The round also saw participation from Avataar Ventures and Kalaari Capital. With the funding, ElasticRun will invest in building its technology platform and evolve its analytics and machine learning platform. The startup also wants to expand to newer geographies. It is currently present in 200 cities in India. “The last mile problem is still a major issue both for logistics and consumer goods companies in India. By working with the network of small stores across the country, we solve that problem while helping the store owners grow their businesses at the same time. In addition, offering a flexible logistics extension to consumer goods companies to directly reach these small retail shops is a huge advantage over traditional distribution networks,” said Sandeep Deshmukh, ElasticRun Co-Founder and CEO. The latest funding in the $300 billion logistics industry in India is another proof of growing investor interest in the category. This year, two logistics startups Delhivery and Rivigo also achieved unicorn status. Rivigo raised $65 million in its latest Series E round. The funding came in from PE firm Warburg Pincus and SAIF Partners. Another logistics startup Blackbuck raised funds in May and fell a few million short of being a unicorn. It is currently valued at $950 million. Blackbuck raised $150 million from Goldman Sachs Investment Partners and Silicon Valley-based Accel, along with Wellington, Sequoia Capital, B Capital and LightStreet and existing investors Sands Capital and International Finance Corporation.

A wave of e-commerce logistics startups is threatening to break the UPS and FedEx duopoly

<ul><li>Logistics startup <keyword id="3156357" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rivigo">Rivigo</keyword> has raised $65 million in its Series E round.</li><li>This funding, which came in from Warburg Pincus and <keyword id="161314" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAIF-Partners">SAIF Partners</keyword>, is a part of its ongoing Series E round. </li><li>The startup’s last reported valuation was $950 million and with this funding it could have crossed the $1 billion mark to be a unicorn.</li></ul>Logistics startup Rivigo raised $65 million in its latest Series E round. The funding came in from PE firm Warburg Pincus and SAIF Partners. Rivigo’s last reported valuation was at $950 million when it raised the earlier tranche for the Series E round, in February. With the new round, Rivigo could have become India’s latest unicorn, although it’s not confirmed yet. “We continue on our mission to make logistics human and digital. Relay trucking is now very well established where relay truck pilots lead better life and customers gets exceptional service. Logistics startups are enjoying a historic funding boom. Here's what 13 recent deals say about where the industry is headed.

Supply-chain tech attracted a whopping $19.3 billion across 534 deals in 2018, according to Pitchbook. That's way up from previous years; in 2010, venture capitalists invested less than $1 billion total in just 85 deals. The one-year old company Quikmile aids easy monitoring of fleet management – from engine behaviour, tire conditions, mileage etc. Airtel has a supply chain management function, where it has a team of supply chain subject matter experts and execution teams operating under different business divisions across the country. Earlier in October, Airtel also picked up a stake in Bengaluru-based AI startup Vahanthrough its startup accelerator programme.

Airtel acquires Gurgaon-based logistics tech startup Quikmile

<keyword id="4413389" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="brring">Brring</keyword> is a two year old end-to-end perishable <keyword id="108235" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="logistics">logistics</keyword> and supply chain management company headquartered in Bangalore. Unlike the other upcoming startups, this one is probably the only profitable company in this industry and the reason is simple.

Nehru also says that they don’t believe in discounting and charge the partner companies fairly in accordance to their services. We don’t compromise on service but then we don’t compromise on our compensation either. There is an increasing market demand for their customized supply chain and decentralized sourcing services. Case in point, 50% of their revenue comes from Big Basket with over 10,000 deliveries carried out by Brring of 40,000 deliveries that the company does.

This Indian logistics startup is profitable for a simple reason

<ul><li>In an interview with Business Insider, Akshay Ghulati the chief business officer of <keyword id="4178573" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ShipRocket">Shiprocket</keyword> shares how the company achieved profitability. </li><li>The company currently has an annualised revenue run-rate of between of $25-30 million. </li><li>The startup has grown riding the e-commerce wave but it’s not much affected by the losses of the sector.</li></ul>Indian <keyword id="108235" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="logistics">logistics</keyword> <keyword id="6362513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups">startups</keyword> have been buzzing this year as Delhivery and Rivigo turned unicorns. But that’s not the only good news. Yet another startup Shiprocket has turned profitable, the company exclusively told Business Insider. It currently has an annualised revenue run-rate between of $25-30 million. In an interview with Business Insider, Akshay Ghulati the chief business officer of Shiprocket explained how the company grew even as the sector it caters to – e-commerce – is making losses. “We are aiming to grow by 3.5 times by the end of this financial year. This has also been a landmark year because the growth has opened up a lot of new opportunities,” said Ghulati. This year, they have seen a lot of traction grow from direct-to-consumer brands. Over 100 brands that were unheard for two years, have become popular with massive orders. As many as 60% of its orders come from social commerce (people selling from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), 30% from D2C and 10% from Amazon or other e-commerce platforms. “In the D2C space, brands are dealing with the consumer experience. So, we have become a very important partner and not just a vendor anymore. The discussion is not about how can you do it cheaper but how can you do better,” said Ghulati. Shiprocket functions as a technology logistics partner. It doesn’t own a fleet but handles everything once an order is placed – from giving the client options for deliveries, to tracking and even communicating with the consumer. “We are looking at ways of faster deliveries where we can be the <keyword id="758541" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-Prime">Amazon Prime</keyword> for the non-Amazon prime customers,” Ghulati said with a laugh. During the festive season, Shiprocket clocked in 1.5 million deliveries in a month. The startup has grown riding the e-commerce wave but it’s not affected by the losses of the sector. “E-commerce is a loss making industry because of discounting. We are in a phase of e-commerce growth where its about adoption – getting people to trust buying online. In India, we went from complete unorganised retail to suddenly buying online. Tier 1 and 2 cities are coming out of that phase – where they aren’t buying something just because it’s cheaper,” he said. And it is in Bharat – the next 200 million internet users where lies the real opportunity. Ghulati believes that logistics will play a large part in the growth of Bharat as it will provide faster ways to reach consumers in far off places. Shiprocket currently delivers to 26,000 pincodes in India. They deliver across 220 countries.

And if you have been a part of these discussions, two logistics startups names have always come in – <keyword id="3156357" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rivigo">Rivigo</keyword> and Blackbuck. All eyes have been on funding announcements by either of these startups, to know that they have ferried their way into being a unicorn. Well, Blackbuck announced its funding on Wednesday, and although it has fallen a few million short of being a unicorn (it is currently valued at $950 million) – it had another interesting Employee Stock Ownership Plan (<keyword id="120103" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Esop">ESOP</keyword>) round. The online marketplace for trucking has raised $150 million from Goldman Sachs Investment Partners and Silicon Valley-based Accel, along with Wellington, Sequoia Capital, B Capital and LightStreet and existing investors Sands Capital and International Finance Corporation. “With this round of financing, we will invest to deepen our presence across the national market. Significant investments will be made into product development and data sciences, both these dimensions are core to BlackBuck’s marketplace approach”, said Rajesh Yabaji, CEO &amp; Co-Founder of BlackBuck. However, along with this round Blackbuck employees had the option to liquidate 25% of their total vested stocks, at the current stock price of the company. According to the company’s official statement, over the last four years, the company’s employee stock option (ESOP) plan created a cumulative value of over $43 million and the company continues to invest heavily in this direction. The logistics startup made this offer available to its employees for the second time. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vcs-brace-for-lower-valuations-startups-can-win-new-talent-2022-2">cooler environment for venture-backed startups</a> is causing belt-tightening across tech sectors.</li><li>After a huge 2021, <keyword id="11894138" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="supply-chain" source="Orion">supply chain</keyword> tech funding is slowing this year, according to Pitch Book data.</li></ul>Rounds are shrinking and valuations are waning, but supply chains remain challenged. The problem may be shifting from inventory shortage to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/us-wholesale-inventories-unrevised-march-2022-05-09/">inventory glut</a>, but the pressure to keep service up and costs down is still high as ever. 2021 was a banner year for supply chain tech. <keyword id="6362513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="startups" source="Orion">Startups</keyword> across supply chain management, freight tech, warehouse tech, and last-mile delivery raked in $64 billion, according to Pitchbook. As of May 9 this year, supply chain tech has raised $17 billion — roughly 27% of last year's funding total and 35% of the way through 2022. That means supply chain tech venture funding in 2022 is currently pacing to land somewhere above 2020's $38 billion, but below 2021's $64 billion. Charley Dehoney vice president of Xebox, a tech accelerator founded by the CEO of ocean shipping giant CMA CGM, told Insider business-to-business tech is maintaining investor confidence better than consumer tech. "I'm definitely seeing that rounds are still coming together — mostly the premium startups that have high quality growth numbers and really good adoption. They're still getting funded at valuations 65% what they were three or four months ago," Dehoney said. Supply chain-related startups told Insider that investors have increasingly focused on unit economics toward the second half of last year — especially for companies actually moving goods. "Investors care a lot right now about unit economics for businesses like this, where historically there's been there have been companies that have raised a lot of money that haven't necessarily built a sustainable business model," Eric Wimer, founder and CEO of reverse <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/9-reverse-logistics-startups-raising-funds-to-tackle-ecommerce-returns-2022-1">logistics startup Returnmates told Insider</a> in January. Returns pickup, which Wimer champions, may be under increased scrutiny due to a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ecommerce-r">spotty history.</a> But even <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/e-commerce-logistics-startups-threatening-ups-fedex-duopoly-2021-9">last mile delivery startups</a>, which have traditionally received more funding than any other segment of supply chain tech, are on alert. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/last-mile-delivery-startup-veho-series-b-2022-2">Veho founder Itamur Zur told Insider </a>in February that the company's unit economics were as important to investors in its $170 million Series B round as its expansive vision for the future of e-commerce. Last-mile startups continue to draw the most backing from venture investors, but their share of total supply chain investment is dwindling.
