India's <keyword id="6355013" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tennis" source="Orion">tennis</keyword> campaign at the <keyword id="20006192" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paris-Olympics" source="keywords">Paris Olympics</keyword> lasted just one day as <keyword id="19926485" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sumit-Nagal" source="keywords">Sumit Nagal</keyword> and the men's doubles pair of <keyword id="19895238" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohan-Bopanna" source="keywords">Rohan Bopanna</keyword> and <keyword id="20253721" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="N-Sriram-Balaji" source="keywords">N Sriram Balaji</keyword> bowed out after losing their respective opening matches to French challengers on Sunday. Nagal was first to take court, but his strong baseline game didn't seem to be enough against mercurial Corentin Moutet, who earned a stylish three-set win. In his second appearance at the Olympic Games, Nagal bounced back after losing the first set but fell 2-6 6-4 5-7 in two hours and 28 minutes at a packed court seven at the Roland Garros. In the Tokyo Games, Nagal had lost in the second round to Russian Daniil Medvedev but could not make the most of a manageable opener today. He was up 2-0 in the decider with an early break but allowed Moutet to claw his way back and win. Later in the day, Bopanna and Balaji went down fighting 5-7 2-6 against Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Gael Monfils, who replaced injured Fabien Reboul in the home team at the last minute. India have won only one Olympic medal in tennis, when <keyword id="20346818" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Leander-Paes" source="keywords">Leander Paes</keyword> bagged a bronze in the 1996 Atlanata Games. Monfils' big-hitting helped the home team that was egged on by the partisan crowd. It was probably the last time Bopanna represented India in a multi-sport event. The 44-year-old has already announced his retirement from Davis Cup. The doubles match featured several fiery baseline exchanges between Bopanna and both the French players. The French ploy of engaging Bopanna in long rallies from the back took Balaji out of the picture on many points, and it largely denied the debutant opportunity of a quick finish at the net. The Indians dropped serve first when Bopanna went down 0-40 in game six following a long rally that ended with Indian team's unforced error. Bopanna and Balaji though got the break back in the next game on Roger-Vasselin's serve. Down by a breakpoint, Monfils could not put away a volley. The match was back on serve. Eventually, Balaji came out to serve at 5-6 to stay in the set. Feeling the nerves, he struggled to put first serves in and committed a double fault to get to 15-30. A long rally ensued, which ended in home team's favour. At second set point, Bopanna netted a backhand volley. Balaji could not hold serve in the second set, as Bopanna too stuggled to cope with the powerful strokes of the French players. The match ended with Indian team's unforced error. It has always been a battle of attrition between Nagal and Moutet with three of their last four outings being three-set affairs and it was no different today. Nagal had got the better of Moutet in their last meeting in Grand Prix of Hassan in the Moroccan city of Marakkech in April this year. Nagal didn't seem to have a plan B but Moutet had a few tricks in his bag to unsettle his rival. He served underarm a number of times and used the drop shots, the forehand slice and the backhand slice very effectively. The chants of Coco-Coco, Aaale-Aaale and Moutet-Moutet certainly gave the home player the energy required in such a slugfest. Nagal had a nervy start with a boisterous crowd behind Moutet. A drop volley error at 30-all put him down by a break point. Another unforced error cost him the opening game. The French player began with an underarm serve, much to the amusement of the home fans. He, however, ended up serving a double fault. It was an easy hold for the southpaw even as Nagal also bounced back with a hold at love. Nagal said he was expecting underarm serves from him but obviously didn't appreciate that. Moutet struggled a bit with his first serve but fed Nagal a lot of high balls and attacked his backhand more to build on the break. Nagal had his chances to get the break back in game four but squandered four breakpoints. He was down by another break point in game five but saved and held when Moutet just missed the line with his return. The crowd favourite again amused the gathered supporters at court seven as he crossed over the court to check the spot if the ball landed inside the line. It was crucial for Nagal to hold serve after falling behind 2-4 but he erred on overhead volley at breakpoint. Moutet pocketed the opening set when Nagal'a forehand return soared over the baseline. The second set was not a one-way traffic with Nagal finding his rhythm. The free points were not given. The set remained in serve till game five. After playing two deuce points, Moutet again served underarm, and this time he got the point as Nagal netted the return. Nagal was furious but the crowd loved the moment. Nagal finally had his first break of the match when Moutet's dropped shot crashed into the net. Before that on the second break point, when he netted the return, Nagal had banged his racquet on the court, letting go of the frustration. However, he gathered himself with the crucial break. The crowd stood and began singing the national anthem to egg on their favourite. Nagal though, consolidated the lead with a hold and levelled the match by breaking his rival in game eight when Moutet netted a volley return. The French player yet again resorted to giving high balls and drop shots to Nagal to break the momentum, and almost succeeded, but Nagal too stuck to his guns, avoiding an early break. He then broke Moutet when he double faulted while facing his fourth break point. Leading 2-0 in the decider, Nagal had a perfect opportunity to run away with the match but found himself down 0-40. He saved the first breakpoint but a drive volley error from him meant that the set was back on serve. Serving at 5-5, Nagal began by netting a forehand, and Moutet found a stunning forehand slice passing-winner on the run. Another forehand error put Nagal down by three break points. He lost fourth point in a row when he could not pick up a half volley. It was not difficult from there for Moutet to close the match. He will play either Australian world number six Alex di Minaur or Germany's Jan-Lenard Struff next.

Indian tennis icons Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi to tell their story in a docuseries

Off the court <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=leander+paes">Leander Paes</a> might well be 42 years old, but on the court he keeps proving time and again that he is ageless. 
 We’re talking about a man who won his third <keyword id="44798" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="mixed-doubles">mixed doubles</keyword> crown in a year (with Swiss veteran <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/What-The-Tennis-Legends-Of-The-Past-Look-Like-Today/articleshow/41444357.cms">Martina Hingis</a>. We won’t erase that fact, unlike BBC) and after this <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=US+open">US Open</a> win, he also becomes the most successful male <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tennis">tennis</a> player in the mixed doubles format. 
 
For our sake, let’s go over his achievements once again. As of now, Paes has won nine mixed doubles major titles and trails behind Martina Navratilova, who has ten titles to her credit. This comes after 25 years of sweating it out in a sport which has a modest following in the country he calls home. 
 There are no garlands from fans awaiting him at the airport when he returns victorious or the government awarding cash prizes in honour of him making the country proud at the world’s most prestigious <keyword id="6355013" type="SPORT" weightage="80" keywordseo="tennis">tennis</keyword> events. Neither is he provided a bus from where he can wave to the crowds assembled waiting to get a glance of him, nor does he have people waiting outside his house with placards. 
 
All of the above are reserved for a sport, often mistaken as the national and the only sport worthy of any adulation in the country- cricket. 
 
But, that doesn’t bother Paes. 
 
He has been slowly and steadily putting India on the global map as far as tennis is concerned, armed with his weapon- the racquet. 
 
It cannot be an easy journey for a player to excel at a sport which not only holds a secondary position in his country, but also has fans of the game rooting primarily for seasoned international players who’ve made their way to the top, aided by not just their talent but by world-class facilities and opportunities . 
 
But, again that doesn’t bother Paes. 
 
He ensures there’s a long list of firsts attached to his name. 
 Case in point- the fourth seeded mixed doubles duo of <keyword id="6371098" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Leander-Paes">Leander Paes</keyword> and <keyword id="6557911" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Martina-Hingis">Martina Hingis</keyword> is the first team since 1969 to emerge victorious in three of the four majors in a calendar year. 
 
Additionally, Paes has not just excelled in the mixed doubles format where his talents are complimented beautifully by Martina Hingis, his 24th mixed doubles partner, but has left his mark in the singles and doubles formats, as well. Apart from earning India a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Paes has also won eight men’s doubles grand slam titles. 
 
Achieving all this in a sport where he has to struggle to garner visibility owing to playing in a category that is not bestowed with the same kind of importance commanded by the singles title, is no mean feat. 
 
The stark difference between the prize money of the singles title and the mixed doubles is evidence. 
 
 
 
While <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Novak-Djokovics-Girlfriend-Is-The-Most-Intense-Fan-In-Tennis/articleshow/22191753.cms">Novak Djokovic</a>, the winner of the <keyword id="20485" type="SPORT" weightage="80" keywordseo="US-open">US Open</keyword> Men’s Singles title was rewarded with a whopping cash prize of 3.3 million dollars, with an extra 500,000 dollars just in bonus, Leander Paes and Martina Hingis together fetched a mere 150,000 dollars for winning the mixed doubles title. 
 
Paes however, plays on. 
 
Come to think of it, his contribution to the game assumes a sacrosanct role in the Indian context, wherein on one hand, he is leading the pack when it comes to Davis Cup while on the other hand, he’s battling it out in Grand Slams in order to be a force to reckon with. Both these developments come at a time when the fan-base for the sport is eyeing an increase. 
 
However, Paes doesn’t look like he’s anywhere close to being satisfied. His unflinching desire to represent India at the Olympics again and again is out there in the open. 
 
For someone who has made a fan out of Novak Djokovic himself, a trip to Rio De Janeiro next year doesn’t seem that far-fetched, does it?

If there is a report about an index going up by 30%, it’s not necessary that all stocks in that index would go up. If you are investing directly in the market, you should be a little more careful about the companies in the market. It might be that the market has come crashing down, but that doesn’t mean that stocks are cheap. There will always be companies, which have fallen 30-40%, but after the fall they would still be expensive. 
 
Most regular people who invest in retail, get confused between price and value of stocks. Big investors don’t commit these mistakes. It’s like you buy land and you pay a price on the basis of its value. Some years later, this plot gets connected to the main road or metro and the value goes up, so does the price. 
 
Talking about retail stock investors, they would buy stocks that are cheap. For say a stock costs Rs 5, they would go for it and not the one that is expensive, because the chance of Rs 5 stock to become Rs 10 is much probable than the expensive ones. 
 
How should one invest in crisis laden companies, something like <keyword id="6360721" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tatas">Tatas</keyword> is going through at present? 
 Most of the times, these kind of incidents are triggered by sentiments. There will be some kind of development and the market would react to that. It’s neither a knee jerk reaction nor a well thought one. In case of <keyword id="10958" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Satyam">Satyam</keyword>, there was a fraud. The company never made as much money as it claimed to be. Now for this company to regain the faith of investors was impossible. For companies, where there is a labour unrest or failure of a product, initially the stocks fall and sentiments turn negative but over longer period, it regains. There is a brisk market reaction. By and large, investments shouldn’t be a result of panic. 
 
The amount of profit you make at the stock market is directly proportional to the amount of risk you are willing to take. 
 
Why did you write the book? 
 
I have been tracking the market for two decades. When you meet people outside the stock market, most people don’t have any idea about how the system of stock market works. It’s very interesting. They have their own notion, which isn’t always right. There is also a good history of the market, which hasn’t been recorded anywhere – like how the evolution happened and how the changes took place over the last few years. So, I thought this could be a good book that explains, educates and entertains. 
 
I have pitched it as a kind of history book. Then when I was writing the book, I thought it would be better if it is narrated by somebody. So, I included my personal experiences of brokers and investors to make it a fun read. 
 
There are various stories, which you have spoken from a close perspective. Which story do you think aptly describes the stock market? 
Compared to the 80s and 90s, Indian stock market has grown to be a far safer place now. It’s far more transparent as far as the ordinary investor is concerned. You have access to information better than before. But having said that it’s far more difficult to make play for an outside game. 
 
Is there anything you thought you should have mentioned but skipped out? 
There are quite a few anecdotes. It’s generally felt that some of the individual investors or market operators as we call them are the sharpest. But even they have been taken for a ride by the promoters. It’s not that all big investors know everything. There are many stocks where they lose. It’s not because of their error or judgement, rather they were provoked by these promoters.

The third edition of the tournament was held from February 3-9 at Mhalunge Balewadi Stadium in Pune.In that edition, Jiri Vesely had emerged victorious in the singles, while the pair of Christopher Rungkat (Indonesia) and Andre Goransson (Sweden) won the doubles.Sutar said the world men's tennis body, ATP, has been having frequent discussions with its tournament directors around the world in an attempt to get the action back on the courts."Regarding the 2021 calendar, there have been a lot of discussions that are going on. Lot of communications are happening between ATP and Tournament Directors," Sutar said during an Insta live session with Indian tennis player Arjun Kadhe.Sutar is also confident of organising the fourth edition of the tournament but feels that the tournament may have to shift considering dates of Laver Cup, ATP Cup and Australian Open which overlap with TOM. All of 17, the player from New Jersey just wanted to win a match at the biggest stage in the junior circuit, but little did he know that he would be the last boy standing at the hallowed grass courts. And that too when he did not have his coach Carlos Esteban with him since his wife had reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. Up against compatriot Victor Lilov, the teenager won 7-5 6-3 in the summit clash that lasted one hour 22 minutes. He broke his rival thrice and dropped serve only once in the facile triumph. "It's going to be amazing, this trophy is going to be my centrepiece, I'm going to look at this and be inspired to keep playing and hopefully come back here as a pro," he was quoted as saying by the Wimbledon website. "I really just wanted to win a round, I didn't expect this. I had a tough French Open, lost to a good player. "So here I just wanted to keep my expectations low so that if I passed them, then I'd be happy. But this was way beyond my wildest dreams," he said to a round of applause from the crowd. Since the coach was unavailable, Banerjee 's uncle Kanad accompanied him. "My uncle is here, he's not technically a tennis coach, but if these results keep happening then I should start travelling with him more," he said jokingly. Mumbai, May 11 () Over 80 artistes, including megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Manoj Bajpayee, Ekta Kapoor and Shreya Ghoshal have come together for the track "Guzar Jayega", which aims at spreading hope amid the coronavirus pandemic.The anthem, narrated by Bachchan, also features comedian Kapil Sharma, producer Ekta Kapoor, actors Raveena Tandon, Sunny Leone and singers Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan. "These are testing and difficult times, we all have come together to instill hope and courage through this song "Guzar Jayega", we are in this together and this too shall pass, stay home and stay safe," Leone said in a statement.Shreya said nothing encapsulates the current emotions like Bachchan's voiceover in the video, which says, "It's just time, it shall pass." "We will have a plethora of emotions to indulge in, and realise there's always a greater sunrise after the darkest of nights. Bachchan, Sania Mirza, Manoj Bajpayee team up for motivational track amid coronavirus

New Delhi, May 4 () Indian tennis great Leander Paes on Monday stressed on the need to focus on learning new skills during the coronavirus-forced lockdown to keep oneself mentally and physically fit. Speaking at an Education Webinar for coaches, jointly organised by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Paes touched upon various topics including his junior days, transition to men's circuit, the role mental fitness plays in tennis, dealing with pressure, nutritional knowledge and coaching tips. "It is important to focus on learning new skills during the lockdown," Paes said on how to best utilise the time away from tennis action and keep oneself active and mentally fit. India has been under lockdown for more than a month now to contain the highly contagious disease, raising concerns about mental health of athletes. Talking about what keeps him going even at the age of 46, Paes said: "For me, the relationships that I have had through tennis are the things that I cherish the most. "Those relationships over generations are what's special," the 18-time Grand Slam champion was quoted as saying by AITA's official website. The Atlanta Olympic bronze medallist also went down memory lane and singled out RK Khanna and Anil Khanna for special mention. "When I started playing tennis, R.K Khanna was the president of the AITA. I would not be who I am today without Khanna because he actually helped me in the juniors, as a 14 or 15 year-old," he said. "He helped me get into the ITF junior team. At that point, my family could not afford all the international coaching. And after that, Anil Khanna, who was the president, took over the mantle of support." Paes also had a message for coaches who had joined the webinar. "Greatest joy you can have is to see your students do well at tennis. Use the sport as a vehicle to make them good human beings," he signed off. ATK AHAH

With big names dropping out and participating sports contingent pruned, will India have an impressive medal haul at the 2014 <keyword id="84384" type="SPORT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Asian-Games">Asian Games</keyword>? The question is on the minds of many Indians who are looking forward to carve a niche for their country at the Asian Games, also known as Asiad, to be held at Incheon, South Korea between September 19 and October 4. 
 
The current contingent of Indian team will have 679 members, who have been selected out of a list of 942 members. Among the members who will be in South Korea for the games include 516 athletes, and 163 coaches and support staff. 
 Will the medal tally improve this time around? The question gains significance for India since it is a member of the South Asian Zone of the <keyword id="98294" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Olympic-Council-of-Asia">Olympic Council of Asia</keyword> (OCA) and has been participating in games since its inception (in 1951). India is among the first five founding members of Asian Games Federation, and has successfully hosted the event on two occasions in the history of Asiad Games – the inaugural round in 1951 and then later in 1982. 
 
The country is also among the only seven countries that have competed in all Asian Games editions, apart from countries such as Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Thailand. 
 
It must be some relief that India has ‘at least’ one gold medal at every Asian game, and has been ranked within top 10 nations of the medal tally except in the year 1990. In all, India has bagged 545 medals across sporting segments over the years in Asiad games. 
 
Though India is confident of bettering record from Guangzhou event held last in 2010, financial concerns and off field controversies are bound to impact the overall performance of the participating sportspersons. 
 
The cricket-worshipping nation has always held other sports in somewhat less important level when compared to the passion with which Indians follow them. India has made significant stride in improving its medal position from eighth in 2002 and 2006 Asian games, to sixth in the last Asiad in Guangzhou. This in some way has rekindled hopes of Indian sports enthusiasts. 
 
Clearly encouraged by the success of medal haul in the last common wealth games, the Indian Olympic Association had proposed a huge contingent of sportspersons to participate in the upcoming Asiad. 
 <keyword id="63032" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sports-Authority-of-India">Sports Authority of India</keyword> (SAI) resisted this and sought Prime Minister office’s intervention to create a more affordable and achievable team that could participate in the games and improve medal tally. In other words, SAI only wanted names of those who were highly capable of winning medals than those who would use it as a platform to hone their skills. Intervention done, the team size was brought down. Officials accompanying the sportspersons were also scaled down thus making the team leaner and efficiency oriented one compared to previous years. 
Now, what’s lacking is the presence of ‘star players’ and those big Indian names that have become brands in their chosen areas. 
 
India’s shooters are in super shape and SAI is hoping they would largely contribute to country’s medal-tally at the Asiad. Seasons tennis stars such as Somdev Devvarman, Sania Mirza, Leander Paes, and Rohan Bopanna have decided to give the game a miss, leaving a huge question mark on the medal part. Sqaush ace Dipika Pallikal, who earlier exuded confidence of bringing home a couple of medals, also expressed her displeasure at some not-so-healthy selection criteria of the games with her game partner Joshna Chinnappa. 
 
Top wrestler Sushil Kumar who became a legend of sorts after his astounding victory at last the Olympics will also be giving the Asiad a miss owing to his rigorous preparation for the Olympics games to be held in 2016. 
 Apart from shooters, India will now have to focus on shuttlers to bring home some glory; all our hopes are now on top seed players <keyword id="30618" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Saina-Nehwal">Saina Nehwal</keyword> and <keyword id="501707" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="PV-Sindhu">PV Sindhu</keyword>. 
 
While the chief complaint against India’s poor performance in sports is dues to less exposure to international sporting circuits and events, along with poor training facilities, it still remains to be seen whether a leaner contingent with less burden of ‘officials’ will overtake Guangzhou in medal tally. If that happens, India would have learnt a smarter lesson and can have a better sports future.
