Till last year, 24-year-old <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=KESHAV+BANSAL&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Keshav Bansal</a> was busy running a mobile handset company as the Director of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=INTEX+TECHNOLOGIES&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Intex Technologies India Ltd</a>. Today, he is the youngest owner of an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IPL&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IPL</a> team- the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=GUJARAT+LIONS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Gujarat Lions</a>. 
 According to him, it took a mere 20 minutes to convince his father Narendra Bansal, who is the Chairman and Managing Director of <keyword id="6366627" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Intex">Intex</keyword> Technologies that he had what is needed to run an <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> franchise. 
 
Talking to Livemint about his journey of owning an IPL team, Bansal admitted that he was infact in discussions with <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> for a long-term sponsorship association for Intex as an on-ground sponsor for the IPL. 
 
“That was six months before the auctions. Coincidentally, BCCI members bounced off the idea for bidding for a team. I got back to the office, researched and made a formal presentation to my father. It took us 20 minutes to decide and my father has supported me through this,” said Bansal. 
 
Bansal, who grew up in a joint family studied at The Heritage School in Vasant Kunj before pursuing management AT IILM Institute of High Education in New Delhi. In between, he had also spent a year at the Manchester School of Business. 
 
When he joined Intex, he was put in the logistics department and had to work his way to the company’s marketing team before becoming its Director. 
By his own admission, Bansal has been actively involved in making ad films for the company right from strategy to ideation. 
 
In the past too, he has had a reputation for taking on things at a young age. For example, he held his first press conference at 20 when Farhan Akhtar was appointed as Intex’s brand ambassador. 
 
Owning an IPL team for Bansal ultimately boils down to a chapter in marketing. 
 “Intex Technologies and IPL have the same target audience—the youth. We have been majorly focusing on cricket to fulfil marketing goals. With <keyword id="1641060" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gujarat-lions">Gujarat Lions</keyword>, we have further strengthened the association and made it more meaningful..,” said Bansal in an interview to Mint. 
 
That however doesn’t imply that he does not take an interest in cricket. But, at the same time, he claims he is equally fond of other sports as well. Naturally, he was also personally involved in the selection of players for the Gujarat Lions. 
 
The team is captained by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=SURESH+RAINA&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Suresh Raina</a> who is aided my coach Brad Hodge. Others players include Ravindra Jadeja, <keyword id="55681" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Brendon-McCullum">Brendon McCullum</keyword>, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo, to name a few. 
 
Once his two-year association with IPL ends, Bansal already has another dream he would like converting to reality- that of taking Intex global.

The phone makers have initiated discussions with <keyword id="3558090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delta-id-inc">Delta ID Inc</keyword> for the same. However, <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> and <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> aren’t much interested in this as they believe; making phones Aadhaar ready might be a threat to personal privacy. The iris-reading technology would let users authenticate their biometrics just by looking at phone having a special IRIS camera and LeD. <keyword id="6383835" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delta">Delta</keyword> ID is a specialized maker of ActiveIRIS technology and have passed <keyword id="3205447" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="STQC">STQC</keyword> performance test for Aadhaar authentication. 
 "We are having discussions with Reliance, Intex, Lava and Micromax. We believe Chinese brands like <keyword id="1188106" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gionee">Gionee</keyword>, Vivo and Oppo would also be interested in such an IRiS-based software for Aadhaar-based authentication," <keyword id="3558093" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="salil-prabhakar">Salil Prabhakar</keyword>, chief executive of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/This-top-executive-from-Ola-has-released-a-striking-app-which-tells-you-how-good-or-bad-the-roads-are/articleshow/53924926.cms">Delta ID</a> told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 
"There is huge interest across the board for it. With Aadhaar <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/This-top-executive-from-Ola-has-released-a-striking-app-which-tells-you-how-good-or-bad-the-roads-are/articleshow/53924926.cms">enrolment </a>in India crossing 105 crore, the potential is immense." 
 
The technology would enable a user to authenticate his Aadhaar details by looking at a phone having a special IRIS camera and LeD. "ActiveIRIS is a powerful biometric identifier and this can be a game-changing feature in phones helping establish the identity of a person. At Intex, we are in talks with UIDAI and are evaluating the same," Intex Director <keyword id="366460" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Keshav-Bansal">Keshav Bansal</keyword> told the financial daily. 
 There are a few other companies which can assemble and market iris scanners in India, which includes US-based <keyword id="3659396" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="iritech">IriTech</keyword>, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/This-top-executive-from-Ola-has-released-a-striking-app-which-tells-you-how-good-or-bad-the-roads-are/articleshow/53924926.cms">Gujarat</a>-based <keyword id="3183678" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Biomatiques-Identification-Solutions">Biomatiques Identification Solutions</keyword>. 
 "We are working with <keyword id="1660257" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="InFocus">InFocus</keyword> on a smartphone platform and will be launching it soon," <keyword id="3659393" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhu-sridharan">Prabhu Sridharan</keyword>, the executive vice-president at IriTech, told ET.

​ Micromax, Intex, Lava may be launching phones that will help authentication of Aadhaar

In a move to outdistance <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> in the next few months, India's No. 3 smartphone vendor Intex Technologies imported more smartphones than second-ranked Micromax Informatics did in April. 
 According to data from <keyword id="226414" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="market-researcher">market researcher</keyword> Cybex Exim Solutions, Intex imported 897,000 units of smartphones while Micromax imported 876,000 units, including 100,000 units for its subsidiary <keyword id="288420" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yu">Yu</keyword> in the month of April, as per an Economic Times report. 
	 

	A Micromax spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a significant part of our portfolio is locally produced. We have built capacity over the last couple of years in manufacturing facility where we can produce over two million devices every month." In the rapidly expanding Indian smartphone market, <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> and Micromax have been placed at the first and second ranks respectively for several quarters. Intex was not even in the top five players earlier, but it surged up the ranks to become the No. 3 player in the quarter to December 2014. 
	 

	This happened as more people in the sub- 5,000 category moved to smartphones, a segment that Intex dominates. "The <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> gap between Intex and players like Micromax and Samsung is narrowing. We expect 1 million smartphone imports in the month of May, up from almost 0.9 million in April," said <keyword id="366460" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Keshav-Bansal">Keshav Bansal</keyword>, marketing director at Intex.

Intex might overtake Micromax in smartphone imports

<keyword id="1641060" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-lions">Gujarat Lions</keyword> began its IPL journey on a winning note after they defeated Kings XI Punjab at the Mohali stadium in their maiden game. Aaron Finch and Dwayne Bravo roared the team into victory by five wickets. 
 New entrant Gujarat Lions, which is owned by the youngest IPL team owner, Keshav Bansal (24), has an impressive team with skipper <keyword id="14587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Raina">Suresh Raina</keyword> leading from the front.

A lot of responsibility lies on players such as Brendon McCullum, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, and James Faulkner, there are Under-19 players, too, who have emerged as winners for their respective teams. 
 
Dwayne Bravo, who had the Purple Cap in IPL 2015, holds the record for taking the most wickets in a calendar year; he took 69 wickets in 47 T20 matches in the year 2015. It remains to see whether his charm will work for Gujarat too.

Intex on the other hand aims to more than double its revenue growth to Rs 8,000 crore this fiscal from Rs 3,748 crore in the previous year. Another homebred phone maker <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Lava-toinvest-Rs-2615-Crores-to-make-more-in-India/articleshow/48239449.cms">Lava </a>wants to grow over 40 % year on year. 
 
“Mobile business has been doing exceptionally well, contributing around 75 %t to total business on the back of a slew of launches at attractive prices," Keshav Bansal, director at Intex Technologies told The Economic Times. He expects profits to jump to Rs 320 crore from Rs 127 crore in the same time frame, a 151 % growth on year. 
 
With vendors increasingly selling more of the higher priced <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Samsung-leads-mobile-phone-market-in-Q1-even-as-its-shares-fall/articleshow/48065752.cms">smartphones compared with the lesser priced feature phones</a>, the average selling price (ASP) has gone up to Rs 4,200 ($66) in the quarter to March from Rs 3,823 ($60) a year ago. Smartphones typically have an ASP of Rs 8,857 ($139) compared with featurephones, which have an ASP of Rs 1,338 ($21). Additional revenue may come from mobile accessories and wearables going forward as companies diversify their product offerings.
