To celebrate this journey, renowned <keyword id="1105" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="art">art</keyword> collector <keyword id="4443" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="renu-Modi">Renu Modi</keyword> is hosting first of its kind show at her <keyword id="4444" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gallery-Espace">Gallery Espace</keyword> called ‘Diaries Entries’. This show brings together five different generations of women artists- Nilima Sheikh, Paula Sengupta, Benitha Perciyal, Sheba Chhachi, Hemali Bhuta, who explore different art forms too. 

	While rejoicing her 26 years of experience in art, Renu still feels threatened by the regressive emerging political ideologies against freedom of art. These fanatics drove <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Thank-you-MF-Husain-Regards-Narendra-Modi/articleshow/48999922.cms">MF Hussain</a>, a family friend of Renu and her greatest inspiration, out of the country!
 

	“Sometimes it does happen that one can’t do what he/she wants to do. One is always weary of the physical damage that these fanatics can do to my physical space,” she said.
 

	She accepted that she does think twice before putting up a piece of art in my gallery, especially after the Bhupen Khakkar incident. The artist, much to his dismay, had to make changes to his art as he was violating the ‘Flag code’ in his wooden sculpture.
 

	As art is the representation of present times, Renu added, “In the present times, it is very difficult to draw the line between vulgarity and freedom of art.”
 

	And, if ever a time comes when some people would come and tell me to take down an art from my show, she said she would agree to their whims. A strong statement made by a person whose mentor was exiled from the country.
 

	“I won’t do it because there is no point in creating another controversy. It will harm art in the long run. If there is too much of risk, I won’t show it,” she said.
 

	Even after all these imaginary obstacles created by people with political interests, women artists have braved them all and come out and conquered every aspects of art, from canvas, drawings, sculptures, embroidery, video, photography, poetry to graphics. More women have joined the force with much bolder expressions on canvas. They have even started exploring socio-political art.
 

	Benitha Perciyal, a woman <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/E-commerce-has-brought-artists-on-a-wider-platform/articleshow/49625076.cms">artist</a> of present times said she is lucky enough that her family supported her.
 

	“But, yes. The society still doesn’t see art as a mainstream career option,” she added.
 

	Spreading more awareness of art and to buy art and to collect art just for art’s sake is what Renu wants the space to experience in the future. 
 

	“There should be more knowledge building, more education and more institutions to support art,” said the art lover.

When we woke up this morning and reached for our phones to make our presence felt on the internet, little did we expect <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword>’s homepage to pay tribute to a man whose birthday we’d forgotten over the birthday of our beloved Prime <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi">Minister Narendra Modi</a> and the homecoming of Ganesha, popularly known as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/GodSaveTheOcean-This-Ganesh-Chaturthi-Mumbai-NGO-makes-idols-that-fish-can-eat/articleshow/48786857.cms">Ganesh Chaturthi</a>. 
 Maqbool Fida Husain, the renowned Indian <keyword id="6448302" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Painter">painter</keyword> would have turned 100 today. 
 
In keeping with his cubist style, Google used Husain’s favourite colours to come up with an abstract geometrical illustration comprising circles and a painted portrait of the late artist holding a brush, at the centre. 
 
The Padma Shri award winner had relocated to London and Dubai after numerous death threats and lawsuits from right-wing Hindu fundamentalists over his depiction of Hindu gods. 
 
At the age of 95, the maestro breathed his last in London on June 29, 2011 where he used to spend his summers while on his self-imposed exile. 
 
The multi-faceted painter was also an accomplished illustrator, photographer and filmmaker. 
 
However, despite his greatness, people of his own country forced him to go on a self-imposed exile and give up Indian citizenship. 
 If that was not enough, a section of people who took to social media to express their astonishment at Google choosing the late artist for its tribute and not <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>., while the rest joined in on the rituals of wishing the famed painter a Happy Birthday. 
 
Soon enough, M. F Husain started trending on Twitter, as well- which brings me to my original point. 
 
Would M.F Husain be the subject of all this fanfare had he not featured on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-5-best-Google-Doodles-of-all-time/articleshow/47338021.cms">Google Doodle</a> today? Would we have gone about our usual day celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi and wishing the leader of the largest democracy in the world, but forgetting to spare more than a minute for one of the greatest painters India has seen? 
 
Before nodding your head to say ‘No, we would not,’ do bear in mind we are the same country who took offense to his painting depicting Hindu gods, labeled him anti-Hindu, mainly due to his religion, harassed him non-stop and protested against his existence in the country he was born in, while burning his posters. 
 
We failed in giving him the treatment he deserved when he was alive and we would have failed in revering him today too, had it not been for Google reminding us about Husain's unapologetic devotion to beauty, people, and the world. 
 
If that’s not enough, there are also some people who want Google to apologise for featuring Husain on their doodle.

but did we?

Husain</keyword>. Just when you open the search engine expecting to see the Doodle on Modi! 

	India is thankful to Google though <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Educate-In-India-Narendra-Modis-new-pet-project/articleshow/47456640.cms">Narendra Modi</a> might not be. Looking beyond the ego-battle, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> should be thankful that this Art Master was born and turned 100 today. Here’s why a man claiming to be the true Indian has much to thank the self-exiled true Indian for. 
	 
	 

	1. Using some of the painter’s favourite colours, notably pastels of red, yellow ochre, blue, mud brown, <keyword id="419433" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="google-doodle">Google Doodle</keyword> was an abstract geometric illustration with MF Husain’s self portrait holding a brush in the middle. MF Hussain was among those rare artists whose prized collections of life works also include an accurate self-portrait. 

	In Modi’s selfies and publicity, the nation is fed with a hazy picture of the man himself. Thanks to this great prodigy, Modi has the most accurate example of self portrait of a true Indian in the whole world, to refer to.
 

	If only Narendra Modi could paint his true self portrait, it would have been marred with red pastels of Gujarat riots and orange shades of the true Hindu that he is.

	 
	 
	 

	2. Husain was self-exiled at the age of 90 after facing more than a decade of lawsuits and abuses for his paintings. It all started with his abstract depictions of Hindu Goddesses and nudity. Though critics state the main reason of his troubled years as a painter was he depicting Hindu mythology in its bare state being a Muslim. This even led to his being treated as a religious bigot.
 

	In his process of ‘saffronisation’ of the nation, Modi can easily put the Gujarat riots case to the background. After all he is true to his religion, unlike Husain, the Indian.

	 
	 
	 

	3. In his ambitious vision <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Modi-to-call-on-Samsung-LG-to-Make-in-India/articleshow/47262269.cms">‘Make in India’</a>, Modi seems to be confused whether to manufacture in India or to make in India. Yes, there is a difference between the two which is debated on. But much to the credits of MF Husain, Modi has the best solution to look at. The artist created a unique language of expression through his paintings which were a combination of Indian visual idioms and contemporary western forms. His paintings were so successful at the international markets that it led to a seal of approval over making art a stock option. 
 

	Modi needs to acknowledge that we need to embrace western talent while working on Indian potential. Calling to foreign investors and manufacturers to manufacture in India or buying Rafale jets from France should be coupled with steps to make the most of the hidden potential in the hearts of Indian land.

	 
	 
	 

	4. <keyword id="127432" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maqbool-Fida-Husain">Maqbool Fida Husain</keyword> was named the ‘Picasso of India’ not for nothing. His unique abstract paintings based on Indian mythology and Goddesses celebrating womanhood made his style stand out among the masses. His paintings were not a disgrace to Indian culture nor did it represent fanaticism, he showed it as it was. It exposed the dilemmas of the nation through pictorial eclecticism. One might remember his famous impression of <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> as Goddess Durga riding a lion during emergency. 

	If only Modi had this courage, instead of calling to people to post pictures of incredible India he would have asked them to post images of the things that is tearing apart its incredibility.
 

	But since Husain was exiled for this very reason, Modi is grateful to have a reason to do elsewise.

	 
	 
	 

	5. Husain’s paintings were banned like the books of <keyword id="25391" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Rushdie">Salman Rushdie</keyword>. So also movies, wearing skirts to school and now meat! Narendra Modi’excuse-it all went against the integrity of the nation and its culture. Hence, after years of being represented to its true form, the nation is happy to pull itself out of the artist’s canvas safely.

(Eds: Adds details) Mumbai, Mar 5 () A Rolls Royce car, paintings of famous artists M F Hussain and Amrita Sher-Gil, designer handbags and other luxury items belonging to fugitive diamond jeweller Nirav Modi garnered over Rs 51 crore in the second auction conducted on Thursday. As many as 40 items went under the hammer on Thursday, which marks the completion of auction of assets seized by the Enforcement Directorate. The auction was conducted by Saffronart on behalf of the deputy director, Enforcement Directorate, and was expected to garner a minimum of Rs 40 crore in proceeds.A collection of 112 prized assets of Modi were put up for live and online auctions from March 3 to 5, which included major artworks by contemporary and modern Indian artists, designer handbags, luxury watches and cars.While the online auction on March 3-4 garnered Rs 2.04 crore against the expected proceeds of Rs 52 lakh, the live auction on Thursday garnered Rs 51.41 crore more.These assets, seized by the ED, were put on auction in an attempt to recover a part of the dues Modi owes to various banks.According to officials from Saffronart, the ED would get Rs 53.45 crore from the proceeds of these two auctions. The lots that went under the hammer included legendary painter MF Hussain's painting of 'Battle of Ganga and Jamuna- Mahabharata 12' which went for a record 12 crore, the highest price received so far for the painter's work. Amrita Sher-Gil's rare 1935 painting 'Boys with Lemons', which was auctioned for the first time, sold for Rs 15.7 crore (USD 2.24 million). V S Gaitonde's tranquil 1972 painting was sold for Rs 9.52 crore while Manjit Bawa's Untitled 1992 sold for Rs 6.16 crore. Fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi's asset sale garner Rs 51 cr for ED

Responding to the BJP allegations on Yes Bank promoter Rana Kapoor's links with the Congress, Surjewala said the government must answer around Rs 2,00,000 crore rise in Yes Bank loan book from Rs 55,633 crore in March 2014 to Rs 2,41,499 crore in March 2019, and not obfuscate the real issue of people's money sinking into a <keyword id="6605010" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bad-bank">bad bank</keyword>. The relation between the BJP and Kapoor "is well-known", Surjewala said and added, why did the Prime Minister address a Yes Bank-sponsored conference on March 6, despite "the RBI moratorium." The Congress alleged the loans given by Yes Bank rose 100 per cent in just two years after demonetisation from Rs 98,210 crore in March 2016 to Rs 2,03,534 crore in March 2018. Also, the BJP government of Haryana deposited over Rs 1,000 crore in Yes Bank just a month ago, knowing that it was sinking, he said and wondered if Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government in Maharashtra also deposited money in the private bank. Yes Bank Crisis: Congress raises question over Rana Kapoor's links with BJP

<ul><li>The Enforcement Directorate is currently investigating <keyword id="1702687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="YES-Bank-founder">Yes Bank founder</keyword> <keyword id="128581" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rana-Kapoor">Rana Kapoor</keyword>.</li><li>They suspect that he's responsible for ₹30,000 crore worth loans at Yes Bank that went bad.</li><li>Here's the full story of everything that the ED's investigation has revealed so far about how Rana Kapoor gave out those loans and pocketed the kickbacks.</li></ul>Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor shunned the family jewellery businesses to break into the tough world of private banking in India. However, his choice of loans, heady risks and illegal practices of lending against kickbacks brought the country’s fourth-largest lender under the lens of investigative agencies. A year after he entered the billionaire club, Kapoor’s world <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/the-fall-of-yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor-from-a-billion-dollars-to-facing-a-4300-crore-investigation/articleshow/74547669.cms">started to crumble</a> when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) asked Kapoor to step down from his position as CEO of Yes Bank by January 2019.  But the bank had lost much more as ₹30,000 crore worth loans went bad, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) held him responsible. After the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/news/yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor-arrested-by-ed-on-charges-of-money-laundering/articleshow/74534138.cms">ED arrested him</a>, it has identified 78 shell corporations that are suspected of receiving kickbacks in exchange for loans that no other bank would touch. According to the investigation, as his depositors lost money, he became richer by ₹5,000 crore only in kickbacks. With funds routed through shell companies and benami accounts, Kapoor <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/a-reported-list-of-rana-kapoors-assets-include-a-30-million-investment-in-uk-a-yacht-and-five-properties-in-delhi/articleshow/74594273.cms">bought hotels in New York</a> and London, bungalows in Delhi, flats in Mumbai and expensive paintings. The ED's investigation also revealed that, Kapoor who played fast and hard with rules, also failed to insulate his family from harm. His wife Bindu and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/news/rana-kapoors-daughters-who-said-no-to-banking-are-now-in-the-dock-with-yes-bank-crisis/articleshow/74549729.cms">three daughters</a> — Roshini, Radha and Rakhee — are at the helm of most of these shell companies, and CBI has its claws around them too. The case of money laundering The saga of crony capitalism started to come to light last week when Kapoor was booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on March 6 to look into the connection between him and Yes Bank’s bad loans.

The following day, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/ed-continues-questioning-yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor/articleshow/74525680.cms">officials took Kapoor</a> back to ED’s Ballard Pier office in Mumbai. During the course of the interrogation, the agency expanded its probe to include his daughters. They allegedly own multiple companies that received kickbacks from different corporates who received loans from Yes Bank.

 The ₹600 crore kickback from DHFL One of the companies suspected by the ED of giving kickbacks to Kapoor’s companies is DHFL — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/news/yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor-arrested-by-ed-on-charges-of-money-laundering/articleshow/74534138.cms">accused of misappropriating funds</a> worth ₹25,000 crore, which ultimately led to its downfall. Yes Bank had doled out a loan of ₹3,750 crore directly to DHFL and another loan worth ₹750 crore to RKW Developers, a subsidiary of DHFL. However, when the real estate company defaulted on its loan, Kapoor did not initiate any action.

 The ED now suspects that his restraint was a result of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/ed-questions-yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor-for-second-day-expands-raids/articleshow/74530525.cms">kickbacks to the tune of ₹600 crore</a> to Doit Urban Ventures — a dummy corporation owned by Kapoor and two of his daughters. Nearly 80 shell companies set up to receive bribes and buy bungalows Two days into the interrogation Kapoor was arrested for not cooperating with the authorities. Meanwhile, 10 teams of the CBI were involved in its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/yes-bank-scam-cbi-carries-out-searches-at-7-locations-in-mumbai-loc-issued/articleshow/74554915.cms">search operations</a> spread across the south Mumbai neighbourhood. The ED found that Rana Kapoor and his family had more than <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/yes-bank-crisis-probe-agency-says-rana-kapoor-along-with-his-family-owned-78-shell-companies-2194031">78 shell companies </a>set up to receive bribes and invest in properties under the radar. All of these companies were either directly under Kapoor’s control or under the control of his wife and daughters. His wife, Bindu, was the director of at least 42 companies.

 The companies allegedly invested in properties with a net worth of over ₹2,000 crore. An official told PTI that the current market value of those properties could be <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/yes-bank-crisis-probe-agency-says-rana-kapoor-along-with-his-family-owned-78-shell-companies-2194031">well above ₹5,000 crore.</a> His shady overseas properties include two luxury hotels — one in New York worth over $20 million and one in London worth nearly £30 million — two residential apartments in London valued at £15 million apiece, and a yacht. In India, Kapoor owns six bungalows in Delhi’s upscale neighbourhoods, including Jor Bagh, Hauz Khas and Kautilya Marg. Two were bought by a company called Bliss Adobe, which had Bindu as its director. The property on Amrita Shergil Marg was auctioned off by Avantha Realty when Bliss Abode picked it off the market. Coincidentally, Yes Bank’s exposure to Avantha Realty was ₹500 crore. The other house on Sardar Patel Marg was bought by the Kapoor’s shell corporation Bliss Home. ED’s investigation noted that the house was formerly owned by Vijay Mallya. ED also found that Kapoor owns six flats and a parcel of land in Mumbai and its suburbs. Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra and the painting by MF Hussain During the search of his Mumbai residence, the ED seized nearly 50 pieces of art from his home. One of the paintings — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/india/news/congress-raises-question-over-rana-kapoors-links-with-bjp/articleshow/74544228.cms">a portrait of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi by MF Hussain</a> — belonged to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Congress party says that the deal between Vadra and Kapoor was a transparent transaction of ₹2 crore. The payment was made through cheque and was reflected in income tax returns. However, the ED is still looking into whether the painting was Vadra’s to sell or belonged to the All India Congress Committee (AICC). It’s also looking into whether the provenance certificate — which authenticates the artwork — was signed by Vadra and under what circumstances.
