In a significant move aimed at recognising mothers' vital roles in upbringing, the Maharashtra cabinet has mandated the inclusion of mothers' names in government documents. Effective May 1, 2024, the format for government documents will require the document-holder’s first name to be followed by the mother’s first name and then the father’s first name and surname. Individuals born on or after May 1, 2014, are required to adhere to this format for all government documents, including birth certificates, property documents, Aadhar cards and PAN cards, as well as school and revenue documents, examination certificates and salary slips, as stated in the government’s press note. The state's public health department has been tasked with consulting the Centre regarding the inclusion of the mother’s name in birth and death registrations. For married women, the prevailing practice of listing the woman’s name followed by her husband’s first name and surname will remain unchanged. Orphans will be exempt from including the mother’s name. In alignment with this decision, Maharashtra Chief Minister <keyword id="19913631" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="eknath-shinde" source="keywords">Eknath Shinde</keyword> had a new nameplate installed outside his office chamber at the state secretariat in south Mumbai. Sena MLA Bhaskar Jadhav told PTI that the meeting was convened to apprise the legislators of the government formation process and meetings of Congress-NCP leaders in Delhi. Thackeray met NCP president Sharad Pawar in Mumbai last night. Jadhav said whatever decision Thackeray takes will be binding on all legislators of Shiv Sena. "We would like Uddhavji or Aaditya Thackeray to be the CM," he added. Results of the October 21 Assembly polls were declared on October 24 and President's rule was imposed in the state on November 12 after no party or combine staked claim to form the new government. The state was plunged into a political crisis after the Sena broke its three-decade-long ties with the BJP after the latter declined to share the chief minister's post. The BJP and Sena, which fought the Assembly polls in alliance, had secured a comfortable majority by winning 105 and 56 seats, respectively, in the 288-member Assembly. The Congress and the NCP, pre-poll allies, won 44 and 54 seats, respectively. In a dramatic turn of events, Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were sworn in as chief minister and deputy chief minister respectively by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at 8 am on Saturday at a hush-hush ceremony in Raj Bhavan here, leading to the lifting of the President's rule in the state.

Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister <keyword id="193503" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="eknath-shinde" source="Orion">Eknath Shinde</keyword> has been working to assuage the concerns of <keyword id="6358821" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shiv-sena" source="Orion">Shiv Sena</keyword> lawmakers after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader <keyword id="6366108" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ajit-pawar" source="Orion">Ajit Pawar</keyword> joined the coalition government and asserted there was nothing to worry, Sena legislators said. Shinde, who presided over a meeting of Shiv Sena MLAs, MLCs and MPs on Wednesday, was kept in the loop about the fast-paced developments in the NCP which culminated in Ajit Pawar taking oath as deputy CM along with eight other ministers on July 2 in a stunning turn of events, they said. A section of Shiv Sena lawmakers had raised certain concerns after the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar joined the one-year-old Shinde-BJP government. The induction of the rebel NCP group in the cabinet has dented the prospects of ministerial aspirants from the BJP and the Shiv Sena, leaving some of them upset and Shinde is aware of their sentiments Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar said earlier in the day. Amid the changed politician equation, Shiv Sena MLAs and MPs on Wednesday night attended a meeting at Shinde's official residence 'Varsha' in south Mumbai. "A lot of issues were discussed in the meeting like the ones pertaining to the monsoon session of Parliament as well as in the state legislature, strengthening the party's organisation," said a party MP. Another party MP said Shinde was asked whether he know about the sudden developments in the NCP to which he responded in the affirmative. The MP said the political developments took place at a rapid pace due to which Sena lawmakers could not be informed about them in advance. The chief minister stressed the Ajit Pawar-led NCP group joining the ruling alliance will only help the party lawmakers, the MP added. "He said there was nothing to worry as the BJP and the Shiv Sena have been in the government for a year now and the NCP (faction led by Ajit Pawar) joining the government will not affect its functioning in anyway," a Shiv Sena MLC said. Last year, more than three dozen Shiv Sena MLAs, led by Shinde, had revolted against party president Uddhav Thackeray over his decision to join hands with the the NCP and the Congress which crystallised in formation of the <keyword id="8357634" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maha-vikas-aghadi" source="Orion">Maha Vikas Aghadi</keyword> (MVA) government in 2019. They had also alleged Ajit Pawar, who was the finance minister in the erstwhile MVA government, did not allocate enough funds for development of their constituencies. Earlier in the day, Sena MP Kirtikar told PTI, "The scope of ministerial aspirants from the BJP and the Shiv Sena minimised after the NCP (rebel faction) joined the government. This has upset some MLAs. The chief minister was aware of this." With the induction of nine ministers from the <keyword id="17888465" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajit-pawar-camp" source="Orion">Ajit Pawar camp</keyword>, the strength of the Shinde-Fadnavis cabinet has gone up to 29, leaving 14 posts still vacant. On Tuesday, Shiv Sena spokesperson and MLA Sanjay Shirsat indicated there was some uneasiness in a section of the party after the latest political development. "Party (Shiv Sena) workers and supporters have started asking us how and why did Ajit Pawar and his group join the government? They said will it shrink their political space in the state. But I can assure you that Ajit Pawar joining the government was inevitable," Shirsat said.

The Maharashtra government is riding high. The Fadnavis government has signed an <keyword id="6368586" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MoU">MoU</keyword> with Blackstone and Panchsil SPV for three projects worth Rs 4,500 crore and generation of some 50,000 jobs. 
 According to a report by ET, chief minister <keyword id="6355042" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Devendra-Fadnavis">Devendra Fadnavis</keyword> while on a week-long tour of the US, has assured that Blackstone will invest Rs 750 crore in EON Free Zone SEZ, Rs 1,200 crore in Hinjewadi Phase-3, Rs 1,500 crore in IT Park in Central Mumbai and Rs 1,050 crore in other IT parks in Mumbai. 
 
"Big news! Investment of around Rs 4,500 crore &amp; jobs up to approx 50,000 to be generated. Results of new IT Policy being shown within a week itself!" tweeted the chief minister. 
 
It was followed by another tweet by him, “Coca Cola announces Rs 500 crore investment at Lote Parshuram in Chiplun MIDC, Maharashtra." 
Pitching Maharashtra as an investment destination, Fadnavis is also believed to have had extensive interactions with executives from the US-India Business Council in New York. 
 "The state eagerly awaits formation of JVs in important projects such as <keyword id="64010" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="DMIC">DMIC</keyword>, <keyword id="6377036" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="smart-cities">smart cities</keyword>, manufacturing, agriculture, aviation, engineering and IT," said Fadnavis in the report.

Mumbai, Mar 24 () The Retailers Association of India (RAI) has requested state administrations to allow food and grocery stores of all formats, irrespective of their locations, to stay open during the lockdown period. The request comes after some unfortunate incidents in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat where the police beat up employees and delivery staff of retailers and dragged them to police stations. The association has also requested home deliveries be allowed to prevent people from stepping out; thus, help prevent the spreading of virus infection. "Let all grocery stores within malls or outside, air-conditioned or non-air-conditioned, small or large and online or offline to stay open," the association said. It also noted that most states have already agreed with their view that shutting down grocery stores selling essential daily items will cause inconvenience to citizens and may set off panic buying, creating a shortage. Noting that these employees are risking their lives for serving the public, the association said they have requested chief ministers and law enforcement authorities of these states to intervene so that essential goods are accessible to the public without any hindrance. Due to the mandatory closure of malls and retail stores across states, retailers face imminent financial crisis/insolvency. As a result, the livelihoods of millions employed in retail are in peril. The association has also submitted representations to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Commerce Ministry, and the Finance Ministry to help the retail industry cope with the crisis in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. They have also written to the Reserve Bank of India and State Bank of India requesting a stimulus package to ensure continuity of retail businesses and consumption. Their monetary and fiscal boosts include 120 days of moratorium for repayments till end of June and wage subsidy, subsidy on utility bills and extension for payment of statutory dues like advance tax, GST till end of June. The tableaux of States and Union Territories have been selected for the Republic Day Parade on a zonal basis, in which the States and Union Territories have been classified into six divisions -- Northern Zone, Central Zone, Eastern Zone, Western Zone, Southern Zone and North Eastern Zone. Generally, around 15 tableaux are selected from the States/UTs depending on the proportional size of each region. In the selection process, an expert committee examined the tableaux proposals of various States and Union Territories. Apart from this, several rounds of discussions were held by the committee members with the representatives of the states on the theme, presentation, artistic performance and technical aspects of the tableau.
