<p>Rutherford has tapped her TV salary savings dry after having to spend "millions of dollars" fighting a four-year <keyword id="62710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="custody-battle">custody battle</keyword> against her ex-husband, <span>German businessman Daniel Giersch </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">— </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">who lives with her two young children in France.</span></p>
<p>A California family court judge ordered Rutherford’s six-year-old son Hermes and her three-year-old daughter Helena to live in France with their father after his visa was revoked for reasons still unknown (<a href="http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2012/09/two-american-kids-shipped-to-france-in-one-of-the-worst-custody-decisions-ever/" target="_blank">but reported shady business dealings</a>).</p>
<p><span><span>ABC News called the decision “</span><a href="http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2012/09/two-american-kids-shipped-to-france-in-one-of-the-worst-custody-decisions-ever/" target="_blank">one of the worst custody decisions ever</a><span>.”</span></span></p>
<p>"They can come back and visit me during their holidays in the summer, but I have no idea when my children are actually going to be able to come back and live in the United States," <a href="http://www.eonline.com/videos/206367/kelly-rutherford-on-brink-of-bankruptcy" target="_blank">Rutherford opened up to E! News</a>.</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"I've traveled 40 times to either facilitate contact with their dad or visit them and bring them back and forth and paid for everything," Rutherford continued. "<span>Every penny from 'Gossip Girl,' my pension, my stocks, it's all been spent fighting for my children."</span><span></span></span></p>
<p>Rutherford tells E! she has spent everything fighting this custody battle, and has little left: <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">I'm actually living with a friend because I can't afford an apartment right now because I've spent every penny on this."</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">A friend of Rutherford brought the actress' fight to Change.org with a plea to <a href="https://www.change.org/kellyskids" target="_blank"><span>"Bring Kelly Rutherford's Children Home."</span></a></span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Rutherford has a child custody hearing in September where she hopes to convince a judge to allow the children to live with her in New York.</span></span></p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Quiet luxury was everywhere at Badgley Mischka's runway show during New York Fashion Week.</li><li>Influencers, celebrities, and fashion fans told BI they think the trend is timeless.</li></ul><p>When Badgley Mischka took over the Starrett-Lehigh Building in New York City, one thing was clear: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quiet-status-symbols-popular-in-homes-2024-1">quiet luxury</a> is here to stay.</p><p>Influencers, celebrities, and friends of the designers packed into the industrial venue on Saturday, carrying designer purses in hand and wearing chic coats on their backs.</p><p>"Gossip Girl" star Kelly Rutherford mingled with Jonathan Cheban of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" fame, and Adrienne Bailon-Houghton shared a bench with model Madisin Rian.</p><p>The duo behind the brand — Mark Badgley and James Mischka — greeted such guests via notes left on each seat, explaining how the fall 2024 line was inspired by the luxury and reality of living in New York City.</p><p>"This collection is about the precision and drama of Park Avenue glass towers and the velvet-lined floral cocoons in their lobbies," the note read. "It is a dance we love to do, of control and extravagance."</p><p>With that in mind, it's probably not surprising that those in attendance told Business Insider that they're in line with Badgley Mischka — luxury is best served subtly.</p><div type="image" title="A model walks the Badgley Mischka runway during New York Fashion Week." height="2268" width="3024" msid="107639336" hostid="261"></div><p>"Quiet luxury speaks for itself. I feel like less is more," influencer Daisy Marquez told BI.</p><p>Elizabeth Woods, the mom and manager of Jordyn Woods, agreed. Because she usually prefers shopping on a budget, she doesn't flaunt her more expensive pieces when she wears them.</p><p>"I'm always quiet luxury," she said while pointing to her Cartier glasses, which were a gift from her daughter Jordyn.</p><div type="image" title="Elizabeth Woods attends the Badgley Mischka runway show during New York Fashion Week." height="2000" width="1500" msid="107639338" hostid="261"></div><p>And Dhaval Bhanusali, the dermatologist behind Hailey Bieber's skincare line Rhode, was right there with her.</p><p>"I think there's a fine appreciation for art that's important, but a lot of times, you don't necessarily have to shout it from the rooftops," he said. "I will always go with quiet luxury."</p><h2>The loud rise of quiet luxury</h2><p>A few months into 2023, quiet luxury emerged as a major trend.</p><p>Thomaï Serdari, the director of the fashion and luxury MBA program at NYU's Stern School of Business, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quiet-luxury-explained-which-brands-will-benefit-2023-4">previously told BI</a> that the trend consists of "the highest quality" clothing that's timeless, sophisticated, and simple.</p><p>Think neutral colors and thick fabrics. Now pair them with classic accessories: gold jewelry, black sunglasses, and leather purses. You've got yourself the ultimate quiet-luxury look.</p><p>Some also describe it as the "old money" aesthetic, or dressing like a wealthy fashion icon from decades past. Members of Gen Z, like <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sofia-richie-style-how-to-dress-old-money-trend-2023-6">Sofia Richie,</a> are especially fond of the style.</p><div type="image" title="Sofia Richie in New York City on September 9, 2023." height="777" width="1164" msid="107639339" hostid="261"></div><p>Of course, it hasn't risen to the top without competition. Though <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quiet-status-symbols-popular-this-year-2024-1?mrfhud=true">quiet-luxury status symbols</a> are everywhere in 2024, some fashion fans are making the case for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.vogue.com.au/fashion/news/loud-luxury-trend/image-gallery/3ed0158e3735827d058ad101114f29ce">loud luxury</a> looks — or outfits that feature logos, out-there silhouettes, and bolder colors more prominently.</p><p>"Quiet luxury had its moment, and the moment has passed," costume designer and stylist Molly Farrell-Savage told BI. "I'm from Connecticut, where quiet luxury is <em>the </em>thing, so I just see so much that I'm over it."</p><p>But even fashion fans who understand loud luxury say it's still not the best look.</p><p>Eva Marcille, a former "America's Next Top Model" winner and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star, told BI that quiet luxury will always remain the ultimate sign of style.</p><p>"I think people want to go loud luxury because, after COVID and everything that's happened, there's fashion from two seasons that we couldn't wear," Marcille said. "But less is more. It's still all about simplicity."</p>

Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen threw a Bollywood-themed yacht party attended by celebrities and supermodels

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>With an <a href="http://www.forbes.com/profile/paul-allen/">estimated net worth</a> of $17.5 billion, Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen can afford some expensive toys.<p>His 414-foot yacht, "Octopus," has to be one of the best billionaire toys around.&#xa0;</p><p>Fully equipped with a pool, two helicopters, a movie theater, basketball court, recording studio, and <a href="http://www.superyachts.com/motor-yacht-3412/octopus.htm">accommodations for 26</a> guests in 41 suites, Octopus makes for an extremely luxurious escape.&#xa0;</p><p>We've rounded up some of the yacht's craziest features here.</p><h2>1. It cost Allen about $200 million to build.</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Octopus is said to have cost Allen <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/world-most-expensive-yachts-2015-3">up to $200 million</a>.&#xa0;Custom-built by German shipbuilders&#xa0;<a href="http://www.yachtcharterfleet.com/luxury-charter-yacht-23103/octopus.htm">Lurssen</a>&#xa0;over several years, it was officially launched in 2003.<h2>2. It costs an estimated $384,000 a week to operate.</h2><p>Yacht owners are expected to&#xa0;<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-it-costs-to-operate-a-luxury-yacht-2013-3">pay approximately 10%</a> of the original purchase price each year to cover basic maintenance and operations.</p><p>By that logic, Allen pays about $384,000 a week to keep Octopus in tiptop shape. That adds up to approximately $20 million a year, according to <a href="http://www.newyorksocialdiary.com/social-diary/2009/the-octopus-lore">New York Social Diary</a>.</p><h2>3. It weighs more than 9,000 tons.&#xa0;</h2><p>Measuring a whopping 414 feet, Octopus is&#xa0;<a href="http://www.boatinternational.com/yachts/the-register/top-200-largest-yachts--25027?page=19">one of the biggest private yachts</a> in the world. According to <a href="http://www.boatinternational.com/yachts/the-register/top-200-largest-yachts--25027?page=19">Boat International</a>, it was the largest when it launched in 2003, though yachts belonging to David Geffen and Roman Abramovich have since surpassed it.</p><h2>4. He employs a permanent staff of 60.</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Keeping such a massive operation running requires a lot of helping hands: captains, first mate, engineers, deckhands, in addition to chefs and stewardesses.<p>The yacht has 28 cabins just for the crew, the Superyacht Times <a href="http://www.superyachttimes.com/yachts/details/348">reports.</a>&#xa0;</p><h2>5. The tender - a boat used to shuttle guests between the yacht and the shore - is 63 feet long.</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>In keeping with the sea creature theme, Octopus' tender is called "Man-of-War." At <a href="http://www.forbes.com/pictures/egim45gjd/octopus/">63 feet long</a>, it's a decently sized boat itself.<h2>6. It has two submarines.</h2><p>Allen&#xa0;<a href="http://www.vulcan.com/areas-of-practice/technology-science/key-initiatives/octopus-overview-%281%29">has said</a>&#xa0;that Octopus is "less a Bentley than a Range Rover" because of the state-of-the art exploration equipment onboard.</p><p>According to <a href="http://www.vulcan.com/areas-of-practice/technology-science/key-initiatives/octopus-overview-%281%29">Vulcan</a>, one of the submarines, called Pagoo, can dive for up to eight hours and accommodate 10 people. It's stored in an interior dock on the bottom of the yacht.</p><div><div></div></div><p class="embed-spacer"></p><p class="embed-spacer">A second submarine, called the Octo ROV, can be remotely controlled and dive up to 8,843 feet. The ROV <a href="http://www.vulcan.com/areas-of-practice/technology-science/key-initiatives/octopus-overview-%281%29">has been loaned out</a>&#xa0;for Google Earth's "<a href="http://www.google.com/earth/explore/showcase/ocean.html">Explore the Ocean</a>" project and for a documentary on the Discovery Science Channel.&#xa0;</p><h2><span><span>7. A crew discovered a Japanese battleship with one of them.</span></span></h2><p>In March, Allen <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/octopus-yacht-paul-allen-used-to-find-a-wwii-battleship-2015-3">announced</a> that a crew onboard Octopus&#xa0;had located a WWII-era battleship at the bottom of the ocean in the Philippines.</p><p>It wasn't the first time Octopus has been used for purposes beyond entertainment for Allen and his inner circle. In 2012, <a href="http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-hampshire-19479556">Allen loaned</a> the yacht to the Royal Navy in an effort to find a bell from a British WWII-era battleship. The search was eventually called off due to bad weather.</p><p>Octopus is also a member of the Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue, which means that it can be used to assist other boats in distress.&#xa0;</p><h2><span><span>8.
