Famous Indian sibling duos who made their mark

<ul><li>The Indian government will honour melody queen <keyword id="31278" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lata-Mangeshkar">Lata Mangeshkar</keyword> with ‘Daughter Of The Nation’ award on her birthday on 28 September. </li><li>Her song ‘aye mere watan ke logon’ dedicated to the martyrs of the Sino-Indian war moved the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru to tears. </li><li>She was awarded with the status of most recorded artist in the history of Indian music in Guinness Record in 1974. </li><li>Lata Mangeshkar was also honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in 2001.</li></ul>The Indian government is celebrating melody queen Lata Mangeshkar’s 90th birthday by bestowing a special honour — ‘Daughter Of The Nation’. Her birthday celebration will include the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/music/news/lata-mangeshkars-birthday-to-be-celebrated-with-a-special-event/articleshow/71275034.cms">launch</a> of the book ‘Lata’ and a day-long session of 91 Hindi-Marathi songs. She also sang the patriotic song ‘Ae mere watan ke logon’ in 1963 during the Indo-China war, which moved India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to tears. Miracle of God The Indore-born singer hails from a family of musicians and artists, has no plans of slowing down. She has been singing for the last seven decades and famously claimed to sing until her last breath. Popularly known as didi or sister, Mangeshkar kicked off her music career with a Marathi song ‘NaachuYaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari’ at the age of 13, five years before independence. Soon, her mellifluous voice mixed with talent brought her immense popularity also for being the singer who is “never off-key”. Famous actor Dilip Kumar once said that Latha’s voice is as spectacular as a God’s miracle. Her work spans across historic films like Mughal-E-Azam to popular hits like Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jaayenge, singing playback for actors from Madhubala to Kajal. She has been awarded with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in 2001. Her other achievements include <keyword id="100507" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Padma-Bhushan">Padma Bhushan</keyword>, <keyword id="15575" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Padma-Vibhushan">Padma Vibhushan</keyword>, and <keyword id="54010" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dadasaheb-Phalke-award">Dadasaheb Phalke Award</keyword>. Social media controversy The singer who resides at Peddar Road in Mumbai, has also been a part of her share of controversies. She was heavily trolled for her comments on the video of Ranu Mondal — a poor lady who sang on a railway platform to earn her living, saying she should be “original.” Lata who was known as a good luck for many decades in the industry, also shares a turbulent relationship with her equally famous sister, <keyword id="6441118" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asha-Bhosle">Asha Bhosle</keyword>, who is also a prolific singer. For one, Bhosle broker Lata’s Guinness record as most recorded artist in the history of Indian music, which she held since 1974. In 2011, Bhosle took over the mantle. The rift first started when Asha married Ganpatrao Bhosle, a man 15 years older to her. Lata once claimed that Bhosle stopped the two sisters from meeting. However, the marriage ended in a divorce but Lata and Asha’s relationship remained strained. During Asha’s struggling times in the industry, Lata also disapproved of Asha’s relationship with music director O P Nayyar. So much so that Lata stopped singing for Nayyar altogether. Movie producer Singing is her first love, but Lata has many other talents too. She had composed music for Marathi movies but was too conscious of giving her name to it, and chose to keep it under wraps, under a pseudonym. But the secret came out when the movies she composed for won an award for Best Music, requiring her to receive the recognition on stage. She told the story in a book called ‘Lata in her own voice’, adding that she was too busy recording that she could not focus on composing. She had also produced three Hindi films and a Marathi film. ‘Daughter of the nation’ Lata Mangeshkar turns 90 and here’s taking a look at her career of 77 years

<keyword id="6354700" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Anil-Kapoor">Anil Kapoor</keyword>’s 24, the adaptation of the American TV series with the same name, had been touted as a game-changer in the Indian television space. It had a popular first season and is currently on its way to the second. But it was not the first time when Indian TV got a significant makeover. Over the years, we had been watching serials and soaps that entertained, amused, surprised and even shocked the audience. Here’s a look. 
 
1. Hum Log 
Shown on the Doordarshan in 1984, this series marked the beginning of the television revolution in India while viewers had their first taste of soap. It lasted 156 episodes and several characters, including Basesar Ram, Bhagwanti, Nanhe, Badki, Majhli, Chutki, Lalloo and Imarti Dadi, became household names. 
 
2. Ramayan 
Those who were born in the 80s could well believe it when we say that the streets became empty on Sundays at 9.30 am as it was the time to watch the Ramayan. Starring Arun Govil as Ram, Deepti Chikhalia as Sita and Dara Singh as Hanuman, Ramayan is the world’s most viewed mythological series. 
 
3. Dekh Bhai Dekh 
If Hum Log mirrored the middle class Indian family, Dekh Bhai Dekh, produced by Jaya Bachchan, told the story of a rich, modern but loving joint family. It was one of the popular sitcoms, aired on Doordarshan’s GEC, DD Metro. Starting in 1993, the show ran successfully for 4 years. 
 
4. Flop Show Stand-up comedy and comic shows are the rage today. But this show never failed to minister a regular dose of laughter to its audience. It was written and directed by the legendary satirical comedian, late <keyword id="34752" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Jaspal-Bhatti">Jaspal Bhatti</keyword>, who also played the lead role. Flop Show was, ironically, a big hit. 
 
5. Swabhimaan Directed by <keyword id="6370367" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Mahesh-Bhatt">Mahesh Bhatt</keyword> and scripted by Shobha De, this show introduced the viewers to the world of complex relationships, infidelity, power, property entanglements and what not. It was the first show to complete 500 episodes in a span of 2 years. 
 
6. Meri Awaz Suno 
Those who stay glued to their seats to watch talent hunts like India’s Got Talent, Indian Idol, Voice of India and more, would be glad to know that it was a show on Doordarshan, called Meri Awaz Suno, which had helped discover the extremely talented Sunidhi Chauhan. The show was hosted by Annu Kapoor and judged by <keyword id="31278" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lata-Mangeshkar">Lata Mangeshkar</keyword>. 
 
7. Zee Horror Show 
Those who swear by the thrill of horror will remember the spine-chilling Zee Horror Show, which brought all things uncanny bang into our drawing rooms. Presented by the Ramsay Brothers, it was one of the most popular shows of the 90s. 
 
8. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (KSBKBT) 
The longest running show in the history of Indian television, KSBKBT introduced us to the glorious Gujarati family – Virani. It was the story of Tulsi and her endeavours to become an ideal wife, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and grandmother-in-law. Due to its domestic connect, it was the No. 1 show even in its eighth year. 
 
9. Kaun Banega Crorepati In the new millennium, mega star <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> became a part of your everyday life with Kaun Banega Crorepati. Based on the UK game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, this one started in 2005 and recently completed the 7th season. This show changed lives of many with big cash prizes.

Small Screen Shows That Changed The Face Of Indian Television In A Big Way

New Delhi, Apr 9 () Some of the biggest names from Indian music including Asha Bhonsle, S P Balasubramaniam and K J Yesudas are joining hands for a series of virtual concerts to express their solidarity with the people working at the forefront of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.The Indian Singers Rights Association (ISRA) announced that it will hold a three-day concert 'Sangeet Setu', starting from April 10 between 8 pm and 9 pm, with the aim to entertain the public and help them deal with the stress in these unprecedented times of lockdown. "The feed for the concert, dedicated to PM CARES, will be available on OTT platforms, Television, Digital and Social channels," the ISRA said in a release. The concert, blessed by nightingale of bollywood Lata Mangeshkar, has an impressive line-up of veterans Asha Bhonsle, S P Balasubramaniam, K J Yesudas, Udit Narayan, Anoop Jalota, Pankaj Udhas, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sudesh Bhosale, Suresh Wadkar, Talat Aziz, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Shanu, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Salim Merchant, Shaan and Kailash Kher, the ISRA said."ISRA decided that leading singers of the country will entertain the masses and try to lighten their stress, strain and depression in these tough times. I thank all the artists who have made themselves available for this national service," Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Tandon said.Moving Pixels Company, XP&amp;D and Be.live have partnered with the ISRA in this effort.MPC Creative Director, Manish Baradia said, "This is not just a concert series, it is a national movement. We want to take this concert to one billion screens."Speaking on behalf XP&amp;D and Be.Live, Sukrit Singh said "the O2O (Offline to Online) concert belongs to the nation - our feed is free for anyone who can get it to a screen. "We appeal to every OTT, TV or digital channel to stream the content for free and show solidarity with the current battle. The feed of the virtual concerts will be available on several OTT platforms including MX Player, Hotstar, Vodafone Play, Flipkart, Jio Tv and Sony Liv," Singh said. Singer Sonu Nigam said said the concert was their tribute to every Indian fighting against the coronavirus. "Every Indian be it an official, a health worker, an essential services provider or citizen at home - is contributing in this battle. Especially the mothers, home makers and sisters at home are bearing the burden and as artists we salute you through our music." Shaan urged people to tune in and donate in the times of crisis."We urge everyone to stay at home. With this initiative, we will be able to come to your homes and sing for the country. I urge everyone to donate generously to the PM Cares fund, as every single rupee counts," Shaan said."On behalf of ISRA we come together as a family to sing for you all to spread positivity amongst all of us in this dark phase bringing entertainment for enlightenment and cheer," Kher added.
