<p>In an effort to rebrand, the <a href="http://www.lflus.com/#">Lingerie Football League has changed its name</a> to the "Legends Football League."</p>
<p>The LFL, which took a season off, will return in the spring of 2013 with its new name. So what will be different about the league?</p>
<p>First of all, there will be no more lingerie. According to the LFL's press release, "performance wear" will replace the current lingerie uniforms. Also, the "sexy woman" logos will all be replaced, and the league's tagline will switch from "True Fantasy Football," to "Women of the Gridiron."</p>
<p>As far as we know, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lingerie-football-league-2011-10">the rules will all stay the same</a>.</p>
<p>Basically, the LFL is taking the sexy side of the league away and focusing on sport and athleticism instead of the women's bodies. Kudos!</p>
<p>So what will this do for the league? It should be interesting, as of now, we can probably assume most people who went to these games went because of the uniforms, and not for the actual game. Now that this aspect is gone completely, the LFL may lose a lot of its fanbase, but let's hope not.</p>

In order to reach the next milestone, we feel the focus has to be the sport and our amazing athletes", said Mitchell S. Mortaza, Founder &amp; Chairman, Lingerie Football League, LLC.</p>

The Lingerie Football League Will Not Play In Bras And Underwear Anymore

<p>At the beginning of January, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lingerie-football-league-re-branding-2013-1">Lingerie Football League announced that it would be rebranding</a> the league and renaming it the Legends Football League.</p>
<p>The biggest change to the league was supposedly the uniforms, the athletes would wear "performance wear," the press release said, instead of lingerie.</p>
<p>Well, some of <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/fox-friends/index.html#/v/2110491310001/lingerie-football-league-losing-the-lingerie/?playlist_id=86912">the women in the league went on Fox and Friends</a> Tuesday in their new "performance wear" uniforms and they are basically exactly the same as the lingerie uniforms.</p>
<p>LFL founder Mitch Mortaza said the reason for the rebranding of the league is to "empower the women," and "shift more of the focus to the sport." Mortaza also said that people already come to watch LFL for the sport and not for the sex appeal and that you actually get more sex at a women's beach volleyball match.</p>
<p>Right.</p>
<p>Here's what Mortaza had to say about the uniforms:</p>

The New Uniforms For Legends Football League Are Still Basically Lingerie

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A former lingerie league football player was diagnosed with a terminal blood cancer at age 41.</li><li>She says doctors missed the first signs of multiple myeloma, which showed up in her urine years earlier.</li></ul><p>The first thing Roban Lampkin noticed was the bubbles. Small, compact constellations in her urine, on the surface of the toilet water.</p><p>"I'd never seen that in my life," she told Insider. "Bubbles that stayed on the rim." </p><p>Her doctor initially suggested it might be some kind of protein in her pee, which can be a warning sign for kidney damage, but the doctor didn't think too much of it.</p><p>As years passed, Lampkin started developing a wide array of health issues, some of which were hard to dismiss. </p><p>Bruises. <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRQrSwuT/">Red spots</a>. Swollen ankles. A repulsion to alcohol. And fatigue — near constant fatigue. </p><div type="image" title="swollen ankles" height="1913" width="2551" msid="95947820" hostid="261" sizebytes="211620"></div><p>At one point in the fall of 2019, her tongue and the insides of her cheeks became so swollen with sores it was hard to speak. Maybe she'd just been biting her tongue too much, she thought. </p><p>There was searing lower back pain, too. It got so intense Lampkin couldn't get out of bed in the morning unless she step-by-step walked her body up, up, up into an upright position. </p><div type="image" title="woman opening mouth, revealing cheek and tongue sores" height="2274" width="3024" msid="95947821" hostid="261" sizebytes="124222"></div><p>She felt exhausted. "I'm working, I'm dancing, I'm going to school," she remembered. "I'm doing too much," she told herself.  </p><p>Finally, Lampkin developed neuropathy, severe burning sensations in her hands and arms that were so acute they "woke me up screaming in the middle of the night." That's when she started visiting urgent care and the emergency room, desperate for answers. </p><h2>Her burning hands were dismissed as carpal tunnel </h2><p>At first, doctors dismissed Lampkin's new hand pains as carpal tunnel. </p><p>"I knew that I didn't have carpal tunnel," she said. "<a href="https://www.aafp.org/pubs/afp/issues/2011/0415/p952.html">Carpal tunnel</a> affects millions of people — there's no way people function like this."</p><p>After more than a handful of unsuccessful doctor's visits over the course of a few weeks, Lampkin once again woke up in excruciating, burning hand pain. </p><p>That day, "I went in screaming, crying, more out of frustration" to get providers to take her concerns seriously, she said. "I had to remember the pain that I'd been in."</p><p>That's when clinicians started a weeklong barrage of tests and bloodwork. First, they discovered Lampkin's kidneys were near failure.</p><p>"I was like, 'What? I'm not here for my kidneys,'" Lampkin said. "'I'm here for my hands and my tongue.'"</p><p>After several more days of tests, Lampkin's doctors went back to the toilet for answers, the same place where her worries began. She collected all her urine for a 24-hour period, and that's how doctors finally discovered that the protein that had been in her toilet for years was now a cancerous <a href="https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/bence-jones-protein">Bence-Jones protein</a>, a hallmark sign of the blood cancer called multiple myeloma. She was 41.</p><div type="image" title="mom, daughter laying down together, smiling" height="2320" width="3088" msid="95947822" hostid="261" sizebytes="320576"></div><p>Looking back, Lampkin says the signs of her disease were all "stuff that I believe most people would overlook, would not really pay that much attention to." </p><p>"Too bad that my doctor didn't either," she said. </p><h2>Multiple myeloma is an uncommon cancer</h2><p>Multiple myeloma is a relatively unusual cancer, accounting for less than 2% of all new cancer cases, with about <a href="https://seer.cancer.gov/statfacts/html/mulmy.html">34,500 new diagnoses</a> every year in the US. But it's also a dangerous disease, with a 5-year relative survival rate of less than 60%.  There are new, investigational cancer therapies, <a href="https://www.insider.com/6-lupus-patients-cured-by-cancer-therapy-doctors-blown-away-2022-9">like pricey CAR-T</a>, which show promise in some people with multiple myeloma, but the cancer affects everyone a little differently, and a functional cure is still elusive.</p><div type="image" title="patient laying in hospital bed with port" height="1536" width="2048" msid="95947823" hostid="261" sizebytes="292180"></div><p>Today, Lampkin, a former <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lingerie-football-league-2011-10">lingerie football league</a> player and dancer, says her bones hurt and she's often very tired. It's frustrating, she said.  </p><p>"It was such a life lesson," Lampkin said, going from working out regularly and feeling "like I was really pretty, and fit, and athletic, and I took care of my myself," into five months of chemotherapy infusions, losing her long hair, and dealing with the other side effects of cancer treatment. </p><p>"It's difficult still, but I'm getting better at it," she said. </p><p>Two years ago, Lampkin received a bone marrow transplant, and her case is considered to be in remission. She takes a small, maintenance dose of a chemotherapy drug, and is on nerve pain medication. Perhaps if she had been diagnosed sooner, her kidneys might've had less damage, but she says she doesn't like to focus too much on that now.</p><p>"I am here to get to take advantage of whatever time I have left," she said. </p><p>Lampkin has 35,000 followers on her myeloma-themed TikTok, where she regularly posts about her symptoms, and how having cancer has changed her outlook on life. </p> <p>"I'm just speaking my feelings," she said. "I think people appreciate that, and they feel like it's relatable even if they don't have what I have."</p><p>Some women connect with her over shared stories of misdiagnosis or <a href="https://www.insider.com/doctor-mike-how-to-deal-with-avoid-medical-gaslighting-2022-8">medical gaslighting</a>. Lampkin is also working on starting a new non-profit called Myeloma Movement, which she hopes will provide funding to multiple myeloma patients, serve as an educational resource about the disease, and fund research for a cure.  </p><p>Recently, she learned that her grandfather also died from some kind of blood cancer, though she's not sure it was the same one she has. </p><p>"One uncle says it was multiple myeloma, another uncle says that it was leukemia, and then my dad says he just doesn't know," Lampkin said. "People have to know what it is — they have to understand."</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"<keyword id="7496509" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="emily-in-paris">Emily in Paris</keyword>," <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword>'s hit new show, features a main character who drops everything to take a job abroad. </li><li>I've also moved across the world twice — to <keyword id="6354968" type="LOCATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="london">London</keyword>, and then to <keyword id="5629" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Sydney">Sydney</keyword> — for work, but that's where my similarities with Emily mostly end. </li><li>The show, which was just renewed for a second season, fails to capture many essential parts of the expat experience — relying instead on predictable clichés and stereotypes. </li><li>From politics and food to culture clashes and long-distance relationships, here's how "Emily in Paris" really missed the mark. </li></ul><p>Picture this: An American girl drops everything to take a job abroad. She shows up for her first day of work in the wrong clothes, doesn't understand anything her new coworkers say, and has a knack for regularly embarrassing herself. Oh, and there's a lot of hot men with accents. </p><p>No, this is not the elevator pitch for "Emily in Paris." It was my life — twice. Just like Lily Collins' titular character in Netflix's hit new show, I accepted jobs overseas in London and Sydney in search of adventure, and found plenty of culture shock, <keyword id="6367193" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dating">dating</keyword> surprises, and kind strangers. </p><p>Despite its wild success, "Emily in Paris" also gets plenty wrong. It's managed to <a href="https://www.insider.com/emily-in-paris-unrealistic-moments-season-one-netflix-2020-10">piss off the French, social media managers</a>, and an <a href="https://www.insider.com/lou-malnatis-response-emily-in-paris-disgusting-deep-dish-pizza-2020-10">iconic Chicago pizzeria</a>. And as someone who knows what it's like to work abroad, I also found that <a href="https://www.insider.com/emily-in-paris-star-lucas-bravo-understands-netflix-show-criticism-2020-10">the show missed the mark</a> on so many essential parts of the expat experience, from politics and food to immersion and long-distance relationships.</p><h2><strong>At its heart, "Emily in Paris" is meant to be a workplace comedy that focuses on culture clashes</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="emily in paris lily collins" height="2400" width="3600" msid="79224966" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>It's hard to explore the cultural differences in workplace attitudes without falling into stereotypes — like the laissez-faire French and capitalist Americans. There are so many nuances to working abroad — so many cultural differences that you wouldn't think of until you actually get there — that <a href="https://www.insider.com/emily-in-paris-netflix-fashion-lily-collins-outfits-phone-case-2020-10">"Emily in Paris"</a> never really picks up on. </p><p>When I moved to London, for example, I quickly learned how integral tea was to office life. It's the norm for coworkers to trade off the responsibility of getting each other cups of English breakfast tea throughout the day. To not drink this tea, to not deliver it to your peers, is to exclude yourself from a cherished bonding ritual. </p><p>And even though both of my offices abroad were in English-speaking countries, I didn't anticipate just how much <a href="https://www.insider.com/lily-collins-relates-emily-in-paris-moved-from-uk-2020-10">translation I would need when it came to cultural references</a>. It wasn't just about turning all my Z's into S's, or realizing that "How ya going?" is Australian for "How are you doing?" and not "Where are you going?" </p><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris essay" height="1280" width="1058" msid="79224969" hostid="261"></div><p>There was a mountain of slang I didn't understand. There were beloved soap operas — "Neighbours" and "Home and Away" for Aussies; "EastEnders" for Brits — that I had never watched. There were traditions I had never heard of. </p><p>Unlike Emily, though, one of the biggest joys I found while living abroad was trying to completely immerse myself in all of these unkowns. The bulk of Emily's sightseeing seems to be going on jogs through the Seine and gazing up adoringly at the Eiffel Tower — entirely bland romps that reveal nothing about the city she's in. She never even takes the Métro! </p><p>I wanted to be able to connect with my British and Aussie coworkers, so I checked out the things they talked about. I began watching "Made in Chelsea" every Monday (the Brits' version of "The Hills," albeit with way more dinner parties), went to Australian football games and followed the Premier League, and read up on their celebrity gossip, becoming well-versed in the vacations of Coleen Rooney and the troubles of Roxy Jacenko. </p><h2><strong>"Emily in Paris" also fails to capture the magic of exploring a different country's food, unless you count all those pain au chocolats</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris" height="1261" width="1682" msid="79224971" hostid="261"></div><p>Because I primarily write about food for a living, I tend to pay an inordinate amount of attention to the way it's portrayed in pop culture. But I couldn't help but be annoyed that "Emily in Paris" reduced French cuisine to croissants and some innuendo-laden references to coq au vin. </p><p>While I did appreciate the scene in which Emily orders her steak medium and is then shocked that there's pink inside — a dig at the American attitude of "the customer is always right" — it felt like a missed opportunity to give viewers a peek into all that France has to offer — food included. Writer Darren Star did it to hilarious effect in "Sex and the City," where he was able to parody New York's dining and club scene. It would've been nice to see him explore France's culture with the same depth.</p><p>That's not to say that when I first moved to London and Australia, I didn't come in with my own assumptions and ignorances. I thought England's cuisine was mainly tea and crumpets, that Sydney was just the land of avocado toast. </p><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris essay" height="954" width="749" msid="79224974" hostid="261"></div><p>Moving abroad was an education in regional cuisines and delicacies. When I spent a few weeks training in Northern England, I fell in love with Cornish pasties — warm savory pastries filled with meat or vegetables. I learned that a Yorkshire pudding has nothing to do with Jell-O (but is far more delicious), and that fry-ups cure a hangover far better than eggs Benedict. </p><p>In Australia I discovered laska, a spicy Malaysian soup I ate every Sunday at the restaurant right under my apartment. And don't even get me started on the snacks — I became obsessed with everything from cheesy Twisties to double-coated chocolate Tim Tams. </p><p>Food is such an essential part of understanding and connecting with a new culture. Would it have killed Emily to try some Camembert?</p><h2><strong>One area that Emily has no problem immersing herself in is the world of dating</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris" height="1176" width="1568" msid="79224976" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Before I can get into her many French dalliances, however, I need to touch on the ridiculous way that the show portrays long-distance relationships. </p><p>Like Emily, I have been in a cross-continent relationship and know how hard it can be to juggle time differences and intimacy. But I find it hard to believe that, when we have every country's clock accessible to us on our iPhone, Doug — Emily's boyfriend in the beginning of the show, whose entire personality seems to be "Liking The Cubs" — doesn't check before accidentally ringing her at 3 a.m. in Paris. </p><p>And while Doug didn't seem like much of a catch, it was strange that the show didn't spend even one scene showing Emily grieving the end of their relationship. I went through a breakup while living in Sydney and figured I could "Eat Pray Love" myself by backpacking along the East Coast. Instead, after a sweet boy at a hostel party tried to kiss me good night, I ran to the bathroom and cried. It doesn't matter if you're in the most beautiful city in the world. A broken heart is still going to hurt, at least for a little. </p><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris essay" height="1224" width="1632" msid="79224978" hostid="261"></div><p>Emily does a lot of dating, and the show captures some of the magic and excitement that comes with meeting cute strangers. Like Emily, I did find that men in London and Sydney seemed more emboldened to chat the minute that they heard my American accent. (Shoutout to the British guy who asked if I missed home and wanted to go to dinner with him… at TGI Fridays.)</p><p>Once again, though, "Emily in Paris" uses some lazy stereotypes to characterize a lot of Emily's experiences with men. They send her La Perla lingerie and offer to take her to Saint Tropez. One guy whispers that he loves "American p---" into her ear, while another goes from charming to wine snob in a matter of 24 hours. </p><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris_Netflix1" height="657" width="916" msid="79224980" hostid="261"></div><p>Dating abroad comes with plenty of complexities, but the show doesn't bother to touch on any of them. It doesn't even get the basics right: Not a single man asks Emily where in the US she's from, a question my best friend Kelly and I heard so often I knew the exact spot on her palm she used to map out her city in Michigan.</p><p>And while "Emily in Paris" tries — pretty unsuccessfully — to tackle differing opinions on #MeToo and political correctness, not a single guy that Emily dates asks about her own politics. Almost every person I met abroad asked what my opinion was on everything from affirmative action to gun control to police brutality. </p><div type="image" title="Emily in Paris essay" height="1140" width="1082" msid="79224982" hostid="261"></div><p>I know "Emily in Paris" isn't supposed to be a documentary on what it's like to be a young woman abroad. And I'll be the first to confess that I finished all 10 episodes in a day, desperate for some fluffy distraction after running out of seasons of "Love Island." </p><p>But this one doesn't hit the mark. You can still be fun and light-hearted without settling for easy clichés. You can still make cheeky references to stereotypes without sacrificing nuance.
