These small beasts manage to handle a fair bit of off-roading over the weekend, and yet look sleek and compact. This perfect combination of style and substance has made these cars instant hits among auto lovers across the country.

After the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TUV300">TUV300</a> and class-leading <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=XUV500">XUV500</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra">Mahindra</a> is all set to launch the KUV100 on 15th January, 2016. Quite like any car company, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra">Mahindra</a> is busy raking in the moolah from this rising trend of people opting to choose SUV-esque designs. 
 
This car is expected to be available with both diesel and petrol variants. The indigenous 1.2-litre Petrol unit is a first from Mahindra's stable, and the diesel is a turbocharged 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 engine. 
 
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Suzuki+Vitara+Brezza">Suzuki Vitara Brezza</a>, like any <keyword id="504693" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="compact-SUV">compact SUV</keyword> asks you to take it seriously with its sporty and rugged look. Expected to appeal to the below 30 crowd, many design elements of the Ciaz are expected to fit into the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Suzuki+Vitara+Brezza">Brezza</a> after a cost cut. 
 
The car is expected to be offered in 1.2-litre K-Series and 1.4-litre K-Series engine options for Petrol. For Diesel, the 1.3-litre Multijet Diesel is a possibility. This is Maruti’s first attempt to topple <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ford+EcoSport">Ford EcoSport</a> in the compact SUV segment. 
 
Honda BR-V 
 
Honda would of course not want to be left behind in the segment. The company’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Compact+SUV">Compact SUV</a>, the BR-V shares the Brio platform with Amaze and Mobilio. 
 
This one is expected to be powered by 1.5-litre i-VTEC Petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC Diesel engines. Yeah, it’s the same fitted in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+City">Honda City</a>. 
 
The car's wheel arches, front grill and sport design suggest Honda’s watching the sub-four meter segment closely. 
 
It is slated for an early 2016 launch.

The NuvoSport will be on offer in three variants primarily, the N4, N6 and N8. The N4 gets dual airbags and ABS with EBD as an option while the N6 and N8 get the same as standard. 
 
Prior of NuvoSport, Mahindra has already launched KUV100 and TUV300.

NuvoSport launched at Rs 7.35 lakh and it is nothing like Quanto

<keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has spread its wing to the automobile sector and in first-of-its kind initiative, it has tied up with <keyword id="50805" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-and-Mahindra">Mahindra and Mahindra</keyword>. 
 You will be now able to book <keyword id="3207078" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-KUV-100">Mahindra KUV 100</keyword> online on Flipkart, starting January 18 midnight. 
 
The KUV100, which is a compact SUV below TUV300 and XUV500, will be available in seven different colours. The KUV100 has the first ground up petrol engine offering from Mahindra and all research &amp; development activities for this compact SUV are aligned with global standards of quality, technology, testing norms, regulations and emissions from the very start.

This modified version SUV comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine as in the existing versions, but will deliver 10% more power at 100ps. The company has extended the high-tech 1-litre Ecoboost petrol engine to the mid-variant of the Trend+. Also car enthusiasts can choose from a variety of colours including Golden Bronze. 
The modified SUV will have features like signature light guide, daytime running lights and fog lamps, electro-chromic mirror and rain-sensing wipers. 
 
It will be launched in the next few days and cost Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 more than the current versions. 
 
"EcoSport was a segment breaker, it underlined that Ford could deliver what the Indian customer wants. There is a need to keep the product fresh ... our new attempt is to hold on to our numbers if not grow it," said Ford India President and Managing Director Nigel Harris. 
India’s growing SUV market has become a cut throat competition ground. With more budgets to dispose, country’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cars">car buyers</a> have moved over the mileage specifications and concentrated more on elegance and durability. Known for making fuel efficient cars, even Maruti Suzuki is introducing cars like S Cross to tap on this niche clientele. 
 
Hyundai’s Creta has seen a euphoric boom in terms of sale. Over 2 months, it has already seen 54,000 bookings. The South Korean automaker has cut down on production of some models to enhance Creta output.

Automaker Mahindra &amp; Mahindra announced on Wednesday that it would be raising the prices of its personal vehicles by up to ₹36,000 across models from July 1. But the company is not alone. Maruti Suzuki had already declared a price hike for its new Swift and WagonR. Others like Honda and Tata Motors too have indicated the same. “Mahindra SUVs that will take a substantial price increase are the Scorpio, Bolero, TUV300 and KUV100 NXT, while brands such as the XUV500 and Marazzo will increase prices marginally,” Mahindra said in its filing as reported by IANS. The Indian government had announced the Bharat Stage VI norms for emission regulation. The norms will be adopted by April 2020, however companies had said that the adoption will result in a price-hike. Car sales are woefully slow in India but prices are rising due to new green norms

<keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> pipped <keyword id="6357096" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahindra-Mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> (M&amp;M) and overtook first spot to become India's largest utility vehicle (UV) maker in May. The two cars which zoomed Maruti Suzuki to number 1 post are Brezza and <keyword id="856840" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ertiga">Ertiga</keyword> MPV. <keyword id="2776768" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vitara-Brezza">Vitara Brezza</keyword> and Ertiga MPV received great demand as Maruti Suzuki sold 5,500 more SUVs than Mahindra &amp; Mahindra in the first two months of FY18. As per the industry figures, M&amp;M sold 18,363 units in April and 19,331units in May, compared with 20,638 units in April for Maruti and 22,608 units in May. During the launch of Vitara Brezza, Kenichi Ayukawa, MD of Maruti Suzuki, had said the company wants to dominate in the compact SUV space. RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki, said, “I am not surprised by the numbers we have been able to generate in the utility vehicle segment, but I will not read too much in the leadership in utility vehicle segment. It is clear that if you make a good product and offer right quality and features, people will choose your product.” Maruti Suzuki is selling more than 10,000 units of Vitara Brezza every month and has over 50,000 bookings. Meanwhile, Mahindra’s attempt to retain its top spot through KUV 100, TUV 300, Nuvo Sport and Bolero Plus have not yielded fruits. Rajan Wadhera, president for the automotive sector at Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, told ET the buyers of Maruti's high-selling UVs - the Brezza or the Ertiga - are not the consumers who would otherwise have bought a Mahindra SUV. Both the Brezza and Ertiga, Wadhera said, have created their own space. "With the size of base of the market expanding, the market leader is bound to lose some share. External factors such as the court's stand against diesel and large SUVs also hurt us. And this also led to increasing demand for petrol SUVs,” Wadhera told ET.

Mahindra has actually been investing a lot in design. It acquired Pininfarina, the global design firm, which has played a part in design of Super cars like Ferrari. The company even had a design studio right at the venue to showcase what went into the making of the XUV Aero. The preference of customers has changed, thanks to introduction of <keyword id="1133722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Compact-SUVs">compact SUVs</keyword>, equipped with better dynamics and drivability. 
 
The compact SUVs, which are priced almost at the same level of sedans, have changed the trend and now have become a preference among most of the car buyers. 
 
This has also triggered a competition as now utility segment accounts for one in every four passenger vehicles sold. 
 One of the quick adapters of this trend was <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>, which has grabbed a significant market share, giving tough competition to Mahindra &amp; Mahindra based on sales in the first seven months of this fiscal year. 
 
Since last three months, Maruti is emerging as the winner in the utility segment. 
 
As per the reports, sales of utility vehicles went up around 37% to 4,44,048 units between April and October, compared with 3,24,460 units a year earlier when the segment accounted for one in five passenger vehicles sold in the Indian market. 
 
"The future of compact SUV is very bright, I expect the trend to continue. For OEMs (automakers) to be relevant in this segment, regular launches with better features are the keys to succeed," Abdul Majeed, automobile expert and partner at Price Waterhouse, told ET. 
 
Mahindra, which was the leader in the utility segment, seems to be withering as its market share slipped to 30% from 36% in the April-October period, even as Maruti increased its share to 25% from 14%, helped primarily by the success of the Vitara Brezza. Mahindra's new products the like TUV300 and KUV100 did not do that well. 
 "Interestingly, passenger car OEMs like Maruti and <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> are able to gain strong footing in the UV segment due to changing preference towards compact UVs. Whereas, traditional UV OEMs like <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> and M&amp;M, having presence in chassis built rugged UVs, witnessed market erosion due to relative underperformance of the larger UV segment. Thanks to strong response to compact UVs, the share of petrol vehicle is likely to increase in the medium term," Subrata Ray, senior group vice president at ratings firm ICRA, told ET.

People are buying more utility vehicles than compact. Here’s why

Indian auto industry players, like Hyundai, Mahindra, and Ford have announced attractive offers before <keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword> is implemented on July 1. Hyundai is offering discounts ranging from Rs 25,000, on Elite i20, Rs 2,50,000 on Santa Fe, Rs 45,000 on Eon, Rs 62,000-73,000 on Grand i10, Rs 80,000-90,000 on Verna and Rs 25,000 on its new XCent till June 26, 2017. Datsun, on the other hand, is offering free insurance and reduced interest rates. <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>, India’s biggest carmaker, has decided to broaden its discounts to Rs 25,000-35,000 on Alto and Swift. Mahindra, similarly, is offering Rs 27,000 off on Scorpio, Rs 61,000 on TUV300, Rs 72,000 on KUV100 and Rs 90,000 on XUV500 till June 30. There is a strategic reason behind these discounts, says a senior industry executive on the condition of anonymity. "Dealers can claim 60% input tax credit on stocks lying unsold till June 30. While most companies have agreed to provide financial support to dealers during the transition, the effort is to liquidate inventory to the extent possible ahead of July 1." To lure customers who are waiting till GST gets implemented in the hope that prices would fall, Honda has come up with an innovative scheme. "If vehicle prices decline post GST, the company will directly refund the difference to the consumer. The buyer is not required to pay any additional amount if price of the model purchased goes up from July. This is valid for all models till the end of this month," a dealer of <keyword id="1381889" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda-Cars-India">Honda Cars India</keyword> told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/news/industry/ahead-of-gst-rollout-carmakers-offering-direct-price-benefits-and-free-insurance-to-lure-buyers/articleshow/59150792.cms">ET</a>. Volkswagen, to lure its set of customers, is offering discounts of Rs 76,000 and Rs 1,00,000 on Polo and Vento cars booked till June 20, even if payment is deferred till June 30. Other than this, the company is also offering reduced interest rates, free insurance, road-side assistance and extended warranty for three years. Not willing to be left behind, Nissan has come up with price benefits of up to Rs 80,000 on its popular SUV Terrano, while Micra can be claimed at Rs 25,000 discount. Ford too is offering price benefits on Figo, Aspire and EcoSport, depending on variants.

It’s raining discounts in auto market ahead of GST rollout

Farmers in India are hopeful for good rains this year, given that the last two monsoons weren’t effective, leading to poor crops and droughts in various parts of the country. However, there is another industry, the Indian automakers, which is looking forward to heavy monsoons this year, so that demand of the new models continues to rise. These new models have attracted people despite the fact that the future of diesel-powered vehicles in the Indian domestic market is uncertain. 
 
Good rains would mean that sales would pick up further momentum as buyer sentiments would bloom in the coming months. 
 
India’s biggest auto maker Maruti Suzuki reported that it has seen a 10.6% rise in its domestic sales in the past month, because of high demand for recently launched Baleno and Vitara Brezza. However, the demand for older and smaller cars, like Alto and WagonR, has seen a dip. 
 
On the other hand, Hyundai also saw rise in the demand of Grand i10, Elite i20 and Creta, reporting an increase of 10.4% over the year earlier period. 
 
Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, the makers of top utility vehicles, have seen a rise in sales because of TUV300 and KUV100, posting over 8% rise in its sales. 
 
However, one condition on which the monsoon sales depend is the regulatory intervention, which needs to settle at the earliest so that the auto industry can get a stable environment to work in. Since December, the auto industry has been facing a ban on the registration of diesel vehicles with engines displacing 2000 cc and higher in the National Capital Region. 
 While the automakers wait for this ban to be lifted, the <keyword id="146133" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Green-Tribunal">National Green Tribunal</keyword> is considering that 11 more cities should have a similar ban, which will be decided in a hearing scheduled for July.

Not only farmers, even the Indian automobile industry is waiting for heavy rains this year. Know why

Car manufacturers have reported a significant growth in the fiscal that ended March’16. 
 
Overall, the sales numbers of India’s to three car-makers, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Maruti+Suzuki+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Maruti Suzuki India</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hyundai+Motors+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Hyundai Motors India</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> point at a healthy growth in the passenger vehicles segment. These top three manufacturers currently command 72.61% share in the passenger vehicles market. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hyundai+Motors+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Hyundai</a>’s sales grew by9.1%, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra</a>’s by 10%, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Honda</a>’s by 5% and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tata+Motors&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tata Motors</a> witnessed a growth of 3% in domestic sales. Segment leader Maruti’s domestic sales saw a YoY growth of annual sales of 11.2% in Feb 2015-16. 
 
What are the numbers like? Believe it or not, <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India and <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Motor India, the country’s top two players have posted their best-ever domestic sales in the current fiscal. 
 
They reported an annual growth of 11.5% and 15.1% respectively. Second runner up <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mahindra+%26+Mahindra&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> also reported a 6% hike in sales. This is after two consecutive double-digit declines in the last two fiscals. 
 
Overall, during FY 2015-16, these manufacturers have sold 2,026,282 units, registering a YoY growth of 11.62% from last fiscal’s 1,815,338 units. 
 
What fuelled the growth? 
Experts believe that a slew of new product launches, attractive interest rates and agreeable fuel prices played a big role in the demand for passenger vehicles throughout 2015-16. 
 
Challenges 
The regulatory environment and the fluctuating policy decisions arrested the overall growth potential for the industry. The current fiscal budget also taxed <keyword id="439075" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="luxury-vehicles">luxury vehicles</keyword> and SUVs, a segment that has seen strong growth in India in recent months. 
 
Company-wise performance: 
 
Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> India 
Maruti’s new models like the Baleno and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> are making a solid statement. Demand for the premium Ciaz sedan is up 28.9%. 
 
Maruti’s UVs, namely the Gypsy, S-Cross, Ertiga and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vitara Brezza</a> are making a solid contribution. They together sold 13,894 units, up 123.4% YoY! Such is the demand for the new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vitara+Brezza&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Maruti Vitara Brezza</a> that it’s led to a 5-month delivery time for the top-end variant. 
 
Interestingly though, the entry level duo - Alto and Wagon R sold around 36,678 units. That’s down 8.7% YoY. Some say that is at the face of stiff competition from the likes of the Hyundai Eon and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Renault+Kwid&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Renault Kwid</a>. 
 
Hyundai Motor India: 
Hyundai clocked its highest-ever financial year domestic sales. The company sold a hefty 41,201 units in March 2016, up 4.24% YoY. 
 
Hyundai has achieved an all-time highest volume and highest-ever market share of over 17%. The company says the success is due to the strong performance of models like the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Creta&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Creta</a>, Elite i20 and Grand i10. 
 
Back in 2015, the Creta took the Indian market by storm. Clocking average monthly sales of around 7,000 units, the Creta has been among the top 10 most sold cars in the country. 
 
Mahindra &amp; Mahindra 
After two years of double-digit decline, M&amp;M is back on track with a 6% rise in total domestic passenger vehicles. In March 2016, M&amp;M’s passenger vehicles segment grew 21% YoY. 
 
M&amp;M reinvented its product strategy in 2015, and launched a total of nine new products. This paid off as products like the TUV300 and the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=KUV100&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">KUV100</a> helped them grow.
