The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 129.72 points to hit a new all-time high of 80,481.36 during the opening trade. But, soon the benchmark retreated and tumbled 915.88 points to 79,435.76 during the late morning trade. The NSE Nifty also hit its fresh lifetime high of 24,461.05 in opening deals but pared all gains and declined 291.4 points to 24,141.80. In Asian markets, Shanghai and Hong Kong were quoting lower while Seoul and Tokyo traded higher. US markets ended on a mixed note on Tuesday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.67 per cent to USD 84.09 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 314.46 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. Markets retreat from record high levels dragged by M&M, IT stocks; Sensex tanks over 900 points

After an initial knee-jerk reaction, the index traded in the positive zone and settled at 22,466 levels. From a technical perspective, the index is maintaining a strong hold above the 21-day exponential moving average (21-DEMA), which is positioned at 22,320 levels. As long as the index holds above the 22,320 levels, the rally could extend to 22,600. However, we are gradually approaching the previous resistance of 22,800, where the index has formed a bearish engulfing candle. Thus, traders are advised to take some profit off the table," said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates. Sensex climbs over 250 pts on buying in Reliance, M&M

The company had posted a consolidated PAT of Rs 2,637 crore in the January-March quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal, <keyword id="19981454" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mm" source="keywords">M&amp;M</keyword> said in a regulatory filing. <keyword id="19945274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue" source="keywords">Revenue</keyword> increased to Rs 35,452 crore in the fourth quarter, registering a growth of 9 per cent, as compared to Rs 32,456 crore in the corresponding period a year ago, it added. For the year full year ended March 31, the company posted a consolidated <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> of Rs 11,269 crore as against Rs 9,025 crore in FY23, an increase of 25 per cent. Revenue rose 15 per cent to Rs 1,39,078 crore in the last fiscal as compared with Rs 1,21,362 crore in FY23. "It has been an excellent year with most of our businesses delivering a high level of performance. Markets fall in early trade after four days of rally; TaMo & M&M top gainers

Its EBITDA margin expanded YoY, supported by commodity tailwinds. In Q3FY24, gross profit per vehicle and EBITDA per vehicle improved over Q2FY24. Recovery in the domestic two-wheeler segment is expected to continue. "We are impressed by Bajaj Auto's margin resilience despite adverse mix (3W volume contribution down 300bps QoQ). This validates the fact that its margin performance is not overtly dependent on 3W performance. Domestic 2W retail market share gain has been impressive at 150bps YoY to 12 per cent YTDFY24. Domestic 2W industry volumes have held up post festive season as well. We expect these to grow in high single-digit in FY25E," Elara Securities said.

Bajaj Auto topples M&M as third most valuable auto company in India

However, the lower share of farm equipment in total volumes during FY23 resulted in a decline in net margins, which fell to 7.7% from 8.4% in FY22. "It has been a blockbuster year for the group. Auto led the way with record-breaking launches, as we regained the #1 position for SUV revenue market share. M&amp;M also expanded its dominance in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment, increasing its revenue market share by 170 basis points YoY to 19.6%. M&M Q4 standalone net profit rises 22% YoY to ₹1,549 crore, misses estimates

Stocks of the Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) group have been under selling pressure and were the top Sensex losers on Thursday. M&amp;M slumped 6.5 per cent after the company announced equity stake buy in RBL Bank. On Wednesday, it made an announcement of acquiring a 3.53 per cent stake in RBL Bank as an investment at a cost of Rs 417 crore. “We may consider further investment subject to pricing, regulatory approvals and required procedures. However, in no circumstance will it exceed 9.9 per cent”, M&amp;M said in a filing. In a communication, RBL Bank said that the holding of M&amp;M Limited as per the last beneficiary position as on July 21 as received from the depository (NSDL) is 3.53 per cent of the total paid up share capital of the bank. “We being a listed company, for trading in the shares of the Bank there is no pre-approval required from the bank except for the fact that as per the Master Direction -- <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (Acquisition and Holding of Shares or Voting Rights in Banking Companies) Directions, 2023, any shareholder who wishes to acquire 5 per cent or more of the shareholding of the bank is required to make an application to Reserve Bank of India to seek their prior approval for such acquisition. No such application has been received by us till date,” the bank said. <keyword id="43217" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="Orion">Tech Mahindra</keyword> was down more than 3 per cent after the IT major’s poor show in Q1 results. Motilal Oswal Financial Services said in a report that Tech Mahindra delivered a weak 1QFY24 performance, with revenue declining 4.2 per cent QoQ in CC to $1.6 billion, missing our estimate of a 2.5 per cent decline. "Due to the sharp dip in revenue, Tech Mahindra also saw a steep fall in profitability, exacerbated by a 200bp one-time impact from bankruptcy of a client. We expect the company’s profitability to improve from 2Q onward, partially through sharp cost control and headcount cuts despite high utilisation," the report said. "While we expect a potential for performance improvement after the leadership refresh in Jun’23, we believe this will take time given the macro headwinds and limited flexibility to invest in growth because of weak current profitability. We remain on the sidelines as we feel the current valuation fairly factors in the uncertainties around growth and margin. We cut our FY24/FY25 EPS estimates by 8-10 per cent on weak margin and muted outlook." Emkay Global Financial Services said Tech Mahindra’s revenue slumped 4 per cent QoQ (4.2 per cent CC) to $1.6 billion, missing our estimates. EBITM declined by 440bps QoQ to 6.8 per cent, well below our estimate even after adjusting for one-offs. Deal wins remain weak, and stand at $359 million (TTM deal-intake down 25 per cent YoY). Tech Mahindra has failed to capitalise on its strength in the areas of communications, ER&amp;D, BPO, XDS, etc, and deliver consistent performance in the past, the note said.

Seoul, Global fabrication capacity for 200-millimeter wafers is forecast to jump 14 per cent over the next three years, a report showed on Thursday, as demand for chips used in electric vehicles (EVs), in particular, is sharply rising. "The development of powertrain inverters and charging stations for EVs in particular is expected to fuel increases in global 200mm wafer capacity, as EV adoption continues to rise," according to the 200mm <keyword id="18943431" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fab-outlook" source="Orion">Fab Outlook</keyword> to 2026 report, published by SEMI, a global industry association representing some 3,000 electronics design and manufacturing companies worldwide. "The global <keyword id="581400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="semiconductor-industry" source="Orion">semiconductor industry</keyword>'s ramp to record 200mm fab capacity highlights the bullish expectations for growth in the automotive market in particular," SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha said. "While automotive chip supply has stabilised, the increased chip content in EVs and the drive to reduce charging time is spurring capacity expansions," he added, reports Yonhap news agency. India’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki has delivered an 8% increase in sales for the month of June, as compared to last year, thanks to the improved performance of its SUV range like Brezza, Grand Vitara and Ertiga – which surged two-fold. Even as sales of its mini cars – Alto and S-Presso fell marginally, compact car sales like Swift, Celerio, and Baleno slumped by 17%. However, its overall sales are lower than Jefferies’ expectations of 1.68 lakh units in June. As per Anand Rathi, the company management expects 5-7% industry volume growth in FY24, and Maruti Suzuki volume growth in double digits. The stock fell around 0.8% in early trade. Tata Motors posted a flat sales of 1% growth in domestic sales in June. Jefferies predicted that Tata Motors will see a 4-5% YoY decline mainly led by lower LCV volumes. Commercial vehicle sales fell by 15%, even as passenger sales went up by 8%. However, Girish Wagh, executive director of Tata Motors says that they showed a month-on-month improvement. “For the month of June 2023, they were 20.2% higher than the vehicle sales registered in May 2023. Looking ahead, the promising monsoon and continuing infrastructure thrust by the government augers well for the CV industry, even as it faces the headwinds of high interest rates, fuel prices and inflation,” said Wagh. The stock too has been trading flat as it fell by 0.2% in early Monday trade. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra’s stock was trading higher by 1.6% as it presented a strong 21% growth in overall auto sales. The BSE auto index is trading down by 0.6% as of 11:44 am, with most stocks in the red. 2W sales suffer on tepid exports Bajaj Auto sales fell by 2% overall, but the fall is lower than expected as Jefferies predicted it to fall to 3.3 lakh on account of lower exports. However, the automaker withstood it to 3.40 lakh. In spite of it, the stock fell by 1.1%. TVS Motors’ sales grew 4% but the growth was lower than analyst expectations – leading to a 0.7% fall in the stock. Hero Motocorp stock also fell by over 1.7% after it reported a 9.8% fall in sales. The company however hopes sales will pick up in the coming months. “The onset of monsoon in most parts of the country and overall economic indicators bode well for a growth in demand, and industry
