New Delhi, Feb 27 () Jason Kothari, who has the distinction of transforming several distressed Indian Internet firms, shares the turnaround story of his journey from a rebel, train-wreck kid to one of the top ten paid young executives in the country.As a college student at Wharton, Kothari scraped together money from family and friends to save his childhood favourite comic book company, Valiant Entertainment, from bankruptcy and bring it back to life. A few years later, he transformed Valiant into the third-largest superhero entertainment company in the world after Marvel and DC Comics and sold it for USD 100 million.Jason then became a professional turnaround leader and went on to transform distressed Indian Internet firms Housing.com, FreeCharge and Snapdeal, and advise giants like technology investor Softbank and real estate developer Emaar.In his book "Irrationally Passionate: My Turnaround from Rebel to Entrepreneur", Kothari share's his turnaround story and the many learnings from it with students and young entrepreneurs to help them in their journey.Published by Harper Business, the book tells how Kothari started as an assistant to Jackie Chan in Hong Kong, learned strategy from champion Muay Thai fighters in Thailand, tackled huge personal setbacks and became a CEO in 60 seconds, among many other stories.As the CEO of Housing.com, Kothari is credited with leading the transformation of the distressed company and a merger with News Corp's PropTiger to create the USD 350 million industry leader.Following this, he was the Chief Strategy &amp; Investment Officer of Snapdeal, where he played a lead role in transforming the distressed company from a monthly loss of over USD 20 million to a profit, the first for an Indian e-commerce company.He was also the CEO of FreeCharge, where he led the sale of the company to Axis Bank for USD 60 million.He says his book, releasing on March 11, is something all entrepreneurs are - "the risk and return profile of entrepreneurship never justifies becoming an entrepreneur".According to HarperCollins India publisher Krishan Chopra, "From a rebel teenager, to creating the third largest superhero entertainment company in the world, to his 'mission impossible' work in India's Internet space, the book tells you that you can create your own turnaround story at any stage in life."Kothari says his earliest brush with entrepreneurship was when he eight years old and he successfully negotiated with a vendor on the sun-baked streets of Agra on the way to the Taj Mahal with his parents.The vendor was charging Rs 500 for a chessboard but had to finally agree to Kothari's bargained price of Rs 30."Since that day in Agra I've been fortunate enough to negotiate dozens of deals totalling billions of dollars. But that first negotiation still holds a special place in my heart. It was the first of many steps along an entrepreneurial journey that transformed the trajectory of my life," he says.The key to success, according to him, is mastering the art of the turnaround."Not just in business but in life as well. Akshay is a man whom Jeff hand-picked after acquiring his startup Pulse, in 2013. Pulse, which was a mobile application that enabled users to create personalized news feeds, now is integrated into LinkedIn. While Akshay, an Indian got an immense exposure in the Valley, many start-ups have not scaled to such heights. 
 
‘I miss Silicon Valley. That was my home for almost a decade. While things in India are picking up for startups, they’re still behind compared to the US in terms of administrative issues. I remember starting out my company, Pulse with all incorporation, tax-filing etc. done within 24 hours in the valley. I never had to worry about such issues afterward. Startups in India cannot say the same,” says Akshay. 
“While things have become faster and easier for Indian startups, it is important to make everything smoother to match up to developed countries,” he adds, when asked about what he misses the most about silicon valley. 
 
So while LinkedIn tries to help start-ups get the right talent, the Indian government still might have to get them to the right platform, which is in the making.

Kothari see quality talent sprouting in the country

Skill with LinkedIn India This partnership is an initiative by LinkedIn to support the Indian government’s ‘Skill India’ mission and also expand its growing Indian member-base. India is the second biggest market for LinkedIn after the U.S. In India, some states have labour shortages and others have labour surplus which makes job placements challenging. <keyword id="1770138" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="allen-blue">Allen Blue</keyword>, Co-founder, LinkedIn told Business Insider, “Employers on the LinkedIn platform hire across management levels and while LinkedIn is known for discovering great white-collar jobs, there is a need for high skilled blue collar workers.  The course of time Under this partnership, IL&amp;FS will design and provide the skilling modules and training while LinkedIn will help the students cover the last mile from up-skilling to getting a job using the platform. LinkedIn has designed a separate interface for the students where they are able to create a profile, access learning content, build their network by connecting with classmates, seniors and instructors and get a job and the instruction is in a Hindi voice-over. The program starts this month at IL&amp;FS Skills Development Centres across India with the initial batch of 400 job-seekers looking for careers in hospitality. A single batch will undergo 45 days of training and LinkedIn aims to expand it to ten batches in 120 days.

Raj Sharma and Ash Chopra, both of whom work in Merrill Lynch’s Private Banking &amp; Investment Group, have been ranked 17th and 129 respectively, while Sonny Kothari of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management has been ranked 176. Raju Pathak of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, on the other hand, is placed at 184th rank. 
 
As per Forbes, the 200 members serve clients ranging from Silicon Valley billionaires to Wall Street titans, along with small business owners and family fortunes. 
 
"Most great fortunes have their roots in hard work, brilliant business decisions or savvy investing somewhere along the way (more often than not all three), But once the money is made, growing, preserving and passing it on to the next generation becomes paramount," Forbes said. 
 
"That's where a wealth advisor can come in handy," it added. 
 
The top spots have been grabbed by advisors affiliated with big wirehouses, including Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and UBS Regarding services.

“There’s still a lot of room for us to grow. Our vision is to create economic opportunities across the world, and that vision couldn’t be truer in India. He claims a lot of LinkedIn’s product innovation and optimization happens out of its India office in Bengaluru. 
 
“There are teams here that are building platforms to be used globally. All of the work we do around e-mail notifications, push notifications, spam and search verticals are done here”, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Akshay+Kothari&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Kothari</a> told Business Insider in an exclusive interview. 
 
On the India product side, the company has already started optimizing the portal to make it better suited for India. Co-founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Allen+Blue&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Blue</a> says it’s not always about adding but intelligently subtracting stuff. 
 
“Our new user registration is now optimized for slower network connectivity. We’re also producing localized content. We have an India Editor who curates content. That way the overall quality has improved a lot”, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Allen+Blue&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Blue</a> says. 
 
The company has not announced any expansion plans, but claims they’re ‘not discounting the option, and constantly evaluating opportunities.’
