Revenues grew 60 percent year-over-year in 2012, the company said. 
That's sure to spur talk of an IPO—especially given the recent vogue for <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> companies in both private and public markets. Our sources tell us an offering <a href="http://go.bloomberg.com/tech-deals/2012-11-02-salesforce-com-competitor-sugarcrm-may-shoot-for-ipo-in-2013/">could happen in the second half of 2013</a> or early 2014.
CEO Larry Augustin wouldn't confirm that time frame.
Still, we know SugarCRM is hot. The company, which like larger, public rival Salesforce.com, offers software for managing customer relationships, is starting to sign some multimillion-dollar deals.
In April 2012, the company raised <a href="http://www.sugarcrm.com/newspress/sugarcrm-completes-33-million-financing-round-further-expansion-enterprise">$33 million</a> from investors, bringing its total to $79 million. Now it plans to go after more and larger customers, putting it on a collision course with Salesforce.com and Oracle.
Those companies outspoken CEOs, Marc Benioff and Larry Ellison, have actually helped SugarCRM, Augustin told Business Insider.
Both "are very vocal" about customer-relationship management, or <keyword id="200550" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="60" keywordseo="CRM">CRM</keyword>, and that's "good" because it "helps get publicity for everyone," Augustin said. "It's been fun to be part of that."
He also credits Benioff for "being in the CRM business when it was not sexy to be in CRM business."
That's an about-face from the company's early days, when SugarCRM pulled a Benioff-like guerrilla marketing prank against Salesforce.com.
Augustin, previously an angel investor and board member, became CEO in 2009. A few months after he took the top job, SugarCRM wrote a parody of Benoff's book "Behind the Cloud" and distributed at Salesforce.com's own customer conference.
SugarCRM called its book "Behind the Smoke Screen: The untold story of how Salesforce.com still manages to sell 1999 technology 10 years later."
The <a href="http://crmoutsiders.com/2009/11/19/sugarcrms-behind-the-smokescreen-campaign-a-huge-success/">prank generated a lot of press</a>. But since then, the book, which used to be published on the SugarCRM website, has quietly disappeared.

His executive team includes roles ranging from infrastructure management and software development to the head of its Twitch livestreaming service.<h2>The biggest changes</h2>One of the biggest changes from last year is the reassignment of Adam Bosworth, a former Microsoft and Salesforce executive who joined AWS in 2016. He no longer reports directly to Jassy, and is now under Larry Augustin, a software industry veteran who came to AWS last year. Augustin was most recently CEO of SugarCRM, an open source customer management software company. His experience running a software company will prove valuable for AWS as it looks to move further into the business application space - and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-web-services-neo-ai-open-source-2019-1">boost its appeal to open source developers</a>.Ariel Kelman, AWS's former marketing chief, has left <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/13/oracle-hires-aws-marketing-vp-ariel-kelman-as-new-cmo.html">earlier this year</a> to join competitor Oracle as its chief marketing officer. Emmett Shear, CEO of the Twitch streaming service, is one of his direct reports, as is Babak Parviz, who runs a <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/05/amazon-grand-challenge-moonshot-lab-google-glass-creator-babak-parviz.html">mysterious health-focused team</a> called Grand Challenge. Bing Gordon, a former board member of Amazon, is a strategic advisor for AWS, and is reportedly helping its "gaming-related efforts," according <a href="https://www.theinformation.com/articles/amazons-secret-weapon-in-gaming-ea-veteran-bing-gordon">to The Information</a>. Amazon's chief technology officer Werner Vogels also reports up to Jassy.Perhaps the most meaningful change, however, is the increased number of AWS executives sitting on Amazon's "S-team," a group of top leaders that advise CEO Jeff Bezos on key business decisions. Over the past year, two AWS executives, Garman and Peter DeSantis, have joined the S-team, making it a total of four members, alongside Jassy and SVP of Utility Computing Services Charlie Bell. Parviz was previously an electrical engineering professor at the University of Washington.Bing Gordon, Strategic AdvisorGordon is a strategic advisor for AWS, and is reported to be helping the company's gaming business. He stepped down from Amazon's board in 2017, and is currently the chief product officer for the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. Gordon also served as a long-time executive at Electronic Arts previously.Charlie Bell, SVP, Utility Computing ServicesBell, who's been at Amazon since 1998, is one of the most senior executives at the company. He was responsible for the early development of AWS's infrastructure team, leading a group of engineers across datacenters, network, and servers. He's one of the few S-team members from AWS.Elaine Chang, VP AWS Sales ChinaChang was named as AWS China's lead last year, succeeding Alex Yung. She's responsible for the region's sales, marketing, and engineering teams, and oversees AWS's relationship with the Chinese government as well. Chang spent nearly 20 years at Intel before joining AWS in 2013.Emmett Shear, CEO of TwitchShear is the founder of Twitch, the video streaming service Amazon acquired for $970 million in 2014. Meet the 14 most important executives at Amazon Web Services who report directly to CEO Andy Jassy as the $35 billion cloud faces an 'inflection year'

Seattle, June 25 (IANS) Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is the Cloud arm of Amazon, has announced a new Cloud-based service that allows customers to build powerful mobile and web applications with no programming skills required. Called Amazon Honeycode, the fully-managed service allows low-code or no-code software developers use a simple visual application builder to create highly interactive web and mobile apps backed by a powerful AWS-built database, to perform tasks like tracking data over time and notifying users of changes, routing approvals, and facilitating interactive business processes. "Customers have told us that the need for custom applications far outstrips the capacity of developers to create them. Now with Amazon Honeycode, almost anyone can create powerful custom mobile and web applications without the need to write code," said Larry Augustin, Vice President, Amazon Web Services. Amazon Honeycode is available today in US West (Oregon) with more regions coming soon, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. People who need apps to track and manage things like process approvals, event scheduling, customer relationship management, user surveys, to-do lists, and content and inventory tracking no longer need to do so by error-prone methods like emailing spreadsheets or documents, or hiring and waiting for developers to build costly custom applications. Using Amazon Honeycode, customers can create applications that range in complexity from a task-tracking application for a small team to a project management system that manages a complex workflow for multiple teams or departments. Customers can get started creating applications in minutes, build applications with up to 20 users for free, and only pay for the users and storage for larger applications. Applications built using Amazon Honeycode leverage the full power and scale of AWS, and can easily scale up to 100,000 rows in each workbook, without users having to worry about building, managing, and maintaining the underlying hardware and software. In Amazon Honeycode, customers can get started by selecting a pre-built template, where the data model, business logic, and applications are pre-defined and ready-to-use (PO approvals, time-off reporting, inventory management, etc.). They can import data into a blank workbook, use the familiar spreadsheet interface to define the data model, and design the application screens with objects like lists, buttons, and input fields, said AWS. New Amazon Cloud service to let no-coders build mobile, web apps

They're doing this by getting handfuls of angel investors involved, says Larry Augustin, a longtime angel and CEO of <keyword id="998204" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="SugarCRM">SugarCRM</keyword>, a maker of business-application software.
Huge seed rounds are driven in part by social networks like LinkedIn, he believes, because it's become so much easier to find angels or stay in touch with the ones you know.
While this sounds like good news, a large seed round "changes the dynamics of how those companies get built," Augustin told Business Insider.
Specifically, he said:

<li>With more angels giving money to the same company, fewer get personally involved, so there's less handholding.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Investors have higher expectations of the founders and how fast they can show success.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>When more funds are needed, a venture capitalist will want the business to be in good shape, commanding a high valuation, before it invests.</li>
</ul>
It's an interesting observation. A quick search on CrunchBase showed 65 seed deals of $1 million or more since the start of 2012.
There is an upside. With smaller investments spread over more people, more startups are getting funded.
That's good for "fostering innovation," Augustin says.
But, he adds, "My guess is that failure rates are going to be higher as well."
Augustin is both a former venture capitalist and a famous angel. He's been a big name in the open-source software world since founding SourceForge in the Internet bubble days.
He's funded lots of companies including SugarCRM before he became CEO. He's currently invested in and/or on the boards of startups like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-eyes-appcelerator-acquisition-2013-2">Appcelerator</a>, DotNetNuke, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/zenpayroll-joshua-reeves-2012-12">ZenPayRoll</a>. His previous startups include Pentaho, JBoss, and XenSource.

Reeves says it took him two weeks to raise the $6 million round. Each day was packed with eight or nine meetings. He started the process by reaching out to people he knew. It helped that he was going through Y Combinator, a notable startup accelerator program that has a strong alumni network. Reeves also had connections from Stanford, where he got his electrical engineering degree, and from Zazzle, a startup he joined as the 9th employee that now has hundreds of people.
Aaron Levie, for example, was a prior contact. Box's office used to be right next door to Zazzle's. Levie invested in a company called Karma; now Karma's CEO is one of Reeves' investors. Reeves also met Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman through Levie.
Once Reeves found potential investors, he still had to sell them. Reeves and his co-founders have attractive backgrounds; they've each started companies before and Reeves' last company was acquired. Reeves also used a compelling pitch deck to help share his mission with investors.

"I'm a big fan of having a deck," says Reeves. "Especially at the seed stage. It's how you present your story. You want to have a logical connection between different pieces of information."
Reeves also asked investors a lot of questions during the meetings. He says he interviewed them as much as they interviewed him to make sure they'd be a good fit for his company. 
Finally, it's important to have a product that solves a pain point investors can relate to. ZenPayroll is a cloud-based payroll solution that's cheap for small businesses to use and easier to navigate than ADP or Paychex.
"The people we raised money from invested because they want to vicariously fix this industry," says Reeves. "You could tell which of them had experienced the payroll pain themselves. That's the heart of why angels invest even when they are still doing their own startups."
So, how can other startups have the similar success nabbing star angel investors?
Reeves offers the following pitch deck to other entrepreneurs when they're raising their first round of financing. It's the template ZenPayroll used to raise $6 million.
"Each meeting is an opportunity to describe your vision, paint a picture of the future, share your progress so far and the quality of your team," he says.
