Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], November 9 (ANI): AdPorts and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has reported robust financial results for the second quarter and the first half ending September 30, 2023, showcasing remarkable growth across key metrics. According to a press release by Adani, APSEZ witnessed a substantial YoY revenue growth of 26 per cent, reaching Rs 12,894 Crores during H1 FY24. The company's Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) recorded an impressive YoY growth of 49 per cent, amounting to Rs 7,429 Crores. Profit After Tax (PAT) increased by 33 per cent YoY, reaching Rs 3,881 Crores. The port EBITDA margin expanded by 220 basis points (bps) YoY to 72 per cent in H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved record cargo volumes of 203 MMT during H1 FY24 across its 8 ports and terminals. Mundra Port, the flagship port, celebrated 25 years of successful operations, handling over 16 MMT of cargo in a month and achieving the 4 Mn TEUs milestone in just 203 days. APSEZ expanded its logistics business, adding 11 rakes, Loni ICD, and warehouses at Mumbai and Indore during H1 FY24. Karan Adani, CEO and Whole Time Director of APSEZ expressed satisfaction with the company's outstanding performance, citing a 14 per cent YoY increase in cargo volume and improved operational efficiencies contributing to the 72 per cent domestic ports EBITDA during H1 FY24. Adani said, "APSEZ achieved another milestone by registering its highest ever half-yearly revenue of Rs 12,894 Crore, EBITDA of Rs 7,429 Crore and cargo volumes of 203 MMT during H1 FY24. The splendid performance was on the back of a 14 per cent YoY increase in cargo volume coupled with improving operational efficiencies at our ports, which has resulted in our domestic ports EBITDA improving by 220bps YoY to 72 per cent during H1 FY24." APSEZ's under-construction port in Sri Lanka secured a funding commitment of USD 553 million from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The logistics business recorded significant growth, with rail volumes up 25 per cent YoY and GPWIS volumes up 42 per cent YoY during H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved an emission intensity reduction of 48 per cent and a water intensity reduction of 58 per cent from the base year (FY2016) as of H1 FY24. The company completed a mangrove plantation of 4,200 Ha against its 2025 target of 5,000 Ha. S&amp;P (DJSI) provided APSEZ with a score of 65 (out of 100), ranking it in the top 4 per cent globally in the Transport and Transport infrastructure sector in its 2023 ESG assessment. Adani ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. records stellar H1 FY24 performance

The investment will range from ports to energy, airports, commodities, cement and media. 70% of this will met through internal cash generation and the remaining will be taken care through debt, group CFO Jugeshinder 'Robbie' Singh noted. The group will look to refinance $3-4 billion of debt maturing in the year and raise an additional $1 billion in project financing, he said, adding the annual $2-2.5 billion of equity infusion by bringing in new investors is also likely to continue. Adani to invest Rs 1.3 lakh crore in FY25 across its companies

He also said that next week, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister <keyword id="545729" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sarbananda-sonowal" source="Orion">Sarbananda Sonowal</keyword> will launch 'Green Port' guidelines to make India's ports green. "Our major ports have handled the highest ever cargo in the history of the ports at 795 million metric tonne. This is 10 per cent higher than the previous year's cargo handled," he told PTI. He also pointed out that after many many years, the major ports have recorded a higher annual growth than that of non-major ports. Non-major ports are administered by state governments. Many state governments have given such ports on lease to private partners. "So, this year (2022-23), major ports achieved an overall growth of 10.4 per cent, while non-major ports achieved a growth 1.5 to 2 per cent less than this," he said. While the share of major ports in the total cargo was 54 per cent and non-major ports was 46 per cent in FY22, Pant said in FY23, the share of major ports rose to 55 per cent and that of non-major ports fell to 45 per cent. "So even 1 per cent shift is a very significant achievement for major ports, because despite so many challenges, they have increased their share by 1 per cent ," he said. Pant also said the inland waterways increased their cargo handling by 16 per cent to 126 million tonne in 2022-23 from 109 million tonne in 2021-22. He said the turnaround time in major ports has reduced by 3-4 hours to 48-49 hours. India's major ports handled highest ever cargo at 795 million tonne in FY23

Passenger car major <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India Ltd had transported over 3.2 lakh vehicles in 2022 through Indian Railway and is setting up dedicated railway sidings at its facilities in Haryana (Manesar) and Gujarat, said a top company official. The company last year transported over 3.2 lakh vehicles using rail wagons, the highest in a calendar year since 2013 when the company got the Automobile Freight Train Operator (AFTO) license. "Going forward, we aim to further increase these numbers. For this, we are setting up dedicated railway sidings at our facilities in Haryana (Manesar) and Gujarat," <keyword id="13455711" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hisashi-takeuchi" source="Orion">Hisashi Takeuchi</keyword>, Managing Director &amp; CEO, said. "Aligned with the Government of India's aim to reach net zero emissions by 2070, we have enhanced our efforts to reduce carbon footprint in our business operations. Our strategy to increase the use of rail mode in outbound logistics has resulted in dispatching record 3.2 lakh vehicles using railways in CY2022," he said. According to him, the use of railway wagons instead of trucks has resulted in offsetting around 1,800 MT of CO2 emissions. "In addition, we have been able to save over 50 million litres of fuel during the year which contributes to enhancing the energy security of our country," <keyword id="333559" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="takeuchi" source="Orion">Takeuchi</keyword> remarked. The share of railways in carrying Maruti Suzuki's cars is on the rise and last calendar year it was 17.1 per cent up from 13.9 per cent/2.2 lakh units in 2021. The AFTO license allows Maruti Suzuki to fabricate and operate high speed, high capacity autowagon rakes on the Indian Railways network. Maruti Suzuki uses 40 specially designed railway rakes to transport vehicles across the country. Each rake has a capacity to carry over 300 vehicles. Maruti Suzuki to increase transport of cars through rail wagons, to set up dedicated railway sidings

Mumbai, Jun 19 () The Mumbai Port Trust on Friday said it has set up a 70-bed 'Covid Care Ashram' by upgrading one of its existing building complexes near its hospital. The facility, it said, will help in reducing the load of the coronavirus infected patients at the hospital and providing holistic treatment to such patients. The Mumbai Port hospital caters to nearly one lakh port employees, their families and pensioners. With the spread of the infection, the hospital has already upgraded to a 120-bed facility for Covid patients with centralised oxygen facility hospital while another 25 beds for the non-Covid hospital, the Mumbai Port Trust said in a statement. Till date, the Mumbai Port hospital has had 611 admissions of Covid patients, it said. As the inflow of Covid patients was continuously increasing, it was decided to create an additional facility by creating a 70-bed 'Covid Care Ashram', the statement said. Along with oxygen supply and some basic facilities of the hospital, it also gives holistic treatment by focusing on conducting Yoga classes, meditation classes, gargling, steam inhalation, sun bath, among others, Mumbai Port Trust Chairman Sanjay Bhatia said in the statement. The wards at the Ashram are spacious, well ventilated and equipped with a bed, table chair, cabinet and a pedestal fan for individuals and they are also equipped with emergency oxygen supply and essential medicines, it added. Mumbai Port Trust sets up 70-bed 'Covid Care Ashram'

The serious disruption caused to traffic flows through the <keyword id="168216" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suez-canal">Suez Canal</keyword> after a container ship went aground, has once again drawn attention to an expanded International North <keyword id="9996536" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="south-corridor">South Corridor</keyword> (INSTC) as a superior transit option in the years to come. Russia, Iran, and India have been quietly working on establishing a 7,200 km-long, multimodal trade corridor called INSTC. As it evolves, the INSTC is adding vital new spurs, fast emerging as a gigantic enterprise, which would link South Asia and West Asia with the beating heart of the Eurasian mainland. "The North-South corridor is a great option to replace the Suez Canal with a reduction in <keyword id="11048224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-times">travel times</keyword> to 20 days and savings of up to 30 percent," Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali wrote in a three-language post on his Facebook page late Saturday. The envoy pointed out that the $9 billion damage to the global economy caused by the Ever Given container vessel, that got struck and blocked international shipping, demonstrates that "the need to speed up the completion of infrastructure and the North-South corridor as an alternative to the route through the Suez Canal has become clear and more important than ever." The ultra-bold INSTC project came into being in 2002, when the transport ministers of Russia, Iran, and India signed an agreement to establish a 7200 kilometer multimodal ship, rail and road-based <keyword id="970255" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="transport-network">transport network</keyword>. Starting from Mumbai, it would head to Moscow via Iran and the Caspian Sea. Currently, the INSTC is set to spread its radials on a much bigger canvass. Essentially, the new INSTC is a combination of two corridors. One starts as originally conceived, from Mumbai and heads to Bandar Abbas, a famous Iranian port in the Gulf. From here it takes the overland route to Bandar Anzali, which is located on the Caspian Sea coast in the north. Containers are off-loaded here and shipped along the Caspian to its Russian shore at Astrakhan, which becomes the base of further transportation into Eurasia. Over time, other countries are being networked in this rapidly mutating corridor including Azerbaijan and Armenia, in tune with the rise of Eurasia in the 21 st century. The second corridor, or the <keyword id="1955428" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chabahar">Chabahar</keyword> route also begins at Mumbai, though Gujarat's upstart Mundra port is now acquiring greater resonance. From India's west coast, the corridor heads to Chabahar, Iran's only <keyword id="12350" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Ocean">Indian Ocean</keyword> port, which is still a work-in-progress with a vast potential. From Chabahar, in which India is pitching major investment, the route heads towards Afghanistan via Iran's Sistan Baluchistan province along a recent India-built road. Over time, a railway is also envisaged, which will link Chabahar with the Hajigak** iron ore mines in Afghanistan, where India has made major investments. Planners of the INSTC now want to link the two routes into a giant undertaking that will allow landlocked regions of Eurasia, not only to access the increasingly congested Bandar Abbas, but also the rapidly expanding <keyword id="190285" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chabahar-port">Chabahar port</keyword> and route. Denting allout criticism that India has been wrongly facing about going overboard with the Indo-pacific Quad and abandoning its "strategic autonomy," New Delhi has actually emerged as a strong votary for the twinning of the two routes, with a vast pan-Eurasian reach. Last month, India and Iran celebrated Chabahar day, where external affairs minister <keyword id="337334" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="S-Jaishankar">S. Jaishankar</keyword> proposed the integration of the Chabahar Port with the INSTC. "I am hopeful that during the INSTC Coordination Council meeting, member-states would agree to the expansion of the INSTC route to include the Chabahar Port and also agree on expanding the membership of this project." To develop the composite route further, Russian and Iranian media have been reporting that serious discussions are underway on the construction of a trans-Iranian canal, running from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea. Analysts, however, say that the plans for a Russian-Iranian trans-Iranian canal are not new. They first emerged in the late 19th century. Ambitious Russian engineers had then charted blueprints for a navigable canal, which would offer Moscow a shorter path to the Indian Ocean, bypassing the Turkish Straits and Egypt's Suez Canal. But political crises and revolutions in both countries had kept the idea frozen. However, with the Suez route once again demonstrating its vulnerability, the idea of an alternative trade passage may have finally arrived. The best part is that you don't need to be a swimmer to try scuba diving. The crystal blue waters are so clear that you can always opt for snorkelling if you want to skip scuba diving. There is also an excellent night kayaking expedition that takes you through the mangroves. Radhanagar beach is flanked by the ocean on one side and lush rainforest on the other. This west-facing beach is ideal for catching the sunset. This is where most of the restaurants, hotels and snorkelling centres are situated. The beach faces east and is, therefore, a great place to catch the sunrise. The restaurants here are a seafood lovers paradise, serving up a fantastic variety of fresh red snappers, calamari, prawns, and so much more. That being said, there are plenty of vegetarian options too. Accommodation There are plenty of hotels to choose from high-end Taj Hotels to more affordable options like Wild Orchid, SilverSand Beach Resort, Munjoh Ocean Resort and Symphony Palms Beach Resort. The hotels are clean, and most are environmentally conscious. Most hotels and restaurants on the Island provide only RO water and not plastic bottles, as is sadly the norm elsewhere. The booking process is slightly cumbersome, but you can get a travel agent to take care of everything, which will still be cheaper than private options. MV Makruzz and Coastal Cruise are the private companies that ferry people across to the Island. They take around 1.5 hours to get to Havelock. Connectivity If you are hankering for some serious digital detox there is no better place than Havelock. There is limited to no connectivity on the island. BSNL is the only cellular service that works but the network is patchy. Momo insists all guests should play with him and will bring you a coconut husk that you need to pry out of his mouth and throw so that he can fetch it, thus providing an excellent way to drive away the blues. <div type="image" title="Cellular Jail" msid="81128022" hostid="261"></div> Another site that may be worth a visit, especially if you are a history buff, is the colonial prison called Cellular Jail (Kālā Pānī) that is where most freedom fighters, including Veer Savarkar, were shipped off to before independence. There is an informative light show in the evening and the tour of the jail itself is quite fascinating. <div type="image" title="Limestone Caves" msid="81128047" hostid="261"></div> BARATANG MANGROVE FOREST AND LIMESTONE CAVES To experience the fascinating limestone caves and mangrove forests in <keyword id="5041058" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baratang-Island">Baratang Island</keyword>, you will have to head to the Jirkatang check post (a little over an hour-long-drive from Port Plair), which marks the beginning of the area where the Jarawa tribes of Andaman Islands live. After the clearance is done, you can drive through Jarawa reserve forest, but note that taking photos is strictly not prohibited. Once you reach the other end, you have to take a ferry to cross the water and arrive at Baratang. Here you can take a permit and board a speedboat to ride through the mangroves and arrive at a trekking spot from where you have to walk for 1.2 km through villages to reach the spectacular limestone caves. The journey may sound daunting, but this is one of the unforgettable experiences you wouldn't want to miss. <keyword id="6356847" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword>, The <keyword id="6370685" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-government">Gujarat government</keyword> on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the private infrastructure company, <keyword id="10640651" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Port-SEZ-ltd">Adani Port &amp; SEZ Ltd</keyword>., to setup the country's largest multi-modal <keyword id="406927" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="logistics-park">logistics park</keyword> at Sanand with an estimated investment of ₹50,000 crore. The proposed 1,450 acre park will have a dedicated air cargo complex with 4.6 km long runway to handle even large sized cargo aircraft and will offer direct air, rail and road connectivity. It will also have a provision of direct rail connectivity with dedicated freight corridor which is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). It will have potential to generate direct and indirect employment for 25,000 persons. According to the state government, the project will be completed in a phased manner in three years as the work will commence within six months after obtaining required clearances and permissions. There will be a 90 lakh sq ft warehouse zone with facilities such as air freight station, grade-A warehouse, cold storage among others in the park. The warehouse will have 38 lakh sq ft space for textile, bulk, e-commerce, nine lakh sq ft space for bonder warehouse, four lakh grade-A palatized facility and 60,000 temperature controlled palletized facility. Against 3.3 lakh capacity, a container yard in this park will have four handling lines with TEU (twenty ft equivalents). The park will have three lakh square feet of space for business and skill development centre. The Central government has sanctioned ₹2 lakh crore for setting up of multi-modal mega logistics parks in 34 cities of the country. Cities like Vijayawada, Chennai, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Surat, Hyderabad and Gauhati are selected among others. Six cities of Gujarat are selected, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat,Bharuch, Valsad and Kandla, where these projects will be set up on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. 60 per cent of the cargo in the country is transferred via road. The transportation cost is 14% of the GDP in the country, which the Central government wants to bring down to 7%. Gujarat government signs pact with Adani Port to setup largest multi-modal logistics park

Visakhapatnam, Apri 2 (): The Visakhapatnam PortTrust (VPT) has set an all-time high of handlingover 72.72 million metric tonnes of cargo during the fiscal2019-20, VPTchairman K Rama Mohana Rao said on Thursday.In a statement here, he saidthe port handled 72.72million metric tonnes of cargo as against 65.30 millionmetric tonnes handled during 2018-19.Also, the port achieved anincremental growth of 11.5 per cent, that is, 7.42 million metric tonnes. With this growth, Visakhapatnam Port has scaled upto third positionamong the major ports after Kandla andParadip Ports, surpassing JNPT and Mumbai Ports. This is the best-ever cargo handled in the 86-yearhistory of Visakhapatnam Port since 1933. It surpassed comfortably the nine-year-old recordof 68 million tonnes, handled by the port in 2010-11, whenthe privateports like Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam were notactive at that time. Record handling of cargo by Vizag Port

A structure taller than <keyword id="6354539" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dubai">Dubai</keyword>'s iconic 163-floor <keyword id="92239" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Burj-Khalifa">Burj Khalifa</keyword> with a green boulevard bigger than Mumbai's Marine Drive will form part of a new eastern waterfront to be developed on a wasteland in the country's financial capital, to news agency PTI. These grand plans are part of a dream project of Nitin <keyword id="6361025" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gadkari">Gadkari</keyword>, the union minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, who sees the <keyword id="386705" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MUmbai-port">Mumbai Port</keyword> Trust as the "richest landlord" of the city and wants to give a makeover to its huge swathes of industrial wasteland. "In Mumbai, we are the number one landlord. The iconic Taj Hotel, the Ballard Estate, the Reliance building, we (MbPT) are the owners. There are beautiful plans to develop the huge land with the port," Gadkari told PTI. The plans are ready and we are awaiting Centre's nod, the Minister said. "We are not giving our land to the builders and investors. We have plans to develop the area...We are making a green, smart road, three times bigger than the Marine Drive. We plan historic landmark bigger than Burj Khalifa. The plan is ready, we are waiting for the approval from the Cabinet," Gadkari said. MbPT, which was earlier called the Bombay Port Trust, is one of the largest public land holders in Mumbai city and has been operating the port since 1873. It is one of the top 12 major ports in the country. "About 500 hectares is proposed to be developed with a mix of port operations, business, office, commercial, retail, entertainment, community projects and convention centres, etc," a top official said. A key feature of the plan is a 7-km long marine drive between Mazagaon Docks and <keyword id="157686" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wadala">Wadala</keyword>, much bigger than the existing Marine Drive. The proposed projects also include creation of spaces for community recreation and engagement, maritime museum, marinas etc. Mumbai Port has already invited global tender from consulting firms for master plan and infrastructure design of the port. The Centre had earlier sup a committee under the chairmanship of R Jadhav for preparing a roadmap for development of Port's waterfront and land, which has already been submitted to the Ministry of Shipping. Gadkari said the <keyword id="6390662" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="shipping-ministry">Shipping Ministry</keyword> has plans to develop other ports too. "We are planning development of <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> Port. The Minister said there was no paucity of resources nor land as there is "one lakh hectares of land" among ports and the government has already come up with ambitious Rs 14 lakh crore Sagarmala project for port-led development of the country. Major ports in India have between them 2.64 lakh acres of land. A blueprint for utilisation of land available with 12 major ports was underway while consultants are also in the process of submitting a report on how to utilise 1.98 lakh acres of submerged land with ports, according to news agency PTI. India's 12 major ports handle approximately 61 per cent of the country's total cargo traffic. The roadmap for port land assumes significance, given a CAG report which observed that major ports had failed to utilise close to half of the total land under their possession. "Land measuring 22,949.82 acres was identified for future activities by ports while 13,045.56 acres were yet to be earmarked for any future activity," the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) had said in a report. According to the audit report on 'Land Management in Major Ports', out of the total land holding of 77,191.14 acres, title deeds were not available for 34,943.41 acres representing 45.27 per cent of the total land portfolio. The 12 major ports are Kandla, Mumbai, JNPT, Marmugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore, VO Chidambarnar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including <keyword id="54017" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="haldia">Haldia</keyword>). The cabinet last year had approved a policy for award of waterfront and associated land to port dependent industries in major ports.
