After Singapore and Hong Kong, Nepal has also banned the sale and import of certain spice-mix products manufactured by Indian brands over alleged quality concerns. Four spice-mix products by <keyword id="21333385" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MDH" source="keywords">MDH</keyword> and <keyword id="19997009" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Everest" source="keywords">Everest</keyword> were banned in the Himalayan nation from Friday due to suspected ethylene oxide or EtO contamination, according to the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control here. Under this, Madras Curry Powder, Sambhar Mixed Masala Powder; Mixed Masala Curry Powder of MDH and Fish Curry Masala of Everest have been banned in Nepal. "As residue contents of ethylene oxide are found to be exceeding the prescribed limit in these four products, the import and sale of these products are banned within the country as per Article 19 of the Food Regulation 2027 B.S.," the department said in a notice issued on Friday. "Our serious attention has been drawn towards media reports about the sale of these sub-standard products in the market, and they are harmful for consumption," it said. The food quality control watchdog has also urged importers and traders to recall these products from the market. Last month, Singapore and Hong Kong halted sales of some spices produced by MDH and Everest over suspected elevated levels of ETO linked with some cancers. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has since initiated steps to examine the quality of powdered spices from various brands in the country. On Friday, the Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders (FISS) said India's spice export may decline nearly 40 per cent in FY25 if the issue of <keyword id="21673555" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ethylene-oxide-contamination" source="keywords">ethylene oxide contamination</keyword> in spices meant for exports is not addressed at the earliest. Fondly called ‘Dadaji’ or ‘Mahashayji,’ Gulati dropped out of fifth grade when he was in Pakistan and joined his father, Chuni Lal’s spice business. Today, that business has become a Rs 1500 crore empire which runs the masala company, about 20 schools and a hospital. Gulati was born in 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. After the partition in 1947, he moved to India and stayed in a refugee camp. To make ends meet, he opened a store in Delhi’s Ajmal Khan Road, Karol Bagh and officially established MDH in 1959. He put his heart and soul into his business that he started in remembrance of his father. From there, he built the entire group that eventually became one of the country’s leading spices manufacturers expanding to 15 factories. Gulati was a dedicated entrepreneur who did not take an off even on Sundays. He would make daily rounds of factories, markets and meet dealers to supervise and make sure everything was running smoothly. He soon took our Indian spices to an international level by exporting to various parts of the world, including the UK, Europe, UAE, Canda, etc. Today, MDH Masala exports its products to more than 100 countries. Gulati’s son manages the overall operations now and his six daughters handle distribution region wise. According to The Economic Times, in 2017, Gulati was the highest paid entrepreneur at the age of 94 and took home more Rs 21 crore as salary. It is said that it was his motivation to work and quality of products offered at an affordable price that made him the king of spices. In fact, he was also a king of hearts as 90% of his salary went to charity. In 2019, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in the country, in 2019. Gulati also became his company’s biggest brand ambassador and was visually familiar to a vast swathe of the population. And a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Health said it "did not receive communications from Operation Warp Speed about ICE detainees."The Department of Homeland Security, which previously declined to comment on Insider's investigation, confirmed to Insider that it had communicated with Operation Warp Speed about COVID-19 vaccines for detained immigrants, but declined to elaborate on the record.The White House also did not respond to a request for comment. Last month, White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced the Biden administration would <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-coronavirus-vaccine-plan-operation-warp-speed-2021-1">restructure</a> Operation Warp Speed, <a href="https://twitter.com/jrpsaki/status/1350121790148902912">citing</a> the "urgent need to address failures of the Trump team approach to vaccine distribution."<h2>Some states suggested that without federal guidance, they are not taking responsibility for vaccinating ICE detainees.</h2>Insider previously contacted health departments in all 40 states where ICE detention facilities are located. None said ICE had contacted them about COVID-19 vaccination plans for detained immigrants. Nineteen state and five local health departments explicitly said they had not been contacted by the agency at all. Insider's records requests for communications between ICE and state health officials turned up no evidence of coordination. Bennett, the ICE spokesperson, told Insider that ICE is committed to the health and welfare of those in its custody. "COVID-19 vaccines for ICE detainees are being allocated by local and state health departments, and were incorporated into the total COVID-19 vaccine amount distributed by the federal government to each state," she said in the agency's revised statement.The new statement suggests that states with more ICE detainees received more vaccines. But as Insider reported in its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vaccine-rollout-neglects-ice-detainees-2021-2">investigation</a>, many states seemed unaware that their federal allocations included doses meant for detainees.Health departments in New York, Maryland, New Mexico, and Texas directed Insider's questions to ICE, suggesting they were not taking responsibility for vaccinating immigrants in ICE custody. The Florida Department of Health said that because ICE is a federal program, it expected vaccines to come from the federal allocation.Bennett confirmed to Insider that DHS never received a direct allocation of vaccines for detainees in its custody. “Tired from work, braving traffic jams to get to a jam-packed grocery store? Use our app, select the groceries you want from your nearest stores and get them delivered at your doorstep in no time. Best quality guaranteed at the cheapest rate!” Now, anyone in this world would fall for that idea. It is a great concept we agree, but not so great when the grocery apps fail to fulfill the tall promises they make. What seems like a heavenly service more often ends up becoming a nightmare when wrong products are delivered, or it takes an eternity for orders to reach you. Oblivious to how it is detrimental to their image in the market, our desi <keyword id="3162812" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="grocery-delivery-apps">grocery delivery apps</keyword> unfortunately are losing a great concept to poor customer service, something that forms the foundation of this business. 
 
The irony is, for customers, it ends up complicating their lives instead of simplifying it! Here’s how: 
 Vikram Sanghvi, an employee with a Gurgaon-based MNC, who used <keyword id="964794" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BigBasket">Bigbasket</keyword> service found grave faults with the app recently: “I received a phone call at the delivery time saying that my order is out of stock and I will be sent an alternate option. I found out that the delivered product was of higher price compared to the one I wanted. Now, is it my fault that you have run out of stock. If you have, the app should not reflect such products so that one does not order it, but why should I compromise and pay a higher price for something I don't want,” he says. 
 Unlike Vikram,Vijaya Singh, a homemaker based in Gurgaon, who thought of trying out <keyword id="2466939" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Grofers">Grofers</keyword> app was delivered an alternative without informing her: “I ordered MDH masala packets. When I received the order, they sent me Catch masala packets instead. It makes me feel that they want to promote one brand over the other.” She also pointed that while ordering multiple products from various sections of Grofers – fruits and veggies, cosmetics, bakery – different delivery boys come at different time which she finds quite inconvenient. "One order and you have the door bell ringing 3 times in 15 minutes. I personally don't like this way of delivery," she says. 
 
Akash and Mandeep, both running their start-ups in South Delhi, have a bigger plight. Only half of the ordered items were delivered to them by Grofers. While Akash opted for the cash on delivery option and did not have to pay for all that he had ordered on the app, a furious Mandeep says “It has been over 45 days and still they haven't returned my money close to Rs 520. There is no money return policy, it’s shameful. You make the mistake and customer pays the price for it. Who runs a business like this.” 
 
For Janki, a mother and employee working at an MNC in Gurgaon, it was worse because the products were not delivered until the next day and what she was in store for is quite annoying: “I had ordered pampers for my kid from ZopNow. First, they postponed the order for another day and then they cancelled my order without informing me. When I called them for my money that I paid online, they said supervisor will call back but nobody reached out to me. Pathetic customer service,” she says. 
 We have all heard of late deliveries, but 6 days!! “We generally shop online and decided to give Godrej <keyword id="938654" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Natures-Basket">Nature's basket</keyword> online website a chance. It was the biggest mistake ever. We were told our order will be delivered in 48 hours, however even after 6 days we haven't received the order, neither have we received any update. The service is obviously very unprofessional and cannot be trusted, which we did not expect from a Godrej,” he says. 
 
Another young working lady, Shikha Singh, swears she won’t use the apps ever as it gave her the most embarrassing moment ever: “I ordered some grocery through Bigbasket app and I needed it urgently because some guests including my boss were coming over. The order was placed successfully and their call center confirmed the same to me. Not only were they late, but I got a call two hours later only to hear from the team that the items were out of stock and couldn’t be delivered. I had to order food from the restaurant for them. It was embarrassing as I had invited them to a home-made litti-chokha treat.” 
 
Not everyone has been that unlucky though. A couple of them we spoke to said that they received the right orders, except that it took them an eternity to get them at their doorstep. “The orders never seem to reach you before 2-3 hours, even the smallest orders take time. What if you have guests over? One can bring things from the market and finish cooking by the time they deliver,” says Saba Haider, a journalist working with a reputed media house in Noida, who uses Grofers for her household needs. 
 
There are even several users complaining of price disparity. They can’t stop short of calling it fraudulent practices. “I ordered Tropicana 100% orange juice from Nature's Hub. MRP for this product is Rs 120, but on the site it was displayed as Rs 99. Obviously, I was happy at the discount being offered and ordered 5 of them for Cash on Delivery. When the product came, they charged me Rs 120 (original MRP) for the product mentioning this was incorrectly priced on the site. Since I was not at home at that moment and my wife wasn't aware of it, she paid and opened the pack. Now this is totally unacceptable and misleading,” said Ashish Naik, a businessman based out of Mumbai. 
 
Dear concerned companies, we hope you are listening to them. Our humble advice – Please, treat your customers like god. If you don’t, you might fall out of the race even before you picked up. Don’t forget, you are because they are.
