- Can you explain the hiring process via JobAssist right from the time your placement cell showcases the resume of a Simplilearn Graduate to companies till the final hiring takes place? 
 
We are offering JobAssist exclusively to our learners upon successfully completing the course. On course completion, professionals interested in new opportunities will apply for JobAssist through our website. They would be required to share details with our placement team regarding their experience and career journey. Our team actively engages with leading companies in our JobAssist domains and looks at mapping the openings they are aware of with relevant profiles of professionals. It will share the relevant resumes with the companies. 
 
Once the resumes are shared, the companies will further screen the candidates based on parameters such as performance, experience, and other requirements as each company has its own guidelines. Once a candidate will be shortlisted for an interview, a representative of the specific recruiting company as well as someone from the Simplilearn JobAssist team will coordinate with our student on next steps and rest of the process. 
 
The JobAssist process continues for a period of 12 months or until the candidate gets a job offer through the JobAssist process or decides to opt out of the process due to any other career developments.

A year-long-ban imposed on at least 30 startups from taking part in placement process in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has n0t deterred them for scouting top talent from the premier institute. These banned startups are still looking forward to rope in fresh graduates from IITs. 
 Many companies were blacklisted by the All <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> Placement Committee (<keyword id="3378863" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIPC">AIPC</keyword>) and they weren’t allowed to take part in the campus placement process because of delayed joining dates. Some startups had even cancelled offer letters. 
 "It was unfair to ban us without issuing any warning. This ban will not prevent us from taking top talent from the IITs,” <keyword id="1845257" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jasminder-Singh-Gulati">Jasminder Singh Gulati</keyword>, chief executive of <keyword id="1845256" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NowFloats">NowFloats</keyword>, told ET. 
 NewFloats is still planning on <keyword id="6357342" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hiring">hiring</keyword> fresh talent from IITs. 
 
 "Startups like ours need premier engineering talent to thrive in the competition and even the IIT students are looking forward to join startups like ours. Students from the IITs are reaching out to us in any case despite the official ban.” <keyword id="3746380" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vinay-dalal">Vinay Dalal</keyword>, director of <keyword id="3598980" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mera-Hunar">Mera Hunar</keyword>, told ET. 
 
Dalal also said that famous and big startups were given a chance to explain and smaller ones weren’t. 
 "This year, we are looking at lateral hires as we have a few positions open that need experience too.” <keyword id="3085588" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vir-Kashyap">Vir Kashyap</keyword>, chief operating officer at Babajobs, told ET. 
 
However, AIPC will not revoke the ban most probably. "We are just protecting students' welfare. Companies have no right behaving unprofessionally with students,” a spokesperson for AIPC told ET.

Startups that were banned from placement process are still planning to hire IITians

It's natural for startups to feel skeptical when entering a space which has not taken off yet or has a poor track record, but that is also where some of the biggest opportunities lie.  At a time when others were struggling to find the right model and make their mark in the Indian market, Simplilearn had got it right not just in India, but globally. In a candid chat with <keyword id="687315" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kashyap-Dalal">Kashyap Dalal</keyword>, the Chief Business Officer at Simplilearn, we learnt some of the reasons why this Ed-Tech portal proved to be the best in the crowd: 
 
The idea with which this Startup was launched 
"The entire business started off more with the realization that there are sectors which are developing and growing so fast that normal academia does not have the ability to adapt to its pace. Typically, the cycle of curriculum updation at schools and colleges is 3 to 5 years. However, if you have to look at emerging fields like big data, cloud computing etc, every six months there's something new which is very critical for people to know. This is the reason we are clearly focused on extending education in some of these fast emerging technology areas," says Kashyap. 
 
The Market they decided to cater to and why 
He shares that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Certificate-courses-for-your-career/articleshow/53618254.cms">Simplilearn customers are working professionals</a>. 
 
“The goal is to give them competency in emerging fields so that they can go ahead in their career. Right from the beginning, we have been focused on building our courses in such a way that people who use Simplilearn get hands-on skills, and not just theoretical knowledge. We build courses thinking – if I wanted a person in my Big Data Team, what should he know. Apart from the professionals, the other market that we cater to is enterprises who want to train an entire team. This is again a very large line of business for us," says Kashyap.

They wanted people who are “on top of their game”. 
 
Kashyap says – “It is just incidental that most of the experts we have are based in the US. We just want people who are really on the cutting edge of the field and who can predict the future, as opposed to someone who is stuck in legacy systems. Their experience and knowledge helps us be on the cutting edge as well.” 
 This forms one of the major reasons for Simplilearn’s success. We asked him how they were able to rope in thought leaders like <keyword id="3565625" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="joseph-steinberg">Joseph Steinberg</keyword>. What Kashyap said makes for one more crucial success mantra and that is..... 
 
This Ed-Tech portal didn’t go the typical way 
“Simplilearn started off on a global level. It is different compared to companies which start in India and then test the waters globally. Because the online footprint of Simplilearn is not that of an Indian startup, things have not been as difficult for us. More importantly, when you tell someone about your company, they don’t see where it is based; they see the online footprint and what people are talking about you. If it looks great to them, there is no reason why they would feel skeptical about joining us and I think that is what happened with us too,” says Kashyap. 
 
Experts here are just not consultants, they are Advisory Board members 
He adds – “Also, we give our experts the opportunity to become our business partners. They are not with us for part time assignments or on a consulting basis; they are our Advisory Board members. Therefore, we make it really very meaning for them to associate with us. It’s simple; you need to have technology and a very large set up to be able to run a business. We tell them we have it, you give us the expertise and knowledge and we will drive the business.” 
 
The Way Simplilearn Courses were built 
Their courses are highest on engagement. There are reasons behind this, Kashyap explains – “When a person starts a Simplilearn course, he decides his study plan, whether he wants to devote 3 or 6 hours a week to the course depending on his personal comfort. The system immediately starts building his course according to the inputs provided. On not adhering to the plan, reminder emails would go to him. More importantly, the courses are designed in a way that the first 15-20 minutes can get a user excited about pursuing it. It would talk about the industry, the high end education that the course will cover in the module and builds that entire context as to why it makes sense to do the course. So, before even starting out, the person has a bird’s eye view on the path he is going to take and that makes it very easy for them to adopt the course and stay on, otherwise often when suddenly online courses dive into hard core learning aspects, user loses interest because he fails to understand what is being taught.” 
 
With nearly 40% revenues coming from both the US and the Indian market, even as this online education portal has become the market leader in India and is striving to sustain its place, in the US, Kashyap says, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done considering the dynamics there are different and the US market definitely has more competition in the Ed-tech space. 
 
This company has a 70% course completion rate as opposed to rivals who are still at 14-15%, and you now know how folks at Simplilearn have been able to strike a chord with India’s professional community and stay ahead of the curve.

Several players are extending education to empower working professionals/enterprises with better skills that can help them feel more confident or land them with better projects/increase productivity of the organization as a whole. One such player, one of the biggest in the Indian market, <keyword id="1309724" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Simplilearn">Simplilearn</keyword>, recently undertook a study of over 10,000 working professionals in India and built what it called the 'Career Impact Survey 2016' which has answers (in the form of key findings) to all your questions if you are worrying about the potential of certificate courses in up skilling: 
 79% of professionals who completed a certification, the report says, confirm tangible impact (like pay hike, promotions etc) on their career growth. Such professionals are almost twice as likely to receive frequent pay-raises than their non-certified peers. 6 out of 10 <keyword id="3555245" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="certified-professionals">certified professionals</keyword> receive a pay-raise within 6 months of completing a certification. Meanwhile, the ratio drops to 4 out of 10 for non-certified professionals. The report also highlights that nearly three times as many certified professionals are promoted as uncertified employees, and the gap continues to widen. Moreover, more than 50% of all certified professionals are promoted within the first six months of getting a certification while the number drops to less than 20% for non-certified professionals. Also, recruiters are three times more likely to shortlist an applicant’s profile if they have a professional certification to their name. 58% of certified candidates have their profiles shortlisted by potential employers. But at 20%, the number is much lower among non-certified professionals. 
 
While these were some of the quantitative benefits, the report also cites 80% of professionals see a qualitative improvement in their career with a certification. 
 
The incidence of improved confidence at work is three times higher among certified professionals when compared to their non-certified peers. This is driven by a stronger work-profile. Certified professionals have an edge over non-certified professionals when it comes to finding fulfillment at work. Over 65% of certified professionals claimed to be satisfied and fulfilled at their jobs. The figure shrinks to 38% for non-certified professionals. In addition, certified professionals also get projects that are more rewarding, indicating confidence in their abilities on the part of the employer. They are also more likely to perceive their work environment as being efficient, productive, and amicable. 7 in 10 certified professionals view their work environment as being healthy and conducive. This results from greater respect from peers and superiors. Among non-certified professionals, the figure drops to 5 in 10. 
 
On undertaking this survey, Kashyap Dalal, Chief Business Officer at Simplilearn said, "We wanted to analyse the career benefits that professional certifications delivered to professionals. It is very encouraging that the results show 79% of professionals felt that certifications made a tangible impact to their careers in the form of salary hike, resume short lists of a promotion at work. The other interesting finding was that the impact is greater in emerging tech areas like big data, data science, cloud, digital marketing and cyber security. This ties back into the fact that career growth in these sectors is more rewarding and as a result many professionals are looking to transition into these sectors." 
 
It's also true that certified professionals in emerging fields get pay raises that are three times that of their counterparts in mature fields, and these are the some of the reasons why it makes complete sense to pursue one of these certification courses if you seek a bright career in these emerging fields.
