<ul><li>LIC Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL) shares jumped nearly 10% during the early trade minutes on Tuesday </li><li>On Monday, the company reported a 34% jump in its net profit to ₹817.48 crore for the quarter ending June 30.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/">Check out the latest news and updates on Business Insider.</a> </li></ul>One of India’s largest mortgage lenders, LIC Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL) shares jumped nearly 10% during the early trade minutes on Tuesday after the company reported a 34% jump in its net profit to ₹817.48 crore for the quarter ending June 30. <div type="image" title="Lic" msid="77734147" hostid="261"></div> Total income of the company rose 3.4% to ₹4,977.49 crore in April-June 2020. The growth was cushioned mainly by the lower provisioning. The provisioning in the last quarter stood at ₹56 crore compared to around ₹253 crore in the year-ago period, according to the company regulatory filing. “The rise in profit is mainly attributed to provisioning, which was lower in the quarter as compared to the last time (Q1 FY20). However, we have fully provided for whatever is required,” the company’s managing director and CEO Siddhartha Mohanty said. According to the first-quarter financial results, almost 25% of the company’s loan book is under moratorium as of June 30. The individual home loans under moratorium accounted for 16% of the home loan portfolio, and nearly 77% of its developer loan book is under moratorium as of June 30. LIC Housing Finance shares surge led by strong growth, Q1 profit rose 34% on lower provisions

Simply put, CRAR is a measure of how much capital the company has compared to the riskiness of its loans. If the borrower fails to repay, the capital would be the cushion to absorb the loss. And LIC Housing Finance fails to meet the RBI threshold on this count. The capital adequacy ratio has been 14.4%% for the company in the last two financial years and 14.5% for the first half of the current one, the report said. The way out of this is that the company can raise money from the market to boost this figure past the 15% mark, and then, shareholders can expect a dividend. M&amp;M Financial, on the other hand, doesn’t make the cut on RBI’s benchmark for paying dividend because the amount of bad loans on its books is a little more than what the regulator likes. The circular has set the threshold at 4% while M&amp;M Financial has a net NPA (non-performing assets) of 4.7%. However, if the firm is able to recover enough loans by March 2021 to bring the metric below 4%, dividend may be back on the table. In the year before COVID-struck, the one ending in March 2019, the company paid a handsome 25.7% dividend to shareholders. On the other hand, in a statement to Business Insider, M&amp;M Financial stated “As per the circular, RBI has proposed a twin matrix of CRAR and NNPA and accordingly specified 4 categories based on a combination of both. CRAR of MMFSL has been above 18% for the last 3 years. Hence, the company will fall in Category B as per the matrix. Secondly, MMFSL’s net NPA at the end of September 30 was 4.7%, based on which our permissible dividend payout ratio is ‘up to 20%’,” the company said. This is not the first time the spotlight has fallen on M&amp;M Finance’s chunk of bad loans. The pandemic has only increased the risk of defaults and therefore the company too has been aggressively setting aside money to cover the losses if they occur. “As we progress, the next six months, which is normally the good six months, we would not see a decline in the gross NPA, and we will maintain our stance on aggressive provisions… if we start seeing things are not improving as we think, then we may take higher provision, whichever is necessary,” Vice Chairman and Managing Director Ramesh Iyer told Business Insider <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/mahindra-and-mahindra-finance-managing-director-gets-candid-about-the-rights-issue/articleshow/77212386.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">in an exclusive chat in July 2020</a>. How RBI's proposed restrictions may affect your dividends

New Delhi, Feb 17 () Life Insurance Corporation on Monday said there is no proposal to merge its subsidiary LIC Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL) with any other entity. The statement came after some reports suggested that insurance behemoth LIC might expedite the process of merging LICHFL with its banking arm IDBI Bank. "There was absolutely no proposal to merge LICHFL with any other entity and all such rumours floating in the market are not based on facts," LIC said in a clarification. IDBI Bank in a separate filing clarified that no such proposal has been discussed in its board meeting. Shares of the LICHFL tanked more than 10 per cent in day trade on BSE after the reports. The scrip settled down by 7.71 per cent at Rs 380.30. IDBI shares also declined by 2.54 per cent to end at 34.50. IDBI Bank, in which LIC holds 51 per cent stake, had reported widening of its standalone net loss to Rs 5,763.04 crore due to higher bad loans. The lender had posted a net loss of Rs 4,185.48 crore during the corresponding October-December period of the previous fiscal year. The bank witnessed high proportion of bad loans, with gross non-performing assets (NPAs) at 28.72 per cent of the gross advances at end of December 2019, little lower than 29.67 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Axis Bank Axis Bank on Monday said it would acquire 17% stake in Max Life Insurance instead of the 29% proposed earlier as per a revised deal. Axis Bank currently holds about 1 per cent stake in Max Life and is the biggest banking channel partner for the distribution of the insurer’s products. Products sold through the bank reportedly account for 54% of Max Life’s revenues. The shares of Axis Bank ended 2% higher on Monday. GMR Infra GMR Infra board to consider raising of funds of up to ₹5000 crore in one or more tranches, through the issue of securities as an enabling resolution as per the requirements of applicable laws which shall be subject to the approval of shareholders. LIC Housing Finance Mortgage lender LIC Housing Finance reported a 34% jump in its net profit to ₹817.48 crore for the quarter ending June helped by lower provisioning. The total income of the company rose to ₹4,977.49 crore in April-June 2020 from ₹4,807.21 crore in the year-ago quarter, according to a regulatory filing. The shares of LIC Housing Finance ended nearly a percent lower on Monday. JSW Energy JSW Energy said that its Executive Director Jyoti Kumar Agarwal, who is also the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has tendered his resignation and will step down with effect from September 15. In a regulatory filing, the company said that Agarwal has decided to pursue career opportunities outside the company. The shares of JSW Energy ended 2% lower on Monday. Indian Energy Exchange Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) on Monday said its board of directors had accepted the resignation of its Managing Director and CEO Rajiv Srivastava. Mumbai, Feb 14 () Mortgage lender LIC Housing Finance on Friday said it has identified 14 projects to be referred to the alternative investment fund (AIF), set up by the government for last-mile funding, a top company official said.The housing finance company is the sole lender to these 14 real estate projects and has a total exposure of Rs 1,400 crore to them.In an effort to boost the ailing real estate, the government in November last year had approved setting up of a Rs 25,000 crore bailout fund.The government said the AIF will act as a 'special window' to provide loans to over 1,600 incomplete affordable and middle-lower income housing projects. The fund is managed by SBI Caps."We have some 14 projects (eligible) for the alternate investment fund created last year. We have advised those developers to be in touch with SBI Caps and the process has started," LICHFL's managing director and CEO Siddhartha Mohanty told reporters after launching its mobile app.He said all these 14 projects need last-mile funding.LICHFL on Friday said it has adopted google cloud to power its next generation digital mobile platform and serve the needs of home loan applicants.The mobile application provides instant eligibility for pre-approval home loan based on the KYC and other data provided by the applicants.In the quarter ended December 31, 2019, LICHFL reported a flat profit after tax at Rs 597.53 crore due to higher provisioning of Rs 390 crore for bad loans.Its net profit in the year-ago period was Rs 596.31 crore.During the period, the stage 3 exposure at default or NPAs increased to 2.73 per cent as against 1.25 per cent in the same period last year. LIC Housing Finance identifies 14 projs for alternative investment fund

The mega IPO of Life Insurance Corporation of India (<keyword id="6367143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lic" source="Orion">LIC</keyword>) will be out by the end of the current fiscal, a senior Central government official said on Monday. According to Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), the IPO plan is on course. "Some media speculation doubting the feasibility of <keyword id="7922409" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lic-ipo" source="Orion">LIC IPO</keyword> this fiscal year is not correct. It is reiterated that plan is on course for the IPO in the last quarter of this fiscal," the Secretary tweeted. The IPO is expected to become the biggest one in India and it may fetch the government around Rs 1 lakh crore. Post the Union Budget FY22, the government has taken several legislative and executive steps to pave way for the mega IPO. However, Reliance’s large distribution network, customer base and deep pockets will benefit Jio Financial Services, according to Jefferies. The company’s network of over 15,000 stores across several formats (supermarkets, digital stores, etc.) and a vast customer base of more than 400 million in telecom and over 200 million in the retail segment could give JFS a large customer base to bank on. “Unlike other fintechs, JFS will have a large balance sheet, not be asset-light and eventually manufacture most product offerings, giving it a significant competitive advantage, in our view,” the Jefferies report added. As of now, only six large non-banking financial companies (NBFC) have the AAA credit ratings – HDFC, Bajaj Finance, LIC Housing, Tata Capital, Aditya Birla Capital and HDB Financial. Other factors include highest capitalisation amongst large NBFCs, large distribution footprint thanks to Reliance, and the ability to attract top talent thanks to its parent being one of the largest conglomerates of India, according to the report. The last part has already played out – KV Kamath has been appointed as an independent director on the board of Reliance Industries, and the non-executive chairman of Reliance Strategic Investments, which will house JFS.
