While the US topped the list, India is ranked highest in South Asia and among the lower-middle-income economies, the <keyword id="102110" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="WEF" source="Orion">WEF</keyword> said. India was ranked 54th in the previously published index in 2021, though changes made to the index parameters limit its comparability to earlier years. After the US, Spain, Japan, France and Australia figure among the top five in the 2024 list. The index, prepared in collaboration with the University of Surrey, showed India is highly price-competitive (18th) and boasts competitive Air Transport (26th) and Ground and Port (25th) infrastructure. In particular, India's strong Natural (6th), Cultural (9th) and Non-Leisure (9th) Resources help drive travel, and the country is only one of three to score in the top 10 for all the resource pillars, the WEF said. Moreover, despite a decline compared to 2019, the country still scores well for <keyword id="2173225" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-and-tourism" source="Orion">travel and tourism</keyword> demand sustainability, especially thanks to more sustainable long stays among inbound visitors. It further said that as with many economies, travel and tourism enabling conditions in India have been impacted by global inflationary supply-side trends for the sector, with price competitiveness declining, while air transport and tourist services infrastructure are yet to recover to the 2019 level. As a result, the country's overall TTDI (Travel and Tourism Development Index) score is 2.1 per cent below its 2019 level. High-income economies in Europe and Asia-Pacific continued to lead the index. "International tourist arrivals and the travel and tourism sector's contribution to global GDP are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels this year, driven by the lifting of COVID-19-related travel restrictions and strong pent-up demand," the WEF said. The Middle East had the highest recovery rates in international tourist arrivals (20 per cent above the 2019 level), while Europe, Africa and the Americas all showed a strong recovery of around 90 per cent in 2023. The biennial index analysed the travel and tourism sectors of 119 countries around a range of factors and policies. Germany was ranked 6th, followed by the UK, China, Italy and Switzerland in the top ten. The results highlighted that high-income economies generally continue to have more favourable conditions for travel and tourism development. New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): Mumbai and New Delhi are among cities in India that recorded a sharp annual increase in their <keyword id="6354553" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="real-estate" source="Orion">real estate</keyword> prices in the first quarter of 2024, according to a report by London-headquartered global property consultancy firm <keyword id="6363605" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Knight-Frank" source="Orion">Knight Frank</keyword>. In case of Bengaluru, the average real estate prices witnessed a modest 4.8 per cent rise in prime residential or luxury homes during the January-March quarter of 2024. According to the report by the property consultant, titled '<keyword id="22041946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Global-Cities-Index-Q1-2024" source="Orion">Prime Global Cities Index Q1 2024</keyword>', Mumbai's significant rise on the international index was largely due to the rise in demand in the city. While the demand has been strong for all segments, there has been a rise in the sale of higher value products. Mumbai recorded the third highest year-on-year growth in prime residential prices in Q1-2024, pushing it up the ranking table by three places to 3rd position from its 6th position in Q1-2023. Delhi NCR rose from 17th rank in Q1-2023 to 5th in Q1-2024 with a growth of 10.5 per cent on a yearly basis. However, Bengaluru observed a slight decline in ranking from 16th place in Q1-2024 to 17th rank in Q1-2024, even while it recorded a 4.8 per cent yearly growth in residential prices. India's main cities, notably New Delhi and Mumbai, have witnessed a surge in house prices driven by robust economic growth, with annual GDP growth exceeding 8 per cent in the just concluded financial year 2023-24. Manila, the capital city of Philippines, claimed the top spot in the ranking with a 26.2 per cent annual rise in prices. The growth, as per the Knight Frank report, can be attributed to two key factors: purchasing power, and substantial infrastructure investments within and around the city. Tokyo in Japan jumped 17 places up with 12.5 per cent yearly price growth and ranked 2nd in the index. Despite Japan's overall population decline, Tokyo sustains a net population growth owing to migration from other regions within the country. Shishir Baijal, Chairman and Managing Director at Knight Frank India said, "The strong demand trend for residential properties has been a global phenomenon, led by gateway markets of Asia- Pacific and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa)." "Like its peers in these regions, the improved rankings of Mumbai and New Delhi on the Prime Global Cities Index was underscored by the resilience in sales growth volume. We expect the momentum of sales to remain stable over the next few quarters as the economic conditions are likely to remain broadly unchanged." The Prime Global Cities Index is a valuation-based index tracking the movement of prime residential prices across 44 cities worldwide. The index tracks nominal prices in local currency.

"The sector has big potential to foster prosperity and mitigate global risks, but that potential can only be fully realized through a strategic and inclusive approach." Highlighting critical gender gaps and opportunity barriers faced by women and <keyword id="28603" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mothers">mothers</keyword> at the workplace in the country, the LinkedIn Opportunity Index 2021 said that 69 per cent of working mothers face discrimination due to familial responsibilities. The findings showed that nine in 10 (89 per cent) women stated that they were negatively impacted by the pandemic. Even though 66 per cent of people in India feel that gender equality has improved compared to their parents' age, India's working women still contend the strongest gender bias across <keyword id="119132" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asia-Pacific">Asia Pacific</keyword> countries. When asked about their reasons for being unhappy with opportunities to advance in their careers, 1 in 5 (22 per cent) <keyword id="6355058" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="work">work</keyword>ing women in India said their companies exhibit a 'favourable bias' towards men at work, when compared to the regional average of 16 per cent. "It is the need of the hour for organisations to reimagine their diversity practices and offer greater flexibility to caregivers, in order to increase female participation in the workforce," said Ruchee Anand, Director, Talent and Learning Solutions, India, at LinkedIn. Reduced and flexible schedules, more sabbaticals, and new opportunities to upskill and learn are critical offerings that can help organisations attract, hire, and retain more female talent, she added. While 37 per cent of working women said they get fewer opportunities than men, only 25 per cent of men agree with this. This disparity in perception is also seen in conversations about equal pay, as more women (37 per cent) say they get less pay than men, while only 21 per cent men share this sentiment. In India, the top three job opportunities sought by both men and women are job security, a job that they love, and good work-life balance. But despite having similar goals, more women (63 per cent) think a person's gender is important to get ahead in life, when compared to men (54 per cent), the report mentioned. In fact, about two-thirds of working women (63 per cent) and working mothers (69 per cent) said they have faced discrimination at work because of familial and household responsibilities. Lack of required professional skills, and a lack of guidance through networks and connections are also some of the other barriers that get in the way of career development for working women in India, the report mentioned. More than one in two women are also looking for more professional connections and mentors who can help them advance their careers, as 65 per cent women agreed that lack of guidance through networks is a key opportunity barrier, the LinkedIn report added. Russia is conducting maintenance on the Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline that is scheduled to end by Thursday. Too much depends on these two events," Commerzbank strategist Antje Praefcke said.The <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/eur-usd">euro</a> last week fell below parity against the US dollar for the first time in 20 years, as traders ramped up their bets that the Fed will be more aggressive in its pursuit of taming inflation than its European counterpart. The ECB is set to raise eurozone rates by just one-quarter of a point, compared with hikes totaling 1.5 percentage points delivered by the US central bank this year.The single European currency was last up 1.1% against the dollar at $1.0258, but still set for a 2.6% drop this month.On the stock market, the pan-European <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/stoxx_europe_600">Stoxx 600</a> was broadly flat, while in Asia, the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index fell 0.3%, hovering near two-year lows. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Shares of companies with big overseas sales are trailing domestic-focused firms, according to Goldman Sachs. </li><li>A basket of stocks of domestic focused companies was outperforming firms with overseas tilt by nine percentage points. </li></ul>Stocks across Wall Street have been hammered into a bear market this year, but those of companies that derive the bulk of their sales outside of the US have trailed those of companies that are domestically oriented, Goldman Sachs said this week. The slump in the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest">S&amp;P 500</a> and the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/nasdaq_composite?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest?utm_source=markets&amp;utm_medium=ingest">Nasdaq Composite</a> has pushed the major indexes down by more than 20% in 2022, with the tech-rich Nasdaq sitting on a loss of 26%. Analysis from Goldman Sachs published Friday showed the pain of stock losses has been particularly sharp for companies with a heavy amount of international sales. The investment bank said a basket of stocks it tracks with high domestic sales exposure has outperformed a basket of multinational stocks by nine percentage points this year. That leaves the international basket down by 24%, wider than the 15% decline in the domestic bunch. Goldman's international sales and domestic sales baskets each hold 50 S&amp;P 500 stocks with the greatest share of non-US and domestic revenues.Foreign sales in 2021 accounted for 29% of the $14 trillion of aggregate S&amp;P 500 revenues, compared with 28% in 2020.What's helped provide upside support for US-focused companies is the climb in the trade-weighted US <keyword id="11931694" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dollar" source="Orion">dollar</keyword>'s value, Goldman said. The <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/indices/us-dollar-index">US Dollar Index</a>, which measures the greenback's performance against six other <keyword id="11931696" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="currencies" source="Orion">currencies</keyword>, this year has soared to fresh 20-year highs above the 105 level. But dollar strength can hurt multinational companies in part as it makes their products more expensive for holders of other currencies to purchase. What's also put pressure on the multinationals basket is the Information Technology sector as it rakes in 59% of its revenue from overseas. Tech stocks have plunged as the climb in interest rates can lead to chipped prospects for future profit. The materials sector is the only other one that makes most of its revenue from overseas, at 50%. The largest region of non-US exposure was Asia Pacific at 9%, or $1 trillion, followed by Europe at 6%, or $846 billion. But only 3%, or $370 billion, of S&amp;P 500 revenues were explicitly from Greater <keyword id="11892748" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="china" source="Orion">China</keyword>, said Goldman, which conducted its analysis on recent 10-K annual corporate filings. On a regional basis, it said Monolithic Power, Qualcomm and Las Vegas Sands were the companies with the largest revenue exposure to Greater China. In Greater Europe, the list was topped by travel services company Bookings and gold miner Newmont. APA, the parent firm of oil and gas company Apache, and American Tower, a REIT, has the greatest exposure to sales in Africa and the Middle East.

Data on Friday showed the US economy added 428,000 jobs in April, in line with March's downwardly revised 428,000 gain and beating forecasts for a 391,000 increase. This was the 12th month in a row that nonfarm payrolls rose by over 400,000.The <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/trading/interest-rates/countdown-to-fomc.html">futures market</a> now indicates an almost-50% chance that US rates will reach 3.00% by the end of the year, from 1% right now. Just six weeks ago, the chances were closer to 14%. Since then, data releases have shown inflation has not abated, but economic growth has also been reasonably resilient, which could give the Fed room to raise rates faster without risking a slowdown."With inflation running hot, it's going to take a fairly sizable risk-off move to get the Fed to re-pivot dovish," Jefferies strategist David Zervos said. "There is almost no downside for Fed in acting aggressively, and even if they expect inflation to head lower in coming quarters, why not go big on the accommodation-removal front and then take credit for the dis-inflationary successes?" he said.US stock futures sagged, with those on the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/futures/s&amp;p-500-futures">S&amp;P 500</a>, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/futures/dow-futures">Dow Jones</a> and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/futures/nasdaq-100-futures">Nasdaq 100</a> falling between 1.2% and 1.6%. Any larger-than-expected falls can perhaps suggest that the Fed need not be as aggressive in its hiking plans," ING strategists led by Chris Turner said in a note.In addition to Russia's war in Ukraine, and the disruption to the flow of key commodities from crude oil to steel and sunflower oil, investors are having to grapple with the risks to the economy from the outbreak of COVID-19 in China that has forced lockdowns all over the country and dented growth.Chinese trade data on Monday showed exports hit a two-year low in April.
