But he still has more to learn when it comes to leading an army.</p><p>In the most recent episode of "Game of Thrones," titled "Battle of the Bastards," Snow led an army intent on recapturing Winterfell from the Boltons. After getting help from Sansa and Littlefinger, Jon takes back his home and Ramsay Bolton meets a deservedly gruesome end.</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIwpmwo7KWQ">In a behind the scenes feature put out by HBO</a>, Kit Harrington, who plays Snow, pointed out that the battle revealed one of his character's biggest flaws.</p><p>"Jon isn't a great leader in that battle. He can galvanize people to follow him. Jon ignores her warning and instead carries on with his original plan.</p><p>Jonis caught off guard when Ramsay produces Rickon Stark, Jon and Sansa's brother who is being held captive in Winterfell. Ramsay sets Rickon free on the battlefield and chases him with a barrage of arrows. Naturally, Jon, a man of honor, runs to try and save his brother. She'd be a great queen), Jon Snow seems to be the new de facto leader of Winterfell.</p><p>Snow could become a great general, but first he must learn from his mistakes. We have seen that he can inspire loyalty in his followers, but he's less knowledgeable about planning a battle, and could clearly use a little help. </p><p>Snow ignored Sansa's advice for dealing with Ramsay, but perhaps now he'll listen to her after she helped pull of a major victory. The Stark siblings could also look elsewhere for assistance, whether that's in battling the Lannisters or the White Walkers.</p><p>Many fans still subscribe to the theory that Jon Snow is secretly a Targaryen. If he finds out that he is related to Daenerys, she could help Snow make up for some of his flaws. Jon Snow botched a huge 'Game of Thrones' battle, and it's a fascinating development

The photo - a polaroid of the pair cuddling - is captioned: "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx."</p><p>Sheeran and Seaborn first met when they attended school together at Thomas Mills High School in the village of Framlingham in Suffolk, <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/2780157/ed-sheeeran-engaged-cherry-seaborn-fiancee/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to The Sun.</a></p><p>Sheeran <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5295607/The-jolly-hockey-sticks-girl-marrying-Ed-Sheeran.html">reportedly</a> had a crush on Seaborn even back then, despite her being in the year below.</p><p>After they finished their secondary education, Sheeran famously dropped out of school to pursue a career in music.</p><p>Seaborn, on the other hand, went to Durham University then flew across the Atlantic to study Molecular Biology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for a short stint. She <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/2780157/ed-sheeeran-engaged-cherry-seaborn-fiancee/">reportedly</a> chose the university for its hockey facilities, having captained her British team in back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013, <a href="http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209261823" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to her bio on the Duke website.</a></p><p>Despite their different career paths, the pair came together in 2015 when they bumped into each other in a bar in New York. Sheeran was touring at the time, and Seaborn was <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/2780157/ed-sheeeran-engaged-cherry-seaborn-fiancee/">reportedly</a> working as a risk strategist at an NYC-based consulting and advisory company.</p><p>They started dating, although their relationship was kept largely under wraps until Taylor Swift, a close friend of Sheeran, threw the happy couple a one-year anniversary party in 2016. Swift posted a photo of the couple to her Instagram, which has since been deleted.</p><p>Despite keeping their relationship largely private (there are only a few photos of the pair on Sheeran's social media accounts, while Seaborn's accounts are all private), Sheeran has been honest with the press regarding his feelings towards his now-fiancee.</p><p>In an interview on BBC Radio 2 in February 2017, Sheeran said: "I spent every day for a year with this certain person, we kind of have a strong relationship now, which is good.</p><p>"I'm really secure now, we live together and we have cats, and I think when you have cats that's kind of it."</p><p>And according to his engagement post, the couple's cats, Dorito (shown below) and Calippo, are "chuffed" with the news as well.</p><p>There's no word yet on when the pair is getting married. Alive, beyond a doubt."</span></p><p><span>So, it remains to be seen if the show's producers will follow Martin in the decision to bring Stannis back or continue on their own way. It would probably have ramifications for the war over the Iron Throne. </span></p><p><span>And as <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/690443/game-of-thrones-boss-george-r-r-martin-reveals-spoiler-is-still-alive-in-the-books" target="_blank">E!Online</a> pointed out, it shines a new light on Snow's (Kit Harrington) death, because his decision to take the Night Watch to Winterfell was made after he found out about Stannis' death. <p>When former "Saturday Night Live" star and current "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Andy Samberg digs in on stupidity, he really digs in. Take, for example, his latest project: a fake HBO Sports documentary titled, "Seven Days in Hell." This is the movie's promo image, which speaks volumes unto itself:<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/55a3df06371d22ce178b62ee-1201-376/screen shot 2015-07-13 at 11.52.37 am.png" alt="Seven Days in Hell" data-mce-source="HBO" /><p class="source"><span>HBO</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>The "mockumentary" features two (fake) professional tennis players - Aaron Williams (Samberg) and Charles Poole ("Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington) - and focuses on the (fake) seven day match they had at Wimbledon 2001. The entire film is shot from the perspective of a serious HBO Sports documentary, with expert interviews from both HBO Sports interviewers and professional tennis players. (Serena Williams and John McEnroe are prominently featured).</p><p>Let's be clear right up front: "Seven Days in Hell" is an amazing movie, and by far the funniest film I've seen in 2015. Like "Zoolander" or "Wet Hot American Summer," "Seven Days in Hell" takes absurdity well beyond the rational limit; it asks viewers to not just accept its stupidity, but to revel in that stupidity. It expects the same level of careful attention to detail to its stupidity that it lavishes on itself.</p><p>Take, for instance, a two minute scene wherein the mockumentary devolves into various "experts" offering commentary on a Swedish courtroom sketch artist's influence on courtroom sketch art around the world. He made a simple request of his viewers. "Imagine this for a second," he said. "One man, with total control of billions of people's stolen data. All their secrets, their lives, their futures." </p><p>Except it wasn't really the Facebook CEO. It was a digital replica of him <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/deepfakes-explained-the-rise-of-fake-realistic-videos-online-2019-6">known as a deepfake</a>: a phony video created using AI that can make it look like a person said or did something they have never actually done.  </p><p>Recognizable faces ranging from actor Kit Harrington <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jon-snow-apologizes-for-game-of-thrones-fake-video-2019-6">as Jon Snow from "Game of Thrones"</a> to former President Barack Obama have been the subject of such videos over the past year. And while these videos can be harmless, such as the clip of Jon Snow apologizing for the way the beloved HBO series ended, the technology has raised serious concerns about how manipulating videos and photos through artificial intelligence could potentially be used to spread misinformation or damage one's reputation. </p><p>And according to experts, the deepfake movement isn't likely to slow down anytime soon.</p><p>"Technologically speaking, there is nothing we can do," said Ali Farhadi, senior research manager for the computer vision group at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. "The technology is out there, [and] people can start using it in whatever way they can."</p><h2>'We're entering an era in which our enemies can make anyone say anything at any point in time'</h2><p>It's unclear precisely when deepfakes were invented, but the trend began to gain widespread attention in late 2017 when a fake porn video purporting to feature "Wonder Woman" actress Gal Godot was published on Reddit by a user who went by the pseudonym "deepfakes," as <a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/gydydm/gal-gadot-fake-ai-porn">Vice reported</a> at the time. </p><p>Since then, a range of doctored videos featuring high-profile celebrities and politicians have appeared online - some of which are meant to be satirical, others which have portrayed public figures in a negative light, and others which were created to prove a point. Videos of famous movie scenes that had been digitally altered to feature actor Nicholas Cage's face <a href="https://mashable.com/2018/01/31/nicolas-cage-face-swapping-deepfakes/">went viral in early 2018</a>, representing the lighter side of the spectrum showing how such tools could be used to foster entertainment.</p><p>Then last April, <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/craigsilverman/obama-jordan-peele-deepfake-video-debunk-buzzfeed?utm_term=.bxbj7Rqm7#.hsZ0VPeyV">BuzzFeed posted</a> an eerily realistic fake video showing former president Barack Obama saying words he had never spoken as part of an effort to spread awareness about the potential risks that come with using such technology in devious ways. "We're entering an era in which our enemies can make anyone say anything at any point in time," the Obama deepfake says in the video. </p><p><em><strong>Read more: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-google-facebook-apple-respond-to-tech-regulation-2019-7">Facebook, Google, and Apple are going on the defense as the battle cry to break up 'big tech' gets louder than ever</a></strong></em></p><p>Facebook also recently found itself in hot water after it <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nancy-pelosi-fake-video-facebook-news-2019-5">refused to take down</a> a slowed down video of  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that made it look as if she had been intoxicated. While that video wasn't technically a deepfake, it still raised questions about how easily video can be doctored and distributed. At the end of June, a controversial web app <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/deepnude-app-makes-deepfake-nudes-women-easy-revenge-porn-bullying-2019-6">called DeepNude</a> allowed users to create realistic naked images of women just by uploading photos to the app, demonstrating how such AI technologies could be used nefariously. The app has since been shut down.  </p><p>The manipulation of digital video and images is not new. But advancements in artificial intelligence, easier access to tools for altering video, and the scale at which doctored videos can be distributed are. Those latter two points are largely the reason why deepfakes may be prompting more concern than the rise of other photo and video editing tools in the past, says John Villasenor, a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a professor of electrical engineering, public policy, law, and management at the University of California, Los Angeles.</p><p>"Everyone's a global broadcaster now," said Villasenor. "So I think it's those two things together that create a fundamentally different landscape than we had when Photoshop came out."</p><p>Deepfakes are created by using training data - i.e. images or videos of a subject - to construct a three-dimensional model of a person, according to Villasenor. The amount of data required could vary depending on the system being used and the quality of the deepfake you're trying to create. Developing a convincing deepfake could require thousands of samples, says Farhadi, while Samsung developed an AI system that was able to generate a fabricated video clip <a href="https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-ai-deepfake-can-fabricate-a-video-of-you-from-a-single-photo-mona-lisa-cheapfake-dumbfake/">with just one photo</a>. </p><p>Even though the technology has become more accessible and sophisticated that it once was, it still requires some level of expertise such as an understanding of deep learning algorithms, says Farhadi. </p><p>"It's not like with a click of a button you start generating deepfakes," he says. "It's a lot of work." </p><h2>'An arms race'</h2><p>It's likely impossible to prevent deepfakes from being created or to prohibit them from spreading on social media and elsewhere. But even if it was possible to do so, outright banning deepfakes likely isn't the solution. That's because it's not the technology itself, but how it's being used, that can be problematic, says Maneesh Agrawala, the Forest Baskett Professor of Computer Science and director of the Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Stanford University. So eliminating deepfakes may not address the root of the issue. </p><p>"Misinformation can still be presented even if the video is 100% real," said Agrawala. "So the concern that we have is with misinformation, not so much with the technologies that are creating these videos."</p><p>That begs the question as to what can be done to prevent deepfakes from being used in dangerous ways that potentially could cause harm. Experts seem to agree that there are two potential approaches: technological solutions that can detect when a video has been doctored and legal frameworks that penalize those who use the technology to smear others. Neither avenue is fool-proof, and it's still unclear how such fixes would work.</p><p>Although a clear solution doesn't exist yet, the question over how to address deepfakes has been a topic of discussion within Congress in recent months. Last December, Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska proposed a bill known as the "<a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/3805/text">Malicious Deep Fake Prohibition Act of 2018</a>," which seeks to prohibit "fraudulent audiovisual records."  The "<a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/3230/text">DEEP FAKES Accountability Act</a>" proposed by New York Democratic Representative Yvette Clarke in June requires that altered media is clearly labeled as such with a watermark. The proposed bill would also impose civil and criminal penalties for violations.</p><p>But imposing legislation to crack down on deepfakes in a way that doesn't infringe on free speech or impact public discourse could be challenging, even if such rules do provide exceptions for entertainment content, as the <a href="https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/06/congress-should-not-rush-regulate-deepfakes">Electronic Frontier Foundation</a> notes.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/ByaVigGFP2U/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=embed_video_watch_again">Zuckerberg deepfake,</a> for example, was created as part of an exhibit for a documentary festival. "I think it's important to be careful and nuanced in how we talk about the potential for damage," says Agrawala, who along with other researchers from Stanford, Max Planck Institute for Informatics, Princeton University, and Adobe Research created an algorithm that can <a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1906.01524">edit talking-head videos through text</a>. "I think there are a number of really important use cases for that kind of technology."</p><p>Plus, taking legal action is often time-consuming, which could make it difficult to use legal measures to mitigate potential harm stemming from deepfakes.</p><p>"Election cycles are influenced over the course of sometimes days or even hours with social media, so if someone wants to take legal action that could take weeks or even months," says Villasenor. This can be done by using algorithms that are similar to those that have been developed to create deepfakes in the first place, since that data can be used to train the detectors. </p><p>But that may not be very helpful for detecting more sophisticated deepfakes as they continue to evolve, says Sean Gourley, the founder and CEO of Primer AI, a machine intelligence firm that builds products for analyzing large data sets. </p><p>"You can kind of think of this like zero-day attacks in the cybersecurity space," says Gourley. "The zero-day attack is one that no one's seen before, and thus has no defenses against."     </p><p>As is often the case with cybersecurity, it can be difficult for those trying to solve issues and patch bugs to remain one step ahead of malicious actors. The same goes for deepfakes, says Villasenor.</p><p>"It's sort of an arms race," he says. There's a terrifying trend on the internet that could be used to ruin your reputation, and no one knows how to stop it

Chief among those opposed to Gorsuch are abortion-rights groups, who believe Gorsuch would facilitate the erosion of reproductive rights. </p><p>Immediately after President Donald Trump announced Gorsuch's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-trump-supreme-court-nominee-2017-1">nomination in January</a>, prominent reproductive rights groups, including Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice, launched a campaign to oppose Gorsuch. </p><p>"Neil Gorsuch is more conservative than Justice Scalia and will betray the rights of women, LGBTQ people, and workers," NARAL President <span>Ilyse Hogue said in <a href="https://www.prochoiceamerica.org/2017/03/22/naral-response-reports-deal-gorsuch/">a March statement</a>.</span> "Any deal with Republicans to put him on the bench would not only endanger a generation worth of progress but be politically stupid for Democrats."</p><p>Abortion rights groups see the impact of Gorsuch's confirmation as the most potentially devastating to reproductive rights in recent memory. </p><p><span>"There has never been a more important Supreme Court nomination," Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood of America, said in a January statement. </span></p><p><span></span>While Gorsuch has never ruled directly on abortion, he has decided cases concerning contraception and funding for Planned Parenthood, ruling that corporations have a religious right not to provide their employees with health insurance coverage for birth control, and voting to rehear a case that stopped the governor of Utah from defunding Planned Parenthood. </p><p>Since January, activists have pressured Democratic Senators to filibuster a procedural vote on Gorsuch, which, according to current rules, would block a confirmation vote. Fifty-five abortion rights groups signed <a href="http://static.politico.com/6f/ee/4c59ce1e416e9a177ce4d0a4d914/abortion-letter.pdf">a letter</a> in mid-March urging senators to "do everything necessary to block" Gorsuch's confirmation. </p><p>NARAL has organized actions and anti-Gorsuch protests across the country, petitioned the Senate, and delivered a "Filibuster Survival Kit," which included shoe inserts, eye drops, and messages of support, to Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who pledged to filibuster.</p><p>During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Gorsuch did say that Roe is precedent and "has been reaffirmed many times," but managed to say very little else about his views on reproductive rights. </p><p><span>"Beyond acknowledging the existence of Roe v. Wade as precedent, for example, he didn't disclose any further information about how he views that case or all of the cases that come from a similar understanding of the constitution as protecting personal, individual rights," David Brown, a senior staff attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights, told Business Insider. </span></p><p>But the White House has made its position on abortion quite clear. Trump has repeatedly promised to appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court - a move that <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/19/trump-ill-appoint-supreme-court-justices-to-overturn-roe-v-wade-abortion-case.html">he said</a> would "automatically" reverse Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision establishing the right to an abortion. Reproductive rights groups <a href="http://static.politico.com/6f/ee/4c59ce1e416e9a177ce4d0a4d914/abortion-letter.pdf">called this</a> assertion an "outrageous litmus test."</p><p>As governor of Indiana, Vice President Mike Pence<span> enacted some of the strictest antiabortion laws in the country, and, last week, Pence <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pence-tiebreak-senate-vote-family-planning-planned-parenthood-2017-3-2">cast the tie-breaking vote</a> on legislation that would cut funding<span> for Planned Parenthood and other family planning clinics. </span></span></p><p>When Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham asked Gorsuch whether, in a meeting with the president, Trump had asked him to rule against Roe, Gorsuch responded that if he had been asked, he "would have walked out the door." </p><p><span>"I have offered no promises on how I'd rule to anyone on any case," he said, adding that</span><span> he doesn't believe in litmus tests for judges. </span></p><p><span>But Brown argues that Gorsuch could have done more to reject Trump's test. </span></p><p><span>"H<span>e certainly didn't refuse to accept the nomination until the president clarified that the litmus test wasn't operative," Brown said. "He could have taken that strategy if he wanted to, and he didn't."</span></span></p><p><span>But most reproductive rights advocates don't fear for the short-term future of Roe v. Wade, given that both Supreme Court precedent and the majority of the American public support the right to abortion.</span></p><p>Pew Research Center polls have found that 59% of American adults today support the right to an abortion in general and 69% want the Supreme Court to uphold Roe - both numbers that have risen over time.</p><p><span>"We know that most Americans support access to contraception, access to birth control, the individual right to make the most important life decision, such as whether and when to have children," Brown said. </span></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/58e5546b77bb70a0428b64b5-1280" alt="American views on overturning Roe v. Wade</p></img></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><span>Because Gorsuch would replace another conservative justice, Antonin Scalia, who passed away last year, the Court's balance on reproductive rights issues will remain the same. </span><span>But, given that three of the Court's liberal justices are over 75 years old, Trump may get the chance to nominate a second justice to the Court. </span></p><p><span>Brown says the question of whether Roe will ever be reversed is thus one for the "<span>medium</span><span> to long term."</span></span> </p><p>But Gorsuch's nomination comes amid an unprecedented wave of new anti-abortion legislation in states across the country.</p><p>Since 2010, 338 laws restricting access to abortion services have been enacted by state legislatures. These bills account for about a third of the total laws passed restricting abortion since Roe v. Wade was decided 44 years ago, <a href="https://www.guttmacher.org/article/2017/01/policy-trends-states-2016">according to the Guttmacher Institute</a>. </p><p>Many of these laws, which include requirements that fetal tissue - whether from an abortion or a miscarriage - be cremated or buried, and that doctors investigate a woman's "entire pregnancy history" before providing her with abortion services, are being challenged in federal court. Several will undoubtedly come before the Supreme Court over the next few years.</p><p><a href="http://hls.harvard.edu/faculty/directory/10176/Cohen">Glenn Cohen</a>, a health-law expert and professor at Harvard Law School, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/if-roe-v-wade-overturned-supreme-court-abortion-trump-2016-12">told Business Insider</a> in February that two kinds of laws provide the most likely paths for SCOTUS to overturn or undermine Roe.</p><p><span>The first are those that <span>ban abortions when a fetus can feel pain, and the second are those <span>that impose strict requirements on abortion clinics and providers (<span>activists call these </span><a href="https://www.reproductiverights.org/project/targeted-regulation-of-abortion-providers-trap">Targeted Restrictions on Abortion Providers</a><span>, or TRAP laws). </span></span></span></span></p><p>What abortion rights groups fear is that the Supreme Court will uphold these laws, gradually eroding the rights that Roe v. Wade protects - a method they call "death by 1,000 cuts," Brown said. </p><p><span>"I am very pessimistic about it, and that's because I'm thinking about the range of ways Roe can fall that would not require the Supreme Court to actually say, 'We are overruling Roe v. Wade,'" <a href="http://www.law.indiana.edu/about/people/bio.php?name=johnsen-dawn#profile-biography">Dawn Johnsen</a><span>, a constitutional scholar at Indiana University and a former legal director of </span><a href="http://www.naral.org/">NARAL Pro-Choice America</a>, told Business Insider <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/if-roe-v-wade-overturned-supreme-court-abortion-trump-2016-12">in February</a>. </span></p><p><span>She added: "We've seen the kinds of laws that would shut clinics, and ban abortions for reasons, and force women to be interrogated by their doctors - and that all could be upheld without the Supreme Court actually saying, 'We're overruling Roe v. In an exclusive chat with Business Insider, 29-year-old Sid Mallya opened up about his passion for acting, Brahman Naman and his disinterest in Bollywood movie offers.<br />

<strong>Would you say gravitating towards acting as a career choice was a natural progression?</strong><br />
<br />
You could say so. Growing up in England and going to a boarding school, I was always part of school plays and loved doing anything that was out there in terms of performance, from plays and recitals to debating. Infact, I was barely 4 years old when I did my first play. It probably stems from being an only child and always commanding the centre of attraction. Regardless, I loved being on the stage, so in a way I knew acting was my calling. But, hailing from a business family, I knew I had to give business a go before I pursued anything else.<br />

<br />
<strong>How did your parents feel about you choosing acting over business?</strong><br />
<br />
Understandably, there were expectations of me following into my father’s footsteps —but again that’s a very Indian thing; the assumption that the son or daughter has to take over the reins of a family-owned business.<br />
<br />
Lucky for me, both my mother and father were very supportive and understanding of my decision because they knew I was determined and would give it my all.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>How would you describe your experience at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama?</strong><br />
<br />
It has been the most incredible year. The training I’ve received here is unbelievable. There were 20 of us in this master’s course and in 10 weeks we’ve been reprogrammed entirely. It’s been a very holistic approach to acting in that we’ve been taught to work through the body and how everything is connected. For instance, we’ve been taught that if your feet are out of place, it means your knees are out of place, which means the hips are out of place, which means the diaphragm is out of place, which means your chest is too tight, which means that your voice won’t come out properly. I was never a big believer in holistic medicine and all that but now I’m a complete convert.<br />
<br />
You know, this is why they say that British drama schools can’t be matched, especially the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. This 110-year-old institution boasts of immensely talented British actors as alumni. It trained actors like Dame Judi Dench, Laurence Olivier, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=andrew+garfield&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Andrew Garfield</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kit+harrington&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Kit Harrington</a>, among others and getting the same level of training as these people has not only changed me as a performer but also gives me some legitimacy so once I’m done people know that I’m of a certain standard.<br />

<strong>What made you want to debut with Brahman Naman, as most people wouldn’t consider it as an usual debut vehicle?</strong><br />
<br />
When it comes to Bollywood most often people, especially star kids are launched into starring roles. They all start as lead characters and not a as supporting cast. On the other hand, none of these models exist in the West- where you are required to build up a body of work and progress from smaller to larger things and keep climbing your way up.<br />
<br />
Likewise for me, a debut was never about being launched into a starring role and it was never about Bollywood. Infact, Bollywood never enticed me.<br />
<br /> What I loved about this film was the diverse set of people I would get to work with from <keyword id="215119" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Steve-Barron">Steve Barron</keyword> to Q. Steve had directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1990 and it was one of my favourite films growing up. I’ve also seen bits and part’s of Q’s Gandu and immensely loved it, so to get a chance to work with people I admire in my first film itself was part of the reason I agreed.<br />
<br />
Moreover, while my role in the movie isn’t a leading role, it’s a nice-sized role to start my career off. It gives me credibility and is something I’d be proud of in years to come. At the end of the day, people need to be realistic- I’m not an established actor and I’m working my way up like anyone else in the industry and I’m very fortunate for this to come.<br />

<strong>Tell us a little bit about your role in the film?</strong><br />
<br />
Ronnie is the antagonist – he’s not Naman’s (played by Shashank Arora) nemesis but his rival. My character is that of a cricket-playing jock, who is rich, goodlooking, popular and gets all the girls. There’s a very clear difference between Shashank’s character who has all the answers up in his head but has zero clue when it comes to social interactions and mine. Mine’s the opposite. He’s great at social interactions but not the sharpest.<br />

<strong>What was the hardest part about your role?</strong><br />
<br />
The character of Ronnie was wrote in a way that it was implied that he had spent some time in England, but I couldn’t speak in the out and out British accent I have- so I did have to tone it down slightly but at the same time the hardest part was making sure he didn’t come across as comical.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>How was it working with Q?</strong><br />
<br />
It was fantastic. Q will always have a special place in my heart as he’s the first director I ever worked with and if I’m lucky enough to have the same relationship with the rest of directors that I had with him I’d consider myself fortunate. He’s on point, energetic, very precise and doesn’t take himself too seriously and that’s what the film is about.<br />
<br />
When you have people like that, it automatically instills a sense of ease and the level of comfort that you could share with him was the best thing about him. Q also isn’t afraid to push the boat he does what he wants to do. Films are art and art is subjective. You show the same Picasso painting to 100 people and you get 100 opinions and Q isn’t afraid of opinions- he just does his thing. The people who create the best art are the ones that are unafraid.<br />

<strong>Brahman Naman has been labelled as an intelligent sex comedy and also been touted as India’s American Pie. How did you feel about the storyline of the movie?</strong><br />
<br />
Set in Bangalore in the 80’s, Brahman Naman is an intelligent, fast-paced, beautifully written comedy about a set of quizzers travelling to Calcutta for a competition while wanting to lose their virginity in the process, So, yeah it involves teenage boys and lots of sex.<br />
<br />
In one of the interviews that Q and Naman gave at Sundance, they said that nowadays the youth are always on their mobile phones either on Twitter or Instagram but back in the day none of this tech existed. Now we take selfies. Back then, teenage boys would think ‘Why would anyone want to take our picture?’ So, they would find alternative forms of amusement for themselves. That’s what the storyline is about. It’s a storyline where boys are going to be boys. What works for it is the fact that it is so relatable. Everyone, regardless of where they grew up knew a Naman. To summarise, the movie is about friendship and a bunch of awkward boys trying to do what boys do!<br />

<strong>What are your expectations from the movie when it releases globally on July 7?</strong><br />
<br />
Brahman Naman will be like a breath of fresh air – it’s very different. It is also Netflix’s first ever Indian original. The platform has such global prestige and if they’re willing to hedge this obviously it’s going to do very well. It’s also such a relatable story so I’m hoping it will do very well.<br />

<strong>Do you have any other projects lined up?</strong><br />
<br />
I did a film last summer called Homecoming. Small role, but I got to work with a superb director, acting opposite some great people. Getting the opportunity to do even one scene is invaluable. My focus now is finishing school and then getting back on the audition trail.<br />

<br />
<strong>So does that mean we’ll never see you in any Bollywood movie?</strong><br />
<br />
Not at all. I mean, I could’ve put some money together and launched myself in a Bollywood movie if I wanted to, but that’s not what I want to do. I don’t relate to commercial Indian films at all. I want to build credibility, not be given a role in a movie because I’m related to someone in the industry. I'm not for Bollywood and Bollywood is sadly not for me.<br />
