The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has attributed the significant <keyword id="20029550" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rise" source="keywords">rise</keyword> in <keyword id="20233512" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dengue-cases" source="keywords">dengue cases</keyword> in the city this year to an increase in the number of <keyword id="22375552" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="testing-centres" source="keywords">testing centres</keyword>, which has grown from 36 to 900 compared to last year, according to an official report. As of July 6, Delhi recorded over 256 dengue cases, which is nearly double of the 136 cases recorded in the corresponding period in 2023 and the highest since 2020, according to the report's data. In previous years, the number of dengue cases stood at 153 in 2022, 38 in 2021, and 22 in 2020. The highest number of dengue cases were recorded in the Najafgarh Zone, the report said. No deaths due to the vector-borne disease have been reported so far this year. Last year, 19 deaths occurred due to dengue, the second-highest since 2020. "The rise in the number of cases this year is because more testing centres have started collecting samples and reporting the dengue cases to the civic body. Until last year, there were about 36 testing centres. Now, this number has increased to 900 because of which the numbers appear to be inflated," a senior civic body official said. The peak season for dengue is yet to arrive in Delhi and the situation will call for urgent attention when the monsoon advances, providing a suitable atmosphere for <keyword id="21283114" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mosquito-breeding" source="keywords">mosquito breeding</keyword> to increase significantly, the official said. Usually, it takes about 10-15 days for a larva to become an adult mosquito that spreads dengue. The MCD is taking various measures to curb breeding at the source, another official said. According to the report, in areas under the jurisdiction of other agencies like New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Delhi Cantt and Railways, around 10 dengue cases were reported as of July 6. The report also shows data on other vector-borne diseases. The number of malaria cases reported until the end of last week stood at 90, while chikungunya cases were logged at 22. The MCD conducted over 1.8 crore house visits to check for domestic mosquito breeding and found breeding in over 43,000 houses, the report said. Rise in dengue cases due to more testing centres in city: MCD

<keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword> has registered a huge spurt in dengue cases, with over 100 people being diagnosed with the infection in the last one week, taking the tally of the vector-borne disease in the city to nearly 400 so far this year. According to a report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (<keyword id="55093" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mcd" source="Orion">MCD</keyword>) on Monday, 152 cases have been reported in this month alone till September 17. The city had recorded 295 dengue cases till September 9. In the last one week, 101 fresh cases have been reported. Out of the 396 total cases recorded till September 17 this year, 75 were reported in August. It is also the highest number of dengue cases logged during the January 1-September 17 period, since 2017, when the corresponding figure was 1,465. No death has been reported so far this year due to the disease. Ninety-two cases of malaria and 17 case of chikungunya have also been reported this year in Delhi till September 17, the report said. A senior MCD official had earlier said the rising cases of dengue is a "matter of concern for us" and "we are working on measures to combat it". Cases of vector-borne diseases are usually reported between July and November, sometimes stretching till mid-December. Civic officials said dengue cases were recorded earlier than usual this year due to weather conditions congenial for mosquito breeding. Last year, 9,613 dengue cases were recorded in the national capital, the highest since 2015, along with 23 deaths -- the maximum since 2016. According to the MCD report, the city recorded 23 dengue cases in January, 16 in February, 22 in March, 20 in April, 30 in May, 32 in June and 26 in July. In 2018, Delhi had reported 343 dengue cases during the January 1-September 17 period, according to the report. The figures in 2019, 2020 and 2021 were -- 217, 172 and 211, respectively. Amid the spike in cases of dengue in Delhi, mosquito breeding was found at public places and government offices, including a police academy and a metro station, during an anti-dengue drive following which legal measures were taken by the civic authorities. "This year, MCD has issued 82,490 legal notices and 28,846 challans so far against defaulters," the civic body had said in a statement on September 16. Intensifying its ongoing drive for prevention and control of vector-borne diseases, the MCD has carried out a "massive drive to detect mosquito-breeding in the premises of government offices, construction sites, schools, universities, educational institutes, metro parking lots and metro stations". During the drive, breeding of mosquito larvae was found on their premises and the "department issued 42 challans and 18 notices", it said. Legal measures were taken against defaulters for mosquito-genic condition or breeding of larvae found on premises of Delhi Jal Board plant offices, Keshopur and Nangloi; DDA horiticulture unit, Janakpuri; Kukeja Hospital, <keyword id="6366598" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajouri-garden" source="Orion">Rajouri Garden</keyword>, NITRD TB Hospital, Dwarka; Akash Institute IIT-JEE &amp; Medical, Dwarka; police stations at Paschim Vihar West and Seelampur; DJB Yamuna Vihar; Government Senior Secondary School, Brahampuri; PWD Office Gokulpuri; Delhi Police Academy, Sonia Vihar; BSES Kamla Market; metro station at Peeragarhi; and PWD Outer Ring Road, Peeragarhi, the statement said. Ten deaths each were reported due to dengue in 2016 and 2017, four in 2018 and two in 2019. According to official data, 4,431 dengue cases were recorded in Delhi in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019 and 1,072 in 2020. In 2015, the city had witnessed a massive dengue outbreak, with the number of cases crossing 10,600 in October. It was Delhi's worst dengue outbreak since 1996. 101 fresh cases of dengue in Delhi, tally rises to 396

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) With civic elections due early next year, the three municipal corporations of Delhi are set to present the budget ahead of schedule. The north, south and east corporations of the city will present the budget in the last week of November, officials said. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) budget is slated to be tabled on November 25, sources said. Such a decision seems to have been taken as no new announcements can be made after the moral code of conduct kicks in, they said. Generally, a civic body makes a slew of announcements in its budget. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has also decided to present its budget later this month, officials said. According to SDMC officials, the budget will be presented by Municipal Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti on November 23 instead of in December. A senior SDMC official said the budget presentation procedure in civic bodies is slightly different from the one in state assemblies, adding that finance department in approval with the commissioner prepares budget proposals and that is presented by the commissioner. He said the budget is then put for discussion among elected representatives in various committees of the civic body. Later leader of the House, leader of the opposition and mayor of the civic body present their views on the budget and also have the power to make amends in proposals. "Generally, the budget is tabled by the commissioner in the first week of December and gets final approval by second week of February. This entire process takes about two months. As the elections are due early next year, model code of conduct may come in place by February, hence we have decided to wrap up the process by January-end," the official said. Senior leaders of the three BJP-led municipal corporations on Thursday had claimed that over 2,000 COVID-19 deaths have taken place in Delhi, while the official tally stood at 1,085 as reported on Thursday. "If that is their claim, then let them send us the details, like age, medical history, test reports. Every death count must have corresponding documents to back the death, otherwise they are just figures," Jain told reporters. It also happens that we observe cases wherein the patient was cremated under the COVID-19 protocol, but their reports show negative later on when obtained from the hospitals, he said. On a question on Delhi High Court's remarks on Thursday that the national capital was heading towards becoming the "corona capital" of the country, Jain said the coronavirus situation in Delhi needs to be seen in context. It is the pandemic of the century, after the 1918 Spanish Flu, he said. "To say, that cases are more here than there... Yes, in some places, it is far ahead of others, in some it is behind others," he said. "Countries which saw the outbreak first, now cases have started to slow down there. It is spreading very fast. It is of the same family as the Spanish Flu virus. The most dangerous thing about novel coronavirus is that it spreads very fast," Jain said in response to a question on the high court's remarks. The national capital is fast heading towards becoming the "corona capital" of the country, observed the Delhi High Court while expressing concern over the spike in COVID-19 cases and directed that all private hospitals equipped with labs to test for coronavirus and having ICMR sanction be permitted to conduct the test. Delhi recorded 2,137 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest single-day spike here, taking the COVID-19 tally in the city to over 36,000-mark, and the death toll due to the disease climbed to 1214, authorities said. For the last one or two months, the cases of COVID-19 are doubling after every two weeks, he said. The Delhi government on Friday said it accepts the observations of the Supreme Court with "absolute sincerity" and if any gap is brought to its notice, the adminstration will work on it "immediately". Meanwhile, sources said, a team from Delhi secretariat visited LNJP Hospital and the morgue at the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC). This came a day after a private channel aired a video purportedly showing a body lying in a ward at the LNJP Hospital, a dedicated COVID-19 facility. Sources also said, action has been taken against two employees in this connection. However, there was no official confirmation from the hospital authorities on these developments. Jain in response to a question, had told reporters on Thursday, the video did not show the "true picture of the hospital" and "breaks the morale" of healthcare workers. On the allegation that MCD hospitals are not being used by the Delhi government, the health minister on Friday said that these hospitals are not to be used by the Delhi government. "They have to treat the patients of COVID-19 themselves. All the central government hospitals have done so. The MCD have their own hospitals, and they can treat COVID-19 patients there. We are not taking over their hospitals. Just as the Centre, municipal corporations can start the treatment of COVID-19 patients if they have hospitals," he said. "Their hospitals have a lot of ICU beds. There are around 13,000 beds in the central government hospitals, we would like to request the Centre to use those beds for COVID-19 treatment," Jain added. Delhi recorded 1,877 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, the highest single-day spike here pushing the COVID-19 tally in the city to over 34,000-mark, and the death toll due to the disease mounted to 1,085, authorities said. Senior civic leaders late May had also claimed that there was a "massive discrepancy" between the COVID-19 death toll as recorded from cremation and burial sites here, and the number of coronavirus fatalities reported by the Delhi government. The COVID-19 death toll, according to official bulletin released by the Delhi heath department, stood at 194 on May 21, while the tally from MCD figures was nearly 600 till that date, NDMC's Prakash had earlier said. The NDMC panel chief said, despite paucity of funds, the civic bodies are fighting the COVID battle. "Our workers are carrying sanitation, collecting biomedical waste, doing sanitation of homes of people who are under home quarantine, but the Delhi government says we are not cooperating. The move is an admission that traditional TV budgets are under direct attack from online sources. Previously, the ad business's official line was online video would grow alongside traditional TV. Now it seems that digital video is eating TV's lunch.
In an <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/cmo/2014/10/06/omnicom-advises-marketers-to-move-10-to-25-of-tv-ad-dollars-to-online-video/?mod=WSJBlog&amp;mod=wsj_cmohome_cmoreport">interview with the Wall Street Journal</a>, Omnicom Media Group chief executive Daryl Simm explained that online video is such an attractive proposition because there is more ability for clients to measure the effect of their advertising than traditional channels and there is more flexibility about where and when their ads run.
That money will have to be axed from network TV budgets: "Those budgets come from somewhere. They don't just invent themselves. They don't come from the abyss. They come from the media pot," he says.
While Simm's advice could set off alarm bells for some TV networks, he says a "significant portion" of that spend is diverted back to broadcasters because their content still makes up a fair proportion of the premium online video ad market.
Simm said the industry is reaching an "apex" between TV and online video advertising, as there is now more talent - "directors, producers and brands" - wanting to enter the online video space, although the amount of quality video ad inventory is still an issue.
And advertisers just aren't as excited about TV anymore: "There is a lower level of urgency than there once was when advertisers used to say 'I need to place these dollars right now because [ad inventory] won't be there later.' That is not the case today since there are so many more places to go now. I attribute it more to that than a broad scale reduction in demand [for TV]."
The global online video market is an explosive state of growth. Researchers at eMarketer recently <a href="http://www.emarketer.com/Article/Advertisers-Blend-Digital-TV-Well-Rounded-Campaigns/1010670">predicted</a> online video ad spend will overtake the amount spent on TV advertising as soon as 2018. 
Last week Mondelez, the giant international food company formerly known as Kraft, signed a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mondelez-youtube-deal-sees-ad-dollars-move-away-from-tv-2014-10">huge upfront global advertising deal</a> with Google that will see it commit to spending millions of dollars with the search giant on online video in the next couple of years. 
Mondelez said earlier this year that it plans to plug half of its media budget into digital advertising by 2016, after saying it drives <a href="http://adage.com/article/digital/mondelez-plans-big-digital-ad-spend-jump/291753/">"twice" the return of traditional TV advertising</a>.

Cases of malaria are considerably higher so far when compared to last year. Delhi has reported 363 malaria cases till this month while the figure stood at 294 in the corresponding month in 2023. As per a PTI report, the total malaria cases last year were 426. Most malaria cases are reported from the West Delhi zone. As for Chikungunya, 43 cases have been reported so far. This is nearly double than last year when the figure stood at 23. A total of 65 cases of the virus were reported last year. The most number of chikungunya cases have been reported from the South Delhi zone this year. Last week, the city witnessed a spike of nearly 250 cases of dengue in seven days. As per Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) data from January till September 21, a total of 1,229 dengue cases have been reported in the city with the death of a 54-year old registered in Lok Nayak Hospital, a senior official at the hospital had confirmed. Delhi reported 651 cases of dengue this month. Last month, a total of 256 dengue cases were reported in the city. The number of cases has become three-digit since August, it said. Last year, Delhi reported 3,013 dengue cases till the corresponding month, a manifold increase from 525 in 2022. A total of 9,266 cases were reported in the entire year while 19 dengue deaths were registered in the city last year. In September alone, the figure stood at 2,141 cases in 2023. The most number of cases this year are reported from the Najafgarg zone at 180. In a week, 45 cases have been reported in the area, the highest of all the zones besides the south zone where an equal number of cases were reported this week. The non-MCD areas governed by other agencies like NDMC, Delhi Cantt, and Railways, reported 312 dengue cases to the total tally, as per the data. To enforce mosquito control laws, the MCD has issued over 1.14 lakh legal notices and 39,338 challans to those who allowed mosquito breeding on their properties. Repeat offenders have been fined Rs 24.82 lakh, and police complaints have been filed against 9,241 people who didn't follow the rules, as per the data. The civic body also plans to increase fogging operations at major upcoming public events like Dussehra and Durga Puja and step up inspections and anti-larval measures in areas with high mosquito populations to curb the infectivity of the virus. Delhi reports over 300 dengue cases in a week; malaria and chikungunya cases on the rise

The number of <keyword id="6360092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dengue" source="Orion">dengue</keyword> cases witnesses a sharp rise in September with more than 400 new infections being reported in the last week of the month. A total of 693 cases of dengue were reported last month till September 28, according to a report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday. The city recorded a total of 525 dengue cases till September 21 this year while 412 fresh cases were reported in the week that followed, taking the tally of the vector-borne disease in the city to 937 so far this year, it said. In 2015, the city had witnessed a massive dengue outbreak, with the number of cases crossing 10,600 in October. It was Delhi's worst dengue outbreak since 1996. Of the 937 total cases recorded till September 28 this year, 75 were reported in August. It is also the highest number of dengue cases logged during the January 1-September 28 period since 2017, when the corresponding figure was 2,152. No death has been reported so far this year due to the disease. A total of 125 cases of malaria and 23 cases of chikungunya have also been reported this year in Delhi till September 28, the report said. The MCD has said that it has been conducting drives to check the spread of dengue. Amid a spike in dengue cases in the national capital, many people down with viral infection are exhibiting "overlapping symptoms" of Covid and the vector-borne disease, leaving both patients and doctors perplexed about the exact diagnosis. Cases of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria are usually reported between July and November, sometimes stretching till mid-December. Its symptoms include high fever, headache, rash and muscle and joint pain, which are quite similar to that of Covid which also includes fever or chills, muscle or body aches, fatigue and headache among others. In such a situation it has become difficult to ascertain whether a person suffering from fever, body ache and headache is Covid positive or not, doctors said. Amid the continuous spurt in dengue cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently said that a plan has been devised to combat the vector-borne disease. Last year, 9,613 dengue cases were recorded in the city, the highest since 2015, along with 23 deaths -- the maximum since 2016. According to the MCD report, the city recorded 23 dengue cases in January, 16 in February, 22 in March, 20 in April, 30 in May, 32 in June and 26 in July. According to the MCD report, breeding of mosquito larvae has been found at 1,30,544 households this year till September 28. Authorities issued 96,189 legal notices for mosquitogenic conditions, and 35,668 prosecutions were launched. In 2018, Delhi had reported 481 dengue cases during the January 1-September 21 period, according to the report. The figures in 2019, 2020 and 2021 were -- 282, 212 and 273, respectively. Ten deaths each were reported due to dengue in 2016 and 2017, four in 2018 and two in 2019. According to official data, 4,431 dengue cases were recorded in Delhi in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019 and 1,072 in 2020. PTI KND. New Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS) A dry run for the Covid vaccine will be conducted at 8 sites in the national capital on Wednesday, officials said. The dry run will be held at two hospitals under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation while six sites under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) including Maternity Mother and Child Welfare (MCW) Centre, Maternity Home (MH) and polyclinics would take part in it. MCW Hari Nagar, Poly Clinic Madipur, MCW Bijwasan, MH Sriniwas Puri, MCW Fatehpur Beri, MCW Defence Colony (all SDMC), Bara Hindu Rao Hospital and Kasturba Hospital (both North MCD) are among the centres which would participate in the drive. The officials also informed that around 100-200 health care workers will participate in the mock drill for the vaccine roll-out across the centres. North MCD Mayor Jai Prakash told IANS that around 60 healthcare workers from both the MCD-run hospitals are ready for the drive. "The hospitals (Hindu Rao and Kasturba) have converted their swine flu wards into a vaccination point. Besides, two ICU beds are also provisioned by each hospital, in case a vaccine receiver witnesses any severe adverse event during inoculation of the Covid vaccine," he said. "Our hospitals are fully prepared for the Corona vaccine. The North DMC will follow all the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health for the vaccine in the dry run process. Same procedure would also be adopted in the dry run of vaccination to the people, whose process is fixed for the actual vaccination," he added. The dry-run in Delhi began last week starting with the three sites. Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Shahdara, the Urban Primary Health Centre, Daryaganj, and Venkateshwar Hospital, Dwarka, were the first in the national capital to conduct the dry-run on Saturday. 25 healthcare workers from each centre had undergone the mock drive. --IANS str/vd
