Here’s something to think about- how many <keyword id="32789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hugs">hugs</keyword> can you (or want to) give in a minute? If you ask me, I’d say none. 
 But if you’re <keyword id="104932" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krishna-Kumar">Krishna Kumar</keyword>, the latest record holder of the most hugs given in a minute, the answer would be a whopping 79! 
 
On March 5, Krishna Kumar from India set out to make a record for the most number of hugs given in a minute. He managed to give out 79 hugs in under 60 seconds at Rock Town in LB Nagar at Hyderabad. 
 
His feat was acknowledged by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=guinness+book+of+world+records&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Guinness Book of World Records,</a> who even uploaded a hilarious video of him during the cumbersome process. 
 
In the video, Kumar is seen standing with his hands outstretched for a hug and a long line of kids stand in front of him to get their chance of hugging him. Understandably, this makes for one fun sight! 
 
While he did manage to set a new record, many have questioned his way of hugging the 79 people and some even suggested alternate ways of beating this new record, which was surprisingly also encouraged by the Guinness administration.

 Here is one start-up that started as a blog, teaching people online for free. But in about 4 years, Bangalore-headquartered Simplilearn has become one of the biggest global players, offering 80-plus online certification courses across 11 categories and training 4,000 young professionals a month. The company was set up by former Infosys <keyword id="1899622" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="techie-and-serial-entrepreneur">techie and serial entrepreneur</keyword> Krishna Kumar (he had earlier co-founded <keyword id="1899623" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tech-Unified">Tech Unified</keyword>, which was acquired by a public listed company) back in 2009 and within 1 year, it was earning $100,000 a month. Simplilearn has also raised $10 million in a recent Series B <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> from <keyword id="309606" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Helion-Venture-Partners">Helion Venture Partners</keyword> and existing investor <keyword id="1397792" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kalaari-Capital">Kalaari Capital</keyword> (former <keyword id="677853" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="IndoUS-Venture-Partners">IndoUS Venture Partners</keyword>). 
 The US operations of this start-up happen to be huge – around 70% of its revenues come from the <keyword id="6356955" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="united-states">United States</keyword>, with 15% from India and the remaining from Europe and Australia. So how does Kumar view the ongoing <keyword id="613228" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="US-shutdown">US shutdown</keyword> from the perspective of an Indian start-up? 
 
There’s no immediate threat, he feels, but it will definitely affect the business in case there is a spending cut on training. But the shutdown also proves that policy paralysis can happen anywhere in the world and there is a chance now that the home turf would get more VC traction if the impasse continues. Here are the excerpts from our chat. 
 
How will this current shutdown affect <keyword id="770060" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-start-ups">Indian start-ups</keyword>? 
 Currently, the situation seems temporary and for this reason, we have not seen any impact. However, if the situation escalates and the shutdown is prolonged, we will definitely see effects. Once a negative sentiment settles in, there can be massive consequences. 
 
Will it hit your specific niche? 
We are an individual re-skilling business that provides certification training courses to professionals. Because it’s a consumer product focused on training, the shutdown has the potential to affect us if the country reduces its spending on training. 
 
Will this have a long-term impact on seed-stage or early-stage funding? 
In my opinion, I can’t relate the shutdown to funding. Funding is a long-drawn process. Generally, cross-border funding takes places at the early stage of funding, not during the seed stage. So if there is any impact, it will be in the early stages. 
 
What about VC sentiment? Does the current situation mean investors will turn to emerging markets again? 
Yes, I think this is possible. The shutdown is a true testament to the fact that policy paralysis not only happens in India, but in the US as well. The longer it goes on, the greater the chance of VCs looking to India and other emerging markets. 
 
Do you think Indian <keyword id="428085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="start-ups">start-ups</keyword> would now think twice before entering the US market? 
When you have a start-up, you do everything you can to survive. Frankly, as long as there are buyers in the US, start-ups will continue to focus their efforts on the US. Moreover, I think such factors impact larger organisations much more, rather than start-ups. In my opinion, private companies (start-ups) will not feel the heat as much.

Start-ups Won’t Stop Targeting U.S. Market: Simplilearn CEO Krishna Kumar

New Delhi, Dec 20 () Tata Global Beverages Ltd (TGBL) on Friday announced appointment of Sunil Alaric D'Souza as its Managing Director and CEO.
D'Souza, who is currently the MD of consumer durable firm Whirlpool of India, will assume his new role from April 4, 2020, subsequent to the retirement of Ajoy Misra, TGBL said in a statement.
Besides, Ajit Krishna Kumar has been appointed as the company's Chief Operating Officer. 
"Sunil D'Souza brings strong domain knowledge of consumer products businesses, and a successful track record of leadership. His experience and expertise will be very valuable in shaping and developing TGBL for the future," TGBL Chairman N Chandrasekaran said.
D'Souza, who holds a post-graduate diploma in management from the IIM Calcutta, was leading Whirlpool India for last four years.
Prior to this, he had a 15-year stint in Pepsico, where he worked in several leadership roles. 
He started his career at Brooke Bond Lipton India in 1993 and has 26 years of experience in the consumer goods industry.
Ajit Krishna Kumar is currently Senior Vice President in the Chairman's office in Tata Sons, where he leads group strategy for consumer businesses.

 However, <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> always preferred CEOs to have prior experience of heading companies or businesses and opted to move up CEOs from smaller companies to larger ones. 
 
While appointing Ratan Tata’s successor both the search committee and Tata himself chose Mistry amongst 6 other internal candidates. It was then told that Tata himself would mentor Mistry for a year. While the hunt for perfect candidate is still on, it’s kind of a déjà vu for Tata Sons. With hardly any time left to train new CEOs, Tata may be considering another paratrooper.

Rupert Murdoch's News Corp posted its third straight quarter of revenue decline

New Delhi, Feb 1 () Budget 2020 announcement that insurance behemoth LIC will be listed was well received by market participants who said this will be "IPO of the decade" akin to the Saudi Aramco listing.
 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) will be listed as part of the government disinvestment initiative.
 A "highlight of the budget is the LIC IPO, which is akin to the Saudi Aramco listing for Indian capital markets, and will be IPO of the decade," Vijay Bhushan, President, Association of National Exchanges Members of India (ANMI) said.
 According to Krishna Kumar Karwa, Managing Director, Emkay Global Financial Services, the LIC IPO will be a big positive for corporate governance and transparency and will open up one more avenue for fund raising for the government over the years. 
 Metropolitan Stock Exchange, Interim CEO, Balu Nair said: "The LIC listing will be eagerly awaited by investors and will provide huge fillip to capital raising through the primary market."
 The government proposes to sell a part of its holding in LIC through an initial public offer, Sitharaman said while presenting Budget 2020-21.
 "The government will sell part of LIC through its listing in the stock market which is also a positive trigger for the market," Amit Gupta, CO-Founder and CEO, TradingBells.
 Jaideep Hansraj, MD and CEO of Kotak Securities said listing of LIC would help bridge a gap in the Fiscal Deficit for FY21.
 Currently, the government owns the entire 100 per cent stake in LIC.

LIC will be IPO of the decade; will provide huge fillip to capital raising: Experts

New Delhi, Dec 12 () Agritech startup Ecozen on Thursday said it has raised USD 6 million (around Rs 42 crore) from investors to fund its expansion plan.
Based in Pune, Ecozen was founded by three IIT Kharagpur alumni, Devendra Gupta, Prateek Singhal and Vivek Pandey. It develops technology-enabled products to strengthen farm-to-fork value chain of perishables.
Ecozen said in a statement it has completed its USD 6 million Series A fund raise, after receiving investment from Sathguru Catalyser's Innovation in Food &amp; Agriculture Fund (IFA Fund). This funding is on top of the investment received in July 2019 from Caspian and the Hivos-Triodos Fund".
Omnivore, which originally invested in Ecozen in 2015, also participated in this round.
The company had raised USD 3 million in seed funding.
Ecozen's irrigation and cold chain products (Ecotron and Ecofrost) help farmers who grow perishables to increase their yields, store their produce longer, and realise higher prices. The company said that about 25,000 farmers in India use its products.
A Krishna Kumar, ex-MD of State Bank of India, will be joining Ecozen's board as the company embarks on its next phase of growth, the statement said.
Ecozen Co-Founder &amp; CEO Devendra Gupta said: "The funding raised will enable us to expand our product range, production capacity, and enter new geographies".
Vijayaraghavan Kannan, Senior Partner at IFA Fund said: "Ecozen has focused on using technology as a differentiator and has pioneered innovative products addressing market imperfections and catering to underserved segments of agriculture &amp; food value chain".

At the same time we are also scaling up on the sales team to cater to the demand of online classes which were provided by offline institutes in the past. For the next quarter, we will hire technology, product and sales professionals. Edtech hirings at an all-time high — over 4,100 job openings in Unacademy, Vedantu, Simplilearn and more

Mumbai, Feb 1 () The BSE Sensex plummeted 988 points on Saturday to close below the key 40,000-mark, led by an intense broad-based selloff after the Union Budget for 2020-21 failed to live up to market expectations. 
 Experts said the Budget has been below par considering investors had extremely high expectations from the government to revive the economy. 
 Nosediving nearly 1,275 points from the day's high, the 30-share index ended 987.96 points or 2.43 per cent lower at 39,735.53. It hit an intra-day low of 39,631.24 and a high of 40,905.78.
 Similarly, the 50-share NSE Nifty plunged 300.25 points or 2.51 per cent to 11,661.85, sinking below the 2019 Budget day level of 11,811.15. 
 ITC was the top laggard in the Sensex pack, tanking 6.97 per cent, followed by L&amp;T, HDFC, SBI, ONGC, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank.
 On the other hand, TCS rallied 4.13 per cent, followed by HUL, Nestle India, Tech Mahindra and Infosys. 
 Presenting the Union Budget for 2020-21, Finance Minster Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to remove dividend distribution tax on companies, effectively shifting the tax burden to recipients at the applicable rate.
 She pegged the fiscal deficit at 3.8 per cent in the current fiscal, compared to the earlier target of 3.3 per cent of GDP.
 In her second Budget presentation, the finance minister said certain government securities will be open for foreign investors, adding that the Centre plans to increase investment limit for FPIs in corporate bonds from 9 per cent to 15 per cent.
 According to Krishna Kumar Karwa, Managing Director - Emkay Global Financial Services, investors are disappointed with no relief on long term capital gains (LTCG) tax and lack of big bang sectoral stimulus. 
 "The removal of Dividend Distribution Tax seen as a continuation of earlier step of reducing corporate tax is well appreciated and sends the right signals to local and global investors," he added.

Kumar believes that the demand for upskilling and reskilling will prevail in the industry. “Over the past couple of years, the shift to online training and education led to a growth spurt in the number of providers in the industry. The industry is currently witnessing a transition phase with hybrid models of work and study,” he added. Founded in 2010, the company claims to conduct more than 3,000 live classes, with an average of 70,000 learners who collectively spend more than 500,000 hours each month on the platform. Its peers like Unacademy, Vedantu are laying off its workforce due to lower funding. Overall, the edtech industry has reportedly laid off 8,000 people due to economic slowdown. Edtech startup Simplilearn bucks the trend — to hire 800 people this year

Technology giant <keyword id="10875" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword> and ed-tech company Simplilearn on Wednesday announced an extension of their <keyword id="6379846" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="collaboration">collaboration</keyword> to provide curated <keyword id="9871692" type="AGENCY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Learning-Programmes">learning programmes</keyword> in Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for over 20,000 working professionals. The extension is aimed to curate an in-depth, industry-focused curriculum and introduce industry-focused <keyword id="472980" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="training-programmes">training programmes</keyword> in <keyword id="771372" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-analytics">Data Analytics</keyword>, <keyword id="6357343" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Data-Science">Data Science</keyword>, AI and <keyword id="294572" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="machine-learning">Machine Learning</keyword> (ML), Data Engineering and Business Analysis. Furthermore, learners will have access to "Ask Me Anything" mentorship sessions with IBM leaders, IBM hackathons for intensive problem-solving sessions and customised masterclass sessions to share experiences and real-time scenarios. "Through our enhanced collaboration with Simplilearn, we look forward to offering more comprehensive benefits to the learners and provide them an opportunity for career growth in the fields of AI and Data Science," Devkant Aggarwal, Leader, Growth Initiatives, Career Education, IBM ISA, said in a statement. All learning programmes integrated with IBM's course content will be delivered through Simplilearn's bootcamp-style training delivery model. IBM and Simplilearn to extend collaboration upskill over 20,000 professionals

The <keyword id="396996" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-IT-industry">Indian IT industry</keyword> has, off lately, seen a number of companies resorting to layoffs, which is why software professionals with three-eight years of experience are increasingly afraid about their job security. To escape the worst, these techies are now focused at adding multiple skills to their kitty, which has resulted in a rise in the demand of courses from e-learning companies like <keyword id="2008319" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Upgrad">Upgrad</keyword>, <keyword id="805453" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SkillSoft">Skillsoft</keyword> and <keyword id="1309724" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Simplilearn">Simplilearn</keyword>. These companies are offering courses in specialised areas like analytics and product management. "Professionals with management profiles are shifting to product management. Skillsoft, which is a digital learning platform, started to see applications from early birds over five-six months ago. "Those with over five years of experience, i.e. mid-level executives and project managers, are taking up courses in UI/UX (user interface/experience), machine learning, artificial intelligence and micro service architecture. Cyber security is another sought-after course," said Vinay Pradhan, CEO, Skillsoft. Similarly, Simplilearn, has seen a 43% rise in the number of working professionals from key metros in the last one year, especially in categories like digital marketing, data science, and sales force. "Professionals are not secure about their jobs anymore because of the recent layoffs. However, this environment is providing a big opportunity for lakhs of white-collared professionals to move out of their comfort zones and upskill themselves to remain employable. Automation and digital transformation has created an adapt-or-perish scenario. It's an alarming reminder that re-skilling is the only way out to be relevant," said Krishna Kumar, founder and CEO, Simplilearn. Industry experts are of the view that professionals concerned about career stagnation are looking forward to up-skilling and cross-skilling.
