"And I was like, 'I'm going to ask her to be my girlfriend at this dinner on my birthday.'" </p><p>As the appetizers were arriving on the night of his birthday, Rogen asked his date whether she'd be his girlfriend.</p><p>"She said no, and then I started crying," he said. "Then, I was like: 'We need to eat. Like, we can't leave.' And she was like, 'It's your birthday.'"</p><p>He added: "And there was a cake coming and shit, so I had to sit there and this poor woman had to sit there with me as I wept into my truffle mac and cheese."</p><p>Rogen looked at it as a teachable moment.</p><p>"So if you're watching, kids, don't ask that," he said. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Bill Gates said that he used to think sleeping was lazy and unnecessary when he was younger. </li><li>The Microsoft co-founder competed with colleagues to sleep less than five or six hours a night. </li></ul><p>Bill Gates admitted to skimping on sleep during his prime years at Microsoft because he believed it was lazy and "unnecessary."</p><p>The Microsoft co-founder spoke about Alzheimer's and maintaining brain health with Seth Rogan and Lauren Miller Rogan in the first episode of his new podcast <a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/5qXIy5XyIKJxbfjuIFJjLk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Unconfuse Me</a>. </p><p>Gates, whose father died in 2020 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease, said he used to compete to sleep less with other colleagues at Microsoft. </p><p>He said: "In my thirties and forties when there would be a conversation about sleep, it would be like: 'Oh I only sleep six hours, and the other guys like: 'No I only sleep five' and 'Well sometimes I don't sleep at all,' and I'd be like: 'Wow those guys are so good. I have to try harder because sleep is laziness and unnecessary.'" </p><p>The billionaire has changed his tune about sleep since then and started tracking his daily "sleep score," he said. A sleep score is determined by the length and quality of your sleep and is something that can be tracked on an Apple Watch or a Fitbit, for example.</p><p>"Now what we know is that to maintain brain health, getting good sleep even back to teen years is super important," Gates said. "One of the most predictive factors of any dementia, including Alzheimer's, is whether you're getting good sleep," he added. </p><p>Rogan chimed in on the conversation by comparing attitudes to sleeping with smoking in the 1950s and 1960s, saying: "When I was young the convention was 'you'll sleep when you're dead.'" </p><p>He explained: "They used to think smoking is healthy. It is similar. That's where we are culturally – the things people think and understand about their own brains are where they were in the 1950s and 1960s. It's so far off from what actual science is reflective of." </p><p>Gates has even <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bill-gates-book-recommendation-why-we-sleep-matthew-walker-2019-12?r=US&amp;IR=T">taken tips from a book</a> called "Why We Sleep" by neuroscientist and sleep expert Matthew Walker, which he reviewed in his blog "<a href="https://www.gatesnotes.com/Why-We-Sleep?WT.mc_id=12_10_2019_08_EOYBooks2019_MED-media_&amp;WT.tsrc=MEDmedia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gates Notes" in 2019</a>. </p><p>"I routinely pulled all-nighters when we had to deliver a piece of software," Gates wrote in the review. "Once or twice, I stayed up two nights in a row. I knew I wasn't as sharp when I was operating mostly on caffeine and adrenaline, but I was obsessed with my work, and I felt that sleeping a lot was lazy." </p><p>The billionaire now aims to get between seven and eight hours of sleep a night. </p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Courteney Cox had to tell the director of "Scream" she "can be an absolute bitch" to land the role. </li><li>Before "Scream," Cox said she was known as the "girl next door" and "sweet." </li></ul><p>In the late 1990s, young actor Courteney Cox was most well-known for her girl-next-door characters, after breaking out in the Hollywood scene first as Lauren Miller in "Family Ties," and then as Monica Geller in "Friends."</p><p>Two years into her stint on "Friends," Cox landed another major role that would carry her career for the next three decades: Gale Weathers in "Scream." </p><p>But because of her reputation, <a href="https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/courteney-cox-friends-prince-harry-1235531048/">Cox told Variety</a> she had to appeal to the franchise's director in a rather odd way to secure the job. </p><p>"I had to talk to [director] Wes Craven and write him a letter and say, 'I know that you don't think of me as this person, but trust me, I really can be an absolute bitch,'" Cox told Variety. "It was over the top in the perfect way."</p><p>Cox just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ahead of the premiere of the sixth movie in the "Scream" franchise, which hits theaters on March 10. </p><p>"That's a really fun character, especially at the very beginning when she was so ruthless," Cox said of Weathers. </p><p>As for the other characters in the "Scream" universe, "You really care about the characters because they were unique, and you don't laugh at them, you laugh with them because they're smart," Cox added. As such, he said, he turned up to the event high on marijuana with his wife, Lauren Miller, only to find a much bigger production than he had expected.</p><p>"We pull up, and we see cranes, camera cranes — there's drones flying around. There's an entire crew there, and I'm like, 'Oh no, we are at the filming of a television special,'" Rogen said.</p><p>"And then me and my wife were like, OK, maybe we can just kind of, like, slink into the background, you know. Like, we'll just sit in the back, it's fine, you know — we're not equipped mentally to deal with doing this right now really. And so we go up to the desk, and they give us our tickets, and our seat numbers literally are 1A and 1B. Los Angeles, Apr 18 () Seth Rogen is having a blast while being in quarantine as the actor jokes that he has been practising self-isolation for many years.<p>During his virtual appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live", the 38-year-old actor shared his experience of being in quarantine.</p><p>"I've been built for this! We are not all in this together, because it has been great for me," Rogen quipped.</p><p>The actor also said that he has been smoking a "truly ungodly" amount of marijuana and indulging in his favourite hobby: pottery.</p><p> "So many of our friends wanted to do pottery, we got a literal third wheel, me and my wife. We have a kiln, we found a place that will deliver clay in this time of quarantine," he added.</p><p>Rogen, who is married to Lauren Miller, also joked that he doesn't have to deal with kids during this time. </p>"Again, the fact that I have no kids is making this truly not that bad. <p>"Thank you for the opportunity to testify today and for the opportunity for me to be called an expert at something," Rogen said in his opening statement, before chiding the committee chairman for never having seen Rogen's film "Knocked Up."</p>
<p>"First I'll address the question I assume many of you are asking," Rogen said. "Yes I'm aware this has nothing to do with the legalization of marijuana."</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Despite the lighthearted nature of his initial comments, Rogen quickly turned to how Alzheimer's had affected his family's life, although some humor made its way into his later comments on such a serious topic.</span></p>
<p>Nine years ago, Rogen began dating his now-wife Lauren Miller, who later admitted something was wrong with her mother Adele. She was diagnosed with the disease at just 55 years old.</p>
<p>Rogen's impression of the disease, he told the committee, was that it was something "only really really old people got."</p>
<p>"I thought the way the disease showed itself was in the form of forgotten keys, wearing mismatched shoes, and being asked the same question over and over again." </p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Instead, his personal experience was much different.</span></p>
<p>"After forgetting who she and her loved ones were," Rogen said. "She forgot how to speak, feed herself, dress herself, all by the age of 60."</p>
<p>Even before his testimony, Rogen had been highly involved in Alzheimer's outreach for several years, acting as a celebrity spokesman and fundraiser for the National Alzheimer's Association. He and his wife also started the non-profit <a href="http://www.hilarityforcharity.org/" target="_hplink">Hilarity For Charity</a> to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's <a href="http://www.hilarityforcharity.org/#!about-us/cy2g">among a younger generation.</a></p>
<p>"The situation is so dire that it caused me, a lazy, self-involved, generally self-medicated manchild to start an entire charity organization," Rogen said.</p>
<p>Rogen called on the committee and the government to take more steps in the fight against Alzheimer's, a disease with no cure and <a href="http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_what_is_alzheimers.asp">no treatment to stop it from progressing.</a></p>

Seth Rogen Gives Touching Personal Testimony To Senate On Alzheimer's Disease

<p>But the clock is ticking for the general public to convince Google that they're the right person for the Glass Explorer program. </p>
<p>Last week, Google started accepting applications for everyday people to join the Glass Explorer program. (Previously, only Google employees and a limited set of developers have had access to the gear.)</p>
<p>Anyone interested in testing out Glass has until tomorrow to post on Google+ or on Twitter what they would do if they had Glass. (The posts had to mention the hashtag, or keyword,  "#ifihadglass.")</p>

And <a href="http://www.nerve.com/love-sex/true-stories/true-stories-the-year-i-spent-as-a-phone-sex-operator">tongue-in-cheek articles</a> often emphasize the upsides of the job like flexible hours and the endless supply of funny anecdotes to share with your friends.</p><p dir="ltr">But a recent <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/35am3k/iama_phone_sex_operator_lets_talk_about_phone_sex/">Reddit AMA</a> with an unnamed phone sex operator reveals that, unless you truly love what you do, this job is not as rewarding as you'd hope.</p><p dir="ltr">The 25-year-old mom and wife writes that she holds an office job by day and works from home as a dispatch phone sex operator by night. While she says she loves what she does most nights, she also admits it's unlikely she could fully support herself with this job alone, so to make ends meet, she balances two jobs with motherhood and rarely has time for herself.</p><p dir="ltr">Here are some some of the questions and answers from her AMA that shed more light on what it's really like to be a phone sex operator. (<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">We've edited for clarity.)</span></p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How did you get hired?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. I did some searching online for phone sex operator (PSO) companies. I applied to two that I felt seemed legit. I got a call a few weeks later, had a phone interview, and they got me set up to start working the next night.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. What was the phone interview like?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. Not nearly as interesting as you'd think. It wasn't the backroom casting couch of phone sex. The lady pretty much just went through the contract with me, how they operate etc. She didn't ask me for any kind of demo, but she did ask me if I was comfortable with elements of BDSM, playing other ages, if I could do any accents, things like that.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How much does it pay?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. I get paid 30<span>¢ per </span>min for time that I am actually on the phone. On a typical night I make $20-$60, I could make more if I wanted to stay logged on longer but I have my day job too. It pays a bit better than my day job but the money isn't guaranteed (some nights are just slow) so I won't be quitting my day job.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How are the call times structured?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. We have per minute calls as well as blocks of calls. So if the dispatcher says a guy is a 5-40, that means I'm going to get paid for a minimum of 5 minutes. After that first 5 minutes it's per minute and they round up. So if we talk for 17 minutes and 20 seconds I get paid for 18 minutes.</p><p dir="ltr">The blocks of time are...well...blocks of time. If a guy pays for a 5-minute block and he's allowed to have 2 extensions, it means he's paid for the first five minutes. When it gets close to 5 minutes I ask him if he wants to extend. If he does, he's charged for the 7 minute block of time (the next block up), even if he hangs up at 6 minutes. The next block after that is 12 minutes. How long does the average call last?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. I'd say my average call is probably around the 20 minute mark. Of course I have some 3 hour calls and some 3 minute calls.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. Could you do this full time?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. You get more calls at night and on the weekend. If you were to do it during the weekdays I don't know how busy you'd be, but I know you do still get some calls. The tricky thing about it is that you're kinda waiting around for calls. You can't really get into anything you can't quickly get out of. Webcams do pay a lot more and I've been thinking about getting into that, but the level of work goes up quite a bit, too. I'd actually have to wear what I say I'm wearing.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. What are the job requirements?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. For my company at least you have to be 18, have to have a landline phone, you have to have internet connection and AIM installed, you have to have a clear phone voice, and you have to be willing to take the taboo calls. We're not allowed to hang up because someone is freakier than we like.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. What does a typical day look like for you?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. My typical schedule is spending the mornings with my daughter, then I take her to daycare and go to work until 7:30 pm. I come home and have dinner with my husband and our daughter, put her to bed, log in, then my husband and I hang out while I wait for calls. Usually we can manage to get in a little quality time between calls.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How do you balance having so little time for yourself?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. It's hard, I'll admit. The nice thing about being a contracted employee is that they can't tell you when to work. So if I want the night off I just send them a message saying I'm taking the night off. I don't usually work on the weekends unless I'm bored and want to make extra money. I'm stretched pretty thin some days.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. Are you open with the people in your life about your job?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. How does your husband feel about you talking to other men this way?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. My husband doesn't mind the talking, except that it interrupts our TV watching. He had to wait 40 minutes last night to resume the episode of Bates Motel we were watching. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">He isn't the jealous type and he knows that it's just a job.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Q. Will you ever tell your daughter about what you do?</strong></span></p><p dir="ltr">A. I will tell my daughter someday when she's old enough to understand it. I think how I explain it to my daughter will depend on her age. I think that explaining that mommy's job is to talk to people on the phone is a decent summary when she's young.</p><p dir="ltr">Honestly, my day job is in a call center so it's not really that different. As she gets older, if I'm still doing it, I'll explain more to her. I'm going to have to eventually explain sex, porn, all of that. I feel like this is just another extension of that.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How long do you plan on continuing this?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. I plan on doing it as long as it's still fun and I'm making money. It's really important for me that it's my choice to do it.</p><p dir="ltr">My husband had a bad habit for a little while of saying things like "shouldn't you clock in now?" or "We can't go do xyz, you have to do phone sex," and I nixed that really quickly. If it's not my choice, if I feel pushed into it in any way, I'll quit.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. What kind of callers do you usually get?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. An overwhelming amount of the guys I talk to fit into one of two categories. A) They are lonely and need some kind of connection. They need a woman to just laugh at their joke or listen while they talk. How do you handle callers who just want an emotional connection?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. It doesn't bother me to talk to the guys who want a connection. They tend to be a lot nicer than most. It's sad that talking to me is the highlight of their week for some of them, but I'm glad I can fill that role for them. It makes me feel more like a human being and less like a human fleshlight.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. Do you have favorite customers?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. My favorite customer is a guy in his early 40s who calls me pretty regularly. We usually talk for a while before we get down to sex and then when we do he is always really sweet about it. He has a great sense of humor and I think we'd actually make great friends in real life.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How about a least favorite?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. Least favorite customer isn't really a particular guy, more a type of guy, and I know them as soon as I get on the phone. He wants me to do crazy stuff ... then as soon as he gets close to finishing he just hangs up. These guys get the fake stuff. I'm not gonna get invested in someone who's going to hang up on me after four minutes.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. Has a customer ever gotten angry with you?</strong></p><p dir="ltr">A. I had a customer get mad at me because he said I was confusing him with another guy and he was mad I didn't remember him, but I take pretty detailed notes so that doesn't happen.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Q. How do you feel about your job?</strong></p><p>A. It depends on the night.
