Since then, the festival of lights is fast becoming mainstream in countries like the US with depictions on popular shows.<br /><br />Immigration brings with it unique customs and traditions of a country and Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of them, tracing its origin 2,500 years back. Sparkling crackers, the chaos of family get-togethers and the fervour over competing Rangolis – all form part of <keyword id="3405" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="diwali-celebrations" source="Orion">Diwali celebrations</keyword>.<br /><br />“When Michelle and I visited India, we were able to join in the Diwali festivities with some wonderful children in Mumbai. The origin stories may be different but all signify victory of good over evil, light over darkness.<br /><br />In the US, the Hindu American<a href="https://www.hinduamerican.org/hindu-heritage-month"> Foundation</a> has been leading efforts to popularise Indian culture and festivals. It has led efforts to identify October as the Hindu Heritage Month – due to the birth of Mahatma Gandhi and is often the month when the festivals of <keyword id="48284" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="navratri" source="Orion">Navratri</keyword> and Diwali are celebrated. <br /><br /><strong>The ‘state’ of Diwali parties in the US</strong> <br /><br />The mainstreaming of key Indian festivals like Diwali and Dussehra (the tenth day of Navratri) is a reflection of the growing clout of Indian Americans in the US. Today, over 130 Indian-Americans hold key positions in the administration of US President Joe <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/record-over-130-indian-americans-at-key-positions-in-us-president-joe-biden-administration/articleshow/93741817.cms">Biden</a>. <br /><br />In America alone there are 40 <a href="https://www.dnaindia.com/analysis/report-dna-special-india-s-diwali-goes-global-2918553">lakh</a> Indian origin citizens, who have contributed vastly to the American economy by being top doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs. <br /><br />President Biden has plans for a Diwali party in the White House on October<a href="https://www.outlookindia.com/international/biden-to-celebrate-diwali-at-white-house-on-october-24-trump-at-mar-a-lago-on-october-21-news-229253"> 24</a> with US Vice President <keyword id="180909" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kamala-harris" source="Orion">Kamala Harris</keyword> and her husband. Former US President Donald Trump will also be celebrating Diwali at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida today. <br /><br />The Secretary of State <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/international/news/diwali-celebrations-begin-at-times-square-vp-kamala-harris-and-former-prez-donald-trump-to-attend/articleshow/95001470.cms">Tony Blinken</a> is hosting another Diwali party at the State Department with the diplomatic community on October 26. <br /><br />On Friday, New York Mayor Eric Adams declared Diwali will be a public holiday in the city schools starting 2023. <br /><br />“This is an educational moment because when we acknowledge Diwali, we are going to encourage children to learn about Diwali. We're going to have them start talking about what it is to celebrate the festival of lights, and how to turn the light on within yourself,” Adams said. <br /><br />The 11th Grand International Diwali-Dussehra Festival was celebrated in Houston on October 17, attracting 10,000 people. It also involved consul generals of 15 countries in the Dussehra parade. With November elections approaching in the US, candidates like Bete O'Rourke could also be spotted at the parade. Diwali parties across Los Angeles have been a way of vocalising the presence of Indian colours and customs. <br /><br />Actress Priyanka Chopra with husband Nick Jonas also threw a party in Los Angeles celebrating Indian<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/entertainment/bollywood/inside-nick-jonas-priyanka-chopra-s-diwali-bash-couple-s-la-home-lights-up-with-fireworks-joe-jonas-joins-celebrations-101636104693939.html"> traditions</a>.<br /><br />“My beautiful wife has introduced me to so many wonderful Indian holidays and traditions. Kaling’s Diwali party for her <em>The Office</em> staff inspired the episode “Diwali” which aired in 2006. Diwali is becoming a global celebration and cementing Indian identity globally

German chancellor <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=angela+merkel">Angela Merkel</a> made everyone’s (including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s</a>) day when she returned a 10<sup>th</sup> century Durga idol which was stolen from Kashmir over two decades back.<br />
<br />
Three years ago, it was found that the idol was spotted in a museum in Sruttgart, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Three-things-we-wish-India-had-like-you-doGermany/articleshow/49229454.cms">Germany</a> and the Indian government immediately got in touch with the Germany authorities to ensure that the process of getting the idol back was started.<br />
<br /> And, finally, <keyword id="76" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Angela-Merkel">Angela Merkel</keyword> herself returned the idol to Modi on Tuesday during her two-day visit to India.<br />
<br />
Thanking Merkel and the people of Germany for returning the idol, Modi was quoted saying, “The statue is from Jammu and Kashmir &amp; is a symbol of victory of good over evil.”<br />

We at Business Insider got a little carried away by Merkel’s benevolence and thought to ourselves, ‘Hey, what if we had a chance to present our wishlist of Indian valuables we would like America to return to us?'<br />

We let that idea linger and racked our brains for a long long time and came up with this list of three valuables that definitely need a homecoming.<br />

1.     <strong><keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword>’s accent</strong>: As much as we are proud of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=priyanka+chopra">Priyanka Chopra</a> bagging the lead role in Quantico, an American TV series, we cannot help but roll our eyes and cover our ears whenever she starts speaking in the show, mainly because we’re clueless as to which accent she has put on, considering the first episode revealed she’s capable of putting on atleast five different accents.<br />
So, consider this as a genuine request America, return her accent(s) to us, so that we can do the needful and lock it up in a closet which no can find or hear.<br />

2.     <strong>Sunder Pichai:</strong> Okay, there’s no easy way to say this, but India is brimming with engineering graduates who’ve slogged their asses and survived four years at a place worse than jail- engineering college. If that doesn’t sound bad enough, this will- they do so, without having a social life or girlfriends. Thus, the least we can ask for from Silicon Valley is to return our very own <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sundar+pichai">Sunder Pichai</a> to us, so he can start something In India and hire the hundreds of jobless engineers. They’ve sacrificed enough.<br />

3.     <strong><keyword id="966769" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kunal-Nayyar">Kunal Nayyar</keyword></strong>: India has had enough of Kapil Sharma on one hand, and of AIB, on the other. We need someone who can spearhead an intelligent but subtle brand of funny to make sense of all the bizarre things happening in our country, and who better than Raj Kuthrapalli to do just that? Our apologies, cast of <keyword id="1213095" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="The-Big-Bang-Theory">The Big Bang Theory</keyword>, but we’d like it if our funny boy is returned to us. And, yes his accent is real.<br />

Given that she'd spent over a decade shooting 12 seasons of the fan-beloved show, Cuoco said it was difficult to imagine her next steps. </p><p>"When I started freaking out about the comparisons there would be or what my next project would be, I realized you can't compare anything to 'Big Bang,'" she said, adding, "As its own entity, I'll never have that again."</p><p>Cuoco continued, "I won't have that cast again, the money, the schedule, the 12 years... I mean, all of it was insane."</p><p>Not only were the show's original cast members - Jim Parsons, Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg - a tight-knit bunch, but they were also some of the highest-earning talents on <keyword id="6357922" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Television">television</keyword>. </p><p>In 2018, Forbes reported that Cuoco was the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/highest-paid-tv-actresses-in-the-world-sofia-vergara-ellen-pompeo-2018-10">second-highest-paid TV actress of the year</a>, earning $24.5 million pretax between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018. That ranking was filed after the actress, along with the four other original cast members, each took a $100,000 pay cut in 2017 so that Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik could earn more, according to <a href="https://variety.com/2017/tv/news/the-big-bang-theory-contract-mayim-bialik-melissa-rauch-1201999243/">Variety</a>. </p><p>Aware that many people would inevitably size up her future work to the popular sitcom, Cuoco said she made a decision to pursue projects for herself. </p><p>"I was like, OK, if I can accept that nothing will compare to that, I can't control what other people are gonna say about me, but I knew my next project was gonna be for me and I was gonna leave that in its own place," she said.</p><p>Following the series finale of "The Big Bang Theory," Cuoco executive produced and starred in the HBO Max series "Flight Attendant."</p><p>Her on-screen performance <a href="https://www.insider.com/kaley-cuoco-flight-attendant-golden-globes-nomination-2021-2">scored the actress her first Golden Globe nomination</a>, which was in the category of best actress in a musical or comedy.</p><p>Last month, Cuoco detailed the day she found out that "The Big Bang Theory" was ending during an interview with <a href="https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/kaley-cuoco-the-big-bang-theory-ending-1234913434/">Variety's Kate Arthur</a>. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>"The Big Bang Theory" stars Mayim Bialik and Kunal Nayyar made a surprise appearance at the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday.</p><p>The panel peeled the curtain back on the show's history and making, and featured its Emmy Award-winning writers and creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. Nayyar, who plays shy, effeminate <a title="Astrophysics">astrophysicist</a> <a title="Raj Koothrappali">Raj Koothrappali</a>, joined the panel as moderator.</p><p>Early in the discussion, Nayyar asked the writers whether or not they read any of the multitudes of "Big Bang Theory" fan fiction floating around on the internet. Writer and producer Steve Holland said that once they opened Pandora's box, the writers became addicted to it.</p><p>"We kind of got wrapped up in it," said Holland, who admitted to reading it out loud in the writers' room.</p><p>One story that caught their interest took place during a season eight episode titled "The Prom Equivalency," and followed the off-camera escapades of Amy Fowler, Bialik's brilliant, quirky neurobiologist character.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"It started out as a joke," Holland says, "then we got into the story."</p><p>At this point in the panel, Bialik was welcomed on stage and invited to read some original fan fiction - penned by the show's writers - that captures a heated moment between her and Nayyar's characters. They took to the podium, cleared their throats, and stood close.</p><p>"Amy looked at <a title="Raj Koothrappali"><span><span>Koothrappali, staring at the stars through his</span></span> telescope. She had always thought of him as a friend, but now, </a>something was different," Bialik read from the script. "She spent her life studying the brain, but she had a feeling tonight, this <em>swami</em> of love was going to teach her about another organ."</p><p>Nayyar looked up, stared at the woman next to him, and crooned, "Have you ever read '50 Shades of Grey?' I'm about to introduce you to '50 Shades of Brown.'"</p><p>The crowd screamed with delight.</p><p>"Amy replied, 'That doesn't make sense," Bialik said. "'Grey' was the main character's last name."</p><p>"That kind of semantic nit-picking," Nayyar retorted, in a husky bravado, "is going to get you a spanking."</p><p>"Oh my. 2 'Big Bang Theory' stars made a surprise Comic-Con appearance and read '50 Shades of Grey' fan fiction on stage

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Diehard fans of CBS's Emmy-darling "The Big Bang Theory" packed into Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.</p><p>During the "<span>Inside The Big Bang Theory Writer's Room" panel - in which the show's stars Mayim Bialik and Kunal Nayyar made surprise appearances - executive producer and writer Steve Molaro revealed that fans can expect major scoops on Sheldon and Amy's relationship in the premiere episode of season nine.</span></p><p>Last we left "Shamy," as the couple is known by fans, Amy broke things off after Sheldon interrupted an intimate moment to talk about "The Flash." In a season eight finale twist, fans discovered that Sheldon was in fact ready to move their relationship to the next level. He bought a wedding ring and planned to propose.</p><p>When asked by an audience member when exactly Sheldon bought the ring, Molaro said, "The answer will be in the premiere episode of season nine."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Even Bialik gasped. Her costar Nayyar said earlier in the panel that the cast often doesn't receive an episode script until the night before filming.</p><p><a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/big-bang-theory-sheldon-amy-793742">The Hollywood Reporter previously reported</a> that things between Sheldon and Amy are far from over.</p><p><span>"I don't know exactly what's going to happen but [Sheldon is] clearly fond of her," Molaro told THR. "I don't think they're done speaking by any means. 'Big Bang Theory' writers just addressed the big cliffhanger at the end of last season

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>The <a href="http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12599985/sacramento-kings-add-sim-bhullar-historic-move">Sacramento Kings announced the signing of Sim Bhullar</a> to a 10-day contract on Thursday.</p><p>Bhullar, at a massive 7-5, 360 pounds, is the first NBA player of Indian descent.</p><p>After playing two years at New Mexico State University, Bhullar went undrafted and played with the Kings' Summer League team in Las Vegas.</p><p>Though he played just 10 minutes in Summer League, he got a training camp invite with the Kings before he was sent down to their D-League affiliate, the Reno Bighorns.</p><p>Despite Bhullar's size - and that <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/apr/03/sim-bhullar-nbas-first-player-of-indian-descent-worked-hard-to-defy-odds?CMP=share_btn_tw">Bighorns coach David Arseneault Jr . said Bhullar wasn't in great shape</a> - he excelled in a fast-paced system and worked himself into shape in D-League.</p><p>He averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks per game with a D-League-leading 72% shooting. <p>After <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/big-bang-theory-contract-negotiations-2014-7" target="_blank">months of negotiations</a>, the trio finally banged out new, three-year deals on Sunday that will triple their current <span>$350,000 an episode salary.</span></p>
<p>Now, the CBS stars will be raking in <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2014/08/big-bang-theory-stars-jim-parsons-johnny-galecki-kaley-cuoco-close-big-new-deals/" target="_blank">$1 million paychecks per episode</a> <span>for 72 episodes in the upcoming s<span>easons 8-10</span></span>.</p>
<p>Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, who first <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2014/08/big-bang-theory-stars-jim-parsons-johnny-galecki-kaley-cuoco-close-big-new-deals/" target="_blank">broke the news</a>, also reports the cast will benefit in other ways:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"I also hear that the complex deals go well beyond per-episode fees and also include larger pieces of the show, signing bonuses, production deals and advances towards the back-end - perks associated with talent deals on shows as big as </span><em style="line-height: 1.5em;">Big Bang</em><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">. In addition to tripling their most recent salaries of $350,000 an episode, I hear Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco also quadrupled their previous ownership on the show, which has gone up from .25 point to more than a point...</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span><span><span><span>All in, I hear Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco are poised to make at least $90 million dollars each over the lives of the deals ... </span><span><span>WBTV still is expected to clear $1 billion in profits, with some projecting that </span><em>Big Bang</em><span> could contribute to Time Warner's bottom line twice that over its lifespan."</span></span></span></span></span></p>
<p>Last fall, co-stars Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik signed on for Season 8 with <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/big-bang-theory-mayim-bialik-melissa-rauch-pay-raises/" target="_blank">"</a><span><a href="http://www.deadline.com/2013/09/big-bang-theory-mayim-bialik-melissa-rauch-pay-raises/" target="_blank">in the neighborhood of $60,000"</a> per episode paychecks, a bump from their previous <span>$20,000-$30,000 range per episode. </span></span></p>
<p><span><span><span><span>Original cast members </span>Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar, who currently make <span>more than $100,000 an episode,</span> are the only two who have yet to hammer out deals before Wednesday's table read.</span></span></span></p>

'Big Bang Theory' Cast Sign Huge New $90 Million Salary Deals

<p>Host Conan O'Brien opened the show with a pre-recorded segment where he met with MTV brass to figure out an opening gag that would work for today's youth.</p>
<p>"Who cares about funny? Kids don't laugh anymore," said O'Brien. "They see celebrities and they go 'Woo.'"</p>
<p>Just like that, the late-night host attempted to get 50 celebrity cameos on screen. </p>
<p>From Martin Scorsese and Russell Crowe to Taylor Swift and Kaley Cuoco, see who Conan tracked down.</p>

<p class="p1"><a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/04/13/mtv-movie-awards-opening-troy-miller/">According to Entertainment Weekly</a>, it took director Troy Miller three weeks to film and edit all of the scenes around O'Brien's late-night schedule.<span> </span></p>
<p class="p1">Each celebrity cameo - there are 49 (50 including Conan) - took an estimated 5-8 minutes to film. </p>
