Bengaluru, The South Western Railway (SWR) zone would operate 22 special trains to and from Karnataka from October 23-27 to ferry passengers for Dasara, Diwali and Chhath puja, an official said on Wednesday. "The 22 special trains or 11 pairs are part of 392 (196 pairs) to be run across the country from October 20 to December 3 for Dasara, Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals to enable people travel to their native place or where they want to celebrate with families and friends," a zonal official told IANS here. With regular service suspended since the Covid-induced lockdown on March 25 to contain the virus spread, thousands of people have been unable to travel in the absence of passenger trains across the country. Among the special trains are: Weekly superfast express from Yesvantpur in Bengaluru to Korba in Chhattisgarh from October 23 to November 27 on Friday and from Korba to Yesvantpur from October 25 to November 29 on Sunday. Bi-weekly express from Mysuru to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh from October 20 to November 26 on Tuesday and Thursday and from Varanasi to Mysuru from October 22 to November 28 on Thursday and Saturday. Weekly express from Yesvantpur to Ahmedabad in Gujarat from October 25 to November 29 on Sunday and from Ahmedabad to Yesvantpur from October 27 to December 1 on Tuesday. Weekly express from Bengaluru City to Gandhidham in Gujarat from October 24 to November 28 on Saturday and from Gandhidham to Bengaluru City from October 27 to December 1 on Tuesday. Daily express from Hubballi to Lokmanya Tilak terminus in Mumbai from October 22 to November 30 and from Mumbai to Hubballi from October 23 to December 1. Daily express from Dharwad to Mysuru from October 20 to November 30 and from Mysuru to Dharwad from October 21 to December 1. Weekly superfast express from Vasco-Da-Gama in Goa to Patna in Bihar from October 21 to November 25 on Wednesday and from Patna to Vasco from October 24 to December 3 on Saturday. Bi-weekly express from Bengaluru city to Jodhpur in Rajasthan from October 24 to December 3 on Thursday and Saturday and from Jodhpur to Bengaluru from October 21 to November 30 on Monday and Wednesday. Daily express from Hubballi to Secunderabad from October 20 to November 30 and from Secunderabad to Hubballi from October 21 to December 1. Bi-weekly express from Mysuru to Ajmer in Rajasthan from October 20 to November 26 on Tuesday and Thursday and from Ajmer to Mysuru from October 23 to November 29 on Friday and Sunday. Weekly express from Hubballi to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh from October 23 to November 27 on Friday and from Varanasi to Hubballi from October 25 to November 29 on Sunday. "Travel in all festival trains will be on reservation. Hand sanitisation, thermal screening, social distancing, wearing of face shield or mask by passengers and other health protocol will have to be followed," said the official in a statement. South Western Railway to operate 22 festival trains to and from Karnataka

Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> today flagged off the first indigenously built '<keyword id="195876" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Medha">Medha</keyword>' rake on the western corridor of the city, according to a <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword> news report. 
 "We are proud to have built this rake under the Make in India campaign. We are working on various railway projects worth Rs 51,000 crore for the people of Mumbai city, besides projects worth Rs 1.36 lakh crore are underway for the state of <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword>," <keyword id="19179" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhu">Prabhu</keyword> said in his speech. 
 Two Medha rakes were on a trial mode since last two years and have been designed and built at the <keyword id="49000" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Integral-Coach-Factory">Integral Coach Factory</keyword> in Chennai. 
 The seats of these trains are ergonomically designed for better seating comfort of the passengers. The cost of each Medha rake is Rs 43.23 crore, as against Rs 44.36 crore spent for <keyword id="117791" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bombardier">Bombardier</keyword> rakes. 
 
Prabhu said his ministry was on a "mission mode" to transform the Railways. 
 
"We have chalked out a roadmap to transform the railway and therefore, we have prepared the blueprint of long-term, short-term and medium-term investment to achieve this target. Most importantly, railway authorities have been vested powers to use the fund according to their profile," said Prabhu. 
 During the event, Prabhu also flagged off Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Tatanagar-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus <keyword id="3260043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antyodaya-Express">Antyodaya Express</keyword> (bi-weekly). 
 Having a seating capacity of 2,000, the <keyword id="113158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antyodaya">Antyodaya</keyword> Express is meant to be a long-distance, fully unreserved, super-fast train service, which will cover the distance between the two cities in 25 hours. 
 
20-general-coach Antyodaya train has many advanced amenities like water purifiers, fire extinguishers, mobile charging points, anti-theft arrangement, cushioned luggage racks with coat hooks, LED lights and bio-toilets. 
 The regular service will leave <keyword id="426621" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lokmanya-Tilak-Terminus">Lokmanya Tilak Terminus</keyword> at 1.20 PM every Tuesday and Saturday and enroute the train will halt at Igatpuri, Bhusaval, Nagpur, Gondia, Durg, <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword>, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Chakradharpur stations. 
 Prabhu also flagged off Miraj- Solapur-Miraj Express daily train through a video link, besides announcing <keyword id="4309574" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lokmanya-tilak-terminus-lucknow-lokmanya-tilak">Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Lucknow-Lokmanya Tilak</keyword> Terminus AC Superfast (weekly), which will commence its regular services from April 8, 2017. 
 
He also laid foundation stone for the construction of the fourth line between Bhusaval-Jalgaon a 24-km stretch at an approximate cost of Rs 260 crores. 
 
During the event, Prabhu also inaugurated the mechanised laundry installed at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (coaching depot) having capacity of 13,000 bed rolls per day.

The <keyword id="6364162" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="central-railway">Central Railway</keyword> has increased the <keyword id="459" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="price">price</keyword> of platform tickets at some key stations in the <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> Metropolitan Region (<keyword id="6381620" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="mmr">MMR</keyword>) to avoid over-crowding during the upcoming summer season in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said on Tuesday. A platform ticket now costs ₹50 instead of the previous rate of ₹10 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai, and neighbouring <keyword id="37647" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thane">Thane</keyword>, Kalyan, <keyword id="60623" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Panvel">Panvel</keyword> and Bhiwandi Road stations, CR's chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said. The new rate came into force on February 24 and will remain effective till June 15 this year, the official said. "The decision was taken to prevent over-crowding at these stations during the summer travel rush," he said. Since the second week of February, there has been a surge in daily COVID-19 cases in Mumbai. The city has so far reported over 3.25 lakh COVID-19 cases and more than 11,400 deaths due to the disease.
