The Mahindra Group company posted a net profit of Rs 493.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing. Revenue rose by 3.49 per cent to Rs 13,313.2 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25 compared to Rs 12,863.9 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24. "Other income includes gain on sale of property of Rs 4,502 million which comprises of freehold land and its related buildings along with the furniture &amp; fixtures sold for a consideration of Rs 5,350 million, receivable over a period of four years along with interest of 8.2 per cent p.a," the company filing said. Sequentially, net profit rose by 46.81 per cent and revenue by 2.36 per cent. "We continue to progress on our strategic improvement efforts even as the overall IT services industry has remained soft. "We have focused on strengthening client relationships and expanding the partner ecosystem while maintaining a sharp focus on operational excellence through project Fortius, which has resulted in an expansion of margins for the third sequential quarter," Tech Mahindra CEO Mohit Joshi said. The CEO unveiled Project Fortius in April, a three-year plan to achieve a 15 per cent operating margin with a focus on organic growth. "This quarter we see consistent performance around increasing deal wins, <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, cost optimisation and steady free cash flow generation as we continue our journey towards FY27 stated targets. In line with our capital allocation policy the board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share," Tech Mahindra CFO Rohit Anand said. The company's TCV (<keyword id="23580531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Total-Contract-Value" source="keywords">Total Contract Value</keyword>), or net new deal wins, stood at USD 603 million in the second quarter of FY25. Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai and other automakers report a decline in sales in July 2024

Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd explains that markets experienced a breather after the recent decline, gaining over a percent, driven by strong global cues. After an initial gap-up start, the Nifty oscillated within a range and finally settled near the day's high at 24,297.50. Most sectors contributed to the upward movement, with metals, energy, and pharma being the top performers. The broader indices also saw a notable rebound, gaining between 2.5% and 3%. "Although volatility has significantly cooled-off after the sharp surge, there remains potential for further decline. On the index front, a decisive close above 24,500 in the Nifty is needed to ease pressure and trigger a sustained rebound. Given the current conditions, we maintain a cautious outlook and recommend continuing with a hedged approach", he continued. Says Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities, "Today, the benchmark indices bounced back sharply, the Nifty ends 305 points higher while the Sensex was up by 875 points. Among Sectors, all the major sectoral indices were traded in to the positive territory but Oil and Gas index outperformed, rallied 3.10 percent. Technically, after a positive opening the market held the positive momentum throughout the day. It also holding double bottom formation on intraday charts, which indicating continuation of pullback rally in the near future". "We are of the view that, 24,200/79,100 would be the sacrosanct support zone for the day traders. As long as market is trading above the same, the pullback formation is likely to continue. On the higher side, it could bounce back till 24,400-24,475/80,000-80,200. On the flip side, below 24,200/79,100 the sentiment could change, below same, it could retest the level of 24,100-24,000/78,800-78,500", he explained. All broad market indices made a sharp rebound, with the exception of India <keyword id="315980" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="VIX" source="Orion">VIX</keyword>, which dipped by 13.72%. Nifty Next 50 rallied over 3%, while all other indices rose between 1% and 3% each. Amidst sectoral indices, oil and gas jumped by 3.06%, while media, metal, pharma and healthcare inched up over 2% each to close the day in green today. Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares notes that after a strong opening, the Index oscillated in a well-maintained thin range and finally ended the session higher at 24,297.05 with gains of 304.95 points. All the sectors ended in green with metal and media being the top performers. "Mid and small caps advanced by 2.45% &amp; 2.86% respectively and outperformed the Benchmark Index. After 2 days of correction, Nifty50 has formed a green candle but its long-legged DOJI pattern indicates indecisiveness still. We believe that as long as the Index holds its support level of 23,960, there is a chance to soar higher to 24,550 followed by 24,700", said Gaggar.

Stock market closing: Sensex inches over 800 points, Nifty also closes 1.27% up

All broad market indices closed the day in red. India VIX dipped 7.97%, and amidst sectoral indices, financial services and PSU banks dropped over 1% each at the close of day's trade. With the exception of FMCG, IT, media, metal and realty, which managed marginal gains, all other sectors closed in the reds. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares explains that although a strong opening reaching higher levels was seen in the opening trade; the index failed to hold its gains and gradually erased it. In the 2nd half of trading, selling pressure intensified, and the index wiped off all its gains to end the session at 23,992.55 with a loss of 63.05 points. "A mixed trend was seen across the board, where realty and IT were the top gainers, while PSU Banks corrected the most, followed by auto. From the broader markets, midcaps and small caps corrected by 0.61% &amp; 0.39% respectively, and underperformed the frontline index. The near-term outlook for Nifty50 turned bearish, unless it gives a convincing move above 24,400 while on the downside, 23,880 will be considered as immediate support", Gaggar continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities noted that while today, the markets opened higher due to positive Asian markets, they failed to sustain these levels and closed at the day's lowest point. "Although the market did not break the previous day's lows, it closed below the closing of the previous day. Apart from Nifty realty, metal, and IT, other indices closed in the red. Based on the short-term market structure, the trend-setting levels are 23,900/78,290. If the market falls below this, it may decline to 23,700 or 23,600/78,000-77,800, where it has support from retracements and long-term averages. It's advisable to consider selective buying around this level. On the upside, the major resistance levels are 24,150/79,000 and 24,400/79,700. It's recommended to reduce weak long positions around 24,300/24,400", he said. Rajesh Bhosale, Equity Technical Analyst, Angel One highlighted that the momentum favored the bears, and that the possibility of intermittent rebounds cannot be ruled out. "Therefore, any such bounces, similar to today, should ideally be viewed as selling opportunities. As for key levels, 24,250 appears to be immediate resistance, while the 24,350 - 24,400 range remains a challenging barrier for the bulls. Only a close above this range could potentially revive some positive momentum in the market. On the downside, immediate support is seen at 23,900 - 23,850, below which the Nifty may slip towards the 23,600 - 23,550 levels. Traders are advised to monitor these levels closely and adjust their trades accordingly, while also keeping an eye on global developments, as our markets are particularly influenced by global momentum", Bhosale continued. On the global front, oil prices rose by over 1% today, bouncing back from yesterday's losses, due to supply concerns stemming from the escalating Middle East conflict and strong U.S. services data. However, the fear of Iran retaliating against recent attacks in the region has increased fears of a broader war, threatening global supply stability and impacting oil forecasts. Furthermore, the US ISM Services PMI for July came in at 51.4, slightly above the month's forecast (51) and higher than June's reading (48.8). This is a positive sign, since it indicates a rebound in services sector, improvement in business activities, new orders and employment across industries like finance, healthcare and more. "With the Federal Reserve’s interest rate strategy under scrutiny, any positive US economic data could support the case for rate cuts", continued Chouhan. In response, global indices were seen trading in green. Nikkei 225 in particular, which had dropped around 12.4% yesterday, witnessing its worst crash since 1987, sharply rebounded about 3,217.04 points, or 10.23% to close at 34,675.46 points.

Stock market closing: Nikkei makes a sharp rebound, Sensex ends below 79k and Nifty slips below 24k

Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares notes that Indian equities ended the month of July at record level of 24,951. The index is heading towards the psychological barrier of 25,000 and a sustainable move above the same will push the Index further higher to 25,200 whereas on the downside 24,800 will be considered as immediate support. "Bank Nifty is oscillating in the range of 51,250-51,930 and a breakout on either sides is a must to determine the clear trend. The metal sector is providing an early sign of trend reversal while the pharma segment is likely to extend its outperformance. Investors should watch the chemical stocks with a buy-on-dips strategy", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan – Head – Equity Research at Kotak Securities says that from a technical perspective, the market has shown a narrow range of activity this week. "It has consistently found support between 24,800-24,750/81,100-81,000 on the downside, with profit booking observed between 24,950-24,980/81,750-81,800. If the market goes above 24,980/81,800, it could rally to 25,050-25,125/82,200-82,500. However, if it falls below 24,750/81,000, the market sentiment may change, potentially leading to a decline to 24,650-24,500/80,800-80,500 levels. The recommended strategy is to reduce long positions between 25050/25150 levels", he said. Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Perspectives and Research , SAMCO Securities added that US Fed Chief <keyword id="20058769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jerome-powell" source="keywords">Jerome Powell</keyword> had kept rates unchanged in the recently concluded meeting. However, he clearly stated that if inflation remains on the anticipated trajectory of 2% then a rate cuts might happen as early as September. "This unleashed animal spirits and pushed the bond and equity prices higher globally. US 10 year bond yields which are inversely correlated to bond prices slipped sharply lower and are on the verge of falling below 4% mark. This is a big positive for the markets as the cost of capital for corporates and consumers is falling. Riskier assets like emerging markets and metals are likely to do well. Precious metals like gold and silver too should benefit from rate cuts", he explained.

On the other hand, Bajaj Finserv (down by 2.09%), Tata Consumers (down by 1.90%), Britannia (down by 1.88%), Axis Bank (down by 1.82%) and Bajaj Finance (down by 1.67%) were amongst the leading laggards. Bajaj Finance reported its Q1FY25 results recently. While its profits rose 14% YoY to Rs 3,912 crore, the firm's net interest income also reported a 25% jump. However, the stock was trading at Rs 6,614.90, down by over 1% today. The company's loan losses and provisions during April-June 2024 period jumped to Rs 1,685 crore, as opposed to Rs 995 crore during April-June 2023. Most midcap and small cap indices registered significant growth today. Mid cap 100 was up by 1.04%, small cap 100 was up by 1.76%. However, India VIX dipped by as much as 7.72%. Small cap 50 (up by 1.74%), small cap 250 (up by 1.86%) and microcaps (up by 2.68%) also saw healthy leads during the day. As for sectoral indices, consumer durables and oil and gas were up by over 1%, while media gained over 2% during the day. Auto, bank, <keyword id="19931572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg" source="keywords">FMCG</keyword>, PSU and private banks closed the day in red. Mr. Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares noted that a mixed trend was seen in the markets where mid and smallcap segments were seen compounding their morning gains while Bank Nifty-led correction dragged the index lower to end the session at 24,413.50 with a loss of 65.55 points. "Media was the top gainer among the sectors followed by energy while profit-booking-led correction was seen in the FMCG segment. On the daily chart, the index has formed a spinning top candlestick pattern indicating indecisiveness between the bulls and bears. The level of 24,200 will remains a crucial support while 24,560 is considered as an immediate resistance", Gaggar continued. Out of the 2,770 stocks traded during the day, 1,992 stocks saw advances, while 700 declined, and 78 others remained unchanged. 130 stocks hit their 52-week high during the day, while 14 stocks hit their 52-week low price. 210 stocks hit the upper circuit, or maximum permissible trading price during a singular trading session, while 46 stocks hit the lower circuit, or the minimum permissible price allowed during one trading session.
