LG Electronics India celebrated its 18th anniversary today with its LG Life’s Good Happiness Study. 
 
The Korean electronics brand arrived in the country in January 1997, and has expanded its products base to segments across consumer electronics, IT hardware and mobile communications. 
 
The event was graced by Managing Director Soon Kwon, Chief Marketing Officer Niladri Datta and TV Star Mandira Bedi. 
 
“We believe in making consumer experience more seamless and enjoyable. There’s a continuous endeavor from our side to innovate, and design products Indians love”, Niladri Datta, Corporate Marketing Head, LG Electronics India said.

LG Electronics just turned eighteen in India

The company has also unveiled its much anticipated rollable Signature R OLED TV at ₹7,500,000. "The unique offerings of our latest lineup demonstrate our perseverance to deliver differentiated user experience and a new way of thinking about our consumer's home entertainment space while once again confirming LG's leadership in the premium TV market," Hak Hyun Kim, Director- Home Entertainment, <keyword id="135696" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="lg-electronics-india" source="Orion">LG Electronics India</keyword>, said in a statement. "OLED TV portfolio is expanded to address various segments of consumers and with our new line up we are confident of strengthening our market leadership in OLED TV," Kim added. The company said the 2022 OLED lineup has introduced the widest range of OLED TVs, from the OLED 246 cm (97-inch) extending to the 106 cm (42-inch) OLED TV. In addition to this, LG also introduced the LG OLED evo in their C2 series. LG OLED evo TVs offer exceptional clarity and detail, for lifelike images that provide a real lifelike experience, the company added. Housed with the latest processor to boost audio quality via the AI Sound Pro feature, the company mentioned that Alpha 9 Gen 5 AI processor will allow OLED TV to up-mix 2-channel audio to a virtual 7.1.2 sound allowing users to hear sound from above and behind. LG’s rollable OLED TV finally debuts in India, priced at ₹75 lakhs

<keyword id="6356116" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG">LG</keyword> announces the first made in LG phones and Noida manufacturing plant from where about 1 million smartphones will be batched out in the first phase. But in a country where connectivity is the main problem, LG too perceives it as the main challenge. “Challenges per if I say is all about how our consumers perceive things. We will launch 4G but do they have that facility to experience it all,” said Amit Gujral, head of Marketing, <keyword id="61562" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG-Electronics">LG Electronics</keyword> India Pvt Ltd. 

	“Our dream of connectivity lies in mobile phones... Private investments with policies have led to the boom of the IT industry. But the best is yet to come through data revolution. The combination of smartpones and internet is the perhaps the biggest game changer in the innovation of the industry,” said J S Deepak, Secretary, Department of telecommunication. He added that India today is the best place to manufacture devices and in a couple of years we will become one of the largest manufacture hubs of mobiles in the world.
 

	At a place where Chinese smartphones is dominating the market and have already set up their base for manufacturing in India, Korean brand LG is just entring the niche market. How do they plan to enter the competition?
 

	“Who decides the continuity is the consumers,” was all Amit had to say to the question.

Government needs to ensure last mile connectivity soon for LG to start manufacturing in India smoothly

New Delhi, Mar 31 () To help authorities and people increase preparedness against Covid-19, electronic majors Samsung and LG have pledged to offer products and protective equipment like surgeon gown, face masks, glove, refrigerators, water purifiers, among others, to hospitals. LG Electronics India on Tuesday said it has also partnered with Akshaya Patra Foundation to sponsor one million meals to migrant labourers and daily wage workers, who are struggling amid the 21-day lockdown in the country. "With the rise in confirmed cases of COVID-19, LG has taken a pledge to support India's fight against the pandemic. LG is committed to offer active support to people in need in this current situation," it said in a statement. LG Electronics India will donate products like water purifiers, air conditioners, refrigerators and TVs to the hospitals for their quarantine/isolation wards, covering 50 state and district hospitals across the country. Samsung India, on the other hand, will provide preventive kits to hospitals, which includes a surgeon gown, face mask, gloves, preventive eye wear, hood cap and shoe cover. It will also provide infra-red thermometers and public addressal systems that can be used by the authorities at hospitals and other facilities, along with air purifiers in medical facilities. The India unit of Samsung said it will also support local police by providing cooked food packets to local communities around its manufacturing facility. "Samsung is committed to work together with the people of India in this hour of difficulty. Over the last few days, our teams have engaged round-the-clock with various governments, local authorities, and healthcare professionals to prepare a broad and meaningful strategy to win this battle together," Samsung India in a statement. COVID-19 infection, which originated in Wuhan in China, has spread across the world and claimed around 34,000 lives. Countries like South Korea, Spain, Italy, Iran and the US have been badly hit. In India, the total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 1,251, while the death toll touched 32. To combat the spread, the government had announced a 21-day lockdown that ends on April 14. Corporate India has been rushing in to help the government and citizens fight the covid-19 pandemic in India. Tata Trusts &amp; Tata group together have pledged Rs 1,500 crore - by far the highest by any corporate. Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani has also committed a further Rs 500 crore to the Prime Minister's COVID-19 fund, topping up over the multi-crore initiative of India's first coronavirus hospital, meals to the needy, and fuel to emergency vehicles. Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, has committed Rs 100 crore, while a number of other companies are also extending support efforts towards fighting COVID-19 in India. "In these precarious and uncertain times, LG India believes in helping and supporting the Government &amp; citizen of India with a meaningful contribution. Our initiative is designed to help those in need and contribute to society, at this critical juncture in a positive way. LG announces new 2020 Smart TV line-up starting at ₹14,990

LG today announced the launch of first <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Major-boost-for-Make-In-India-as-LG-installs-production-unit-in-country/articleshow/51725614.cms">made-in-India </a>LG smartphones K7 and K10. LG’s first manufacturing plant will be set in Noida, said Amit Gujral, head of Marketing, LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd. 
 
“1 million smartphones will be manufactured fropm this plant,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister Communications and IT, Government of India. 
 
K represents the kinetic energy in young enthusiastic India, said Amit. The phones will have a scratch proof, back cover, LG’s popular Gesture Shot and Gesture Interval Shot for hassle free selfie experience. The 5.3 inch K10 has 13 MP on the rear and 5MP on the front while 5 inch K7 has 5 MP rear and front both. K7 and K10 have 1.5 G and 2 GB RAM respectively. They support 4G LTE+VoLTE and VoWifi. 
 
“I request LG to make the design in line with the Goverment’s Make in India initiative,” said Pankaj Mahindroo, founder and President , Indian Cellular Association. 
 
K7 and K10 is priced at Rs. 9500 and Rs 13500 respectively.

LG launches new laptop series with innovative features in India

<keyword id="61562" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG-Electronics">LG Electronics</keyword>, the South Korean multinational electronics company, has set up its first manufacturing unit in India, where it would be manufacturing India-specific smartphone models, so that it can benefit from the fast-growing market. 
 
LG has already signed an agreement with GDN Enterprises, which is a part of New Delhi-based Optiemus Group, for manufacturing these models. Trial production has been started with two models, while expansion to include more models is in the pipeline. 
 
Optiemus Group, which already currently manufactures for HTC and Oppo, will be setting up a new plant under a joint venture with Taiwan's leading contract manufacturer Wistron. 
 While giving a boost to the <keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make In India</keyword> campaign of the Indian government, LG too would get a price edge, given that duties and taxes will come down by more than 10%. The move is also aimed to bring LG back to the <keyword id="1034848" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-smartphone-market">Indian smartphone market</keyword>, a major share of which has been lost. 
 "The business has been a poor performer due to poor product portfolio. We will revamp the portfolio from this month. Our products are superior to competition which we will focus through experiential marketing," <keyword id="188506" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG-India">LG India</keyword> managing director Ki Wan Kim said. 
 
For a long time now, LG has been leading the Indian market in refrigerators, washing machines and microwave ovens; it has also branched into flat panel televisions so that it doesn’t only depend on home appliances segment. 
 
Now it looks forward to rebuilding the smartphone business where it had failed to attract much customers despite several attempts. 
"We will pursue to make LG a premium brand in India. The effort is to develop products based on consumer insights. While for existing categories we will focus on energy efficient products, we are also evaluating air and water purifiers as next growth areas," Kim added.

If you needed a new TV, you should have considered buying one last week. As GST has been rolled out starting last Saturday, televisions are getting costlier. A visit to the electronics stores in your vicinity would establish the fact. TV manufacturer <keyword id="6356116" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LG">LG</keyword> has already hiked the price of its LED range. Dealers informed the ET that LG is the first among consumer durable makers to hike television (TV) prices. From LG LED televisions, LG Smart LED sets to LG UHD LED sets, dealer prices have increased in the range of 1.3 to 7% in the western region. In Delhi/NCR region, prices have gone up marginally by under 2%. Confirming the development, Vijay Sales, managing partner, Nilesh Gupta told ET, "LG has set the trend for price increases. This is on expected lines." Not just LG, <keyword id="6367990" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Panasonic">Panasonic</keyword> will increase the price of TVs and white goods such as refrigerators and microwave ovens soon. "The quantum is still being worked out and will be finalized by the end of this week,” Ajay Seth, Director of Sales &amp; Service at <keyword id="207192" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Panasonic-India">Panasonic India</keyword> told the ET . Sources said the impact can be between 3-4% on the existing retail prices. <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, on the other hand, said prices are not being increased immediately. However, industry and trade sources said the Korean electronics maker had increased the prices of white goods by 1-2% before the announcement of GST.

<ul><li>In our latest series, we talk to brands about how they have been <keyword id="6354839" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing">marketing</keyword> during these adverse times, the things they have learnt and how they are preparing for the somewhat uncertain future.</li><li><keyword id="6354991" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="vijay-babu">Vijay Babu</keyword>, VP - Home Appliances, <keyword id="135696" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LG-Electronics-India">LG Electronics India</keyword> tells us how there has been a surge in the demand for the brand's home appliance products as people have been staying at home and trying to find a balance between house work and office work with the help of products like washing machines and dishwashers.</li><li>He is also optimistic about a good sell-out during the festive season due to the increased relevance of products that help in strengthening people's health and hygiene.</li></ul> The lockdown, while has had the obvious impact on our lives, has also had some indirect impact on a lot of businesses. For example, the fact that we are all stuck at home has led to more consumption of content on TV and OTT platforms. Meanwhile, considering we are all working from home, demand for home office setups and even mattresses are seeing an increase. With gyms shut for business, people are working out at home, thereby leading to an increase in demand for the athleisure category too. Something similar has happened with LG Electronics too. Since the lockdown has made willing or unwilling multitaskers out of all of us, the demand for dishwashers and washing machines, categories that make our daily existence easier, have seen an increase. Since the lockdown is slowly being lifted, brands are witnessing the impact of pent-up demand. Even for LG, their home appliance range has witnessed an increase in demand in the past few weeks. We recently caught up with Vijay Babu, VP - Home Appliances, LG Electronics India to understand the kind of business impact the lockdown had on the brand and how they are working towards strengthening their place in the hearts and minds of the customers. Excerpts: Q) Considering the complete closure of retail outlets, malls, manufacturing units etc., what kind of impact has there been on LG's business in the last few months? The onslaught of the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> <keyword id="43587" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="pandemic">pandemic</keyword> has had a major impact across the economy in all sectors, while rapidly spreading across the world without any regard for national borders, class, gender, or communities. In these times, brands are facing the brunt of adapting to the ‘New Normal’ in a very short span. At LG Electronics surprisingly our customers have been by our side and in fact, working from home has led to rise in sales for our home appliance range. The two key factors behind this rise in demand, has been the onset of summer- leading to the need for compressor products like air conditioners etc. The lockdown has also ensured multitasking as a necessity for various working professionals. For them, a dishwasher or washing machine have become essential to balance household chores along with professional duties. In the last month, the economy has slowly opened through limited restrictions from the government. This has led to a major rush in purchases from the pent-up demand of the last few ‘lockdown’ months, as seen in June. However, a lack of liquidity in the economy is still prevalent cause of concern and we hope to assist our customer base in every way possible, till the economy comes back to normal. Q) What kind of festive season are we looking at this year? Do you think <keyword id="1549018" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="consumer-sentiments">consumer sentiments</keyword> will turn and people will buy during the festive season? This year is expected to be different than others, due to the pandemic. It is also affected by the economic repercussions from it, leading to restricted incomes for several families. However, consumer sentiments have been changing drastically in the last few months, it is too soon to predict how the festive season will be in terms of consumer demand. However, considering the unique Health &amp; Hygiene benefits offered by LG Appliances, and their increased relevance and significance in the current scenario, we are extremely confident, for a good sell-out during the festive season. Q) As a brand, what kind of changes are you anticipating in consumer behavior? How are you working on embracing these changes and working around them? People are living differently, buying differently and in many ways, thinking differently. In fact, their way of looking at a product while buying it has also completely changed and the new habits created is expected to transcend crisis, permanently changing the consumer decision making process. In the consumer durables industry, we are already observing a change in consumer behavior. Various surveys have indicated that consumer durables remain a top priority on the purchase list post-lockdown. There is a demand for bigger capacity appliances with larger storage to have better stocks, especially in washing machines &amp; Refrigerators.Consumers are also interested to know the origin of products; they are looking for products manufactured in India. We have seen a good demand among customers for refrigerators this 2020 season. In fact, the twin drivers for the refrigerator market are ‘Enough Storage’ and ‘Ensure Hygiene’ of the stored Items. Features such as water and ice dispenser on the outside or a small home bar compartment; number of shelves in refrigerator; maximizing the storage in door for frequently required items have been in trend with our consumers this year. Steam function in washing machine &amp; dishwashers is preferred by consumers as they want to be sure about hygiene aspect. Q) Were there any interesting consumer trends during the lockdown that perhaps you did not anticipate? Any product vertical that saw a sharp increase in demand? Do you think demand for segments like dishwashers and vacuum cleaners will continue to see an increase in the post-Covid world? We have seen a huge jump in dishwasher sales; in the future, we predict an increase in consumption of vacuum cleaners &amp; dishwashers as people continue doing their own chores. Televisions have also seen a major growth in demand, due to the attraction to home screens for indoor entertainment. Consumers are also preferring ‘Made in India’ products in accordance to the government’s ‘VOCAL FOR LOCAL’ campaign becoming a significant driving factor. According to a Nielsen survey, 28% consumers in 12 cities across the country are open to the idea of buying a home dishwasher or microwave among other home appliances in the next few weeks as the country wakes up from the lockdown. This is valid even as all other additional expenditures including going on a holiday, buying a vehicle like a car, or renovating the house, has been put on hold. We are predicting a pent-up demand for home appliances in the next few months and have been preparing for it to provide customers easier ways to get access to our products through digital e-commerce platforms or through our sanitized retail shops. Q) The summer demand for products like ACs would have seen a major hit due to the lockdown. Are there chances of a recovery in terms of sales in the remaining part of the year? Yes, at the onset of the pandemic we found a dip in our summer product sales. However, this trend did not continue for long, partly due to opening of the economy as well as the summer heat. In fact, we had 10-day period in May when the AC sales shot up three folds and even in June, we have witnessed the same trend especially in the Northern Region. Henceforth, we are positive that the demand for white goods like air conditioners will continue to improve despite the pandemic. Q) It is important for brands to stay connected with consumers even during adverse times. How did you ensure that connect during the lockdown? What kind of communications did you put out? Safety is an essential concern for all, and the ‘touch and feel’ part in the consumer buying process might be reduced significantly at this juncture. Henceforth, customer engagements through digital platforms have become the norm to communicate key messages. At LG Electronics, our social media channels and website have been the biggest platforms for us to communicate unique product benefits to our audience. Not only this, we have also posted DIY (Do It Yourself) videos for repairing productsas well as options for pre-booking products. These engagements were taken ahead with the motive to help existing customers, who can order a home repair session from us as well as new customers who might be interested in our products but cannot avail it due to the lockdown. Q) Did your overall media mix change during the lockdown? Will it change again, in the post-Covid world? During the lockdown, the media mix has consistently veered towards online media. We have tried to create engaging content which can cheer up people’s spirits; for example, on Mother’s Day we created a video to salute COVID warriors. The same received a significant amount of traction in media and audience. A healthy media mix is important to a brand, to increase the reach of communication; in the post-COVID world, we will see an integrated media approach. As a brand, we must wait and watch where the media trends take us. However, since consumer behaviors are shifting towards the ‘new normal’ where safety is prioritized, we believe digital platforms will become the new norm. Q) What were your key learnings from this experience? We are celebrating our 23rd anniversary in India this year and over the course of these years we have strengthened our market leadership due to a strong product portfolio developed through customer insights in India. This pandemic has brought us closer to consumers and thus, our key learning has been offering solutions as per consumer’s needs; Home Appliances were a key priority for them and we have designed various programs to reach out to consumers both in terms of new product delivery &amp; service of existing products.As a brand, we hope to be empathetic as we create products to help our customers move on from the trials and tribulations of this pandemic and get used to a ‘New Normal’.

We're changing very fast," LG Electronics President and CTO I.P. Park said in an interview with Business Insider earlier this week. "I'm dressed sort of semi-casual. When I go to my CTO organization in Korea, we wear casual 100%.""We don't wear ties anymore. Even if I go to the LG Electronics headquarters office, we don't wear ties, which means that our culture is evolving very fast," he continued. Park is leading the charge to put more emphasis on R&amp;D and software. He's been overseeing an expansion of LG's artificial intelligence labs in countries around the world. "If you were to visit LG five years ago, everyone was wearing ties. Meeting culture and everything was much more traditional.
