A total of 4,221,416 tests have been carried out across the country since the outbreak of the disease in February, with 38,950 done during the day, according to the statement. New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) Last minute filers of <keyword id="6355828" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="income-tax-returns">income tax returns</keyword> for <keyword id="44623" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Financial-Year">financial year</keyword> 2019-20 (assessment year 2020-21) need not worry about completing the <keyword id="50472" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="process">process</keyword> in time to beat the deadline. <keyword id="2236838" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Income-Tax-department">The Income Tax Department</keyword> has introduced the "Jhatpat Processing" feature that will allow processing of returns filed online on a real time basis with the taxpayer getting acknowledgement almost immediately. The feature will facilitate taxpayers, who have come almost close to the deadline of filing returns, and fear that even if returns are filed, their processing would make them miss the deadline and hence, liable for penalty. The tagline used by I-T Department for the scheme is "File karo jhat se, processing hogi pat se (file returns quickly and processing will done immediately)". Filing of I-T returns is mandatory for individuals drawing a certain amount of income. Though normally the deadline to file ITR is July 31 of the assessment year, due the disruptions cause by Covid-19 pandemic, the government has allowed taxpayers not requiring an audit to file their ITR by December 31, 2020 and those requiring audit to file ITR latest by January 31, 2021. With just days left for individuals to file their ITR, the new 'jhatpat processing' scheme is expected come handy to complete the process in time. The I-T Department said in its twitter handle that 'jhatpat processing' has started for ITR-1 and 4 and taxpayers can file their IT Return for AY 2020-21 by visiting the e-filing website -- incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. ITR-1 or 'Sahaj' is for individuals with total income upto ₹50 lakh, drawing salary, having one house, getting interest on bank savings and have agricultural income upto ₹5,000. On the other hand ITR-4 is for individuals, HUFs and firms (other than LLP) having total income up to ₹50 lakh and having income from business and profession. The I-T Department has said that the new scheme will only be available to individuals whose ITR is verified, <keyword id="6375891" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-account">bank account</keyword> is pre-validated, and there are no arrears, income discrepancy, TDS or challan mismatch. What the new scheme provides is that e-verification of returns can be done by taxpayers using one of the selected modes that includes registered mobile number, net banking, demat account number, bank ATM, bank account number, Aadhaar OTP and e-mail ID. Emami manufacturing units for Zandu brands get WHO-GMP quality certification

New Delhi, <keyword id="1564214" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-Enforcement-Directorate">The Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) on Wednesday said it has arrested three promoters of the <keyword id="4334121" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="agri-gold-group">Agri Gold Group</keyword> of Companies in a Ponzi Scheme Fraud Case worth ₹6,380 crore. Those arrested have been identified as Avva Venkata Rama Rao, <keyword id="10482453" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="avva-venkata-seshu-narayana-rao">Avva Venkata Seshu Narayana Rao</keyword>, Avva Hema Sundara Vara Prasad, who are the main accused under the sections of the prevention of money laundering act (PMLA). The accused were produced before <keyword id="10482454" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-ed-pmla-court">the ED PMLA Court</keyword>, Hyderabad, which granted them 14-day judicial custody. The ED had filed a case on the basis of multiple FIRs lodged in the Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. The scam was perpetrated by Avva Venkata Rama Rao through Agri Gold Group of Companies. Avva Venkata Rama Rao had earlier worked in the Golden Forest CIS Fraud scheme. The ED claimed that having learnt the tricks of the trade in that scheme, he hatched a well-planned conspiracy and along with his seven brothers and other associates set up more than 150 companies and started collecting deposits from general public with a promise of providing developed plots/farm lands or withdrawal at a high rate of return on maturity/pre-term. It said that thousands of commission agents were engaged to lure people with various schemes for hefty commission and managed to collect ₹6,380 crore from 32,02,628 such investors. In the end, the gullible investors neither got plots nor could recover their deposits. The group collected the deposits illegally from across the country. According to ED officials, the company duped lakhs of investors from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar islands. The ED claimed that the modus operandi involved encouraging the gullible investors to pay the desired deposits either directly or through the agents under the pretext of real estate deal. "These companies did not mention either the actual market value of the land or its location or its boundaries or survey numbers or the permissions required to be obtained for the layouts from the concerned authorities. "They tried to color it as a real estate business, but in reality it was an unregulated unlicensed collective investment scheme," it said. The ED further stated that the Agri Gold Group of Companies did not obtain permission from RBI to collect such deposits. Even SEBI has reported that the business of <keyword id="10482452" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-agri-gold-farm-estates">the Agri Gold Farm Estates</keyword> India Private Limited was nothing but a Collective Investment Scheme and ordered the company to stop taking further deposits and return the money to the depositors. "Instead of complying with the directions of the SEBI in letter and spirit, accused Avva Venkata Rama Rao opened new Companies and started collecting deposits in the names of new companies on the pretext of real estate business with the help of an army of commission agents, thus, turning this into a ponzi scam," the ED said. Although the accused collected deposits from 32 lakh investors, they never developed lands sufficient to give plots to all the investors. Even by their unverified claims, at the end they had only 5.5 lakh plots available with them. "Considering the huge discrepancy in the amount of land available, the group should have used all their resources in identifying, buying and developing more land parcels. Instead, Avva Venkata Rama Rao and his family went on a siphoning spree and illegally diverted the public deposits and invested in myriad verticals and in private companies which were directly owned by their family," the ED said. During probe it was revealed that the accused also set up companies abroad and diverted large amounts of funds to off-shore entities. "Their names also figured in the Paradise Leaks and they had incorporated companies with the help of the infamous Mossack Fonsenca in Cayman Islands," the ED said. Earlier, searches were conducted at the residences of Avva Venkata Rama Rao and other directors including the residences of auditors at Vijayawada and Hyderabad. Various property related documents, cash amount of ₹22 lakh, digital devices and other documents were recovered and seized. But there are three more matches to go in the series for India to stage a comeback and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In 2018-19, India had won the previous series 2-1 -- their first ever on Australian soil. The second Test starts on December 26 in Melbourne. Part 1 of the exclusive interview: Q: Did you have any apprehension that the Australians would have the upper hand in the first Test as it was a day-night Test with a pink ball at which the Indians have limited experience? A: The first Test itself was a bit of apprehension because I felt that the last Test we had played before the Adelaide Test was in February and after that no cricket was played (due to Covid-19 pandemic). Everyone was preparing for <keyword id="1219822" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Indian-Premier-League">the Indian Premier League</keyword>, which was a T20 format. According to me the ideal transition would have been that after the IPL you go to Australia and start with the T20 series, ODIs, and then the Test series with the red ball (regular Test match timings), and the last match being with the pink ball (adapting to pink ball Test match timings) that one is not so used to. By playing red ball Test matches first, the transition would have been a smoother to pink ball Test, according to me. Q: And what your apprehension was, or what you feared, has come true? A: Feared in the sense that, to be fair, in the first innings we had the upper hand and started off really well. There was no apprehension as such; just that when I looked at the itinerary, what I said earlier was a better option, I felt. We played good cricket in the first innings, but in the second, that hour was a difficult one and that's when things changed. Also, when Tim Paine came and scored those crucial runs. Had our first-innings been closer to 90 or 100 or so, it would have changed the thinking, and also the timing was crucial. That played a big part in this Test. Q: Were you expecting this result, particularly in the manner in which the Indian batting line-up capitulated in the second innings? A: No, I wasn't expecting it because I thought in the first innings we batted well and showed a lot of resilience. In the second innings, there was not much playing and missing by our batsmen. The ball wasn't moving around too much; just a little bit. Normally, when batters score runs we don't look at other elements, like the number of times he was beaten etc. But here we talk about a number of aspects when the batter has edged the ball. Off similar deliveries when you got beaten and when you are scoring runs and nobody talks about those. One change that one can talk about was getting a nice, big stride forward, which I felt was missing. In foreign conditions, I feel a good stride forward against fast bowlers becomes important. A half and half defence (short stride) can always trouble you and if there's a little more movement off the seam then your hands tend to compensate for the lack of footwork. What I also simultaneously noticed was that the Australians bowled very much on off stump -- much, much tighter -- and not outside the off stump whereas they bowled outside the off stump in the first innings. Q: What were the shortcomings for the undoing of Indian batsmen -- was it their inability to tackle the moving ball, or just the enormity of the situation, having made just 244 runs in the first innings? A: We surely had an upper having made just 244 in the first innings and having gotten them out below 200 (191) in the first innings. And we lost Prithvi Shaw early and then I still remember Jasprit Bumrah played that evening -- and how the team responded to that. Overall, the feeling was good in the dressing room. The next morning that only element that I felt could have been better was a little more precision in footwork, more so while playing on the front foot -- getting a nice, full stride forward, which I spoke about earlier here. If you get a nice stride forward while defending then your hands stay close to your body. When your stride is not nicely stretched forward then your hands tend to go away from the body, towards the ball. I would say that getting a good stride forward can help a lot of players. Q: And the enormity of the situation...? A: I don't think so because when Mayank (Agarwal) and Bumrah were batting we were almost 60 runs ahead of Australia with one wicket down. So, even if we had scored 225 runs, plus 53 runs (of innings lead), you would have looked at a 275-280 run target, which would have been a match-winning target. The match was tilted in our favour (at 60 for 1), I would say, when the third morning started. Of course, the first session was going to be critical because invariably teams plan overnight and come up with fresh plans sometimes. And in the first session, they fire on all cylinders and make things happen. So, if you are able to defuse that fire in the first session, then the aggression is not as much. Yes, they will keep coming at you, but you are able to keep things under control. That's why the first session was going to be critical. Q: After the defeat, Virat Kohli admitted that the capitulation was due to a "lack of intent". Was it also due to Indian batsmen's lack of correct technique or inability to soak in the pressure? A: They have dealt with pressure situations. Barring Prithvi, and possibly Mayank, all the players have played enough. Virat, Ajinkya (Rahane), Cheteshwar (Pujara) and (Wriddhiman) Saha have been around while Hanuma Vihari, compared to these guys, has played less. So, players have the ability to soak that pressure and they did their best. But sometimes you also need luck to be on your side. And as I said there were not a number of occasions when the batters were getting beaten and continuing to bat without losing wickets. That did not happen. The edges were going straight to fielders and they were carrying. In the first innings, there were a number of edges but the ball didn't carry to fielders. I remember, at least three times the ball didn't carry. In the second innings, the wicket had become harder, and there was more pace and bounce in the surface. There wasn't exaggerated off-the-seam movement. So, when you ask about a lack of correct technique, I'd say if you take a big stride forward you obviously cut down the distance (between bat and ball) and don't allow the ball to do much - and it helps you keep your hands close to your body and that is the best way to defend on front foot. Q: There is no all-rounder except Ravindra Jadeja, who was also missing in Adelaide. Do you feel India desperately missed an all-rounder? A: Also, Ravichandran Ashwin can really bat well. He is capable of getting a good partnership, handy and important runs. When we talk about Ashwin and Jadeja, it boils down to whose bowling on a particular pitch would be more useful and then you pick that bowler. Their batting is an added bonus; both can bat. I'm sure the team management must be looking at their bowling ability and picking and not worrying too much about how many runs they would contribute at No.8. Yes, those runs would be important, but they are primarily picked because of their bowling. Q: India's fielding also left a lot to be desired, as players dropped several catches in the second innings, including the crucial one of Tim Paine in the first innings. A: While growing, I remember, (Ramakant) Achrekar sir had told all of us: catches win matches. It has stayed with all of us. So don't drop catches. Fielding has to be upped without any doubt. Q: Our bowlers performed well in Adelaide. Your impressions on their performance. A: I thought their performance was very good, without any doubt. In the first innings, it was extremely disciplined and focused; and they kept the pressure on. The Australians also, on the other hand, were over defensive in their first innings. But there are occasions when batters should do something different to put the pressure back on the (opposition) bowlers. So, when there's an opportunity to score runs one should score runs; you can't let the bowler get away with an average delivery. Otherwise, you become a punching bag. A good delivery needs to be respected. Ahead of Boxing Day Test, Sachin Tendulkar says India's tour of Australia was not planned right— Kohli's men should have played T20s first

The fear Index jumped 6.2 percent. 
 
The Nifty dropped 117 points to 8,255, its lowest since June 29 as the bulls ceded space on the broader market. The Advance-Decline Ratio plunged to 2/48 on the Nifty. Banks were worst hit: Yes Bank, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, Bharti and PNB took the first five losing slots on the Index. The only shares to gain and that too with very low volumes were Ambuja Cements and TCS. 
 
SBI was the most active stock on the NSE, with 90 crore rupees worth of shares changing hands in the first 20 minutes of trade. Yes Bank and Infosys saw heavy action in initial trades. All three stocks were active on the down side. 
 
Broader indices posted larger losses. The CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 and CNX Nifty Junior, CNX Small Cap and the CNX Mid Cap Indexes lost between 1.6 percent and 2.8 percent in early deals on the NSE. All sectorial indices were bathed in red. The Bank Nifty lost 2.1 percent to 17,902. CNX PSU Bank index plunged 3.4 percent. Deep gashes were seen on CNX Auto, CNX Media, CNX Realty and CNX Finance Indices. 
 The mood was equally bearish on the Bombay Stock Exchange, where the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> shed 430 points, or 1.4 percent to 27,208 in the first 20 minutes of trade. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 2/28. Vedanta, Tata Motors, Hero Motors and State Bank of India were the top losers on the Sensex while Infosys and TCS were the only two stocks in the green. SBI was again the top traded counter on the Sensex. 
 
Bulls were literally on their knees in the futures and options space. There was just 5 gainers to 155 futures that lost ground on Friday deals in the derivatives segment. Motherson Sumi, Bharti, Canara Bank and Just Dial were the top 4 losers while Amtek Auto, Tata Comm and Jindal Steel posted gains. 
 
Bears took charge of the broader market. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 167 stocks that rose versus 1,158 that dropped. 
 
Majesco was the lone well-known stock that hit a fresh high on the NSE. Indian Hotels, Vakrangee, EMCO and Central Bank of India figured on the top volume buzzers list on the exchange. Cairn, Hindustan Zinc, Aban Offshore and IFCI were on the list of stocks hitting 52 week lows.

Bears in full control of Dalal Street today

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/48537284.cms" /> The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> is likely to remain weak-to-sideways on Wednesday as tepid overseas cues prevent traders from taking long positions in an adequately priced market. Stock specific action will drive trade. 
 
The SGX Nifty signals a 17-point downtick at opening for Nifty futures today. 
 
Overseas cues are mostly negative. Major US indices fell between 0.2-0.6% on Tuesday. European indices lost ground as well, dipping 0.2-0.4% overnight. 
 
The commodities market presented a mixed trend for our local markets. Oil Futures remain at 6-year lows as OPEC's output is seen hitting fresh record highs after Iranian crude oil joins a global supply glut. Gold and Silver futures edged up in trade. Copper Futures lost ground for the 3rd day. Equity markets in Japan, China and Hong Kong lost a bit of their footing in early deals on Wednesday. 
 
Meanwhile, the Nifty Index closed at 8,467 points, down 11 points on Tuesday. Major sectorial indexes also booked minor losses. The Bank Nifty drifted 41 points lower in the previous session as traders booked profit after a sharp rise in the prices of PSU banking stocks. 
 
The sentiment turned mixed in the cash market. Foreign Institutional Investors turned net sellers after a two-day positive buy number. They sold 255 crores of local shares while large domestic players pitched in 128 crore rupees worth of net buys yesterday. 
 
The derivatives space saw muted action. Traders made net purchases of a meagre 19 crore rupees for Index Futures; Net purchases of 408 crore rupees for Stock Futures; Purchases of `678 crore rupees for Index options and net sales of 57 crore rupees for Stock Options. 
 
Delivery based selling was seen in pharma stocks: Divi's, Reddy's, Wockhardt and Lupin saw sales. Buying was evident on Ashok Leyland, TCS, Oracle Finance and HCL Tech. 
 
STOCKS TO WATCH 
 
Delhi-based Realty majors: DLF, JP Infrastructure may see some buying after a large part of Noida got an environmental clearance from the National Green Tribunal. Nearly 5,000 flats can be sold immediately. 
 
MAJESCO: A unit of Mastek Ltd. will list on markets today.
