<br /> UB Group chairman and liquor baron <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword> has resigned from the board of directors of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers (<keyword id="180811" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="MCF">MCF</keyword>). Neither Mallya nor MCF gave any reason for this move.<br />

“Mallya, a director on the board of directors of the company, has resigned with immediate effect,” MCF said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).<br />
<br /> As per media reports, Mallya was under pressure to resign, owing to the ‘wilful defaulter’ tag levelled against him by <keyword id="113653" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="United-Bank-of-India">United Bank of India</keyword> (UBI). The bank had declared him as ‘wilful defaulter’ in September in a matter related to a debt of Rs 6500 crore. However, the Calcutta High Court had later stayed the bank’s decision.<br />

Now, the latest buzz is that Saroj Poddar of Adventz Group may join the board of MCF.<br />
<br />
Following the news of his resignation, MCF’s shares increased by 15% during morning trade today.<br />

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11896879" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oil" source="Orion">Oil</keyword> steadied on Friday after topping $100 a barrel as traders questioned the impact of Western sanctions on Russia.</li><li>US President Joe Biden hasn't yet placed penalties on Russia's crucial energy exports.</li></ul><p><keyword id="11894590" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oil-prices" source="Orion">Oil prices</keyword> steadied Friday after Russia's energy exports escaped the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/see-biden-white-house-full-list-sanctions-against-russia-ukraine-2022-2">White House's latest round of sanctions</a>, leaving traders questioning the impact of Western penalties on the market.</p><p>Russia is the third-largest oil producer in the world, and is responsible for about 12% of global production.</p><p><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/oil-price?type=brent">Brent crude futures</a> rose 1.1% to settle at $96.48 a barrel, after hitting a fresh seven-year high of $105 a barrel. <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/oil-price?type=wti">West Texas Intermediate</a> rose 0.7% to $93.52 a barrel, after earlier hitting $100.54 a barrel.</p><p>Russia is also the largest provider of <keyword id="6354703" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="natural-gas" source="Orion">natural gas</keyword> to Europe, so sanctions mean higher gas prices. European <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/natural-gas-price">natural gas</a> rose almost 70% to over $45 per thousand cubic feet (MCF) on Thursday, which is about ten times the <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/natural-gas-price">price in the US</a> at around $4.50 MCF, according to broker ICAP.</p><p>Higher oil prices are expected to feed into inflation, which will only heighten the need for higher interest rates. </p><p>Oil prices in the US and globally were already trading at high ranges in recent months, so President Joe Biden's administration had been asking for more oil supply to cool price pressures. But Russia and Saudi Arabia had <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/arab-oil-producers-say-opec-should-stick-current-output-agreement-2022-02-20/">rejected Biden's calls to pump more</a>, citing persistent uncertainty.</p><p>While that leaves the US in an awkward position, Biden said Thursday he was working on a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-russia-war-biden-economy-sanctions-inflation-2022-2">release of additional oil</a> from strategic <keyword id="12688402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="crude" source="Orion">crude</keyword> reserves. There is also hope that a <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/oil-pulls-back-view-western-sanctions-russia-wont-choke-supply-2022-02-23/">nuclear deal between the US and Iran</a> will take some of the heat out of the market, if it results in an increase in Iranian crude shipments.</p><p>Biden has not yet <a href="https://www.eenews.net/articles/biden-sanctions-will-allow-energy-payments-to-continue/">placed sanctions on energy</a> or Russian access to the <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/eu-unlikely-cut-russia-off-swift-now-sources-say-2022-02-24/">SWIFT global payment system</a>, which seems to indicate the market is not discounting the likelihood of deeper conflict.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">"For oil, we are waiting to see if the US releases more barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and we may also see Iranian exports ramp up if an Iranian deal gets done," Gary Stromberg, US high yield energy credit analyst at PGIM Fixed Income, said.</p><p style="font-weight: 400;">"It is clear to me a geopolitical risk premium of at least $10/bbl will provide support over the near term, however, oil above $100/bbl will impact demand, so we are watching for demand destruction and its impact on longer-term oil prices."</p><p>Disruption of Russian exports to Europe and the US would likely see Brent average $115 a barrel in the second quarter this year, JPMorgan strategists said Wednesday. Oil keeps $100 a barrel in focus after Russia's energy exports escape Joe Biden's sanctions

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Derek Chauvin is being held at the MCF-Oak Park Heights Administrative Control Unit. </li><li>The solitary confinement unit holds prisoners for 23 hours a day.</li><li>There are 280 convicted murderers at the facility, according to Department of Corrections data. </li></ul><p>Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who killed <keyword id="9295731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="george-floyd">George Floyd</keyword>, is being held at the maximum security Minnesota Correctional Facility at Oak Park Heights, where <a href="https://www.insider.com/derek-chauvin-held-separate-from-general-prison-population-after-conviction-2021-4">Insider previously reported</a> he is living apart from the general population of the prison in the Administrative Control Unit.</p><p>The prison is about a 40 minute drive from the Minneapolis corner were Floyd died and is the most secure facility in the state.</p><p>Chauvin, who has not yet been sentenced, will spend 23 hours a day in solitary confinement and be allowed one hour to leave his cell to exercise,  <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/21/us/derek-chauvin-solitary-confinement.html">the New York Times learned.</a></p><p>A jury on Tuesday <a href="https://www.insider.com/derek-chauvin-verdict-george-floyd-death-2021-4">convicted the 45-year-old of second-degree murder</a>, third-degree murder, and manslaughter. Floyd died after Chauvin kneeled on his body for more than nine minutes while he was handcuffed on the ground.</p><p>Chauvin was remanded into custody immediately after the verdict was announced.</p><p>The Administrative Control Unit often is used for disciplinary reasons, but also when keeping a prisoner in general population could pose a particular safety concern, according to the Minnesota <a href="https://mn.gov/doc/facilities/oak-park-heights/administrative-control-unit/">Department of Corrections.</a></p><p>Corrections staff must visit the cells of each person in the unit at least once every 30 minutes. </p><div type="image" title="MCF-Oak Park Heights, Chauvin" height="512" width="784" msid="82186994" hostid="261"></div><h2>Chauvin is among 280 murderers at the facility</h2><p>The Minnesota Department of Corrections released an inmate profile on Wednesday providing statistics about the offenders being held at MCF-Oak Park Heights. There are 378 people committed to the facility, and Chauvin is among 280 convicted murderers there, <a href="https://coms.doc.state.mn.us/tourreport/02FacilityInmateProfile.pdf">according to the data.</a></p><p>All inmates currently being held in the facility are over the age of 18, with the average age being 39. About 45% of inmates there are Black and 39% are white. </p><p>The average sentence for all inmates is 11.8 years, with those convicted of homicide serving an average of 11.3 years, according to the data. </p><p>A total of 309 prisoners, or 80%, have at least a GED or high school diploma. </p><div type="image" title="MCF Oak Park Heights, Chauvin" height="878" width="1198" msid="82186995" hostid="261"></div><h2>He could spend up to 360 days in solitary</h2><p>In 2019, Minnesota increased the maximum period of time that inmates can spend in solitary confinement from 90 days to 360 days after two correctional officers were killed, <a href="https://www.twincities.com/2019/08/10/minnesota-prisons-lengthen-solitary-stays-inmates-sent-to-the-hole-more-than-ever-last-year/">Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported at the time.</a></p><p>Prisoners held in solitary are confined to a 8 ½-by-11-foot cell with a bed, concrete bench, shower and toilet, the <a href="https://stage-www.startribune.com/excessive-solitary-confinement-scars-minnesota-prison-inmates/396197801/">Minneapolis Star Tribune previously reported.</a><strong> </strong>There is a camera mounted on the ceiling, and the toilet and light is controlled by someone outside of the cell.</p>

The discounts will take effect on April 1. </p><p>Sellers use MFS to store and ship non-Amazon products, like those sold on their own websites or other marketplaces - similar to how they use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) for products sold on Amazon's own marketplace. </p><p>"We are pleased to announce that we are lowering Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) fees," Amazon said in the email, obtained by Business Insider.</p><p>The price cut comes at a time when competition in the third-party logistics space is intensifying. Big players like UPS, FedEx, and Shopify have launched their own fulfillment services in recent years, while startups like Deliverr and Flexe are also growing their share. Walmart, which introduced its own fulfillment service last week, <a href="https://sellerhelp.walmart.com/seller/s/guide?article=000009214">said</a> it plans to start fulfilling non-Walmart products in the future too.</p><p>The change also reflects the efficiency Amazon has achieved with its fulfillment service. Amazon invested roughly $3 billion in improving its logistics network last year, shortening its standard delivery time to one-day. For FBA, Amazon raised fees <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-raising-fulfillment-fee-by-3-percent-despite-record-spending-2019-12">by just 3% this year</a>, a relatively small increase compared to competitors. <p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li><strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/clive-palmer">Australian billionaire and political donor Clive Palmer</a> is threatening a defamation lawsuit against the YouTube channel Friendly Jordies and its main star, Jordan Shanks.</strong></li><li><strong>The letter claims Shanks defamed Palmer by calling him, "Fatty McF---head" and "dense Humpty Dumpty."</strong></li><li><strong>A letter from Palmer's lawyer demands $500,000 in damages, legal costs, and that Shanks "make no further publication of and concerning" Palmer within 28 days.</strong></li><li><strong>If those conditions aren't met, the letter says a defamation lawsuit will commence.</strong></li><li><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.</a></strong></li></ul><p>Australian billionaire, political donor, and political party leader <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/clive-palmer">Clive Palmer</a> is threatening to sue an Australian YouTuber over what he says are defamatory statements.</p><p>In statements made by YouTube creator Jordan Shanks on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2-i3KuYoODXsM99Z3-Gm0A">the channel Friendly Jordies</a>, Shanks calls Palmer, "Fatty McF---head" and a "dense Humpty Dumpty."</p><p>Those statements, among others, are what Palmer says are "defamatory" statements.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>In a letter sent by Australian law firm Alexander Law, Palmer demands an "offer to make amends" - a legal term in defamation cases that applies to a set of demands for settling a defamation suit.</p><p>In the case of Palmer's threat against Shanks, the demands are:</p><ol><li>$500,000, plus legal fees.</li><li>That Shanks "make no further publication of and concerning" Clive Palmer.</li></ol><p>If Shanks doesn't comply within 28 days, the letter says, Palmer's lawyers will commence with a defamation lawsuit.</p><p>Based on the video Shanks released about the letter from Palmer's lawyers, it doesn't sound like the firm will have to wait the 28 days. "I'm not gonna capitulate to you, you fat toad," Shanks says in the video. "In short, see you in court tub tub."</p><p>In the video, released on Sunday, Shanks goes through the letter from Palmer's lawyers and breaks down why he's willing to fight the billionaire.</p><p>He even went as far as to release themed shirts based on the legal threat:</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>It is unclear if Palmer will proceed with the lawsuit, and Alexander Law didn't respond to a request for comment as of publishing.</p><p>Either way, it doesn't sound like Shanks is too worried about potentially losing the case.</p><p>"In Clive's attempt to pervert the law, he made one tiny miscalculation," Shanks says in the video released on Sunday, "I'm a millennial. An Australian billionaire and politician is demanding $500,000 from a YouTube creator and threatening to sue for calling him a 'dense Humpty Dumpty'

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>LONDON - Monday's newspaper front pages lead on the claim that the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> has secured a series of exemptions from US President Donald Trump's travel ban on citizens from seven Muslim countries.<p>"Boris keeps US open to Britons" is the take of Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's former employer,&#xa0;the <a href="https://twitter.com/hendopolis/status/825822649519575040">Daily Telegraph</a>.</p><p>Yet it's unclear what, if any, concessions the Foreign Secretary has actually secured. What Johnson <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/presidential-executive-order-on-inbound-migration-to-us">refers</a> to as a new&#xa0;US' "clarification" on the rights of British citizens with dual citizenship,&#xa0;is in reality a complete reversal.</p><p>Earlier statements by the US State Department made it clear that all arrivals, including those with dual nationality, from one of the seven banned countries, would be barred entry.&#xa0;</p><p>The reversal&#xa0;is also not specific to Britain. Although&#xa0;little noticed by the British press, Canadian prime minister <span>Justin Trudeau&#xa0;</span>announced the very same "clarification" some 15 hours prior to Johnson's statement. And this reversal was secured without Trudeau having to hold hands, either metaphorically or literally, with the US president.</p><p>So while supporters of the UK government's close relationship with the Trump administration will&#xa0;claim today's statement as a vindication of their position, there&#xa0;is little evidence that&#xa0;May's eleventh hour&#xa0;intervention&#xa0;had any real effect. Not least because it comes just&#xa0;one&#xa0;day after May stated that&#xa0;"immigration policy in the United States is a matter for the Government of the United States."</p><p>While it's obviously welcome that most UK citizens will no longer be affected by the ban, it does not make the ban any less abhorrent.</p><p><span>Banning people entry on the basis of their nationality or religion is&#xa0;</span><span>no less despicable,&#xa0;</span><span>whether British people are exempt from it or not. The fact that one&#xa0;famous British athlete <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/38788910">will now be allowed into the US</a>&#xa0;does not change the fact that thousands of Syrians fleeing for their lives will not.&#xa0;</span>As London mayor Sadiq Khan <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/may/10/sadiq-khan-i-dont-want-ignorant-donald-trump-to-make-me-an-exception">said last year</a> when Trump offered him&#xa0;an exemption&#xa0;from&#xa0;the ban: "This isn't just about me - it's about my friends, my family and everyone who comes from a background similar to mine, anywhere in the world."</p><p>So far a million people have signed a <a href="https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928">petition</a> calling for May to cancel Trump's state visit to the UK and tonight thousands of British people will take part in a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/359732827741189/">protest</a> against him&#xa0;outside Downing Street. Similar protests are already taking place&#xa0;right across the US as American people&#xa0;make it clear that the ban will not stand.</p><p>As the nature of Trump's administration becomes clear it is already being met by a growing global protest movement. Although still not fully-formed, this movement&#xa0;is already forcing&#xa0;the&#xa0;UK government to take a more sceptical and critical approach towards the new US&#xa0;president.&#xa0;</p><p>But ultimately, history suggests it will be this mobilisation of people, rather than any late night&#xa0;phone calls from Boris Johnson, that has the power to change the direction Trump now takes.</p><p class="tagline">This is an opinion column. Hyperspectral imaging allows the satellites to identify objects from outer space.<br /><br />With the launch, S.
