<p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Weebly</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Weebly has hired former Path <keyword id="53346" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CFO">CFO</keyword> and Google finance executive Kim Jabal as its first finance chief. </p><p class="p1"><span>Weebly was founded in 2007 and has grown into a</span><span> global platform that allows users to easily create unique websites, blogs, and online stores. </span></p><p class="p1"><span>The San Francisco-based <span>tech startup</span> raised $35 million in April 2014, for a valuation of $455 million. The company has been cash positive since 2009 and has not touched any of the money it raised from its series C round.</span></p><p class="p1">Jabal will be responsible for operating the finances of an organization with more than 300 employees and 250 million unique monthly visitors across its network of sites.</p><p class="p1">Weebly cofounder and CEO<em> </em>David Rusenko tells Business Insider that the time is right to bring in someone with Jabal's experience.  </p><p class="p1">"<span>As the organization scales up and requires a </span>new<span> level of management, Kim's e<span>xperience and expertise is </span>absolutely fantastic," <span>Rusenko says.</span> "Over the next few years as we continue to grow, we will rely increasingly on her knowledge." </span></p><p class="p2">Jabal says she brings two major areas of focus to Weebly: "I bring a fair amount of experience in terms of scaling a business, and I have also worked in early enough stage companies that have taught me how to navigate growth and understand when it's the right time to put the right products and systems into place, and when it's the right time to move quickly."</p><p class="p2">"Taking Google from $1 billion to $36 billion as a core member of the finance team was an extraordinary experience that gave me the ability to figure out how and when to build structure, particularly in regards to finance and accounting, people operations, and customers operations," she says. "Having gone through that experience at Google has been very helpful over the last few years at smaller companies."</p><p class="p1"><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Weebly</span></p><p class="caption">Kim Jabal.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Jabal joins Weebly at a time of technological advancement at the firm. In October, Weebly launched Carbon, the third generation of its popular website-building software. The company also launched a new mobile app with a built-in app center, debuted a new website editor, built out its developer APIs, and debuted a new team function. </span></p><p class="p1"><span><span>Rusenko says the company will continue to expand when it opens a new office in Berlin in a few weeks, adding to its European presence, which already includes employees in Paris and London. </span></span></p><p class="p1"><span><span>Jabal says she decided to come on board because Weebly proved to be a very responsible company when it comes to finances, even as it has continued to experience rapid growth.  </span></span></p><p class="p1"><span><span>"The growth opportunities are significant, and the company has been super judicious around their spending," she says. "I will be working closely with David and our team to figure out how to invest in the right places in a thoughtful way."</span></span></p><p class="p1">"This is a really interesting space right now, and Weebly is positioned to grab market share, particularly overseas," <span>Jabal continues. "</span>We have launched new payment methods and other support features outside the US, which will help grow the company.<span> The new carbon launch is going to provide better tools and services for customers and really grow the business and revenue opportunitie</span>s."</p><p class="p2">With growth will come the need to spend more money. Rusenko says the $35 million funding round will soon be utilized under Jabal's guidance. "We intend to use the money," he says. "We just happen to operate in a thoughtful and deliberate manner." </p><p class="p2">Jabal most recently worked as the CFO of mobile app Path. During her time with the company Jabal says she learned how to grow a user base at scale while remaining nimble, "but also thoughtful and judicious." Tech startup Weebly hires former Google executive Kim Jabal as its first CFO

<p>With those moves, we believe Path CEO <keyword id="274435" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dave-Morin">Dave Morin</keyword> is sending a signal about his ambitions for long-term independence.</p>
<p>AllThingsD reports that Path <a href="http://allthingsd.com/20130306/path-hires-ex-google-lytro-finance-head-as-new-cfo/">just hired Kim Jabal</a>, formerly of camera maker Lytro, as its CFO. That's a high-level position; most startups make do with a VP of finance.</p>
<p>And Business Insider has learned that Path has also hired Anne Toth, a former chief privacy  officer at Yahoo and Google, as a consultant.</p>
<p>She's going to <a href="http://blog.path.com/post/42023928427/path-and-the-ftc">work on compliance issues with a settlement the company reached with the Federal Trade Commission</a>. The FTC levied an $800,000 fine on the startup after it was found uploading users' address books without their explicit consent and allowing children under the age of 13 to sign up for accounts.</p>
<p>Morin has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/path-ceo-dave-morin-hbo-nbc-2013-2">talked about his plans to make money directly from Path users via subscriptions</a>, rather than from advertising, though it hasn't unveiled any subscription products yet. (It sells filters for enhancing photos, though in our experience of using Path, we've never seen anyone use them.)</p>
<p>Path, which limits users to mobile devices where they can keep up with a maximum of 150 friends, may have an opening given Facebook fatigue. Celebrities and teens, we hear anecdotally, are <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/bruceupbin/2013/03/06/five-reasons-bold-faced-names-should-be-using-path/">flocking to the service</a> as an alternative to overexposure on social networks where everything is either public by default, like Twitter, or privacy settings are simply too confusing.</p>
<p>It has nearly 6 million registered users, about a quarter of whom are active at least once a week, and has raised $42 million from investors.</p>
<p>And the fact that Path is making high-profile hires like Jabal and Toth shows that the company is staffing up for big ambitions.</p>

Kristin Lemkau, CMO of JPMorgan Chase, pictured.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/jpmorgan-chase">JPMorgan Chase</a> CMO Kristin Lemkau told Business Insider that, like Jeff Bezos, she values work-life integration over work-life balance.</strong></li><li><strong>For example, while she's at her son's soccer game waiting for him to play, she'll answer some emails.</strong></li><li><strong>Other executives in a range of fields have discussed the importance of work-life integration, for themselves and for their employees.</strong></li></ul><p><br />In a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/one-of-your-most-important-career-decisions-is-who-you-have-kids-with-2018-6">recent interview</a> with Business Insider CEO Henry Blodget, Kristin Lemkau discussed how she juggles her many work and family responsibilities.</p><p>Lemkau is the CMO of JPMorgan Chase, meaning she manages a $5 billion marketing budget.</p><p>Lemkau said she agreed with Amazon CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jeff-bezo-advice-to-amazon-employees-dont-aim-for-work-life-balance-its-a-circle-2018-4">Jeff Bezos' stated preference</a> for work-life integration, or harmony, as opposed to work-life balance. She admitted that technology has "blurred the lines" between work and home, so you have to be careful to be "present and confident in whatever you're doing."</p><p>At the same time, Lemkau added, she uses technology to her advantage. Here's an example: "I'm at my son's soccer game yesterday on Mother's Day in the driving rain and 45 degrees. He's on the bench, I can get a couple of emails done. He's playing. I'm totally there."</p><p>That is to say, Lemkau doesn't think there needs to be a hard line between the time she spends at work and the time she spends at home, as long as she's doing a good job both as a leader and as a parent.</p><p>Jeff Bezos mentioned that he thinks the phrase "work-life balance" is "debilitating" <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jeff-bezo-advice-to-amazon-employees-dont-aim-for-work-life-balance-its-a-circle-2018-4">at an awards event</a> hosted by Axel Springer and Business Insider US editor in chief Alyson Shontell. As Business Insider's Zoe Bernard reported, Bezos said it's more productive to see work and life as two integrated parts, and as a circle instead of a balance.</p><p>"If I am happy at home, I come into the office with tremendous energy," Bezos said. "And if I am happy at work, I come home with tremendous energy."</p><h2>Many executives expect work-life integration for themselves and for their employees</h2><p>Other executives think similarly about the value of work-life integration over balance.</p><p>Katharine Zaleski, cofounder of Power to Fly, a recruiting platform for women in tech, <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2017/10/11/pf/women-work-life-balance/index.html">told CNN</a>, "You have to respect the fact that people are going to be putting so much time into your company, so it's OK that they integrate some life into the workday by going to pick up a kid at 4 o'clock."</p><p>And Weebly CFO Kim Jabal <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/executives-talk-about-work-life-balance-2015-11#weebly-cfo-kim-jabal-says-a-flexible-schedule-in-the-office-and-while-at-home-is-the-secret-to-work-life-integration-8">previously told Business Insider</a> about the importance of flexibility. (Jabal used the term "life balance," but seemed to be alluding to work-life integration.) Her schedule? "Home an hour in the morning, get kids to school, work in the office 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., have dinner with kids, work three hours at night."</p><p>As Jacob Morgan <a href="https://www.inc.com/jacob-morgan/work-life-balance-is-becoming-work-life-integration.html">writes on Inc.</a>, even those of us who aren't high-powered executives can start thinking about how to achieve work-life integration. Morgan advises readers to write down their personal and professional goals and then consider:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Are your goals working together, or is it impossible to achieve your personal and professional goals? If your professional goal is to start your own business and a personal goal is to travel or try a new hobby, look for ways that they could work together. She was previously the CFO of Lytro and served in several director of finance positions at Google. </p><p><strong><a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/cfo/2015/11/12/investors-want-more-from-sustainability-reporting-says-former-sec-head/">Investors want more from sustainability reporting and it's fatiguing companies</a> (Wall Street Journal)</strong></p><p>While more S&amp;P 500 companies are producing sustainability reports, up by 20% since 2011, investors are still not happy with the reports they are receiving. </p><p>"Investors who want to use the information say the information they are getting is often difficult to compare between companies and tough to incorporate into forecasts," The Wall Street Journal reports.</p><p>The report says companies are not giving investors the information they most want, which is "leading many institutional investors to send companies lengthy sustainability questionnaires leading to 'questionnaire fatigue' in corporate investor relations departments," <span>Mary Schapiro, the former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, tells The Journal. </span></p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/macys-cfo-reveals-4-reasons-the-company-blew-it-last-quarter-2015-11">Macy's CFO reveals 4 reasons the company blew it last quarter</a> (Business Insider)</strong></p><p>Macy's missed its sales targets and traffic slowed in the quarter leading up to the holiday shopping season. </p><p>The company has cut its annual profit forecast after posting a 5.2% decline with same-store sales taking a 3.9% hit.</p><p>"We had a very tough quarter, and we are clearly disappointed," Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren said on an earnings call.</p><p>CFO Karen Hoguet said the company was hurt by weak interest in the company's fall apparel due to warm weather. The 4 best ways to get what you want from a CFO

<p class="source"><span>Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Don't bother bragging.</p>On an episode of <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-thrive-global-podcast/id1180759468?mt=2">The Thrive Global Podcast</a>, billionaire investor Mark Cuban shared the rule he makes all his employees and the entrepreneurs he works with follow: Start off with the bad news.<p>Cuban likes to get regular updates from employees and entrepreneurs, he told podcast host Arianna Huffington, who is the founder and CEO of Thrive Global.</p><p>"But it's always bad news first," he said. "It's never just give me all the song and dance, and we did this, and we hired this person who's amazing."</p><p>That's not really helpful for either of you. Cuban went on:</p><p>Cuban didn't explain exactly <em>how</em> he wants to get the bad news - but experts say that, if you're telling your boss about a problem you're facing, you'd best come prepared with a solution as well.</p><p>As <a href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a> CFO Kim Jabal <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-your-boss-doesnt-want-to-hear-2017-3">previously told Business Insider</a>, you should say something like: "We have a huge opportunity to fix something that has gone wrong. 'Hit me with the bad news first': Mark Cuban explains what he wants to see when he opens an employee email

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Joanna Coles has held the glamorous titles of editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire magazines. Today, she's the first person to serve as the chief content officer of Hearst Magazines.<p>But Coles launched her journalism career in a place far from the world of glossy monthlies, as a reporter for The Guardian and The Times of London.</p><p>On an episode of Business Insider's podcast, "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/joanna-coles-hearst-cco-cosmopolitan-editor-snap-board-member-success-2017-9">Success! And so I had a sort of slow realization that I could no longer do the job that I loved. It wasn't the job's fault - it wasn't the newspaper's fault. I was just at a life stage that didn't make sense. ...</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"So I moved into magazines because I thought I would have more control over my schedule. I wanted a desk job, I didn't want to be traveling all the time, and I'm not someone who found it easy to travel with young children, and I wanted to see them. And it was very difficult. The transition of a desk job, having to be in the office at the same time every day, I found super hard. But I did it for three years, and that led to me taking over at Marie Claire, which was a really exciting experience."</p><p>Coles hammered home the point about flexibility being key for her - and for all working parents:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"[When I took over at Marie Claire] I had the opportunity to make my own schedule a bit more, which was, again, something I always try and tell women who are anxious about taking on more responsibility when they have children that, if you can create your own schedule, if you are in control of your schedule, that's one of the most important things that helps with children."</p><p>Other executives agree with Coles about the importance of a malleable schedule. Weekly CFO Kim Jabal <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/executives-talk-about-work-life-balance-2015-11/#weebly-cfo-kim-jabal-says-a-flexible-schedule-in-the-office-and-while-at-home-is-the-secret-to-work-life-integration-8">previously told Business Insider</a> that flexibility is integral to work-life balance. Working parents should look for 3 things in a job, says media mogul Joanna Coles

The company is best known for operating its flagship website, Monster.com.</span></p><p><span>Prior to joining Monster, McGuinness served as the director of corporate accounting at Verint Systems Inc., a publicly traded provider of enterprise and security intelligence solutions. He was responsible for global revenue accounting, external reporting, and technical accounting. </span></p><p><span>He previously served as the senior manager of external reporting and technical accounting at Symbol Technologies. </span></p><p><span>McGuinness also </span><span>held a variety of positions at Arthur Andersen LLP in the audit and business advisory practice. </span></p><h2><span>Other finance moves</span></h2><p><span><strong>Weebly</strong> has named former Google executive and Path <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/weebly-hires-ex-google-kim-jabal-as-cfo-2015-11">CFO Kim Jabal as its first finance chief</a>. Jabal will report directly to cofounder and CEO David Rusenko.</span></p><p><span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pge-taps-jason-wells-to-be-its-next-cfo-2015-11" title="PG&amp;E CFO selected"><strong>PG&amp;E</strong> named Jason Wells as its next finance chief</a>. He will take over the role from Kent Harvey, effective January 1. Harvey will help with the transition by taking on the senior vice president of finance role for the first half of 2016. </span></p><p>Corporate payment processing provider <strong>WEX</strong> has named Roberto Simon as its next CFO. He will take the top spot from Steve Elder, who will become senior vice president of investor relations. The move will take place in February 2016. Simon most recently headed finance for Revlon.</p><p><strong>PowerSecure International </strong>has promoted<strong> </strong>Eric Dupont to the chief finance role. He replaces CFO Chris Hutter, who will retain his chief operating officer title. Dupont had been executive vice president of finance and administration.</p><p>Mark Frost has been named CFO and treasurer at <strong>Analogic. </strong>His role is effective November 30. He was previously the finance chief at AngioDynamics.</p><p><strong>Sterling Construction</strong> has named Ronald Ballschmiede as its next CFO. He will replace interim CFO Kevan Blair, who will return to his former job as senior vice president of corporate finance. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>You want to have an open, honest relationship with your boss.</p><p>But that doesn't mean you can just say <em>anything</em> to them in the workplace.</p><p>There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, you're probably better off avoiding potentially alienating your manager.</p><p>Business Insider reached out to managers and career experts to find out which sentences they just don't want to hear from their employees.</p><p>Here are 11 phrases you might want to avoid:</p><h2>1. 'Let's hold off on making that decision'</h2><p>"As a startup CEO, timely decision making is critical, and I don't want to put off until tomorrow what we can do today," says Frida Polli, CEO of applicant screening service <a href="https://www.pymetrics.com/">pymetrics</a>. "Gather all the information you can, and make the best decision you can given the data. Decision making with imperfect information or under conditions of ambiguity is a critical skill to develop for all employees. This is different than rash decision making, where no information is considered and decisions are made from a hunch."</p><h2>2. 'Okay ...'</h2><p>Career site <a href="http://www.createcultivate.com/" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=http://www.createcultivate.com/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1489771690996000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEmp8S3p0cRdKsUkPx47cyHEROLgQ">Create &amp; Cultivate</a> founder Jaclyne Johnson says that it's important to be clear - especially when you're communicating with your boss online or over text. Short, curt responses can sometimes be too ambiguous.</p><p>"There is really no time for passive-aggressive bumps in the road and, in terms of communication, everyone needs to be on the same page," Johnson says. "We do a lot over text messages and the ellipsis is just hard to decipher. Are we good to go? Are there questions? I think being straightforward is the best way to push through the noise."</p><h2>3. 'It's not my fault'</h2><p>"The blame game never works in the workplace. Odds are, if something bad happens, it's not one person's fault," says Andy Bailey, CEO of business coaching firm <a href="http://petracoach.com/">Petra Coach</a>. "Take responsibility for finding a solution rather than casting blame elsewhere - especially if you're in any kind of management position."</p><p>Joe Staples, the CMO of project management software <a href="https://www.workfront.com/">Workfront</a>, says that good bosses won't prioritize finding someone to blame.</p><p>"Fault-finding is a time-waster and fills the conversation with excuses," Staples says. "I want to know how it happened so it can be avoided in the future, and what the plan is to fix it."</p><p>CEO of online camera retailer <a href="https://www.mpb.com/en-us/" target="_blank" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://www.mpb.com/en-us/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1489858209252000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF4KDk5sX6FabOFGU57Zii0j0_rGw">MPB.com</a> Matt Barker says he also prefers for employees to try to fix, rather than dodge, problems. "It's important in any job to always try and think beyond the obvious and be a creative problem solver," he says.</p><h2>4. 'I have a problem'</h2><p>"I hate to hear the phrase 'I have a problem,' when there is not a proposed solution," says Bryan Miles, co-CEO of virtual assistant and bookkeeping site <a href="https://belaysolutions.com/" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://belaysolutions.com/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1489858399861000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFO1LkYjuCT8oPlcQTtkrQzPGOkpA">BELAY</a>. "This is particularly annoying because it feels as if whoever is saying it is waiting on me to solve the issue, instead of finding ways to resolve it themselves. I like team members and leaders that bring you problems with potential solutions because it shows they've been proactive about the issue."</p><p><a href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a> CFO Kim Jabal says that it's better to say something along the lines of: "We have a huge opportunity to fix something that has gone wrong. Here are a few ideas. I'd love your input."</p><p>"I love employees who have a passion for tackling problems versus avoiding them," Jabal says. "I want to be surrounded by employees who want to take the steeper hill because they know there will be a big sense of accomplishment at the top as opposed to those that prefer to coast on the easy road."</p><p>"Problems happen and while it's great to be able to spot them and get to the root cause, you need to be the problem solver as well," says Marcy Axelrad, global senior director of talent management at online retailer <a href="https://www.wayfair.com/">Wayfair</a>.</p><p>So, all in all, if you've got bad news for your boss, you'd better have some potential solutions as well. It's not about sugarcoating issues, it's about demonstrating that you're on the ball.</p><p>"Bosses prefer asset-based problem solvers, not deficit-based problem bringers, so the next time a problem arises and you need to bring it to your boss' attention, make sure you don't just hand over the problem," Heide Abelli, vice president of business skills and leadership at cloud-based learning site <a href="http://www.skillsoft.com/">Skillsoft</a>. "Instead, come prepared with the information and recommendation your boss needs in order to help address the problem... If you have tried your best and you just can't come up with any potential solutions, then be honest and tell your boss that you would like to work with him or her to brainstorm potential solutions. That way you show you're not simply handing over a problem, but want to be involved in solving it."</p><h2>5. 'If my opinion matters ...'</h2><p>"When someone starts off a suggestion or idea with that phrase, it automatically undermines whatever it is they are going to say next," says Shannon Miles, co-CEO of <a href="https://belaysolutions.com/" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&amp;q=https://belaysolutions.com/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1489858399861000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFO1LkYjuCT8oPlcQTtkrQzPGOkpA">BELAY</a>. "Instead, show confidence when bringing an idea to the table."</p><h2>6. 'My gut tells me ...'</h2><p>If you're working in a data-driven field or company, there are times where your gut feeling just isn't going to cut it.</p><p>"The facts and the numbers inform our decisions," says Hari Ravichandran, CEO of web-hosting company <a href="https://www.endurance.com/">Endurance International Group</a>. "While qualitative plays an important part in how we behave the quantitative is a vital factor in what we decide. You need to be prepared to have data to back-up your assertions, even if they are instinctual."</p><h2>7. 'I don't know'</h2><p>"If I ask you a question that you don't know the answer to, that's okay. Nobody knows everything,"says Jodi Glickman, the CEO of leadership development and communication training firm <a href="http://greatonthejob.com/">Great on the Job</a>. "The key is not too sound like you don't know anything. 'I don't know' is lame, it's not helpful, and it doesn't make you look good."</p><p>If you're caught off-guard by your boss's question, Glickman recommends saying something more along the lines of: "Here's what I know, here's what I don't know, here's how I'll figure it out."</p><p>"Hearing this from an employee shows that they did not even try to find the answer and does not know what's going on with something under their responsibility," says CEO of booking platform <a href="http://tripactions.com/">TripActions</a> Ariel Cohen. "As your boss, we want to hear that you're prepared. Even further, if a question is posed that you haven't thought about remind me that you can think on your feet and leverage your experience on the fly."</p><h2>8. 'I don't have time'</h2><p>This is a terrible way to respond when your manager asks you to take on a new task - even if it's true.</p><p>"Prioritization is important," Axelrad says. "Be flexible and open to the need to pivot. If you can't fit a project into your schedule, then let the person requesting your time know that while you have some critical work to get done right now, but you can get to this project on X date. Always ask if this proposed timeline will work. If not, talk to your manager about shifting priorities to accommodate requests."</p><p>David Dourgarian, CEO of staffing software company <a href="https://www.tempworks.com/">TempWorks Software</a>, says that it's important to make time when it comes to getting crucial tasks done.</p><p>"Going above and beyond sometimes means coming in early or staying past 5 p.m. to assist a client with a problem no matter how small - and that applies to everyone from the top down," he says. "We look for employees that understand the importance of client loyalty and bring a good attitude about putting in the extra effort to ensure the company continues to uphold that mission."</p><h2>9. 'I'll try to get that done by Friday'</h2><p>"Don't try," Bailey says. "Actually do it. In the words of Yoda, 'There is no try, only do.' If you can't get something done, tell your boss, so you can work together to get it done - or bring in help where it's needed."</p><h2>10. 'I missed the deadline'</h2><p>"Stuff happens," Staples says. "People miss deadlines. Just don't tell me after the fact. Give me as much advanced notice as possible that you're going to miss it."</p><h2>11. 'What is my career path?'</h2><p>Don't rely on your boss to figure out your future for you.</p><p>"Employees should come to their managers with a sense of their goals, asking instead for help or support on how they achieve them," says Dan Sommer, CEO of web development program <a href="http://www.trilogyed.com/">Trilogy Education</a>.
