The party also flipped control of both houses of the Michigan legislature, and a referendum enshrining reproductive rights into the state Constitution was approved by voters.Still, despite the Democratic wins, the state's 15 electoral votes have been a sought-after prize for both parties in 2024.A major caveat: Biden has faced enormous pushback from the state's Arab American community over his handling of the conflict in Gaza, which led more than 100,000 Michiganders to vote "uncommitted" instead of selecting the president in the March Democratic primary. It remains unclear how these voters will respond to Harris' candidacy.<h2 id="662fa2f3-defd-4355-9bae-934ddc230f86">Nevada</h2>2012 margin: Obama +6.7%2016 margin: Clinton +2.4%2020 margin: Biden +2.4%Democrats have been victorious on the presidential level in the Silver State since 2008, when Obama won by nearly 13 points, followed by his victory of nearly 7 points in 2012.But Clinton and Biden both won the state by a little over 2 points, as Republicans have seen the fast-growing Western state as one that can be flipped into their column, especially if they can make inroads in Democratic-heavy Clark County.In the 2022 midterms, Republicans got a huge boost in the state when their gubernatorial nominee, Clark County Sheriff <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/results-steve-sisolak-joe-lombardo-nevada-governor-election-2022-11">Joe Lombardo</a>, defeated incumbent Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak.But Democrats also notched a major win by reelecting Sen. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/results-catherine-cortez-masto-adam-laxalt-nevada-senate-election-2022-11">Catherine Cortez Masto</a> to a second term over former state Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who had been strongly backed by Trump. And after state Democrats approved congressional maps that some in the party saw as especially risky in a GOP wave year, all three of the party's House incumbents — Dina Titus, Steven Horsford, and Susie Lee — won their respective races.The ticket-splitting in the midterms once again showed the critical nature of Nevada in national politics. Both parties are looking to win the state in 2024, especially as the economy remains at the forefront of voters' minds.<h2 id="4e302a43-e844-46e3-b75c-b5be667c5284">North Carolina</h2>2012 margin: Romney +2.04%2016 margin: Trump +3.7%2020 margin: Trump +1.3%Since 1980, Republican presidential nominees have won North Carolina in virtually every election, with the exception being Obama's razor-thin 2008 victory over then-Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain.And no presidential candidate has secured a majority of the vote in North Carolina since Romney won 50.4% of the vote in 2012, making this once solidly-red presidential state a real battleground.Democrats have focused heavily on North Carolina this year, given the close nature of the results in 2020, as well as the fact that the party sees the state as one where they can appeal to its suburban electorate — a critical part of Biden's coalition four years ago.However, the GOP is banking on Trump's popularity in the state's rural regions, which could sway the statewide tally in the former president's favor if he's able to effectively turn out his supporters.And in addition to the presidential race is the highly-competitive gubernatorial contest between Democratic state Attorney General Josh Stein and Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, two well-known statewide figures who are angling to succeed term-limited Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper.<h2 id="10b160e7-a52c-4e12-adfa-b0b6cf0da82c">Pennsylvania</h2>2012 margin: Obama +5.4%2016 margin: Trump +0.7%2020 margin: Biden +1.2%Biden's hometown of Scranton is dear to his heart so Pennsylvania was always going to be a key state for the party in 2024. And even with Biden out of the presidential race, the state remains just as critical for Democrats.Democrats carried Pennsylvania in every presidential race from 1992 to 2012, until Trump narrowly edged out Clinton in 2016, gaining support among the white working-class voters who populate the exurban and rural communities across the state.But Biden clawed back in 2020, boosted by strong returns in Philadelphia and its affluent suburbs, as well as a robust vote in Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh.And in 2022, Democrats had a huge year in the state, electing Lt. Gov. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/results-john-fetterman-mehmet-oz-pennsylvania-us-senate-election-2022-11">John Fetterman</a> to the Senate to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey, while also electing state Attorney General <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/results-doug-mastriano-josh-shapiro-pennsylvania-governor-election-2022-11">Josh Shapiro</a> in a landslide to succeed term-limited Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf.The party also regained control the state House of Representatives, winning back a majority they lost in the 2010 midterms.Despite the GOP losses, the party — keen on winning back some suburban voters and improving their margins in the state's rural outposts — has been making a major play for Pennsylvania this year.<h2 id="dc1790c5-fa2e-4bc3-8a48-8e88a92bbe00">Wisconsin</h2>2012 margin: Obama +6.9%2016 margin: Trump +0.8%2020 margin: Biden +0.6%Wisconsin is one of the most politically divided states in the country.Democratic presidential nominees Al Gore and John Kerry eked out statewide wins in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and Obama won the state easily in 2008 and 2012.But Trump flipped Wisconsin to the GOP in 2016, the first time it had supported a Republican presidential nominee since 1984.Democrats, stunned by the loss, regrouped and elected Tony Evers as governor in 2018 — knocking out onetime GOP star Scott Walker — while also reelecting Sen. Tammy Baldwin to a second term.Biden went on to narrowly win the state over Trump in 2020.And in November 2022, Evers was reelected to a second term over Republican businessman Tim Michels, while GOP Sen. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/results-ron-johnson-mandela-barnes-wisconsin-us-senate-election-2022-11">Ron Johnson</a> narrowly defeated then-Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes to earn a third term in the upper chamber.Both parties have been eyeing the Badger State — and looking to turn out their respective bases — in what will be another competitive race on the presidential level.

It also said the board of directors approved a share buyback at the maximum price of ₹3,000 each for an aggregate consideration of up to ₹10,000 crore. The proposal is subject to the approval of shareholders. The board also approved a special dividend of ₹6 per equity share to mark the end of chairman A M Naik’s extraordinary tenure with the company, said R Shankar Raman, L&amp;T's CFO said in an earnings conference call. Naik will retire as the non-executive chairman of the company in September this year, after which the current CEO &amp; MD S N Subrahmanyan will take over as its executive chairman and MD. Revenue guidance unchanged L&amp;T’s consolidated revenues went up 34% to ₹47,882 crore for the quarter, from 35,853 crore in Q1 of FY23. The company said that it was primarily aided by the execution of a healthy order book in its projects and manufacturing portfolio. However, Raman refused to change the goalpost of the revenue guidance of 12-15% given for FY24. “If all goes well, we will be at the upper end of the guidance,” he said. The company received orders worth ₹65,520 crore at the group level during the quarter, registering a y-o-y growth of 57%. International orders at ₹27,646 crore during the quarter comprised 42% of the total order inflow. The company said that orders were received across diverse segments like rail, renewables, rural water supply, transmission &amp; distribution, IT &amp; office space and onshore and offshore verticals of the hydrocarbon business, during the quarter. The consolidated order book of the group is at ₹4,12,648 crore as on June 30, 2023, with international orders having a share of 29%. “Capex buoyancy in India Gulf Cooperation Council is providing the much-needed tailwinds for growing our projects &amp; manufacturing portfolio, ably supported by the resilient performance of the services businesses,” said S N Subrahmanyan, CEO &amp; MD, Larsen &amp; Toubro. Core segment margins to remain stressed in near term Its infrastructure segment saw order inflows of ₹40,051 crore, double what was recorded in the same quarter last year. The EBITDA margin of the segment during the quarter, however, reduced to 5.1% vis-à-vis 6.5% recorded in the corresponding quarter. The infrastructure business orders that were executed during the quarter were won in the second half of FY22 and FY23. The pricing of these orders factors in inflationary trends seen in the post-Covid, post-War period, Raman said explaining the margin squeeze seen in the segment during the quarter. He added that this segment’s margins will continue to be subdued for the next quarter or two. “Improvement in margin trajectory will be seen only in Q4. In fact 2024-25 will be a far healthier period,” Raman said. In its outlook, the company said that major economies are turning around the corner. Major oil producing nations continue to invest in oil &amp; gas, industrialisation and energy transition initiatives, which will augur well for the company’s projects business. L&amp;T said that in the backdrop of this mixed sentiment, its focus will remain on cash generation and judicious capital allocation. “The company has a robust order prospects pipeline in the medium term and is confident of sustaining its growth momentum by utilising the emerging opportunities, with an overarching aim of improving shareholder value on a sustainable basis,” it said in a press release.

L&T’s Q1 net profit jumps 46%; board approves ₹10,000 crore share buyback

New Delhi, <keyword id="188376" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="LT-Foods" source="Orion">LT Foods</keyword> Ltd on Monday reported a 64.86 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 157.26 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, helped by expansion in domestic and foreign markets. It had reported a net profit of Rs 95.39 crore for the July-September quarter a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by LT Foods Ltd, which owns basmati rice brands -- Daawat and Royal. Its revenue from operation increased 14.66 per cent to Rs 1,977.78 crore during the quarter under review. It was Rs 1,724.83 crore a year ago. The total expenses in the September quarter surged 11.94 per cent to Rs 1,792.33 crore. Its total income in the September quarter rose 15.02 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,991.81 crore. LT Foods Managing Director and CEO Ashwani Arora said: "Our ongoing efforts to expand our presence in India and International markets have yielded substantial results, with our total business growing by 13 per cent during H1 FY24 and profit after tax (PAT) grew by 55 per cent". LT Foods is a leading player globally in the speciality rice and rice-based foods business. Over the outlook, Arora said in response to the evolving consumer trends and preferences, LT Foods will grow its core business and innovate and introduce new product offerings diversifying its product portfolio. "We are confident of continued improvement in our performance over the long term and in our ability to deliver consistent, sustainable, profitable, and responsible growth," he said. Shares of LT Foods Ltd on Monday were trading at Rs 162.25 on BSE during the afternoon, down 0.46 per cent from the previous close.

LT Foods Q2 2023-24 net profit rises 64.8% to Rs 157.26 cr

<ul><li>R Shankar Raman, the CFO of the company said that they will vie to achieve 15% growth in revenues for FY23 as guided at the start of the year.</li><li>L&amp;T, which gets around 80% of its orders from the government, hopes that private sector capex will pick up this year.</li><li>It expects to complete the sale of eight road projects in its portfolio by the end of March.</li></ul>Infrastructure major Larsen and Toubro today reported a 45% growth in net profit to ₹1,702 crore in the first quarter of 2022-23 from ₹1,174 crore in the comparable quarter last year – in spite of it being a seasonally weak quarter. Its revenues too moved up by 22%, however, the company is not revising its revenue forecast for the year from 12-15% given earlier. “We are relieved,” said R Shankar Raman, the CFO of the company in an earnings concall on the first quarter performance, and also assured that they will try to shoot for the upper end of the band they guided, but refuse to go any further due to domestic and international events. “There could be monkeypox or any other Black Swan incident and we do not know what shape it will come in. There are too many moving pieces to be able to predict but if the commodity prices remain soft some of the effects of the macroeconomic situation might be reversed,” said Raman. As much as 37% of L&amp;T’s revenues came from international markets, however, they said they have hedged to the extent of 70% on their receivables. “We are hedged to the extent of 70% but I would like to believe that the rupee will be in a depreciating mode rather than appreciating. The markets that we export to may see some impact,” Raman said. The company did face execution headwinds during the quarter especially with its international orders like supply chain issues, procurement rescheduling due to high commodity costs, higher ancillary costs like power, freight, fuel and more. Its international business constitutes 37% of its total revenues. The company’s overall margins for the quarter stood at 18%, while its order inflows went up by 57% to ₹41,805 crore. While almost 80% of L&amp;T’s domestic orders are from the government, it expects private sector orders to pick up. These orders are expected to come from healthcare, data centers, e-commerce logistics and warehousing and even airport projects. “Depending on who throws their hat into the ring, L&amp;T might offer its engineering, procurement and construction capabilities,” said Raman. L&amp;T has been keen on exiting the infrastructure projects it owns. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12003323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="mclaren" source="Orion">McLaren</keyword>'s LT cars are a callback to the company's exclusive F1 Longtail supercars from the 1990s.</li><li>The $388,000 <keyword id="14396009" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="mclaren-765lt" source="Orion">McLaren 765LT</keyword> has a monstrous 755 horsepower, and I drove it around <keyword id="11897569" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="london" source="Orion">London</keyword> recently.</li></ul>Throughout its history, McLaren Automotive has found a way to mix technology, comfort, and otherworldly speed with ease. It allows regular drivers to experience cutting-edge supercar tech and not worry that it'll spit them off the road, unless they opt to turn all the safety systems off and poke it with a stick. The $388,000 McLaren 765LT is a different animal. Even in its most inert setting, it's wild, unhinged, loud, and ridiculous. It belongs on a dry track somewhere hot, without any obstacles or inclement weather. Instead, I drove one in London — and I had things to do.<div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="3294" width="4392" msid="92732022" hostid="261" sizebytes="4061896"></div>McLaren's LT cars are a hark back to its famous Longtail F1 cars from the 1990s. Modern LTs are lighter, more driver focused, less huggy machines than the cars they're based on. The 765LT Spider is a McLaren with the gloves off and barbed wire taped to its forehead.The 765LT has a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 755 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. With the car's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, you can hit 62 mph from rest in 2.8 seconds. From there, you can hit 124 mph in 7.2 seconds and top out at 205 mph. <div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92732025" hostid="261" sizebytes="1579782"></div>The 765LT's signature dihedral doors open upwards, and its roof takes 11 seconds to fold away with the push of a keyfob. McLaren gave me a quick demo and driving lesson before turning the keys over, because it knows the 765LT Spider is a bit of a handful. It was enough to let me know to treat it with caution.On the highway to London, roof down, the car's outrageous purple hue drew eyes. Kids' faces lit up, while parents pretended to be disinterested. Its V8 comes attached to a titanium exhaust system, which makes it sound wonderfully aggressive — find a tunnel and pin the gas pedal to the floor for pops and crackles — but it can be a bit of a drone on the highway.<div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="3984" width="5312" msid="92732027" hostid="261" sizebytes="771208"></div>Riding through the city's lumpy roads, I had the drive mode set to "comfort." Its fixed carbon bucket seats can be a little jarring, since they leave little room for anything other than locking your body in place and keeping your hands on the wheel. The 765LT Spider isn't the most comfortable a McLaren's ever felt, but considering it's as hardcore as they get, it was pleasant. <div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92732029" hostid="261" sizebytes="1121762"></div>What I didn't expect was to be able to hear quite so much of the car itself. In order to cut all the extra weight, things like carpets were taken out. The side effect is not only a quicker car, but mechanical noises. You can hear the car's innards do their thing. It's peculiar, but it offers a refreshing honesty.In the city, its 755 horsepower seems a little lost. You can get to the speed limit awfully quick, but the car begs you to take it further — even if pressing on its pedals would result in losing your license in seconds. The LT's automatic transmission is smooth when you ask it to be, both when it's shifting itself and when you're pulling its tactile shift paddles.<div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92732031" hostid="261" sizebytes="351772"></div>You'd expect a car like this — one with a wide rear and not too much rear visibility — to be a nightmare to navigate around tight spaces, but it isn't at all. The wing mirrors do a good job, as does the backup camera.A car like the 765LT Spider will probably spend most of its life as it did with me: being paraded through built up areas having its picture taken. But to have it for a short time and not go exploring in the countryside is a crime, so I headed toward the coast. <div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92732032" hostid="261" sizebytes="777796"></div>Drive mode set to "Sport" (because "Track" is too rough for the real world), the Spider felt incredible. Nailing the gas caused the car to pick up pace with gusto. The whole car feels light, gliding to ludicrous speeds without issue. However, if you don't treat it with the respect it deserves — like being gentle with its hair-trigger gas pedal — it can catch you unaware. When that happens, the rear wheels skate around.<div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92732033" hostid="261" sizebytes="717852"></div>When the speeds get high, you have to handle it with care. If not, it feels like it'll bite rather hard.The brakes, a McLaren strong point, are incredible. That's partly thanks to pedal feel, but also the active. The spoiler slices through the air at high speeds, but when you need to stop in a hurry, it'll lift itself to an angry, almost vertical angle and essentially become a sail.With sport mode engaged, the gearbox and suspension are more ferocious. Lumps and bumps make themselves known. <div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="4000" width="5333" msid="92732034" hostid="261" sizebytes="374434"></div>McLaren nailed the steering feel on the car as well. It's smooth, perfectly weighted, and better than most. You'll likely only find better steering in a Lotus <keyword id="14396011" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="race-car" source="Orion">race car</keyword> or track-prepped special. While driving the 765LT, it only tried to bite me once or twice with seemingly little provocation. That is, until I was taking it back to McLaren's headquarters in Woking, Surrey. As I left my house, gently accelerating to the speed limit, the rear decided it would rather be anywhere other than where it was. Had I been too harsh with it? I don't expect so. But a "lesser" McLaren probably wouldn't behave quite like that. <div type="image" title="McLaren 675LT" height="3067" width="4090" msid="92732035" hostid="261" sizebytes="1156724"></div>That brings us to the 765LT Spider's biggest failing, but also its greatest strength: It's meant for a track — or at least a big, wide, warm road with plenty of space. To try and wrangle it in town to show off is a foolish, if fun, endeavor, but less harsh McLarens will be far kinder to regular mortals. The 765LT's ability is beyond almost every road car. It's something truly skilled drivers will make the most out of with ease — and they probably won't do it running to the store for milk.

Brad Little decisively beat back a primary challenge from his own Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin, who is endorsed by former President Donald Trump. The Republican faceoff marked the first time since 1938 that a sitting governor has been challenged by a lieutenant governor of the same party,<a href="https://www.idahopress.com/news/local/gop-primary-for-governor-is-one-for-the-history-books/article_f45c7fd7-d101-59d0-acbe-a3c6bbe32dff.html"> according to the Idaho Press</a>. They were the most notable among eight contenders vying for the GOP nomination.Little, a former sheep and cattle rancher,<a href="https://www.bradlittleforidaho.com/accomplishments/"> focused his reelection campaign</a> on his record of "cutting red tape," lowering taxes, opposition to Covid mandates, and education investments. He was the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/sports/transgender-idaho-ban-sports.html">first governor to sign legislation</a> barring transgender girls from female sports and to legalize asking athletes to undergo sex testing to compete.McGeachin, a business owner and Idaho's first female lieutenant governor, has "sparked controversy over her repeated interactions with fringe, extremist and racist figures," <a href="https://www.eastidahonews.com/2022/05/never-back-down-how-janice-mcgeachin-rose-from-anonymity-to-trumps-pick-for-governor/">Kevin Fixler wrote for the Idaho Statesman.</a> Like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, McGeachin appeared in February at the white nationalist America First Political Action Conference in Orlando, where she thanked those in attendance for "joining our efforts." McGeachin campaigned to Little's right, promoting her <a href="https://janiceforidaho.com/our-new-campaign-ad-is-on-the-air-in-idaho/">endorsement from Trump</a> and MAGA bona fides, and clashing with him over pandemic restrictions she argued were too strict. She encouraged businesses to violate his stay-home public safety order in 2020, according to <a href="https://idahocapitalsun.com/2022/03/11/idaho-gov-brad-little-files-for-re-election-enters-gop-governors-primary/">the Idaho Capital Sun</a>. While serving as acting governor, she twice issued COVID-related executive orders, one banning all mask mandates and another banning COVID-19 testing and vaccinations at schools. Little, who deferred to local control, repealed them when he returned to the state."Election integrity" is part of her platform. <a href="https://www.eastidahonews.com/2022/05/never-back-down-how-janice-mcgeachin-rose-from-anonymity-to-trumps-pick-for-governor/">She told the Idaho Statesman </a>she thinks Trump beat President Joe Biden, and she's called for a 50-state audit of the 2020 election "so that Americans can know, once and for all, what really happened," she says on her website. Little also says he plans for audits and new resources to protect against cyber attacks.McGeachin, who previously served in the Idaho House of Representatives, called on Little to reconvene the Idaho state legislature to pass a "more comprehensive" abortion ban. She argued Idaho's current abortion "trigger law" — designed to take effect if the landmark Roe v. Wade decision is overturned — has too many exceptions. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A Georgia grand jury indicted Donald Trump on charges related to his effort to overturn the 2020 election.</li><li>The indictment also names Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and other allies as defendants.</li></ul>A Georgia grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump and a group of top allies over their efforts to overturn the state's results in the 2020 election.The grand jury was convened by Fulton County's district attorney, Fani Willis, in July to investigate whether Trump broke criminal laws, including solicitation to commit election fraud, making false statements, conspiracy, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-rico-charge-meaning-racketeering-definition-2023-8">racketeering</a>, and violations of his oath of office.The sprawling <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-trump-indictment-unsealed-read-full-text-charges-2023-8">98-page indictment</a>, filed and unsealed Monday night, brings 13 criminal charges against the former president, as well as other charges against Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, Sidney Powell, and others who plotted with Trump to overturn the election results. Willis brought a top charge of racketeering — or RICO — alleging the group formed an enterprise to illegally subvert the 2020 election. The indictment names 19 defendants overall and brings 41 different charges.One of the events that sparked Willis' investigation was a phone call Trump made on January 2 of 2021 with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, the state's top election official. At about the same time, Republican officials in the state plotted to act as fake electors to falsely tell Congress that Trump won Georgia's electoral college votes. Those fake electors are among the defendants in the indictment.Trump <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-secretary-of-state-certifies-biden-won-election-2020-11">narrowly lost the 2020 presidential election in Georgia to now-President Joe Biden</a>, a loss that was confirmed by a statewide risk-limiting audit that included a hand recount of the nearly 5 million ballots cast in the presidential race and a subsequent machine recount requested by the Trump campaign. In a statement Monday night, Trump denied the allegations and baselessly claimed the indictment was a political hit job.<h2>An alleged criminal enterprise</h2>Even after Biden's win in the state <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-election-vote-certification-brad-raffensperger-recount-trump-biden-2020-12">was certified and recertified</a>, Trump and his allies <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-gabriel-sterling-trump-gop-senators-condemn-violence-election-workers-2020-12">continued to falsely insist the election was fundamentally fraudulent</a> and Trump was the rightful winner.After reportedly making 18 attempts to contact Raffensperger, Trump and his team finally got through to him. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-brad-raffensperger-phone-call-georgia-votes-presidential-election-2021-01">In an extraordinary hourlong call</a>, Trump continued to push election conspiracy theories and asked Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to win him the election."So look, all I want to do is this, I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have because we won the state, and flipping the state is a great testament to our country," <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-georgia-brad-raffensperger-election-influencing-transcript-republicans-2021-01">Trump said on the call</a>, which was recorded by Raffensperger's office.Much of the efforts from Trump and his allies to overturn the election, however, were out in the open.According to the indictment, Trump, lawyers he worked with in the White House, and fake electors in Georgia all composed "a criminal organization," which allows Willis to bring criminal charges under Georgia's RICO statute.<div type="image" title="Brad Raffensperger 2 " height="1333" width="1777" msid="102739510" hostid="261"></div>The organization's members, according to prosecutors, worked in concert and "engaged in various related criminal activities including, but not limited to, false statements and writings, impersonating public officer, forgery, filing false documents, influencing witnesses, computer theft, computer trespass, computer invasion of privacy, conspiracy to defraud the state, acts involving theft, and perjury."Members of the group broke the law by falsely telling legislators, courts, and other government officials that there was widespread election fraud in the 2020 election and stealing and disseminating voter data "to unlawfully change the outcome of the November 3, 2020, presidential election in favor of Donald Trump," prosecutors wrote in the indictment. The group's members also broke the law by lying to government officials and filing false documents to cover it up, prosecutors allege.Throughout the indictment, prosecutors reference private memos and phone calls they obtained during the course of their investigation. But much of the document's 98 pages are spent describing false statements made in open legislative sessions, statements made in press conferences, and Trump's tweets.Together with actions taken in private meetings and phone calls, the actions formed an illegal racketeering organization, prosecutors say.<h2>Willis sought high-profile subpoenas as part of her investigation</h2>The criminal investigation into Trump's call <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-prosecutors-trump-criminal-investigation-election-interference-fulton-county-2021-2">was launched in early February</a> of 2021, when <a href="https://twitter.com/bluestein/status/1359538104516960260">Willis sent letters to top Georgia officials</a>, including Raffensperger, Gov. Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, and Attorney General Chris Carr, who weren't targets of any investigation, alerting them of the inquiry and asking them to preserve all relevant official records.In early March of that year, Willis' office <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-prosecutor-investigating-trump-hires-top-racketeering-attorney-2021-3">also brought on a top racketeering lawyer</a> as an advisor on the case, indicating that she was pursuing more complex lines of investigation that could've involved multiple actors. Trump's former chief of staff <a href="http://businessinsider.com/mark-meadows-criminal-indictment-georgia-fani-willis-bob-haldeman-2023-8">Mark Meadows</a> and two lawyers, Cleta Mitchell and Kurt Hilbert, were also on the call with Raffensperger.On a separate call with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/transcript-trump-pressures-another-georgia-elections-official-to-find-fraud-2021-3">Frances Watson</a>, the Georgia secretary of state's chief investigator, Trump claimed he "won Georgia" and said he hoped she was reviewing signatures from elections from two years ago to uncover nonexistent fraud, telling her "she had the most important job in the country."<div type="image" title="rudy giuliani fulton county courthouse testimony georgia" height="1048" width="1398" msid="102739017" hostid="261"></div>Over the course of the investigation, Willis has obtained testimony from Georgia officials, including Raffensperger and Kemp. She also waged court battles to force people close to Trump to testify, including Meadows, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and the lawyers <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rudy-giuliani-indicted-georgia-trump-rico-2023-8">Rudy Giuliani</a>, Jenna Ellis, and John Eastman.Those witnesses testified earlier in front of a special grand jury, which had the power to issue subpoenas but not to bring criminal charges. That <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-special-grand-jury-finishes-trump-investigation-report-2023-1">special grand jury</a> completed a report earlier this year summarizing their findings and making charging recommendations to the Fulton County District Attorney's office.The entire report remains under seal, though court filings and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-donald-trump-juror-forewoman-criminal-charges-indictment-media-tour-2023-2">media interviews with a grand juror</a> indicated the special grand jury recommended multiple indictments, including for witnesses who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/georgia-special-grand-jury-some-witnesses-committed-perjury-2023-2">may have lied under oath</a>.In addition to Trump's personal conduct, Willis's investigation spanned a plot among Georgia Republican party officials to send fake electors to Congress on January 6, 2021, and falsely declare Trump the winner of the presidential election. Some of those fake electors have <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/05/05/fulton-county-georgia-trump-investigation-electors-immunity/">reportedly accepted immunity deals</a> with prosecutors in the months since the completion of the special grand jury report. <h2>Trump's docket is growing</h2>The grand jury indictment is the fourth pending criminal case against Trump, who is the first former president in US history to be criminally charged.Earlier this month, Trump pleaded not guilty to a set of federal charges in Washington, DC, brought by Justice Department Special Counsel <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-indictment-pleads-not-guilty-2020-election-interference-arraignment-court-2023-8">Jack Smith</a>, alleging he broke criminal laws while trying to overturn the election results. Part of that case involves Trump's efforts to cancel votes in Georgia by pressuring Raffensperger and using fake electors, overlapping with Willis's case.In June, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mar-a-lago-trump-indicted-obstruction-records-case-2022-10">Smith brought a separate criminal case against Trump</a> in Florida over his hoarding of classified documents following his presidency.The Manhattan district attorney's office was the first law enforcement agency to bring charges against Trump, in April, over allegations that he falsified business records with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-arraignment-pleads-not-guilty-new-york-indictment-2023-4">hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels</a> ahead of the 2016 election. In October, he's scheduled to face trial for a massive civil lawsuit brought by the New York Attorney General's office over his company's accounting practices. In January, he has another trial scheduled for yet another <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-e-jean-carroll-rape-defamation-case-trial-again-2023-7">defamation suit from E. Jean Carroll</a>, as well as one for allegations that he pushed a scam multi-level marketing scheme while hosting "The Celebrity Apprentice." There are also civil lawsuits trying to hold him responsible for the violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-key-cases-civil-criminal-investigations-lawsuits-updates-2022-7">among other cases</a>.Willis, who was elected as district attorney in 2020, is a seasoned prosecutor.
