The combined platform will have 100 million creators, over 300 million Monthly Active Users (MAU), and nearly 250 billion monthly video views. Post this transaction, MX Media and its shareholders will become strategic shareholders of ShareChat. Since its launch in July 2020, Moj has emerged as the largest Indian short video app, with over 160 million MAUs and over 50 million creator communities in the 15 Indian languages. The company has been investing heavily in social and live commerce and growing its AI/ML team which is now over 100 people strong and spread across the US, Europe, and India. MX TakaTak was launched in July 2020 and reached 150 million MAUs, across 10 languages. The platform’s deep access to content talent and understanding of the MX Media ecosystem user base has seen this high growth in a short span of time. MX TakaTak will continue to function as a separate platform for now, but the two platforms’ creator base, content supply and recommendation algorithms will be integrated. In the coming months, the experience of users and creators will converge enabling creators from both platforms to reach the most extensive set of audiences in India. This will provide users access to unique features including best-in-class camera creation tools with Snap filters, live commerce, and a vast music library. In 2021, Mohalla Tech cumulatively raised $913 million, at a valuation of $3.7 billion. The acquisition, sources close to the development told IANS, will further bolster <keyword id="3358959" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sharechat" source="Orion">ShareChat</keyword>'s short-video market share through the platform Moj. When contacted, the companies declined to immediately comment on the development. Moj and ShareChat together have a 340 million-strong user community, while <keyword id="9555198" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mx-takatak" source="Orion">MX TakaTak</keyword> has nearly 150 million monthly active users (MAUs). Founded in 2015, Mohalla Tech has raised over $1.177 billion across eight fundraising rounds to date. Moj currently has an average user time spent of 34 minutes every day, scoring over 4.5 billion views daily. ShareChat is positioned uniquely with an average user time spent of 31 minutes daily. Since January this year, the company has grown to over 2,000 employees and added several new features as it focuses on building its products to be the leader in the Indian short video and social media space. In December, Mohalla Tech raised $266 million as part of its Series G round. "Both our products (Moj and ShareChat) have been leading the market with the highest monthly active user base, a very active creator set and amazing new partnerships to delight our community. This fresh funding will further strengthen our position," said Ankush Sachdeva, CEO and Co-founder, Moj and ShareChat. After the ban on TikTok and other Chinese short-video making apps, the advertisement revenue from Indian short-form space has been growing at a rapid pace and tripled in just six months. According to a latest report by homegrown consulting firm RedSeer Consulting, short-form content has grown 1.37 times in terms of monthly active user (MAU) and 1.1 times in terms of daily active users from June 2020 when Chinese app TikTok was banned in India. The monthly active users of the short-form segment in the country are expected to grow more than two times to reach 650 million users by 2025, clocking the second spot after television. This significant growth is largely expected to be driven by the new 300 million Internet users that will be added by 2025. Short form videos or SFV are categorised as videos with a duration of 15 seconds to 2 minutes. It’s safe to say that the pandemic has increased content consumption and SFV is one of the most successful byproducts of it. In India, the SFV user base grew 3.5 times and 12 times in total time spent by all users over the past two years. In 2020 alone, more than 200 million Indians watched SFVs at least once. And active users spent up to 45 minutes a day only on SFV platforms. There was a 60% increase in consumption of SFV during the lockdown period (April-June) as compared to January-March the same year. At present, there are more than 200 million SFV users in India. India’s SFV user base has mostly been men (70%-75%) from tier 2 cities and smaller towns while women take up 25%-30%. Dailyhunt’s Josh and Glance’s Roposo have over 150 million and 100 million downloads, respectively, and investors like Google, Microsoft and InMobi. An interesting player here is Xiaomi’s Zili that comes pre-installed on Xiaomi smartphones. The average user spends 4-5 minutes per visit which is 4-5 visits a day. Despite a booming market, Bain &amp; Company says the SFV market in India is still in a nascent stage. Highlighting five major trends curated content and social-led engagement, monetisation, innovations to onboard the next wave of users, emergence of a robust creator ecosystem, and niche platforms within larger SFV ecosystems. India is also expected to follow the footsteps of one of the top SFV markets - China or the US. China has two top SFV players - Douyin and Kuaishou, and multiple small platforms. Analysts predict India’s short form video market to have 650 million users by 2025

India is far ahead in the race with over 1.5 billion downloads. It actually has been leading the race surpassing the US in 2018, the report added. Globally, 70 billion social apps have been downloaded to date since 2010. In the first half of 2021 alone, there were 4.7 billion downloads of social apps. Indian short-video making apps like <keyword id="6393600" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Josh">Josh</keyword>, <keyword id="8678883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="moj">Moj</keyword>, <keyword id="9555198" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MX-TakaTak">MX Takatak</keyword> and <keyword id="2368386" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Roposo">Roposo</keyword> have brought back 97 per cent of TikTok user base in the country onto their platforms, largely from small cities and towns, a new report showed on Thursday. Indian short-form apps have also successfully retained 67 per cent of the TikTok era users and have onboarded around 30-35 per cent new users over the past year. This has been a result of increased supplier push and aggressive marketing by platforms, according to the latest report by Bengaluru-based RedSeer Consulting. "Daily active users (DAUs) increased upto 97 per cent of June 2020 levels as a result of aggressive marketing and user acquisition by platforms. However, the time spent on the other hand has gradually increased, reaching 55 per cent of June 2020 levels," the report mentioned. Josh leads both on influencer and user-end driven by strong performance in the Hindi belt and Tier-2+ cities. Moj, has been a strong gainer across consumer and business metrics, when compared to the last quarter. "On the other hand, Roposo has shown strong performance in Tier-1 cities compared to the smaller ones," said the report. MX <keyword id="7638068" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Takatak">Takatak</keyword> lead in the net promoter score (NPS) in the metro cities. The platform has held challenges and hashtag events similar to TikTok, to gain market share. Overall, 60-62 per cent of the shortform users are from tier 2+ cities. While Indian platforms have come a long way in the last few months, they have more scope to improve their content quality and product experience. The study shows that 75 per cent current short-form video users will likely stick to these domestic apps and are unlikely to switch back to Chinese apps even if the ban was lifted. "In less than one year post-Tik Tok ban, Indian platforms have shown a strong V-shaped recovery, bouncing back to 100 per cent of pre ban daily user base," said Ujjwal Chadhury, associate partner at RedSeer Consulting. But the job is far from done. "The players still have to reach the global and cross sector benchmarks on engagement and retention- which will further grow the monetisation potential for the entire ecosystem," Chadhury added. With strong network effects, the user base is growing fast, fuelling ecosystem growth, leading to a large monetisation potential for both influencers and platforms. Elite influencers with more than 10 million followers have a monthly earning of around $20,000-40,000. "Influencers with 1 million followers can earn upto $1000-2.500 while budding creators with less than 1 million followers can earn $40-200," the report said. Hiring of 400 employees will take the workforce to a total of 700 employees, a three-fold increase from 240 employees in October 2021. The hiring will be done in technology and product teams and across various destinations in India — Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab. Earlier this quarter, the travel aggregator had increased its workforce by 60%. Large number of hiring was dedicated towards its plans to scale up its hotel category business. When asked about the reason behind this massive hiring spree, Ayyappan Rajagopal, chief executive officer (CEO) of Cleartrip said, “Cleartrip is actively hiring for their upcoming tech park in Chennai where all the technology-related backhand work will be handled so that we can reach the target of 400 employees by the end of this year.” He further said, “By hiring top talent from the industry across levels, we are infusing fresh energy and ideas into our teams, setting us up for success. As we move forward in 2022, one of our key goals this year is to bring more offerings, scale up our existing verticals to bring more digitally-enabled travel experiences for our customers to boost their confidence while travelling during what has been a difficult time.” The announcement comes after Cleartrip’s acquisition by the Flipkart Group, part of US-based Walmart Group, which has accelerated the brand’s growth strategy to make an end-to-end travel app for the company by the end of 2022. The biggest surge has been spotted in India as consumers spent 80 per cent more time in apps in Q1 2021 than they did in Q1 2019 in the country. In the January-March period this year, daily time spent passed four hours in the US, Turkey, Mexico and India for the first time. In Brazil, South Korea and Indonesia, it was more than five hours. "If we live in an attention economy, then there's no doubt where people are currently directing their eyeballs. Our new data for Q1 2021 reveals that consumers are spending more time than ever in apps - and the surges in some countries have sent daily dwell times past five hours," app analytics firm App Annie said in a report on Thursday. The top apps by downloads, consumer spend and monthly active users (MAUs) across <keyword id="481401" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple-App-Store">Apple App Store</keyword> and Google Play were TikTok, YouTube and Facebook in the January-March quarter. "In Western markets, we can trace the rise of the two market-leading secure messaging products: <keyword id="6380504" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="signal">Signal</keyword> and <keyword id="1275203" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telegram">Telegram</keyword>. Signal places first in the UK, Germany and France, and fourth in the US," the report mentioned. Meanwhile Telegram appears at ninth spot (the UK), fifth (France) and seventh (the US). As in so many areas, China's breakout app chart is unique and quite different from the rest of the world. "If there's a theme within it, it's the emphasis on video sharing and editing. TikTok is at number 1, while Kwai is at 2. Meanwhile CapCut - a video editing app for TikTok is at 7. iQIYI, a video streaming service, places at 3," the report said. Indian app MX Takatak, a local alternative to TikTok, was also seen as the fastest growing app by downloads in the quarter. TikTok led the top downloads chart, followed by Facebook and Instagram. According to the data released by app analytics firm Apptopia, YouTube was third with grossing $478 million, followed by Disney+ at $314 million and Tencent <keyword id="21654" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="video">Video</keyword> at $300 million in 2020. Netflix app was at the 10th spot with grossing $209 million worldwide. "All data is combined iOS + Google Play, except for data from <keyword id="1334" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="China">China</keyword> which is iOS only. If an app has a 'lite' version, that data is included in the respective app's data," the company said in a statement. At 850 million, TikTok was also the most downloaded app in 2020, followed by WhatsApp at 600 million and Facebook at 540 million downloads worldwide. Instagram, also a Facebook family app, was fourth with 503 million downloads and Zoom came fifth with 477 million downloads in a pandemic-hit year where video calling became paramount for millions. Facebook Messenger was sixth with 404 million downloads in the top 10 list. "Sadly, there are no real surprises here. Four of the apps are Facebook owned. Newcomers include Zoom and Google Meet, enabling us to have remote meetings," the company said. "TikTok is no surprise here at the top of both lists," it added. "The last three apps in the global list received most of their downloads in the second half of 2020 as TikTok was banned in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>.
