<ul><li>From Facebook to Uber, these are the new industry appointments for country’s top corporate honchos. </li><li>These appointments have shocked quite a few in the country. </li><li>Most of the hires have been made to turn around the fates of the companies and make inroads into the Indian digital market.</li></ul>The Indian digital space has been booming at a fast rate and the past two years have seen a big rejig in the top management of all the big offices. From Facebook to Uber, every other company making major inroads into the Indian digital market has seen a new person take charge. These hires have mostly been from within the Indian industry, bringing on board expertise to scale the companies. Here’s a look at the top juggle in the past year. Many of these moves came as a shock but were largely welcomed.

<keyword id="5569898" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="facebook-india-ceo-umang-bedi">Facebook India CEO Umang Bedi</keyword> has put in his papers after working at the social media giant for 15 months, ET reported. <keyword id="736869" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook-India">Facebook India</keyword> confirmed the development, “We confirm that <keyword id="941091" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Umang-Bedi">Umang Bedi</keyword> will be leaving his role at Facebook at the end of this year. He’s built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best,” a company spokesperson said. <keyword id="2799363" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sandeep-Bhushan">Sandeep Bhushan</keyword> has been appointed as the interim managing director. Bhushan, who is a former Samsung IT and mobile business director, handled the new revenue streams from FMCG advertisers for Facebook across the region. Prior to Samsung, Bhushan was vice president, digital for HT Media. Facebook had appointed the former Adobe South Asia region MD Umang Bedi in June last year to build and maintain strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. At Adobe, Bedi was responsible for growing their business in India and helping India grow to amongst the leading markets for Adobe. He succeeded <keyword id="1158117" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirthiga-Reddy">Kirthiga Reddy</keyword> at Facebook, who returned to the US to take on a new role at the company’s headquarters at Menlo Park. At the time of appointment Bedi had termed the new role as a promising opportunity, "I am thrilled to join Facebook and am looking forward to working with the talented teams in India, to help brands and agencies grow their business on our platform. For me it's a promising opportunity to participate in India's digital growth, and I can't think of a better place to be at.", he had said after being appointed. Facebook users in India have crossed 240-million mark becoming the largest audience country for the social media giant, according a recent media report stated. As of 13 July, Facebook reported a total “potential audience” of 241 million active users in India, compared with 240 million in the US. Active users in India are up 27% in the past six months alone (+50 million), compared to growth of 12% (+26 million) in the US over the same period. Despite these strong gains, social media penetration in India remains relatively low, with just 19% of the country’s total population using Facebook in June. That compares to 73% penetration in the US, and a global average of around 42%, the report said.

Facebook India CEO Umang Bedi quits after 15 months of joining the social media giant

Facebook has appointed <keyword id="941091" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Umang-Bedi">Umang Bedi</keyword> as the Managing Director for its India business, and in his new role, he would be responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. 

	<keyword id="1158117" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kirthiga-Reddy">Kirthiga Reddy</keyword>, the present MD, will be moving back to the States to take on her new role in the Global Accounts team at the company’s Menlo Park, California headquarters. 
	 
	Umang brings to Facebook almost two decades of his leadership experience in a variety of fields, including sales, marketing and partnerships. In the past, he has successfully built teams and grown businesses for several multinational companies. 

	He was the MD of the South Asia region at Adobe before joining Facebook, responsible for growing their India business and helping India feature amongst the leading markets for Adobe in the APAC and global regions. 

	“India is known for its great talent pool and we are really pleased to have Umang Bedi, a proven business executive to lead our business in India. I also want to wish Kirthiga the very best in her new global role. Kirthiga has played a huge and key role in building our India business from scratch, and I know she will continue to deliver the same impact in the US.” said Dan Neary, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Facebook. 

	He further added, “Facebook is where people and businesses connect on mobile and with close to 150 million monthly active people in India, we see significant opportunities to help Indian business - large and small - deliver against their business objectives in the mobile world.” 

	Umang was quoted saying, “I am thrilled to join Facebook and am looking forward to working with the talented teams in India, to help brands and agencies grow their business on our platform. For me it’s a promising opportunity to participate in India's digital growth, and I can’t think of a better place to be at.” 

	Umang, who did his engineering from University of Pune, is also an alumni of Harvard Business School and has received the prestigious ‘40 Under Forty: India's Hottest Business Leaders Award 2014’ given by The Economic Times and Spencer Stuart in 2014. 

	“After six years in India building our operations and business, it’s hard to leave a team I now call family. The good news is that we will continue to work together. As I look ahead, I am excited about how well positioned our business is, to grow from strength to strength with Umang’s leadership, and with my next opportunity to shape and drive our emerging markets strategy across some of the world’s biggest brands,” said Reddy.

In an announcement made ironically on <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword>, the social networking site's <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> head, <keyword id="1158117" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kirthiga-Reddy">Kirthiga Reddy</keyword>, has said she is stepping down and plans to return to the US where she has "begun to explore new opportunities at back at Menlo Park" in California. 
 
Her announcement comes at the end of a week which began with a huge setback to the social network giant with India banning internet providers from charging users different rates for different sorts of content. 
 The decision means that Facebook's free internet program, <keyword id="3073276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Free-Basics">Free Basics</keyword>, has been rejected here. Facebook subsequently shut down Free Basics in India. 
 
Ms Reddy, Facebook's first employee in India, said her family's intent was always to return to the US and her children's schooling makes this the right time to head back. 
 
She said it will be "business as-usual over the next 6-12 months" and she will help find a successor over the period." 
 
 
 Facebook founder <keyword id="6354630" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mark-Zuckerberg">Mark Zuckerberg</keyword> had championed Free Basics which he said would deliver internet services to lakhs of rural Indians. The scheme offered pared-down internet access to Facebook messaging services and content from Facebook's partners at no charge.

You start reading a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-job-interview-tools-final-round-otter-2024-7">response generated by artificial intelligence</a> from the side of your screen — maybe even using another app to make it appear your eyes are fixed on the camera.It can feel like there are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/overemployed/comments/12ovaxk/chatgpt_to_cheat_on_interviews/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web3x&amp;utm_name=web3xcss&amp;utm_term=1&amp;utm_content=share_button">endless ways</a> to dupe a hiring manager in a job interview — especially one that doesn't involve meeting IRL. The internet is, of course, filled with posts about how people try to sneak <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/overemployed/comments/12ovaxk/chatgpt_to_cheat_on_interviews/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web3x&amp;utm_name=web3xcss&amp;utm_term=1&amp;utm_content=share_button">past the difficult questions</a> interviewers sometimes ask.It all points to a hiring process that can be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/went-through-a-dozen-interviews-didnt-get-the-job-2024-7">terrible for job seekers</a> — and for employers.Execs told Business Insider that to improve the hiring process, more conversations will need to be had about <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tech-interviewers-cant-tell-job-candidates-use-chatgpt-cheat-coding-2024-2">what constitutes cheating</a>. Many employers will also need to better explain how the application process will unfold so fewer job seekers might be tempted to get sneaky."A lot of the efforts to cheat come from the fact that hiring is so broken. So you're just like, 'Oh my God, how do I get through? How do I get seen? How to get assessed fairly?'" Lindsey Zuloaga, chief data scientist at HireVue, told BI.<h2 id="4890baa2-962a-4d05-81d1-b71bfa23fd5b">Is using AI during a job interview cheating?</h2>Part of the problem now is that not everyone agrees on what's unethical. There are easy calls, like having someone feed you answers during an interview. But what about a quick internet search to look something up? Or how about having an AI bot ingest a job description and toss out questions that could come up in an interview?Zuloaga pointed to using chatbots to complete coding challenges as one example of a question without a clear answer."Customers have different views on whether using ChatGPT is even cheating or not," she said, adding that, according to one line of thinking, "it's just part of the developer's toolbox now."Zuloaga said employers can take simple steps like defining what cheating means and what the expectations are."They can say, 'Hey, we want to hear from the real you. Although tools like ChatGPT can be really useful in preparation for an interview, please speak from your own experience,'" she said.Zuloaga said there isn't a reliable way to detect when a candidate might be using generative AI, but that one tell might appear when a job seeker's answers lack specifics."Are they speaking comfortably and fluidly about things that they actually did?" she said.Genuine answers, Zuloaga said, usually involve candidates walking through their experiences and the problems that they've solved.<h2 id="101e0e22-12a7-4374-be2c-c3e029735918">Employers are trying to fight cheating during interviews</h2>Kirthiga Reddy is CEO of Virtualness, a startup that uses blockchain technology to authenticate certifications workers can earn through formal education or various boot camps.She told BI that it's often too easy for people to say in an interview that they have completed coursework or training on a subject and even slap a phony achievement onto their résumé.Reddy, who previously worked as a managing director for India and South Asia at Facebook, said the cost of verifying workers' credentials is high, both for employers and workers.Virtualness, which launched in late 2023, hopes that by using technology to verify a worker's credentials, employers can worry less about the risks of taking on people who don't have the skills they claim or, worse, those who might have nefarious intentions. It can also help workers who have actually earned credentials stand out.Reddy said that even if people who misrepresent themselves get caught, those with fake bona fides could have kept more honest job seekers from making it through the application process."You might have missed out on really great candidates or have included a bunch of candidates who you should not have included in that whole search process," she said.<h2 id="f9b392a1-e925-4ac6-98dd-158331dc14ee">Why it might be tempting to cheat</h2>Zuloaga said part of the push to cheat comes from job seekers' exasperation over what can be an arduous process. That can include what feels like unending interviews.Octavius A. Newman previously told BI he went through a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/people-looking-for-jobs-enduring-many-rounds-of-interviews-2024-7">dozen interviews</a> for a role as a creative lead and didn't get the job.A drawn-out process isn't necessarily helpful for either side, according to Jennifer Schielke, CEO of the staffing firm Summit Group Solutions and author of "Leading for Impact."She tells clients they should be ready to hire as soon as they advertise a role. As Schielke previously told BI, layoffs and lengthy job searches have left many people looking for work without a sense of security.Ravin Jesuthasan, coauthor of "The Skills-Powered Organization" and global leader for transformation services at the consulting firm Mercer, told BI that one challenge around hiring is that both sides are using AI more often.Employers are using it in the hiring process, and candidates are using it to beef up their applications, help with interview prep, and even <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/job-applications-hiring-ai-bots-spam-resume-cover-letter-2024-3">apply for jobs</a>. And some, of course, are using it to cheat."It feels like this is an arms race that is just going to keep accelerating," he said. "I'm not sure that there is an end in sight."

The undisclosed amount was raised at a valuation of $33 million by diluting less than 15% equity.
