India’s own <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> International Airport (BIAL) has announced its plans of upgrading security measures to include <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru/bengaluru-airport-to-launch-facial-recognition-facility-from-2019/articleshow/65707365.cms">biometric self-boarding technology</a>, or simply put, facial recognition. In a partnership with Vision-Box, a biometrics solutions service provider, BIAL has plans of rolling out paperless boarding for select airlines starting next year. The initiative is in-line with the government’s DigiYatra scheme that aims to minimise paperwork for air travel under a digital system for airport entry and boarding flights. India’s first paperless airport Facial recognition seems to be the second most trending term in technology after artificial intelligence (AI). While a lot of airports around the world already implement paperless boarding, India is yet to take-off on this initiative. DigiYatra has already started installing their automated security system in Varanasi at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport where the airport director, AK Rai, has speculated that the airport will be ready go live with their services by October. In addition, the DigiYatra scheme will also extend to the Visakhapatnam airport and the Kolkata airport as well. That being said, government projects run the risk of not being on time, so there’s a high possibility that BIAL might actually be India’s first paperless boarding airport. The first phase of their roll-out will include Jet Airways, Spice Jet and Air Asia in the first quarter of 2019. If done on time, BIAL could be the first airport to have a end-to-end solution of paperless air travel.

That being said, India’s aviation sector is set to grow even further if the UDAN international draft scheme is implemented to promote international air travel from smaller cities.

"We have entered into a 10-year partnership with IBM's 's global business services arm to digitise our IT network for operating the Kempegowda airport," said <keyword id="436900" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bangalore-International-Airport-Ltd">Bangalore International Airport Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="56145" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BIAL">BIAL</keyword>), a public-private consortium that operates the country's third largest airport, in a statement here. Red Hat automation and Kyndryl, an entity of IBM's managed infrastructure services business, will partner with the US-based IT behemoth to create an airport in a box platform to transform the travel experience of passengers. "As one of the fastest-growing airports, we needed a nimble, scalable and cost-competitive technology to handle growth in passenger traffic in the future, with operational flexibility," said the operator. The new platform is expected to improve the operator's employee productivity, better utilisation of its IT assets, reduce costs through inventory control and improved incident management. "The IBM platform will support the operator's business growth and generate AI (artificial intelligence)-powered insights from IBM Maximo enterprise asset management technology to optimise inventory management and the cost of ownership," said BIAL in the statement. When the platform goes operational and enhances travel experience of fliers, the twin partners plan to advance the platform for the transformation of global travel and transportation industry. "The partnership with IBM is part of our vision to make the airport smart, digitised, connected and intuitive," said BIAL chief executive Hari Marar on the occasion. IBM works with about 150 airports worldwide and has a history of helping airports, airlines and the aviation industry to innovate and transform. Software major IBM to digitise Bengaluru international airport operations, says BIAL operator

<ul><li><keyword id="3019100" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digiyatra" source="Orion">DigiYatra</keyword> aims to create a common management system with digital identities. </li><li>In the first phase, the application is operational for passengers traveling through Delhi International <keyword id="6355752" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airport" source="Orion">Airport</keyword> and Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. </li><li>The app is currently available on Google PlayStore only. </li></ul>Delhi International Airport Ltd and Bengaluru's International Airport are India's first two selected airports to introduce a recently launched DigiYatra application. Based on <keyword id="30939" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="facial-recognition" source="Orion">Facial Recognition</keyword> Technology, the application is a Biometric Enabled Seamless Travel experience system. This application is said to make the entry, security checks, and boarding process paperless, quick, and uncomplicated. Passengers traveling from Terminal 3 of Delhi airport can download the DigitYatra application and register to speed up their check-in time. At Bangalore International Airport, the service is operational for all domestic terminals. Currently, no rollout schedule is announced for other airports, but <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/industry/aviation/story/delhi-airport-launches-beta-version-of-digi-yatra-app-for-android-users-details-here-344679-2022-08-15">reports</a> suggest it will be introduced in Pune, Vijayawada, Kolkata, Hyderabad and more by March 2023. Delhi International Airport said it's a Biometric Enabled Seamless Travel experience based on Facial Recognition technology. It aims to provide a paperless &amp; seamless travel experience to the passengers. If you are planning to travel from any of these two airports, register with DigiYatra to avail of the benefits. Passengers traveling will be able to enter and pass all the checkpoints with face recognition which will act as proof of identity. This means only the designated person can enter, and no additional identification documents will be required to prevent physical contact. Also, with no physical documents required like a vaccine certificate, identity proof, ticket and more at security check, boarding, and check-in, this new service will reduce wait times and queues. The application will also send real-time notifications and updates. The DigiYatra platform will be a joint platform to monitor and manage flight details. DigiYatra app will use facial recognition to make airport check-ins faster - here’s how to use it

The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Services department is observing 83 people across the state under home isolation for <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> symptoms, a health official said on Wednesday. "We are observing 83 people across the state, including in Bengaluru, Tumkur and <keyword id="6358119" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mysuru">Mysuru</keyword>, for coronavirus symptoms," the department's communicable diseases wing joint director Prakash Kumar told IANS. However, no positive coronavirus case has been reported from Karnataka yet. "The four Chinese people under watch for the disease left the country on January 30, without being affected by the disease," said Kumar. Interestingly, no individual in Karnataka is currently admitted to the hospital for coronavirus symptoms, Kumar confirmed. State Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner Pankaj Pandey had on Tuesday convened a meeting of health officials to review the situation and reinforce coronavirus surveillance and control measures in the districts bordering Kerala as well as the entire state. Four Karnataka districts bordering Kerala -- Kodagu, Mangluru, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru -- have been put on high alert in the wake of positive coronavirus cases in Kerala. Starting January 20 till Wednesday, 10,184 passengers have undergone thermal screening for coronavirus at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Of all the people screened at the airport, only three people had a history of visiting coronavirus epicentre <keyword id="208994" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wuhan">Wuhan</keyword> in China. In Bengaluru, flights arriving from China have been cancelled from February 1. Of the 74 coronavirus symptomatic samples sent for testing, 52 have been declared negative from the state. The 104 Arogya Sahayavani call centre, assigned to receive calls and provide guidance on coronavirus, attracted 1,012 calls thus far. "In case people with recent travel history to China and other affected countries develop any symptoms, they are requested to call 104 or health authorities and provide all necessary details in order to take precautionary measures and are requested to be home isolated," said the department. However, no passenger screened by the department is yet to complete the 28-day observation period. Globally, close to 500 people have already succumbed to coronavirus and more than 20,500 confirmed cases have been reported.

In the meanwhile, the state government’s opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also claimed that it has the required number in its favour to possibly form a government. One rebel MLA held at airport The ballooning issue has many interesting developments, today. One of the rebel Congress MLAs, Roshan Baig was detained at the Bengaluru airport while he was trying to take a chartered flight, as per IANS. “Baig was detained for questioning at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) when he was about to take off in a private aircraft to an unconfirmed destination from <keyword id="6355033" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangalore">Bangalore</keyword>,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) B.R. Ravikantha Gowda was <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/karnataka-congress-mla-roshan-baig-detained-in-bengaluru-1569785-2019-07-16">reported saying</a>. Baig had kickstarted the crisis by tendering his resignation on June 10. After that, 15 MLAs across both the coalition parties followed suit, shaking up the state government. Karnataka politics had turned into a battle ground after MLAs resigned from the ruling government. However, the speaker did not accept the resignations terming saying that it violates constitutional rights. The MLAs had accused the Speaker Ramesh Kumar of not accepting their resignations, even when they were in accordance with the Indian constitution. “We are now 15 MLAs who want to resign but there is no formal acceptance by Speaker. Idea is not to defect, but resign so that we can go back to public and contest,” said Mukul Rohatagi, earlier told a Supreme Court bench which includes Chief Justice <keyword id="245445" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ranjan-Gogoi">Ranjan Gogoi</keyword>.
