From their first restaurant at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gurgaon&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Gurgaon</a> in 2013 and their ever-crowded joint at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=khan+market&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Khan Market</a> to their recent foray into <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=noida&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Noida</a> with an outlet at <keyword id="6427591" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DLF-Mall-of-India">DLF Mall of India</keyword>, SodaottleOpenerWala and its food is hitting all the right notes. 
 
Business Insider decided to take an afternoon detour to the two-week old SodaottleOpenerWala, Noida to find out for ourselves if they’re doing the <keyword id="2136097" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="dhansak">dhansak</keyword> justice. 
 
 
FIRST THOUGHTS 
 
 
 
The restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/EXCLUSIVE-How-DLF-gave-the-country-Mall-of-India-its-first-destination-mall/articleshow/52025229.cms">DLF Mall of India</a>, the country’s largest mall and is bang opposite <keyword id="150626" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="HM">H&amp;M</keyword>, which works out perfectly in the favour of SodaBottleOpenerWala as almost everyone coming out of H&amp;M end up heading to the restaurant. 
 Mohit Singh, the manager of the Noida outlet echoes this thought, adding that this exact spot is a blessing in disguise when being around popular <keyword id="34615" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="restaurants">restaurants</keyword> such as Cafe Delhi Heights, Chili’s and <keyword id="98233" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mamagoto">Mamagoto</keyword>. 
 
The restaurant which opened its doors to the public barely two weeks back, starts its day at 12 pm and shuts its doors at 12 am. They do not take reservations and on any day, you are bound to notice a long line of people waiting patiently for their turn inside- an evidence to their popularity. 
 
We arrived at 12.45 pm and were escorted to our table by the manager. About 20 minutes later, the restaurant started filling up like a stadium before a cricket match. 
 
 
 
Naturally, the view outside was the familiar sight of a long queue of people waiting their turn. 
 
 
LOOK AND FEEL 
 
 
 
The Noida outlet has a modest space that can sit about 90 people at a time. 
 Undoubtedly, the old Irani cafe charm dominates every nook and corner of the interiors which is done up beautifully in bright colours aided aptly by the trademark red and white table cloth, lighting, the 70’s playlist and the wall decorations that are a throwback to the legend of <keyword id="1742714" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Irani-cafes">Irani cafes</keyword>. They’ve even managed to throw in a cute little Irani bakery amidst the space that makes you want to skip to dessert altogether. 
 
 
 
 
DRINKS 
 
The Drinks menu of SodaBottleOpenerWala is a delight to read, and as we found out, even better to taste. 
 
Apart from a variety of inhouse ‘chais,’ the menu feature unusual accompaniments to a meal such as Gaane nu Ras, Mawa Shake, Irani Falooda, Sekanji Bin and ofcourse the usual at every Irani cafe-Raspberry Soda. 
 
Our nostalgia for the city that never sleeps was at its peak once we saw ‘Ganne nu Ras’ (Rs 130) on the menu but unfortunately, we were told it was unavailable at the moment. 
 
 
 
Not worried by our minor setback, we instead went with Mrs SodaBottleOpenerWala’s Cold Coffee (Rs 130), which with its distinct flavour was one of the best cold coffees we’ve had, a Nimbu Soda (Rs 80) that arrived in a cute mason jar and was more than enough for two people and the delicious Raspberry Soda (150), which is undoubtedly the best in town. It’s time to say goodbye, Duke! 
 
Highly recommended: The Sekanji Bin (Rs 150); a Persian drink made from mint and dried plum, is refreshing and fairly equipped to beat the Delhi heat. 
 
 
STARTERS 
 
It is only when you go through the list of starters that you realise the true intentions of SodaBottleOpenerWala. 
 It not only wants you to relive the Parsi goodness, but also indulge you in the comfort of the local snacks of Mumbai, and thus a quick scan of the menu will reveal how Mumbai favourites (Kanda Bhajji, Grill Sandiwch, Vada Pav) are thrown in good measure amongst the Parsi offerings. (<keyword id="3349518" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kolmi-Fry">Kolmi Fry</keyword>, Chicken Farcha, Bun Maska, Tareli Macchi) 
 
 
 
We started off with the Vada Pav (Rs 60 per piece), which was undoubtedly better than what we’ve sampled in Delhi, but nowhere close to how it is in Mumbai. 
 
 
 
Next was the Kolmi Fry (Rs 395), a preparation of fried prawns with onions which was the star of the meal. Cooked to perfection, its delicious taste lingers on. (Be warned, it’s on the oily side.) 
 
 
 
We moved on to the Boneless Chicken Farcha (Rs 250), a classic Parsi style fried chicken, which was given a modern twist and served to us in the form of mini-cutlets of four. Unfortunately, it didn’t stand out as expected. 
 
Highly recommended: Eggs Kejriwal (Rs 175). Don’t ask questions, just go ahead and order it. SodaBottleOpenerWala’s version of it is an absolute stunner. 
 
 
MAIN COURSE 
 
The starters are bound to fill your stomach, so order accordingly if you want to take full advantage of the main course that is waiting to spoil you. The restaurant also serves combo meals (They include a main course and cutlets) in steel tiffin boxes that are a total value for money. 
 
 
 
If you’re aiming for the big guns, like us-order your heart away. We tasted the Salli Chicken (Rs 330), a traditional Parsi style chicken gravy with potato fries on top and were blown away with how soft the chicken was. Pairing it with Maska Pav (the softest we’ve ever had) is a good idea as it makes for a memorable meal. 
 
If you’re confused between the Dhansak (Rs 360/475) and Berry Pulao (Rs 425), choose the Dhansak. You won’t regret it. It’s quite close to the ones you get in Mumbai. 
 
Highly recommend: The Patra Ni Macchi (Rs 610). This dish is bound convert anyone into a fish-lover. 
 
 
DESSERT 
 
 
 
Deciding to give the freshly baked goodies a miss, we settled in for the Toblerone Mousse (Rs 125), which could’ve done with a little bit more of toblereone, but maybe we’re being greedy. 
 
Highly recommended: The Parsi Dairy Farm Kulfi (Rs 180) to wrap up the Mumbai nostalgia. 
 
 
MANAGEMENT SPEAK 
 
Mohit Singh, SodaBottleOpenerWala Noida’s restaurant manager tells us that in two weeks itself, the outlet has received overwhelming response, serving approximately 500 people on weekends and 300 on weekdays. The number is huge for a restaurant that caters to a niche audience with just one type of cuisine. 
 
 
 
He admits that though people show initial apprehension when they learn that they serve only Parsi cuisine. “We tell them to just come inside and taste one dish and if they are still not convinvced, then go. Most of the times, they end up staying,” Mohit adds. 
 
The only drawback of the restaurant, according to Mohit is the fact that they don’t have an alcohol license, yet. “That kind of restricts us, because we do amazing cocktails. But, just last weekend, we took a day license and served complimentary drinks to our patrons. They loved it.”

As reports surfaced that several high-end restaurants with multiple outlets in Delhi-NCR have delisted from <keyword id="13921938" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Swiggy-dineout" source="Orion">Swiggy Dineout</keyword> amid deep discounting concerns, reliable industry sources said on Thursday that most of those cafes and restaurants have also delisted themselves from other online food delivery platforms like <keyword id="11830133" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="zomato" botkeyword="" source="ET" sourcekeytype="COMPANY" meta.keywordsubtype="EQ" meta.aliasname="zomato" meta.entityname="Zomato Ltd." meta.entityid="57948" meta.seoname="zomato-ltd">Zomato</keyword>. The sources told IANS that only 20 brands with nearly 400 outlets have delisted from <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="Swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword> <keyword id="2199085" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dineout" source="Orion">Dineout</keyword>, and one of those brands even has nearly 250 dining outlets alone. "Restaurant partners on Swiggy Dineout have complete liberty to decide on how much discount they wish to offer to customers through their listing on the app," the spokesperson said. "Thousands of partners continue to join us each month and list on Swiggy Dineout and only a handful of restaurant partners have expressed their desire to delist from the platform. We continue to engage with restaurant partners and NRAI representatives to revisit their choices," the food delivery platform told IANS. In online food delivery platform Swiggy in May announced it has acquired Dineout, a dining out and restaurant tech platform, for an undisclosed sum. According to sources, it was a $120 million deal. Swiggy denies exodus of high-end cafes, restaurants amid deep discounting concerns

EasyRewardz has multiple clients across sectors – from RBL Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank to restaurants like Chilli’s, Mamagoto etc. As a part of customer relationship management (<keyword id="200550" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRM">CRM</keyword>), the SaaS-based company offers an outreach platform for loyalty programmes, rewards and more. “CRM Software has a market size of $48bn, and is seeing a 16% YoY increase globally, with APAC growing faster at over 20%. Will people come, read the calorie count and then leave the restaurant? Or instead of butter chicken they are going to order a salad?,” Kohli told Business Insider. The FHRAI has already written to the FSSAI, giving its inputs regarding the new guidelines. While Kohli said that he doesn’t disagree with the norms, it shouldn’t come as a mandate. “If the FSSAI wants to do this, it should be voluntary. In a period where we are already hit so badly, putting up these new norms… I would call it irrelevant,” said Kohli. Pradeep Shetty, the Sr Vice President of The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India said, “The intention of the FSSAI is noble, they want to bring down the trans fat. They don’t want India to go the way many western countries have. They aren’t prohibiting people from eating, but just to make an informed decision.” The standardization could still work for restaurants with a limited standard menu across the country – chains like McDonald’s, KFC, Dominos, among others. But it’s not going to be the same story for the very ‘Indian’ restaurants. Restaurants in India don’t have just one problem with the new labelling guidelines – in fact, the issues are going to be multifold. Kohli explained that having the new labelling guidelines means printed new menu cards leading to new marketing expenses, which are uncalled for. Moreover, the food at Indian restaurants is more often than not customised, which means customers have demands like “extra butter” or “make it with olive oil”. “That addition or deletion of butter makes all the difference in the calorific value. What we fear is more harassment for a sector that is already harassed,” he said. Counting the calories: The new global norm? Placing the calorie count on menu cards isn’t just a norm being introduced in India. It is already enforced in countries like the US and the UK as a measure to control obesity, albeit questionably. In fact, in the US a law was passed in 2018 that stated that any restaurant with 20 or more outlets will have to state the calorie count of its food items. Researchers at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/news/the-us-law-requiring-calorie-counts-on-menus-is-expected-to-save-tens-of-thousands-of-lives-and-over-10-billion-in-healthcare-costs-research-shows/articleshow/76324413.cms">conducted a study</a> that showed that such a move would produce $10-14 billion in healthcare cost savings and another $3-5 billion in societal cost savings. In India too, many brands have been following the standard of adding calorie count on menus even before it was a norm. “The customer today wants to know what they are consuming, how safe it is, where the produce came from, and so forth. To help with all these, it becomes essential for brands to help consumers with the required information, to keep their faith in the food they consume, and thereby, the brand. This will also develop cautious brand building practices across the board, guaranteeing quality output,” said Sagar Kochhar, Co-founder, Rebel Foods. While the policy has a long way to go, it poses another problem as well – how will the government keep a check on restaurants across the country. “That also means that restaurants will have to hire an expert to keep a check or define the calorie count, which is another added expense,” said Shetty. India has a hot new debate on its plate: Should the likes of Burger King, KFC and McDonald’s menus mention calories?

Spread over a period of 10 days, from August 12 until August 21, <keyword id="3110275" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DineFest">DineFest</keyword>, a bi-annual culinary discovery event will allow diners to enjoy a three-course prix fixe meals at 12 of Delhi’s finest informal dining <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=restaurants&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">restaurants,</a> at just a fraction of the a la carte rates. 
 Drawing inspiration from Restaurant Week-India’s largest fine dining event, DineFest will run simultaneously in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumba with a total of 42 <keyword id="34615" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="restaurants">restaurants</keyword> participating in this edition. 
 
The three-course fixed menu that boasts of ample vegetarian and non-vegetarian options can be availed at three time slots (1 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm), for both lunch and dinner at any of the 15 participating restaurants. 
 
In Delhi, the set menu is offered at a price of Rs 600 per individual, which is exclusive of applicable taxes, service charges as well as beverages or dishes ordered outside of the special DineFest menu. 
 
To make things even more interesting, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Small-Plates-Week-A-new-culinary-event-in-Mumbai-promises-small-servings-but-big-flavours/articleshow/52779567.cms">Nachiket Shetye and Mangal Dalal, the duo behind Cellar Door Hospitality,</a> the culinary events company organizing DineFest have also tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=zomato&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Zomato</a>, who are the official online partner for the event. 
 
As a result, diners also have an additional option to order their preferred three-course meal online and thus experience curated menus at a fraction of the a la carte rates from the comfort of their homes. 
 The DineFest Collection on <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> will feature all participating restaurants in each city, enabling diners to browse and discover great dining options. The Online Ordering option facilitated through Zomato will mark the first time that a Cellar Door experience will be available for home delivery. 
 
To make a reservation, head over to the DineFest website and choose the restaurant you visit to visit along with your preferred time slot. A booking fee of Rs 50 will be charged per reservation.

From Restaurant Week and Chef’s Table Week to <keyword id="3110275" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DineFest">DineFest</keyword> and <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food">Food</keyword> with Benefits, Nachiket Shetye (34) and Mangal Dalal (31), the chef-restaurateur-entrepreneur duo behind <keyword id="3110277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cellar-Door-Hospitality">Cellar Door Hospitality</keyword> have singlehandedly managed to not only introduce <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=mumbai&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mumbai</a> to a host of unique culinary concepts but have also ensured to innovate with every single event, time and again. 
 And, now they are back to introduce <keyword id="6358070" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> to yet another culinary concept – the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/SmallPlatesWeek/?fref=ts">Small Plates Week</a>. 
 The inaugural edition of <keyword id="3422102" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Small-Plates-Week">Small Plates Week</keyword> will run for 10 days, from June 17 to June 26 comprising 15 participating restaurants and will let diners sample a variety of dishes at a fraction of cost. 
 
For Rs 1,000 (exclusive of taxes and service charge) per person, diners can choose from a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=set+menu&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">set menu</a> of at least six <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=small+plates&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">small plates</a>, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian and follow it up with four desserts, and the good news is that they are free to reorder servings of any small plate they want to. 
 
There’s more. Some of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=restaurants&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">restaurants</a> also have items on the event menu that are otherwise not available in their menu. For instance, The Fatty Bao’s menu will include a selection of new dishes such as The Fatty and Egg Dessert and The Slow Cooked Apple and Filo Pastry Slice. 
 
 
 When asked about the inspiration behind introducing <keyword id="3422103" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Small-Plates">Small Plates</keyword> Week, Shetye tells us that it is in essence the reflection of the current scenario; wherein India, and to be specific, Mumbai is witnessing an influx of cafes and bars. 
 
“At a time like this, how does one decide which restaurant is worth checking out and, more importantly how do they know which dishes they should order? This is where we come in. With this event, we aim to help people discover new restaurants in the city,” he adds. 
 There’s also the fact that people nowadays are eating out in larger groups with their friends or families and as Indians, we love sharing our food. This says Shetye makes the concept of ‘Small Plates’ as a theme for a <keyword id="3422105" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="culinary-event">culinary event</keyword> a perfect fit. 
 
“The advantage of small plates is that you’re not limited to just two-three dishes and instead can sample a variety of dishes, in the process discovering dishes you might not have ordered otherwise,” he explains. 
 
 
 
Shetye also believes that one of the reasons the trend of small plates has caught up this quickly is because as Indians, we are already familiar with the concept. “Our Indian thalis itself consist of small servings of sabzi, farsan, dal, sweet etc, so it’s not like trend is alien to us. We’ve been eating like this for a long way.” 
 
Echoing his thoughts, Ashish Sajnani, Owner, Eat Thai, one of the participating restaurant says, “Though Indians are now experimenting with their food choices, they still remain price conscious. And, this is one of the reasons teh concept of small plates has clicked because it gives the customer the leeway to variety while still being inexpensive.” 
 
To decide on the list of participating restaurants, the team looked extensively at food reviews, talked to food bloggers and restaurants, conducted surveys and also ensured they approach establishments which actually do small plates, Shetye tells us. 
 
To his surprise, all the restaurants they approached in the process of finalising the 15 restaurants for Small Plates Week responded very encouragingly and were of the opinion that it would not only aid in their discovery but would also let them showcase the dishes they do well. 
 
 
 
For Chef Prashant of Fatty Bao, the aim of associating with events like Small Plates Week is to offer the joy and experience of a small plate meal to customers and thereby popularize the concept further. “Additionally, this will also help us draw in a new and relevant set of customers as well as showcase the philosophy behind the trendy Asian cuisine available at our restaurant.” 
 
All in all, Shetye hopes that Small Plates Week allows customers to have a good time, discover newer restaurants, try cuisines that are out of their comfort zones and aids in the concept catching on. 
 
Small Plates Week, which took the team almost six months to plan will also spread its wings to Delhi later this year.
