Hyundai to utilise $5.9 billion in overseas operations' money for EV investments

Kia revealed yet another awesome-looking electric SUV — and it's headed to China first

<keyword id="13667465" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="carmaker-kia-india" source="Orion">Carmaker Kia India</keyword> on Thursday entered <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s EV market with 'EV6'.<br /><br />The 'EV6' is the first <keyword id="1604844" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bev" source="Orion">BEV</keyword> (battery electric vehicle) from <keyword id="6372046" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kia" source="Orion">Kia</keyword> and was unveiled globally in March 2021.<br /><br />The vehicle is built on Kia's new dedicated EV platform 'E-GMP' and is pegged to offer premium mobility solutions to its customers.<br /><br />"The brand will only be bringing limited units of the car and bookings of the vehicle will commence on May 26, 2022, followed by its launch soon after," the company said in a statement.<br /><br />"The EV6 will be an exclusive offering from <keyword id="4151067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kia-india" source="Orion">Kia India</keyword> and only available in limited quantities in 2022. Kia EV6 will be the company's first electric car in India, bookings begin May 26

New Delhi, Automaker Kia India on Thursday said it will increase prices of Seltos and Carens by up to 2 per cent from October 1, according to a senior company official. However, the company will not hike the prices of its entry-level model Sonet. <br /><br />"We are looking to take about a 2 per cent price increase on Seltos and Carens from October 1," Kia India National Head (Sales and Marketing) Hardeep S Brar told PTI. <br /><br />The company had last hiked prices in April this year as it upgraded its portfolio to conform to Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms, he said. <br /><br />"While many of the companies have already taken the price increase post-April, we, however, did not take...besides the raw material prices are going up.. and we introduced the new Seltos and a lot of investment has gone into the product..so we think it is time that we take the price increase," Brar said. <br /><br />Kia India also sells an electric model EV6 in the country.

Kia India to hike Seltos, Carens prices by up to 2% from Oct

Greater Noida, Feb 5 () South Korean auto maker Kia Motors on Wednesday launched its premium multi purpose vehicle Carnival, and showcased a new concept for a global SUV Sonet at the Auto Expo here.<p> Carnival is being launched in India in three different specifications at a starting price of Rs 24.95 lakh for its Premium variant (ex-showroom), Rs 28.95 lakh for its Prestige variant (ex-showroom), and Rs 33.95 lakh for its Limousine variant (ex-showroom).</p><p> Kia Sonet concept will be developed further ahead of a launch in the Indian market in the second half of 2020.</p><p> Kia Motors India said it had received more than 1,400 bookings for the new car on the first day of orders and has a total of more than 3,500 bookings received till date.</p><p> Kia had entered the Indian market with its SUV Seltos, which was displayed as SP Concept in the previous edition of the Auto Expo in 2018.</p><p> Commenting on the India journey, Kia Motors India MD and CEO Kookhyun Shim said: "We have sought to understand Indian customers' aspirations, and match them with best-in-class products and services."</p><p> He further said, "Our latest vehicle, Kia Carnival, is a clear example of this approach. Though it represents a leap up from the Seltos, into a premium, aspirational segment, it has been devised with the same passion."</p><p> Shim further said, "As the Indian market evolves, we will continue to offer customers here the best and most innovative products and services."</p><p> Kia Sonet concept is a compact SUV which will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Ford Ecosport.</p><p> Kia Motors said the vehicle will be launched in India in the second half of 2020.</p><p> Carnival, on the other hand, looks to enter a segment dominated by Toyota's Innova Crystal. Kia Motors launches premium MPV Carnival at Auto Expo

Auto Expo 2023: Jupiter Electric Mobility launches two commercial EVs

The truck starts at $39,900 for the most basic Work Truck model. The RST First Edition, which hits the market later in 2023, starts at $105,000. </p><div type="image" title="The Chevrolet Silverado EV." height="1875" width="2500" msid="90943580" hostid="261"></div><p>The star of the show was the Silverado EV's ingenious bed, which features a large pass-through to the cab, allowing people to haul objects that are almost 11 feet long. </p><h2><strong>Deus Vayanne</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="Deus Vayanne." height="1640" width="2187" msid="90943582" hostid="261"></div><p>Austria-based EV startup Deus debuted a "production-oriented concept" of its inaugural model, the Vayanne. The company claims its supercar will put out a positively outrageous 2,200 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, the $3.3 million Bugatti Chiron <em>only </em>offers 1,500 horses or so. </p><div type="image" title="The Deus Vayanne." height="1875" width="2500" msid="90943584" hostid="261"></div><p>The Vayanne, according to Deus, will have a top speed of 248 mph and can hit 60 mph in less than two seconds. </p><p>Impossibly low to the ground and sculpted, the Vayanne also looks the part. Deus says its rear is inspired by the infinity symbol. The Deus Vayanne is limited to 99 examples, and deliveries are set to begin in 2025. </p><h2><strong>Kia EV9 concept</strong></h2><div type="image" title="The Kia EV9." height="1370" width="1827" msid="90943585" hostid="261"></div><p>Kia took the opportunity to show off its EV9 concept, which previews a large SUV to slot above the compact <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-ev6-electric-suv-battery-pack-cooking-2022-4">EV6</a>. Boxy and imposing, the EV9 concept looks like a futuristic take on Kia's popular Telluride SUV. </p><p>Kia says the EV9 will have more than 300 miles of range when it hits US dealerships in 2023. We hope the SUV looks a lot like this concept when it comes to life, but some of the EV9's most interesting design elements — like its suicide doors — probably won't make it into production. </p><h2><strong>Indi One</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="Indi EV Indi One" height="1571" width="2095" msid="90943586" hostid="261"></div><p>You'd be forgiven for not being aware of Indi EV, given the sheer number of electric-vehicle startups trying to make a name for themselves at this very moment. </p><p>Los Angeles-based Indi was founded in 2017 and kicked off preorders for its first model, an SUV called the Indi One, at the auto show. Here's how Indi is different from other upstarts: It included a powerful computer in the Indi One that it calls the "Vehicle Integrated Computer." </p><div type="image" title="Indi EV Indi One." height="1667" width="2500" msid="90943587" hostid="261"></div><p>This, Indi says, will allow people to play video games, make video calls for work, use social media, and do other things normally reserved for a regular computer. Indi says pricing starts at $45,000, and deliveries will start next year. </p><h2><strong>Vinfast VF8 and VF9</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="Vinfast VF8." height="1667" width="2500" msid="90943588" hostid="261"></div><p>Vietnamese carmaker Vinfast showed off two electric models that are heading to the US this year: the VF8 midsize SUV and VF9 full-size SUV. Despite coming from a company — and a country — that's never sold cars of any kind stateside, they blend right in with the electric and gas SUVs on the market.</p><div type="image" title="The Vinfast VF9." height="1688" width="2500" msid="90943590" hostid="261"></div><p>It'll undoubtedly be difficult for a new brand to break into the American market. But the large VF9 hits a segment that has barely any electric options at the moment. There are several compact and medium-sized electric SUVs to choose from, but only a couple with a third row like the VF9. </p><p>To keep costs down, Vinfast is having customers lease their batteries for a monthly fee. The company guarantees it will replace a vehicle's battery if its capacity drops below 70%.</p><h2><strong>Volkswagen ID.Buzz</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The Volkswagen ID.Buzz." height="1459" width="1946" msid="90943591" hostid="261"></div><p>The Volkswagen ID.Buzz doesn't arrive on US shores until 2024, but <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vw-id-buzz-volkswagen-electric-bus-minivan-2024-interior-2022-4">we got an early glimpse</a> at the funky minivan in New York. And we can report that it looks great in person. For the US, VW will stretch the van slightly to make room for third-row seating. Hyundai plans to scale up production capacity, introduce more EVs in India

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Automakers and their suppliers have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in EVs.</li><li>Demand for EVs has slowed over the past year while consumer interest in hybrids has soared.</li></ul><p>In recent years, global automakers and their suppliers have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chevrolet-new-electric-models-equinox-silverado-ev-not-enough-2024-6">developing new electric vehicles</a> and the infrastructure to build and support them.</p><p>However, even as the automotive industry marches toward the inevitable point of full electrification,<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-vehicle-misconceptions-about-the-ev-transition-market-sales-2024-5"> demand for EVs has slowed </a>over the past year while <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-challenges-amid-hybrid-craze-ford-gm-gas-profits-2024-4">interest in hybrids has soared.</a></p><p>Hybrids, with their excellent efficiency and lower cost, offer consumers a range-anxiety-free alternative to help bridge the gap between internal combustion and EVs, Steve Kosowski, the manager for Long Range Planning and Strategy at Kia Motors America, told Business Insider in a recent interview.</p><p>While EV sales <a target="_blank" href="https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-insights/q1-2024-ev-sales/#:~:text=In%20the%20first%20quarter%20of,growth%20rate%20has%20slowed%20notably.">fell in the first quarter</a> of 2024 by more than 15% compared to the previous three months — their first drop since 2020 — <a target="_blank" href="https://www.strategyand.pwc.com/de/en/industries/automotive/electric-vehicle-sales-review-2024-q1.html">hybrid sales are booming. </a></p><p>Traditional hybrids, with lower price points and limited all-electric range, saw a 45.7% sales uptick from January to March, while plug-ins, which are pricier but can go upwards of 60 miles on batteries, grew a whopping 69.7%, according to figures from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.strategyand.pwc.com/de/en/industries/automotive/electric-vehicle-sales-review-2024-q1.html">PWC</a>.</p><div type="image" title="A Kia EV3 GT-Line compact electric SUV is parked in front of a building." height="3227" width="5736" msid="110920053" hostid="261" sizebytes="1753006"></div><p>As a result, some automakers have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-benz-ev-2030-electric-car-market-trends-2024-2">postponed their plans</a> to abandon internal combustion engines completely.</p><p>This development would seemingly threaten Kia, which has launched about half a dozen new BEVs in recent years, including the stylish <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-ev3-details-range-photos-interior-2024-5">EV3 SUV this May</a>.</p><p>But Kia sees hybrids as an opportunity to get potential BEV buyers in the door.</p><p>"If you look at resistance in the market to buying an EV, number one is price and then it's<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-vehicle-range-ev-charging-station-infrastructure-issues-2024-5"> range and (charging) infrastructure</a>, " Kosowski said. "But if you look at hybrids and PHEVs, the resistance because of price is much much lower."</p><p>"The last time I looked, transaction prices for EVs and plug-in hybrids were in the same area, which signals to me that consumers want to electrify and are willing to pay for it," he added."</p><p>With range anxiety a non-issue, hybrids, especially those of the plug-in variety, allow people who are hesitant to fully electrify a way to ease into it.</p><div type="image" title="A blue 2024 Kia Niro PHEV drives down the road" height="4128" width="6192" msid="110920055" hostid="261" sizebytes="498922"></div><p>Hybrids accounted for about 8.4% of the total market during the first quarter of 2024.</p><p>But if you look at the largest and arguably most important segment these days, compact SUVs, hybrids account for nearly one-fifth of sales, Kosowski said.</p><p>This places added importance on the need to have hybrid options available for sale.</p><p>Fortunately for Kia, the company hedged its strategy and has no fewer than half a dozen hybrids and PHEVs currently on sale in the US, including the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-niro-hybrid-is-a-great-car-to-buy-2017-11">Niro Hybrid</a> and Sportage PHEV compact SUVs.</p><p>"As an automaker, you take a step back from this, and you go, it makes so much more sense to proliferate hybrids within your lineup," he said.</p><p>For Kia, building hybrids instead of EVs affects its bottom line beyond the revenue it generates. The cost of materials to build an EV is 50% more than that.</p><p>"This is the 800-pound gorilla in the room for the industry," he added. "The thing about EVs is their material cost is so high that the margin for everybody gets squeezed until it becomes negative."</p><p>The popularity is a surprising turn of events from hybrids. Until recentlythey were maligned by consumers for being substantially more expensive and complex than a fully ICE vehicle and by environmentalists for not being as eco-friendly as a full BEV.</p><p>However, hybrids' day in the sun is likely to be temporary due to increasingly<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/insider-energy-bidens-secret-weapon-3-big-clean-tech-deals-2020-11"> stringent environmental regulations.</a></p><p>"EV sales can only go up. These cars are coming because every automaker has to sell in order to meet <a target="_blank" href="https://afdc.energy.gov/laws/4249">zero-emissions vehicle production (ZEV) regulations</a>, and greenhouse has rules," Kosowski said.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>I drove the Tesla Model Y and the Kia EV6 to see how the two electric SUVs stacked up. </li><li>The Model Y has a big, minimalist interior and an iPad-like touchscreen.</li></ul><p>So you want to go electric and you're wondering which car to buy.</p><p>On the one hand, there's Tesla, the brand that's synonymous with electric vehicles in the US. On the other, there are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-y-vs-hyundai-ioniq-5-electric-suv-compared-2022-10">electric up-and-comers</a> like Kia.</p><p>The South Korean brand sells one of the most exciting and fast-selling EVs: the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-ev6-electric-car-suv-review-gt-line-2022-4">EV6 SUV</a>. It's sporty, sleekly styled, and excels in the all-important range department.</p><p>But can it stand up to Elon Musk's incredibly popular <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-y-review-interior-price-first-drive-2022-9">Model Y SUV</a>? I drove both to find out.</p><h2><strong>Which is cheaper?</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="1667" width="2500" msid="94793620" hostid="261"></div><p>The Kia starts at $41,400, significantly less than the $65,990 Model Y. Equipping the EV6 with all-wheel drive bumps up its price by $10,000 and brings its capability and cost more in line with the Model Y.</p><h2><strong>What about range?</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The Tesla Model Y." height="1667" width="2500" msid="94793623" hostid="261"></div><p>Tesla sells some of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-electric-cars-longest-range-lucid-tesla-ford-kia-hyundai-2022-7">the longest-range EVs on the market</a>. The base Model Y offers 330 miles — and that's with efficiency-sapping all-wheel drive as standard.</p><p>Kia is nipping at its heels with a robust 310 miles of range in the EV6's $47,500 Wind RWD trim. Base models get 232 miles of range, while all-wheel-drive ones get 274, as rated by the Environmental Protection Agency.</p><h2><strong>How fast do they charge?</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The Tesla Model Y electric SUV." height="1666" width="2500" msid="94793624" hostid="261"></div><p>The EV6 is one of the quickest-charging electric cars you can buy. It can boost its battery level from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes when plugged into a sufficiently high-powered station, according to Kia. That would take <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi1VrtfoiUA">closer to 30 minutes for the Y</a>.</p><p>Still, while Kias rely on home charging or fast-charging third-party stations, Tesla owners can plug into exclusive Supercharger stations, which are <a href="https://www.tesla.com/findus?v=2&amp;bounds=51.983501615631575%2C-67.62597775%2C25.500764318167%2C-130.90722775&amp;zoom=5&amp;filters=store%2Cservice%2Csupercharger%2Cdestination%20charger%2Cbodyshop%2Cparty">common</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-supercharger-charging-first-time-experience-compared-to-other-evs-2022-9">exceedingly simple to operate</a>.</p><h2><strong>How do they drive?</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="1667" width="2500" msid="94793625" hostid="261"></div><p>Both cars deliver snappy steering that makes them more fun to drive than other SUVs. The Tesla is more agile, but it <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-y-electric-suv-flaws-cons-2022-9">sacrifices ride comfort</a>.</p><p>The Model Y offers beastly acceleration that throws you back into your seat. The EV6 is available with a powerful all-wheel-drive layout, but I tested the rear-wheel-drive model that trades acceleration for extra driving range. </p><h2><strong>What about interior and cargo space?</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="1875" width="2500" msid="94793626" hostid="261"></div><p>The vehicles are comparable in size, but the Tesla offers much more room for passengers and cargo. The Model Y's interior feels big and open, thanks in part to its big glass roof, and total storage space measures in at 76.2 cubic feet, including a front trunk.</p><p>The EV6 offers 50.2 cubic feet of storage with the seats folded and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-ev6-electric-suv-review-pros-cons-photos-test-drive-2022-5">lacks a proper frunk</a>.</p><div type="image" title="The Tesla Model Y." height="1667" width="2500" msid="94793627" hostid="261"></div><p>Some buyers might prefer the Kia's sporty and bold interior over Tesla's minimalist and button-free aesthetic. People who are repelled by using a touchscreen to control everything should steer clear of the Model Y. </p><h2><strong>How does the tech stack up?</strong></h2><h2><div type="image" title="The Tesla Model Y." height="1667" width="2500" msid="94793628" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>The Model Y's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-y-pros-review-electric-suv-range-performance-2022-9">big touchscreen makes it a tech fan's dream</a>. It offers fun features like video games, along with more useful ones like a Sentry Mode, which watches passersby using the car's many exterior cameras. The system regularly gets software updates and new features. </p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6." height="1667" width="2500" msid="94793629" hostid="261"></div><p>Though the Kia also has a snappy display, it's not quite an iPhone on wheels and has more conventional controls than the Tesla. But it does have two outlets that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-ev6-electric-suv-battery-pack-cooking-2022-4">provide enough electricity to power household appliances</a>.</p><h2><strong>Verdict</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="2000" width="3000" msid="94793630" hostid="261"></div><p>It's a toss-up. Both are great electric options that satisfy different desires and price points.</p><p>I'd pick the Kia because it was fun to drive, charged super quickly, and offered almost as much range as the Tesla with more analog controls and a more accessible price point.</p><p>But if you prize a minimalist interior, tech features out the wazoo, and Supercharger convenience, go with the Model Y.</p>

Why I’d buy the $41,000 Kia EV6 over the $66,000 Tesla Model Y after driving the two popular electric SUVs

<ul class="summary-list"><li>I drove the <keyword id="6372046" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="kia" source="Orion">Kia</keyword> EV6 and <keyword id="12020233" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="hyundai" source="Orion">Hyundai</keyword> Ioniq 5, two of the most exciting new electric SUVs. </li><li>They share a basic platform and have a lot in common, but I'd pick the Ioniq 5. </li></ul><p>The latest electric SUVs from Hyundai and Kia just dropped to rave reviews. And although the new <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hyundai-ioniq-5-electric-suv-ev-review-price-range-photos-2022-4">Hyundai Ioniq 5</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-ev6-electric-car-suv-review-gt-line-2022-4">Kia EV6</a> are built around the same electric platform (Hyundai owns the Kia brand) and both cost around $40,000, they couldn't be more different in the way they drive, look, and feel inside. </p><p>Testing both models proved that both are excellent options. But if you handed me a stack of cash and forced me to pick, I'd choose the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Here's why. </p><h2><strong>Styling:</strong> <strong>Hyundai</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5." height="1271" width="2542" msid="91159514" hostid="261"></div><p>Although the aggressive, sporty looks of the EV6 grew on me after a few days, the Ioniq 5 remains the more attractive option in my book. I love the Hyundai's hard edges, squat proportions, and retro-futuristic design. Its "pixelated" headlights and taillights, made of tiny little squares arranged in a grid, are a stylish touch. </p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5." height="2000" width="3000" msid="91159516" hostid="261"></div><p>However, the EV6 turned <em>way </em>more heads than the Ioniq 5. So I may be in the minority here. </p><h2><strong>Driving experience:</strong> <strong>Kia</strong> </h2><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="2000" width="3000" msid="91159519" hostid="261"></div><p>If you're after an engaging driving experience, the Kia EV6 is your best bet.</p><p>With steering that's precise and responsive, the EV6 handles better than the Ioniq 5. Whereas the EV6 feels sporty and agile, the Ioniq 5 is more about comfort. In all-wheel-drive configuration, both SUVs should deliver thrilling straight-line acceleration, but the EV6 does better around corners and down twisty roads. </p><h2><strong>Interior and cargo space:</strong> <strong>Hyundai</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5." height="2000" width="3000" msid="91159522" hostid="261"></div><p>The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hyundai-ioniq-5-electric-suv-interior-review-2022-4">Ioniq 5's cabin</a> is refreshingly open and uncluttered. There's a wide-open space in front of its center console (which can slide forward and backward) that could fit a sizable backpack. Its seats are comfortable, and there's lots of room in the back seat. </p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited AWD." height="2000" width="3000" msid="91159524" hostid="261"></div><p>The EV6 is also nice and roomy as both vehicles have stretched-out wheelbases, but the Ioniq 5 feels bigger and more pleasant. The Hyundai offers 59.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded, compared to the Kia's 50.2. </p><h2><strong><keyword id="6358815" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tech" source="Orion">Tech</keyword> and safety:</strong> <strong>Tie</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="2000" width="3000" msid="91159526" hostid="261"></div><p>The Kia has a slight advantage in terms of tech features, offering a WiFi hotspot and wireless device charging as standard equipment, but both models come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and identical touchscreens that are responsive and intuitive. </p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="2250" width="3000" msid="91159528" hostid="261"></div><p>Both EVs bring a generous assortment of safety tech, including lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance. Both offer extras like a head-up display projected onto the windshield, blind-spot cameras, and an excellent highway-driving feature that automatically brakes, accelerates, steers, and watches surrounding traffic. </p><h2><strong>Range and charging:</strong> <strong>Tie</strong>  </h2><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5." height="2000" width="3000" msid="91159531" hostid="261"></div><p>In their longest-range, rear-wheel-drive configurations, the <a href="https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&amp;id=44926&amp;id=44923&amp;id=44922&amp;id=44925">Environmental Protection Agency</a> rates the EV6 for 310 miles of range and the Ioniq 5 for 303 miles. All-wheel-drive versions, which gain a second motor, lose some mileage. The Kia earns a rating of 274 miles, while the Hyundai can travel 256. </p><p>Thanks to their compatibility with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-charge-an-electric-car-2022-3">350-kilowatt charging stations</a>, the most powerful available, both vehicles claim to charge faster than the competition. They promise to replenish 10-80% of their charge in just 18 minutes. In some trims, both vehicles can power household appliances through an included adapter, a rare and interesting feature.  </p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line." height="2232" width="3000" msid="91159533" hostid="261"></div><p>The Kia comes out with a slight range advantage, but not enough to strongly sway a buyer's decision. Bottom line: Rear-wheel-drive EV6 and Ioniq 5 models both offer a range-to-price ratio that's tough to beat. </p><h2><strong>Winner: Hyundai Ioniq 5</strong></h2><p>Both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are terrific options for buyers interested in a mix of crossover utility and electric flair. While the Kia is more fun to drive, the Hyundai's more usable cargo area and comfier interior push it over the edge.</p>
