Even as the Covid pandemic continue to rage in Kerala, state <keyword id="6356374" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="health-minister">Health Minister</keyword> <keyword id="3296362" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Veena-George">Veena George</keyword> on Thursday said <keyword id="3155474" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zika-virus">Zika virus</keyword> cases have been detected in the state. "This is the first time that Zika virus has been reported in Kerala... a 24-year-old pregnant woman reported at a hospital in the state capital district with fever, headache and rashes last month. The first results showed a mild <keyword id="2143892" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="positive-sign">positive sign</keyword> of Zika virus and later from 19 samples tested, 13 also showed Zika positive. All the samples have now been sent to <keyword id="4590086" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="niv-pune">NIV Pune</keyword>," she said. "The <keyword id="48418" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Health-department">Health Department</keyword> and the district authorities are seized of the issue and have taken measures by collecting samples of the Aedes species <keyword id="6418922" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mosquitoes">mosquitoes</keyword>, which transmits it to people through its bite. First Zika virus case detected in Kerala, says state's health minister

<ul><li><keyword id="6357542" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="kannur">Kannur</keyword> has launched a new initiative that will train school students to identify and combat fake news. </li><li>The initiative was inaugurated on 13 June with a one-day training programme for 150 teachers. </li><li>If the first phase of the programme is successful, it will be extended to parent-teacher associations and other schools as well. </li></ul>Kannur, a coastal district in Kerala, has launched a new initiative by the name of Satyameva Jayate that will train school students to identify and combat fake news. The initiative has been launched for students from class VIII to XII, across 150 government schools. The main aim is to inculcate the spirit of ‘Article 51 (A) (h)’ which is ‘to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform’. The district was recently hit by an anti-vaccination wave because of the circulation of fake WhatsApp messages which claimed that a particular vaccination was harmful. Other fake news about <a href="https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/child-kidnapping-video-spreading-panic-tamil-nadu-actually-pakistan-81160">child kidnapping</a> and transmission of <a href="https://mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com/news/india/nipah-virus-man-booked-for-circulating-fake-whatsapp-message-on-virus-outbreak-through-chicken-in-kannur/articleshow/64384400.cms">Nipah virus</a> through chicken have also caused widespread menace in the district. The Collector of Kannur came up with this programme after he realised that it was the lack of scientific awareness amongst general public that made this happen. The initiative was inaugurated on 13 June with a <a href="https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/nipah-unesco-awards-how-kannur-fighting-fake-news-83088">one-day training programme</a> for 150 teachers. One teacher was identified from each government school to be a part of this. After the training the teachers were supposed to go back to their schools and pass on what they had learned to the students. The teachers are expected to take a one-hour class with the students that lays down a <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/kannur-rolls-out-satyameva-jayate-in-govt-schools-to-combat-menace-of-fake-news-5232059/">protocol </a>on how to deal with fake news in three relatively easy ways: <ul><li>Check the source of the information</li><li>Ask the sender to furnish the source of the information</li><li>If he/she doesn’t know it, ask them to find out and post it with the source</li></ul>The training mainly focuses on learning how to identify fake news and to look for a credible source of information. The teachers have strongly recommended Google for the same, which itself is planning to run <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/pmi-2017/media/google-wants-to-train-8000-journalists-with-new-tools-to-fight-fake-news/articleshow/64653004.cms">drives</a> that help journalists combat the fake news crisis. Since the teachers use smartphones and internet for verifying information with credible sources, there is a fear that the training might end up as just another forgettable lecture for students who do not have access to these. Therefore, the teachers are performing exercises in class to ensure that students practice the protocol even outside classes. The programme is in its first phase and this ends after three months, depending on how things work out, the message will be extended to parent-teacher associations across the 150 schools and then will be extended to other schools as well.

Kannur teaches students how to battle fake news

From the next financial year, alcohol will be banned in Bihar, as announced by the state’s Chief Minister <keyword id="6358190" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nitish-Kumar">Nitish Kumar</keyword>. He has done so after he had promised a group of angry women about the same, at an event in July. Reportedly, the women were angry over the alarming addiction to country liquor in Bihar villages. 
 
"In 1977-78 we tried to impose prohibition but it was not effective. But I feel women are suffering more than others (because of alcohol abuse)... I have instructed my officials to start working towards this and implement this from the next financial year," Mr Kumar said at a function. 
 
After his swearing in as Bihar’s Chief Minister last week, this is his first major announcement. However, one can’t be sure if alcohol would be completely banned or the ban would be restricted to just country liquor. 
 
Talking of the income through alcohol, last year Bihar government earned nearly Rs. 3,500 crore through taxes on the sale of alcohol. How and when this loss of revenue would be covered up is yet to be known. 
 
Other Indian states where alcohol is banned are Gujarat, Nagaland, Manipur and Lakshwadeep. Last year, Kerela too had announced its aim to be alcohol-free within 10 years.

They will provide services in the North-East and Assam as well.

Reliance is again looking like a major force to reckon with in the mobile sector with this procurement. Many reports had stated that the 3G and 4G data prices will come down considerably once Reliance starts its deployment. After this, all eyes will be on RJIL. The dates when RJIL start giving services to the end customers is still unclear, but should be by end of 2014. This will very well be the beginning of a price war in the 3G and 4G space in India, where the end user will benefit the most.

Born on October 15, 1931 in a family of a boat owner in Tamil Nadu’s Rameshwaram, Kalam survived all hardship to grow big in life. He distributed newspaper at one to time to support his family and education. 
 After pursuing graduation in Physics from Madras University, AJP <keyword id="5141" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abdul-Kalam">Abdul Kalam</keyword> decide to take up Aerospace Engineering as he then desired to become a fighter pilot. But the destiny had some bigger plans for him. Traversing through his career journey at the <keyword id="6355142" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=isro">ISRO</a>, Chief Scientific Advisor to the <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> in 1992, the <keyword id="858029" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pokhran-nuclear-test">Pokhran nuclear test</keyword>, he was ultimately elected as India’s 11th President in 2002.

Abhishek Sharma, a software developed, shared on Quora, “Once, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam rejected the suggestion to put broken glass on the wall of a building that needed protection. Why? Because broken glass would be harmful for birds! This happened when Dr Kalam was with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=drdo">DRDO </a>and his team was discussing options to secure the perimeter of a building that needed protection. Dr Kalam reportedly said, “If we do that, birds will not be able to perch on the wall.” 
 
The other instance is when Quora user Naman Narain drew a sketch of Dr Kalam and sent it to the President. To his surprise, the President sent him a thank you card, with a short handwritten message and personalised with his signature. 
 
At a convocation ceremony of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, Dr Kalam was the Chief Guest. There were five chairs on the stage, the centre one being for him, the other four designated for the top university officials. Noticing his chair being bigger in size than the others, Dr Kalam refused to sit on it and offered the Vice Chancellor to sit in stead. Immediately, another chair was made available for the ‘People’s president.’ 
 Another action that displays down-to-earth demeanour of Dr Kalam is that during his first visit to <keyword id="165422" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trivandrum">Trivandrum</keyword> as the then President, he was entitled to invite anyone as the “Presidential Guests” to Kerala’s <keyword id="138" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raj-Bhavan">Raj Bhavan</keyword>. And as Dr Kalam had spent a significant time as a scientist in Trivandrum, he invited a road-side cobbler – who was quite close to him during his time in Kerela; and so was the owner of the small hotel where Dr Kalam would often have his meals. Can you ever imagine any other politician or a celebrity of his stature inviting a cobbler and a small business owner as his/her most prestigious guests? 
 <keyword id="6359039" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sourav-Ganguly">Sourav Ganguly</keyword>, who received the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=padma+shri">Padma Shri</a> from Dr Kalam in 2004, recalls instances of the Indian <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cricket">Cricket </a>team's interactions with the former President after finishing runners-up in the 2003 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=world+cup">World Cup</a> in South Africa. "I remember he wished the team. I remember <keyword id="6364325" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anil-Kumble">Anil Kumble</keyword> asked him about his subject. He knew little about cricket and we tried to explain to him how 11 men move around a cricket ball. But whenever we met him we realised that his world and thinking was different. He has become the President of India but his thought process is different from the others," said Ganguly, regarding India’s missile man as a visionary.
