The bravery of the people involved can't be discounted, but <keyword id="6355118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="technology">technology</keyword> had a large part to play as well. At most it's being used for<a href="http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report-govt-plans-to-use-drones-for-spatial-survey-across-maharashtra-2635229"> spatial surveys</a> and<a href="https://factordaily.com/drones-for-precision-agriculture-in-india/"> precision agriculture</a>. Urban flooding, a paradigm that India is still grappling with, could find real relief in such a measure. An abundant water supply is a boon for agriculture, and on the other hand floods have the potential to wreck in, an otherwise, fruitful season. This measure, and others which are similar, are already being implemented in few areas in India. For example, Grundfos India<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Grundfos-mobile-pumping-station-used-in-Chennai-to-pump-out-flood-water/articleshow/50140951.cms"> provides</a> the Chennai City Corporation with mobile pumping stations that are specifically designed for floods. Even Mumbai<a href="http://www.freepressjournal.in/mumbai/mumbai-rains-crores-spent-on-procurrement-of-pumps-flowed-into-the-floods/1128756"> spends</a> crores on pumps to dewater the city. 4. Calling Houston The devices that were originally used to contact the missing football team weren't new-age, but actually 20-years old. Issued by Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation, these HeyPhones can<a href="https://hub.packtpub.com/the-tech-supporting-the-thai-cave-rescue-mission/"> operate</a> on such a low frequency that those waves can pass through thick rock walls. More than that, the Thai rescue team also got in touch with Maxtech Networks, an Israeli communication company. These guys provided 19 special handheld devices that could<a href="https://www.jewishnews.net.au/israeli-tech-aids-thai-cave-rescue/79552"> boost</a> the power of the default radio by 20 times. The system works on a 'daisy chain' mechanism that hops voice, video and data from one device to the next. One of the main obstacles that have to be overcome in emergency disasters is communication. Regardless of whether it is <keyword id="44522" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword> or <keyword id="6358126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword>, the gigantic spans of the mountains makes communication a hurdle. Even in 2014, the<a href="http://www.rediff.com/news/report/kashmir-flooded-with-woes-landslides-no-connectivity-communication-hit/20140909.htm"> Kashmir</a> valley was faced with no connectivity and isolation from the outside world when the floods hit. Floods are not a new phenomenon in India and the headline has, too often, been that poor preparedness is what caused of the disaster. Integrating some tech, making information more public and having some sort of integrated system in place are only the most basic of requirements.

Here's what India can learn from the Thailand cave rescue

Udipi Vasudeva Rao popularly known as UV Rao, the former managing director and CEO of engineering giant <keyword id="2701220" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Larsen-and-Toubro-Limited">Larsen and Toubro Limited</keyword>, has passed away. Prior to his death, he was serving as the independent director on the Board of <keyword id="616953" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirloskar-Brothers-Limited">Kirloskar Brothers Limited</keyword>. 
	 
	“We regret to inform you that UV Rao, an Independent Director of our company has passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015. He was 85 years old. As a result, he has ceased to be a Director of the company with effect from January 24, 2015,” the company said in its statement. 
	 
	Previously, Rao has served as the president of Indian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association, the apex body for industrial and electrical goods manufacturers. He was also the honorary counsel general for Denmark for Western India as well as the former chairman of Indo-Danish Business Committee. 
	 
	Rao was also a part of the Capital Goods Committee of the Planning Commission. Apart from this, he was also on the Boards of TIL Limited, John Fowler India Private Limited, Dickinson Fowler Private Limited.

 The body is being brought up to the mouth of the mine under the supervision of doctors — and the hunt is still on for the remaining 14 miners. The efforts to rescue the miners were halted altogether two weeks into the operation when the pumps available to the state government gave out under stress. It was only then that firefighters from Odisha and the Indian Navy were called in to help. Even <keyword id="45383" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-India">Coal India</keyword> Limited and Kirloskar Brother Limited stepped in to offer high-capacity submersible pumps to help with the process. The flooding from the Lytein river created a situation that even Indian Navy divers couldn’t go deep enough to access the rat holes until the water in the mine was taken out. Dangers of mining practices in this part of the country is exactly why the National Green Tribunal (NGT) banned mining in Meghalaya in 2014. Despite the ban, mining practices have continued. In early January, two miners died in an illegal <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/more-illegal-mining-in-india-the-state-of-meghalaya-has-more-questions-than-answers/articleshow/67419109.cms">‘side cutting’ mine</a> in another part of the state.
