requires movement of duty-free goods like laptops etc outside the SEZs, the Finance Ministry should provide the requisite clarifications under Customs and GST,” said NASSCOM in their pre-budget expectations. Even though bigger players can do without the incentives, smaller and upcoming IT companies would have welcomed the relief. The demand for talent is also on the rise as businesses that were once hesitant about going digital are bringing up their timelines to ensure that their customers can still reach them even if stepping out of the house isn’t an option. INTERVIEW: Two things on Tech Mahindra CFO’s wishlist for the Budget 2021-22 that were left unaddressed

New Delhi, Apr 30 () IT services firm Tech Mahindra on Thursday reported 29 per cent fall in consolidated net profit at Rs 803.9 crore for the March quarter, 2019-20.The firm had logged a profit of Rs 1,132.5 crore in the year-ago same period, Tech Mahindra said in a statement.The net profit (excluding impairment) was at Rs 1,021 crore. Revenue during the latest quarter stood at Rs 9,490.2 crore, up 6.7 per cent from Rs 8,892.3 crore in the year-ago period, as per Indian Accounting Standards.Earnings per share (EPS) was at Rs 9.14 for the March quarter.For 2019-20, the company's net profit was at Rs 4,033 crore, while revenue was at Rs 36,867.7 crore. COVID-19 has brought an unprecedented change in business model for the IT industry, Tech Mahindra Managing Director and CEO CP Gurnani said."While the demand traction seen through the first three quarters of Fiscal 19-20 has reversed in Q4, we expect that the focus on Digital Transformation, Remote Working, and Network Modernisation will recover in the medium term," he said.He added that the company has shown a strong growth for FY20 and remains committed to deliver sustainable solutions to customers enabling them to adopt to the "new normal".Manoj Bhat, Chief Financial Officer of Tech Mahindra, said the fourth quarter saw some of its metrics being impacted by the environmental challenges. "Efficient operations, cost optimisation and delivery automation will be the key focus areas going into the next year," he added.Bhat said the company's strong balance-sheet combined with a focus on cash conservation will help it "tide over the volatility in near term" as it looks to emerge stronger and leaner to capture opportunities ahead.Its total headcount was at over 1.25 lakh, up by 4,154 year-on-year. However, since COVID-19 pushed so many businesses to expedite their digital journey, the demand for these skills is higher than ever. “I see some of the skills which are high in demand, but clients are willing to pay a premium because of the pace of change. What is impacting us, is also impacting our clients,” Vivek Agarwal, the head of corporate development and global head for healthcare and financial Services at Tech Mahindra told Business Insider in an exclusive interaction. A study by <a href="https://nasscom.in/knowledge-center/publications/futureskills-talent-india-demand-supply-analysis">NASSCOM</a> estimates that India’s demand for digital talents is around eight times larger than the size of its fresh talent pool. In another three years, this demand is expected to be twenty times greater than the available manpower. Analysts <a href="https://www.livemint.com/market/mark-to-market/tech-mahindra-s-stellar-margins-steal-the-show-but-may-not-sustain-11611933180424.html">caution</a> that hiring based on specific talents could come at a higher cost. This could possibly impact the stellar margins that Tech Mahindra has seen over the past two quarters. “Talent availability is trumping the ‘rate discussion’ right now for a lot of these ‘very much in demand’ skills,” said Agarwal. Tech Mahindra has four vertices in its line of sight According to Tech Mahindra’s CFO, Manoj Bhat, the company will be doubling down on four vertices — communications, manufacturing, healthcare and BFSI. “That is where our investments are going to be,” he told Business Insider. And, within these vertices, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital is where the company is looking for the right set of skills. “Full chain execution — where somebody can deliver a program effectively — is more important to clients than just finding the right individual talent,” explained Agarwal. More deals, more money, and the need for more talent According to Bhat, Tech Mahindra’s pipeline today may be at an ‘all time high’. “It’s a very big pipeline today. We should see acceleration of deal wins going into Q4 and beyond, hopefully,” he said. And, with more deal wins, having the right talent on hand is more important than ever. COVID-19 has highlighted the drawbacks of what happens when a business doesn’t go digital, which is why businesses want ways to access their customers in a manner that is not solely dependent on a physical connection, according to Bhat. “A lot of customers are also looking at total outsourcing in a very different manner, which will then allow them some sayings on their operational spends, which will help fund a lot of these initiatives,” he explained. On the one hand, talent is going to get more expensive as the demand-supply gap widens. But, at the same time ‘work from anywhere’ is going to help expand the fresh talent pool as Indian IT services companies like Tech Mahindra look to capitalise on the third wave of outsourcing. The roll-out of the new network has slipped on the list of priorities for many in the battle against the pandemic. Even though Tech Mahindra’s focus is squarely on 5G, there is a lack of clarity around the timeline, according to Motilal Oswal. While the IT services company will definitely gain if and when 5G emerges full throttle, especially as a partner with the Japanese Rakuten Mobile, it won’t likely be in the current fiscal year. “Activity in the telecom sector is starting to happen, both in the IT and networks side. But the network side revival has been slower. It has grown slower than the rest of the business. We still believe 5G will appear more in FY 22, and not in the current fiscal,” Tech Mahindra CFO Manoj Bhat told Business Insider in an interview last month. Currently, Tech Mahindra sees 5G as a $63 to $83 billion opportunity between 2020 to 2025. According to <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/markets/tech-mahindra-stock-hits-an-all-time-high-on-bullish-analyst-ratings">Jefferies</a>, the company is well-placed to leverage the 5G cycle once it kicks off. A new strategy for cloud and platforms Global spending on cloud services is expected to hit $1 trillion in 2024 spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC). The strongest growth in the ‘as a service’ category set to account for more to 60% of cloud revenues worldwide. Within that, Tech Mahindra is targeting the smallest cloud category — infrastructure build. This includes hardware, software, and support for enterprise private clouds and service provider public clouds. According to the management, there are currently 73 large deals in the pipeline, which shows a 20% growth over the last six months. “Deal pipeline healthiest in the last four quarters,” noted <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/markets/tech-mahindra-stock-hits-an-all-time-high-on-bullish-analyst-ratings">Morgan Stanley</a>. Tech Mahindra's share price hits a new high as the company targets the $100 billion cloud opportunity and guns for 5G

New Delhi, Jan 31 () IT services firm Tech Mahindra on Friday reported a 4.7 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 1,145.9 crore for the December 2019 quarter.
 The Mumbai-based firm had registered a net profit (attributable to owners of the company) at Rs 1,202.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last fiscal, Tech Mahindra said in a statement.
 However, its revenue from operations grew 7.9 per cent to Rs 9,654.6 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 8,943.7 crore in the year-ago period, it added.
 Earnings per share (EPS) was at Rs 13.13. In dollar terms, the net profit was up 1.3 per cent sequentially to USD 160.6 million, while revenue grew 5.1 per cent to USD 1,353 million in the said quarter.
 This is a quarter of strong growth across the company's Communications and Enterprise businesses, Tech Mahindra Managing Director and CEO C P Gurnani said.
 "We continue to win marquee deals and are well poised to capitalise on new market opportunities with technology shifts like 5G, which continues to be a key focus area in the year ahead," he added.
 The company's total headcount was at 1,30,839 people, a reduction of 683 people from the September 2019 quarter.
 The company witnessed substantial operational and financial metrics improvement with healthy cash flow generation this quarter, Manoj Bhat, chief financial officer at Tech Mahindra said.
 "We continue to invest in emerging technologies and streamline delivery as we ready ourselves for the next phase of growth," he added.
 Tech Mahindra also announced the acquisition of 70 per cent stake in Bengaluru-headquartered Cerium Systems.
 "Cerium will boost the company's Engineering Services practice in VLSI (very large scale integration) and Embedded Software.
 "We continue to invest in niche digital assets complementing our service offerings. Cerium provides cutting edge solutions with a strong foothold in global semiconductor industry," Tech Mahindra Head of Corporate Development and Portfolio Companies Vivek Agarwal said.

Home-grown auto major <keyword id="6357096" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-Mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> on Friday reported a standalone <keyword id="394539" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="profit-after-tax">profit-after-tax</keyword> (PAT) of ₹163 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2021, on the back of robust sales of passenger vehicles and tractors. The Mumbai-based company, along with its subsidiary in the automotive sector Mahindra Vehicular Manufacturers Ltd, had reported a net loss of ₹3,255 crore for the January-March quarter of 2019-20 fiscal. On a consolidated basis, its PAT from continuing operations for the January-March period of 2021 stood at ₹1,635 crore, against a net loss of ₹588 crore in the year-ago quarter. Its revenue on standalone basis rose to ₹13,338 crore during the period under review from ₹9,005 crore in the fourth quarter of FY20, <keyword id="46869" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MM">M&amp;M</keyword> said in a statement. For the entire 2020-21 fiscal, the company posted a standalone PAT of ₹923 crore, up 25 per cent as compared with ₹740 crore in the 2019-20. Its standalone revenue during the last fiscal declined by 1 pc to ₹44,574 crore as against ₹44,866 crore in FY20. The consolidated revenue for January-March 2021 from operations stood at ₹21,456 crore as against ₹16,315 crore in the corresponding period of the last fiscal. For the entire 2020-21 fiscal, the company reported a consolidated PAT of ₹3,702 crore as compared with ₹2,713 crore in 2019-20. Its consolidated revenue from operations stood at ₹74,278 crore for the financial year 2020-21, as against ₹75,382 crore in 2019-20. The Mumbai-based automaker said overall demand for the company's passenger vehicle models remained robust in the fourth quarter of FY21. However, the global shortage of semiconductors impacted the production and sales for the quarter, it added. The company sold 1,06,333 units during the fourth quarter, up 18 per cent from 90,481 units in the fourth quarter of FY20. Total sales of PVs during the last fiscal however dropped by 26 per cent to 3,48,621 units, against 4,71,141 units in 2019-20. The automotive sector continued its focus on cost optimisation and reduced its fixed expenses by over ₹900 crore over the last two years and hence keeping its margin resilience even under challenging times, M&amp;M noted. The company sold 93,044 tractors duing the fourth quarter of 2021, as compared with 58,817 units in January-March period of FY20. In the entire last financial year, the company sold 3,51,431 tractors, up 18 per cent from 2,98,927 units in 2019-20. <ul><li>NASSCOM and Bank of America are at odds about the job cuts set to occur across the Indian IT industry in the ongoing fiscal year.</li><li>Bank of America asserts that up to three million people could find themselves unemployed as a result of automation while NASSCOM asserts that only 1.4 million are employed in the ‘low skill’ segment to begin with.</li><li>Companies in the Indian IT sector may continue to be ‘net hirers’ in FY22, but that doesn’t mean that people won’t be losing their jobs to software programs that can perform day-to-day tasks better than humans. </li></ul>India’s leading information technology (IT) lobby, NASSCOM, and analysts at Bank of America are sparring over how many employees in the sector are set to lose their jobs this year. However, according to NASSCOM, existing business process outsourcing (BPO) employees won’t be impacted by automation because most of the work that is being done now involves “higher end expertise”. That is to say, that ‘low skilled’ jobs have already been ‘filtered out’ — employees were either fired or upskilled — over the last few years. But one of its members, Tech Mahindra, disagrees.
