Concurrently, ongoing discussions are taking place with potential investors from Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore for Series A2 funding, targeting an infusion of USD 15 million, it added. After the Tiago EV, Tata is expected to launch the Punch in the EV market. The Punch is expected to retain much of its looks from the petrol variant. Volvo India is focusing on increasing its electric car market. The C40 Recharge is expected to be launched at a price range of around ₹60 lakh. The C-MPV is expected to have a 2L engine, which Toyota's hybrid technology will power. The car can offer an impressive mileage of 22 kmpl. Maruti Suzuki may launch the C-MPV in late 2023 at an expected price of around ₹20 lakh. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:16pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">Nissan X-trail</h3>Nissan recently unveiled the fourth generation of the X-Trail. The Nissan X-Trail is expected to be launched in mid-2023. The X-Trail is an SUV by Nissan that will have two variants of hybrid systems: Strong Hybrid and Mild Hybrid. The car is expected to be launched at around ₹40 lakhs. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:16pt;margin-bottom:4pt;">Nissan Qashqai</h3>The Nissan Qashqai is an SUV based on the CMF-C platform, which was jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The Qashqai is expected to have a 1.3L petrol engine supported by a Mild-Hybrid power motor. The car is expected to be launched at around ₹30 lakhs. The Qashqai is expected to be launched after the Nissan X-Trail so we can expect its launch in late 2023 or early 2024.

<keyword id="23820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="footwear" source="Orion">Footwear</keyword> retailers have sought more time for the implementation of norms of the Quality Control Order, 2020 (QCO), for footwear manufacturers. QCO norms for footwear are slated to be enforced from July 1 in the country. Retailers have urged the government to give them 8-10 months of additional time from the effective date of the QCO for footwear manufacturers. This request is meant to allow retailers to place orders and procure stocks of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-compliant footwear from manufacturers, the retailers said in their request. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) issued QCO for footwear made from leather, rubber or polymer. Once implemented, it will make it compulsory to conform with the Indian Standards and footwear products will also be required to bear a Standard Mark under a licence. Saurabh Sanyal, CEO and Secretary, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), said that the implementation of QCO at this crucial juncture without much time for transition for the retail industry has created a precarious situation and will be an impediment to the operation, growth and sustenance of the footwear retail sector. "While the industry is gearing up for readiness of QCO compliance for new manufacturing, as of now there has been no clarity for applicability of QCO on the inventory manufactured or procured prior to June 30, 2023 (before QCO effective date), for which large capital has been deployed by pan-India retailers while incurring a huge amount of taxes, duties and levies," Sanyal said. The retailers said that most of the manufacturing plants still do not have internal testing facilities within their premises. They will require further investments and time for setting up such facilities before applying for the BIS registration and certification process. According to the PHDCCI statement, only a miniscule of manufacturers or suppliers have been able to receive the BIS licences till date with 30 licences issued across 10 leather footwear categories, and 18 licences for 13 categories of non-leather footwear. At the current pace, the certification process for most manufacturers will not be completed even after the QCO's effective date, it added. Moreover, the retail industry players said that they were determined to adopt the QCO and are aligned with Prime Minister's clarion call for "Zero-Defect-Zero Effect" manufacturing. They said that while the manufacturers have already commenced the process for getting BIS registration and licences to comply with QCO requirements, the existing infrastructure and testing facilities are not sufficient to cater to the current requirements of stringent BIS testing and certification for all the manufacturers and products being manufactured. BIS had still not come up with product manuals for some standards, testing equipment required, testing methodologies and procedures, they added. Footwear retailers seek 8-10 month extension to implement BIS quality control order

The country's largest carmaker, which could not produce around 1.7 lakh units last fiscal due to semiconductor shortage, is also coming up with measures to reduce the usage of certain kinds of chips in its cars. "The problem (chip shortage) is a global one..it could affect different models, different companies, different modules differently..all our efforts are to organise supplies through multiple sources," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Executive Officer (Corporate Affairs) Rahul Bharti said in an analyst call. He noted that the company is working to do away with certain chips in some models/trims where the requirement is superfluous. "If there is a particular semiconductor in a particular variant of a model which is superfluous and not required..so we are removing all such needs so that our consumption is minimum. All such efforts are going on including negotiations at global scale. Having said that we are still vulnerable to supply side bottlenecks," Bharti noted. When asked about the company position in the ongoing fiscal, he said: "We do not have full year visibility but at least Q1 will be tough and broadly the uncertainty continues." Semiconductors are silicon chips that cater to control and memory functions in products ranging from automobiles, computers and cellphones to various other electronic items. The usage of semiconductors in the auto industry has gone up globally in recent times with new models coming with more and more electronic features such as bluetooth connectivity and driver-assist, navigation and hybrid-electric systems. Replying to a query, Bharti confirmed that the strong hybrid technology introduced in Grand Vitara could be launched in more models. "We have got a very positive response..we plan to bring it (strong hybrid) in more models also," he stated. On sales growth outlook for this fiscal, Bharti said industry body SIAM estimates the passenger vehicle industry to grow between 5-7 per cent. "Maruti Suzuki should grow well beyond this. So we would be better than the industry," he noted. MSI CFO Ajay Seth noted that the company has lined up Rs 8,000 crore capex in the current fiscal with capital set to go into the construction of the Sonipat plant, development of new models and annual maintenance of existing infrastructure. He noted that the company has strengthened its presence in the sports utility vehicle segment with Brezza and Grand Vitara thereby increasing its market share in the vertical. "Moving forward with Jimny and Fronx, the SUV portfolio of the company will be further strengthened. With this the company aims to secure a leadership position in the SUV segment," Seth said. He noted that the company believes in offering products and technologies which are relevant to the Indian market context.
