Infosys too has recommended that people don’t travel to the identified countries </li><li>But even with the global fear on the effect of Coronavirus, Shankar says it’s too early to say that it will impact business. </li></ul>The Coronavirus pandemic shook stock exchanges across the world, brought tourism to a standstill and has hit businesses. In such a scenario, companies are offering work from home, restricting travel and taking all possible measures to control it from spreading. India’s IT giant Infosys too is taking multiple steps for the same. In an interview with Business Insider, Krish Shankar, Group HR Head, Infosys shares the company’s policies around Coronavirus. “We've always had enough policies to really take care of such contingencies. For example, we used to give nine days work from home. So now we have told any employee that if they are sick they should do work from home,” said Shankar. Shankar expressed similar caution while speaking about the company's hiring plan. “We look at our hiring every quarter. Every quarter we see what is the demand," said Shankar. Will it affect new deals this quarter? Most companies have already restricted travel to and from affected countries. Infosys too has recommended that people don’t travel to the identified countries and if they have, Infosys asked them to quarantine themselves. “We operate in many countries, so we look at the government guidelines in those countries and the WHO and we kind of follow them completely,” he said. Infosys is present in 46 countries and has over 243,000 employees. So, Infosys is in the throes of the Coronavirus scare, from not just its own locations around the world but also its global clients who might be shutting down work.

 Even with the global fear of the impact of Coronavirus, Shankar says it’s too early to say that it will impact business. “Each of the clients that we have also have their, such contingency planning. They also have their business continuity plans, etc. All of them are pretty good at it,” said Shankar. Some of the biggest conferences by Facebook and Google have been called off, as with the COVID 19 scare people are avoiding public places. As community meetings and conferences go into a pause mode, the sales team could find it difficult to get more clients on board, or keep up with the current ones. And now, there’s one thing that has changed – the client calls have gone online. “I think there is lots of action that's happening and companies also want to expedite some things that they may be working on. And it's just that maybe meetings may get a bit delayed, maybe some face to face discussions,” he said. Will Infosys slowdown hiring? Earlier Infosys’ chief financial officer (CFO) <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/sectors/jobs/infosys-to-hire-more-freshers-targets-cost-cutting-of-up-to-150-million-dollar-salil-parikh-nilanjan-roy/story/388980.html">Nilanjan Roy had said</a> that the company would hire more freshers in a cost cutting move, while also realigning roles at the middle and senior level. The company wanted to cut costs by $100-150 million. But with coronavirus casting a shadow on business prospects, will the IT major pause? “Normally what happens is the peak starts during the year. March-April onwards, the freshers also join us. That's the time when the lateral hire picks up during there. So I think it's a mix of both. I think. I wouldn't quickly say that I know hiring is going to slow down,” said Shankar. Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/careers/news/merely-8-companies-in-india-expected-to-offer-more-than-10-salary-hikes-says-deloitte-survey/articleshow/74472662.cms">recent survey by Deloitte</a> says that only 8% of all companies in India are going to give a 10% hike. Infosys is confident that they are not ones that are going to be shying away from increments. “There will be a salary hike. You will see it in the next couple of weeks,” said Shankar. <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> has appointed former <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Philips+">Philips</a> executive <keyword id="196155" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Krish-Shankar">Krish Shankar</keyword> as its global <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Human+Resource+">Human Resource</a> head, a post which was vacant for about six months. The India's second-largest software services exporter wants to become an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=employee+friendly+">employee-friendly</a> firm. 
 
Shankar's appointment comes at a time when <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vishal+Sikka+">Infosys’s chief executive officer Vishal Sikka</a> is looking to change the way company handles its employees. After his appointment as Infosys’ CEO last year, Sikka has come up with several changes including the removal of the company's formal dress code. 
 
Announcing Shankar’s appointed in a conference on Monday, Sikka said that he would be the key to transform people strategy, which would be the key in implementing the firm’s overall strategy. 
 
In the past few months, Infosys has seen a great improvement in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=v">employee satisfaction</a>, as measured by a drastic drop in its attrition rate. 
 
For the quarter ended September 30, Infosys reported an annualized standalone attrition rate of 14.1%, down marginally from the June quarter, and down nearly 700 basis points from the year ago period.

The Human Resource chief for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=South+Asia+">South Asia</a> at <keyword id="49855" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="philips">Philips</keyword> and former executive director for <keyword id="67723" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="HR">HR</keyword> at telecom operator <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bharti+Airtel">Bharti Airtel</a>, Krish Shankar might join India's second largest software services firm <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> as its new global Human Resources head. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys+">Infosys</a> was looking for a new human resources head after Srikantan Moorthy moved to another role in the company recently. 
 
Sources familiar with the developments said Shankar, an XLRI-Jamshedpur alumnus, is likely to join Infosys in November. The firm also announced the appointment of Richard Lobo as the HR head for its Indian operations earlier this month. 
 
Shankar, however, did not approve this move, saying “there is nothing like this on cards." An Infosys spokesperson told ET that the company could not comment on speculation related to hiring. 
 
Shankar is currently heading HR for the Indian subcontinent at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Philips">Philips</a>. He has earlier worked in <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> as its executive director of HR for about seven years. He worked before with <keyword id="45009" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Unilever">Unilever</keyword> for about 20 years in different roles as vice president, HR, for Asia-AMET (Africa, Middle East, Turkey) markets. 
 
He was a business partner for the regional organisation and functions of customer development, supply chain and finance at Unilever. 
 
A management reshuffle has been underway at Infosys after CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vishal+Sikka+">Vishal Sikka</a> took charge. Infosys had announced in February that it was realigning its organisational structure effective 1 April, to sharpen its competitive differentiation across service lines.

Last year, the company hired nearly 500 freshers from campuses. The idea is to identify the top performers right after the training period to materialise on their digital skills. Under the initiative, the company will identify the top 5% of the employees after training — which will be given preference over other hired candidates at the time of promotions and incentives. Existing employees too can also benefit from the ‘power programmer’ initiative. The tech major will shortlist these employees with an internal coding test or hackathons. “Once they become power programmers, their salary gets doubled. And we are seeing it double every year,” Krish Shankar, executive vice-president and head of HR at Infosys told Business Standard. ‘Digital tag’ The software giant is banking on its young employees for digital readiness. The ‘Digital Tag’ initiative will incentivise employees who are proficient in any of the 32 skills identified by the company — including four niche skills. The company offers special quarterly bonuses to 2,000 skilled employees, Shankar said. “Over the past 2-3 years, we have reimagined many of our internal processes. New technologies are now coming in. Hence, the process of managing and training talent is also changing,” he added. However, Krish Shankar, the Group HR Head of Infosys told Business Insider in an exclusive interview, what the tech major is looking for in campus hires this year — ‘power programmers’. “Some of the skills that I can either learn on Infosys campus with a ₹4.5 lakh salary or I can do something alongside an engineering degree and come on board. Our fast track program training takes place in Mysore. If in the first six months they come in the top 5% or 10%, we accelerate their growth within two years and they can really move on to the next level. So, if people learn fast and perform, then I think the opportunities are phenomenal,” Shankar explained. The tech major shortlists these employees with internal coding tests and hackathons. “Even people who have already joined us, and can pass the test and hackathon, we tend to put them as power programmers,” Shankar added. The programme was initially started for the employees within the company, and later expanded to students across India. The number of <a href="https://infytq.infosys.com/">registrations went up to 300,000</a>, soon after it was introduced. Of the total students who completed the programme, 1,800 were hired — including 400 in specialist roles, which are normally open to students from elite colleges like IIT. In India, it has cast a shadow on potential hiring and that means students will have to try harder to improve the odds of getting a well-paying job.
