Mumbai, Jun 17 () Town planning authority MMRDA on Wednesday handed over the second phase of its COVID-19 hospital at BKC, comprising 1,000 beds, to local civic body BMC. The financial capital has been the worst-hit by the deadly coronavirus, reporting more than 60,000 infections and 3,170 fatalities so far. The second phase of the hospital was completed in 17 days. It has 100 beds with ICU services, while the other 900 are divided into oxygen and non-oxygen facility equally. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray virtually inaugurated the facility, which has been handed over to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had handed over around 1,037 beds with ICU facility to the BMC in May-end. The first facility had weathered the Nisarga cyclone which passed the Mumbai coast on June 3, but as a precaution, over 150 coronavirus patients were shifted to another location. While the first phase of the hospital was made for non-critical COVID-19 patients, the second phase will be treating critical symptomatic patients. The COVID-19 hospital, set up along with Jupiter Hospital, also has a pathology lab with facilities for blood tests, an ECG machine and other testing equipment along with rooms for doctors and nurses. "We are happy to set up this mega health care centre at BKC for the treatment of COVID positive patients. It gives me immense confidence that we were able to do our bit in this critical time of pandemic," Metropolitan Commissioner R A Rajeev said. According to MMRDA, the makeshift hospital has been constructed using German tent technology, and the structure is designed to be waterproof. "MMRDA has taken utmost care of the usual flood lines of the area where the hospital is being constructed. Interestingly, even during danger of cyclone Nisarga the previously constructed Phase-I Covid care centre at BKC remains unaffected," Rajeev added. The authority further said more than 500 patients are receiving treatment in the first phase of the COVID-19 care centre and nearly 30 patients are being discharged everyday. The authority has spent Rs 19.01 crore for the first facility, while the cost incurred for the second facility is yet to be ascertained. Global private equity firm Blackstone has provided financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for this facility to buy medical equipment, the authority said. PSK ABM ABM

MMRDA adds 1,000 beds to COVID-19 hospital

Mumbai, Jan 31 () Town planning authority MMRDA on Friday said it is mulling realignment of a stretch of the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan metro 5 corridor, following mounting opposition from shopkeepers and residents of Bhiwandi.
 Taking cognisance of the protests by the locals of Bhiwandi, Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde had directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the project implementing agency, to consider changing the route.
 "There is an opposition from the locals regarding the alignment of the route between the Kalyan-Bhiwandi stretch. We are now looking at all the possibilities if there can be a realignment or tweaking of the route on that stretch," MMRDA Commissioner R A Rajeev told reporters.
 Work on the first phase of the project from Thane to Bhiwandi has begun after a contractor was appointed in September 2019. However, the work from Bhiwandi to Kalyan is yet to start.
 When asked if the realignment would result in cost escalation, Rajeev said it would be decided when the project (between Bhiwandi and Kalyan) would be tendered.
 The metro corridor has witnessed demands for realigning the line from Durgadi to Adharwadi chowk and from Khadakpada to Birla College.
 The proposed 24.9 km-long elevated Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan corridor will have 17 stations and will cost Rs 8,416 crore. It will connect Thane to Bhiwandi and Kalyan in the eastern suburbs.
 The stations include Kapurbawdi in Thane (West), Balkum Naka, Kasheli, Kalher, Purna, Anjur Phata, Dhamankar Naka, Bhiwandi, Gopal Nagar, Temghar, Rajnouli Village, Govegaon MIDC, Kongaon, Durgadi Fort, Sahajanand Chowk and Kalyan Railway Station. PSK ABM

The financial capital of the country, <keyword id="19895282" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai" source="keywords">Mumbai</keyword>, is set to get its first <keyword id="22447857" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="underground-metro" source="keywords">underground metro</keyword> (<keyword id="20470518" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aqua-Line" source="keywords">Aqua Line</keyword>) on July 24, <keyword id="19931558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Bharatiya Janata Party" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Bharatiya Janata Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword>'s general secretary Vinod Tawde said in a post on "X". BJP Leader Tawde said in a post on social media "X", "Prime Minister @NarendraModi ji had given a guarantee to make the life of Mumbaikars easier and this is going to be fulfilled. Mumbai's first underground metro (Aqua Line) is starting from July 24, which will give new impetus to the speed of the city." This new metro line will cover a distance of 33.5 kilometres. Mumbai's first underground metro line will run through Colaba, <keyword id="19907248" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bandra" source="keywords">Bandra</keyword>, and <keyword id="20170419" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEEPZ" source="keywords">SEEPZ</keyword> (Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone). Running a 33.5 km route from Aarey Colony to Cuffe Parade with 27 stops, it will transform urban transit, easing travel across Mumbai's streets and reducing traffic congestion. The new metro line will have stations at Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CST Metro, Kalbadevi, Girgaon, Grant Road, Mumbai Central Metro, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atre Chowk, Worli, Siddhivinayak, Dadar, Shitladevi, Dharavi, BKC, Vidyanagari, Santacruz, Domestic Airport, Sahar Road, International Airport, Marol Naka, MIDC, SEEPs and Aarey Depot. Separately, in the last week of June this year, the government of Maharashtra decided to complete the <keyword id="21117856" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metro" source="keywords">Mumbai Metro</keyword> 3 project by the end of December 2024. The first phase of Mumbai Metro 3, will run between SEEPZ (Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone) and Bandra Kurla Complex. The project will be completed by the end of December 2024, which was initially scheduled to be completed by September 2024. During the cabinet meeting, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave its nod to giving the state government's share of Rs 1,163 crore directly to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, instead of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the completion of the project. According to the government, the project has achieved the completion of 98% and its revised cost is Rs 37,275.50 crore. As per the information available on the website of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, about 99.2% of civil works under the project have been completed. About 97% of the overall station construction has been completed. Under the project, tunnelling works have been fully completed, while 77.6% of overall systems work, depot civil works 99.8% and mainline track works have been completed almost 87% The introduction of the metro transportation system has witnessed a significant response in the city as the daily ridership of the Mumbai Metro has witnessed a significant increase. On July 24, 2023, the ridership reached 2,12,490, followed by 2,18,635 on July 25, 2023. The highest recorded ridership was on July 26, 2023, with 2,22,290 passengers. This surge in ridership has been observed specifically on the Metro 2A and 7 lines, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation said in a release.

Mumbai's first underground metro line set to begin operations on July 24

If things work as planned, <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> will have at least two operational metro lines in 2020 connecting the western suburbs of the city. The two corridors, Metro Line-2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) and Metro Line-7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East), are proposed to be commissioned simultaneously in 2020, the <keyword id="64095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metropolitan-Region-Development-Authority">Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority</keyword> (MMRDA) said in a statement. MMRDA has not yet received possession of land for a car depot for Metro Line-7 as the land parcel is currently with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
 MMRDA had proposed to give AAI another land in Gorai in lieu of their land. However, currently, this land has got a stay by the Bombay High Court as it had been earmarked for a law university.
 Meanwhile, MMRDA has also claimed that corridors, Line-2B (DN Nagar-Mandale), Line-4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali) and Line-6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Vikhroli), will be operational by 2021.
 The Supreme Court has restrained MMRDA from chopping trees for construction of the Metro Line-4 and asked to maintain status quo on felling of trees for the project. It had also sought replies from the MMRDA and the state.
 The ambitious Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor, being implemented by the <keyword id="117023" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-metro">Mumbai Metro</keyword> Rail Corporation (MMRC), has been facing several roadblocks and also missed its deadlines, which is now expected to be commissioned in 2021. After the change of dispensation in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered a stay on the construction of a metro car-shed for Metro Line-3 in <keyword id="6370614" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="aarey">Aarey</keyword> colony, touted as the city's green lungs. Protests by locals, NGOs and the chief minister's son who is now a Cabinet minister, Aditya Thackeray, led to Uddhav Thackeray making this announcement soon after taking charge.
 "Once completed, these five lines -- 2A, 7, 2B, 4 and 6 -- with an aggregate worth of Rs 44,869 crore are expected to serve more than 50 lakh commuters at around 98 stations across the city," the MMRDA said.
 These lines are expected to make a considerable commuter shift by 35 per cent, thus easing the gruelling grind that the suburban rail network is, it said.
 "We are overcoming the biggest challenge one might face, which was to do these development projects without having to completely stop the vehicular traffic even for 10 minutes. It will be an accomplishment to showcase to the entire world. Mumbaikars have shown great patience. Now, it is time to reap rewards," MMRDA Commissioner R A Rajeev said.
 Apart from these, Mumbai will also witness works on projects like Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) and the Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor having an aggregate cost of Rs 31,430 crore. 
 The ambitious Rs 17,843-crore MTHL project will be connecting Sewri with Nhava Sheva and help solve the traffic congestion in the island city by improving connectivity between Mumbai and <keyword id="57321" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navi-Mumbai">Navi Mumbai</keyword>. "Besides these, there are several other bridges and connectors which will be beneficial to Mumbaikars. There are two flyovers, with an estimated cost of around Rs 163 crore and a road coming up to clear the BKC junction, among others proposed," MMRDA said. PSK HRS

In 2020, Mumbai's Western suburbs could have two operational metro lines

Japanese multinational corporation (MNC) <keyword id="199230" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sumitomo-Corporation">Sumitomo Corporation</keyword> has bid a staggering Rs 2,238 crore for a three-acre plot in the prime Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in central Mumbai, an official said here on Tuesday. "We have received the bid from the company for the plot here. However, the bid will be scrutinised and evaluated and will undergo our processes for other formal approvals before it is finalised. We cannot fix a timeframe for this," Dilip Kawathkar, Executive Director, <keyword id="64095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metropolitan-Region-Development-Authority">Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority</keyword> (MMRDA), told IANS. The bid, which works out to around Rs 745 crore per acre, is billed among the biggest in the country in recent times, though the MMRDA officials declined to elaborate. Officials said if Sumitomo Corporation wins the bid, it may be entitled to a floor space index (FSI) of 4 permissible on the BKC plot, or a built-up area of approximately a million square feet.
