Kerala exit poll 2019 result: Kerala disappoints BJP again, pollsters predict only 1 seat for the party

Rahul Gandhi had a unique challenge while campaigning in Waynad, one of the areas where he contested for a Lok Sabha seat. Polling issues aside, Gandhi battled ‘the attack of the clones’. One is his rivals is Raghul Gandhi and another is Rahul Gandhi K E. While Rahul Gandhi KE is an independent candidate, Raghul is career politician from Agila India Makkan Kazagham who ran for assembly elections in 2016, along with a mayoral election in 2014. The Election Commission has been dealing with this manner of namesake confusion for years now. And, they have a plan up their sleeve. When namesakes and similar sounding names contest, EC adds photographs of contestants to go with their name, to ease confusion. Congress’ Rahul Gandhi had contested from this constituency as well as Amethi. Poll experts had said that this decision to contest from two places is influenced by the fact that he is facing tough competition in Amethi. Gandhi had campaigned heavily in Waynad in spite of attending 150 rallies in all across the country, during the elections. Gandhi had faced controversies as well. BJP had alleged that Gandhi had canvassed for votes via Twitter as polling was underway, in his constituency. It is no wonder that Gandhi has gone heavily because he isn’t fighting his namesakes but also a total of 20 contenders like P P Suneer from Communist Party of India (CPI); Thushar Vellapally from BHarata Dharma Jana Sena (BJDS), and P K Muhammed from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). In addition, there were 13 independent candidates in fray, as well. Waynad is one of those rare Congress bastions in Kerala. For the last two elections, M Shanavas of Congress has been the sitting MP from the seat. He has now made way for Rahul this election, who had to battle with other Rahuls and Gandhis to keep within the Congress fold.

Counting of postal votes begins in Kerala, "Congress-led UDF" leads

Kerala’s first chief minister in 1957, EMS Namboodiripad, was one of the world’s first communist leaders to head an elected government. On the other hand, UDF led by Congress is trying to squeeze the BJP out by supporting the protests against the entry of women into the Sabarimala Temple. “Well, you cannot afford to write off the votes of the majority in times of political interest,” <a href="https://qz.com/india/1601119/election-2019-congresss-tharoor-battles-modis-bjp-in-kerala/">Congress leader Shashi Tharoor</a> fighting to defend the state capital Thriuvananthapuram told Quartz. The margin for error has shrunk significantly for Tharoor who swept the seat with 100,000 more votes than the second candidate in 2009. 1. Days of Congress look limited 
 
Even though it is back in Uttarakhand, but Congress has lost two more states, Assam and Kerala, which means that its days in the country are limited as of now. Presently, Congress has its government only in 6 out of the 29 Indian states. 
 
2. Only central power doesn’t work 
 
After losing Delhi and Bihar assembly elections, BJP seems to have realized that they can’t win everywhere only because of PM Modi. This is why local leadership is always useful. 
 
3. Rahul Gandhi needs another update, fast 
 
Congress scion Rahul Gandhi is having a tough time in convincing Indians about his caliber. With his return to prominence last year, which was named Rahul 2.0, he seems to have lost the zeal once again, unable to engage himself in politics the way he is supposed to. 
 
4. Saffron is India’s new favorite color 
 
Even though the growth is slowly, but BJP is surely paving its way into India’s heart. Winning Assam has made BJP come out of the tag of being a cow-belt party. With governments in 9 states and sharing power in 4 states, one can see how fast India is turning saffron.

What worked for the Congress party in Bihar, fell on its face in West Bengal. While Rahul Gandhi was able to bring Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad together, forming a RJD-JDU-Congress alliance, he couldn’t defeat TMC (39.79%) even after a Left-Congress alliance (39.64%), because of the visible tension between Left and Congress in Kerala.

While India as a country talks of its young population, Indian politics doesn’t understand this concept. VS Achuthanandan and Karunanidhi, both nonagenarians have led their parties to power in two important states. 
 
7. Corruption can still make you win

Nearly 600 teachers, deployed for election duty, have died of coronavirus infections.
