Chopra made sure that his comments are a part of the teaser that was released recently. This is not the first time that Hollywood greats have backed Chopra’s films. Oscar-winner Alfonso Cuaron had earlier endorsed Chopra’s Hollywood film, Broken Horses. Shikara tells the story of the Kashmir valley insurgency in 1990 which forced over 400,000 Kashmiri pandits to flee. It marks the debut of two newcomers Sadia and Aadil Khan in the lead roles. Chopra is also known to have filmed a few of the scenes in a refugee camp. Game of sentiments Chopra’s choice of the movie is no coincidence. The producer who made movies like Three Idiots and 1947-a love story, is a Kashmiri Pandit himself. “It is a movement,” he said, claiming that the movie is very “personal” to him. “My mother thought she would go back after two-three weeks or after a few months or next year, but she could not go back, and that smile slowly vanished," Chopra told PTI, reminiscing his personal experiences attached to the tragedy. He also claimed that the movie is a tribute to Kashmiri Pandits. “Nobody listened to us for 30 years. Our story was hidden for the past 30 years,” said Chopra at an event. A plea filed in J&amp;K HC The movie however is courting controversy as expected. A petition has been filed in the J&amp;K High Court against the movie, demanding a stay on the film’s release. The movie is expected to be released on 7 February 2019. The petitioners alleged that Chopra’s film portrayed untrue facts about Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits in the movie. <a href="https://www.thekashmirmonitor.net/plea-against-shikara-filed-in-hc/">According to the activist </a>Iftikhar Misgar, Majid Hyderi and Irfan Hafiz Lone, who filed the PIL, the movie does not segregate between the militants and the common Kashmiris, as local Kashmiris tried to convince the Pandits of Kashmir to stay on. The movie portrays that all Kashmiri Muslims are responsible for the extradition of the pandits from Kashmir, the activist says. Chopra was born and raised in Srinagar. He had directed similar movies on the topic like Mission Kashmir in 2000 starring Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta and Hritik Roshan. The movie revolved around the Kashmiri insurgency in the early ’90s. This year might see many movies on the topic after the government altered the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/what-will-change-in-jammu-kashmir-after-the-end-of-article-370/articleshow/70536883.cms">special status</a> given to Jammu and Kashmir last year. Vivek Agnihotri’s film called The Kashmir Files, which also discusses “<a href="https://twitter.com/vivekagnihotri/status/1161473468912685057?s=20">the unreported story</a>” of the “wrenching genocide of Kashmiri Hindus” is due to be released in August this year.

‘New generations of <keyword id="180553" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kashmiri-Pandits">Kashmiri Pandits</keyword> are born in exile, in refugee camps even after 26 years, ain’t that a matter of utter shame?’ 
 Questions like these are pouring in at Twitter as Kashmiri Pandits mark <keyword id="3213798" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="exodus-day">Exodus Day</keyword>. Twenty six ago in 1990, more than 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits, or Kashmiri Hindus, had fled the Valley, during insurgency, with a hope that peace will restore and they will return back. 
 
More than two decades have passed and the successive governments have failed to ensure normalcy for Kashmiri Pandits. While recounting stories during insurgency, Kashmiri Pandits say their homes were burnt and lands were grabbed. The community says they fear the same as the talks have largely remained on papers. 
 
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Indian government stormed into power in 2014, he spoke about rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, along with various welfare schemes. Even President Pranab Mukherjee backed Modi, saying it was an issue of prime importance and Kashmiri Pandits will not be left out in development schemes. 
 
However, an RTI states the opposite. 
 
Mail Today, which had access to an RTI filed by a member of Roots in Kashmir Rasnik Kher, reported that things are at a standstill even after one and a half years. 
 
Kher said there has been talk on the same, neither the Centre nor the state government seems to be interested in the issue. As per Kher, there is no plan. 
 Meanwhile, Bollywood actor <keyword id="6533" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anupam-Kher">Anupam Kher</keyword> has been active on this issue, raising his voice against the unfair treatment.

The death of 3-year old <keyword id="3035349" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aylan-Kurdi">Aylan Kurdi</keyword> brought to the forefront the horrendous tales of the Syrian <keyword id="3082516" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="refugee-crises">refugee crises</keyword>. We all knew there was a war and there were war crimes. But it took an infant’s death to hit us hard with the reality.

She quoted a Kashmiri poem by Sahitya Academy winner Pandit Deenanath Kaul -- which compares India to a lotus on Dal Lake in Srinangar. In her maiden Budget in 2019, she quoted a Sangam era poem by Pisirandaiyaar while praising responsible taxpayers. This time around, she chose to recite a patriotic poem that also encompasses the millennial friendly theme of her Budget – that cuts across proliferation of new technologies like AI, ML and bioinformatics with the rise in the number of productive youth. It is the most loved country in the world.” Sitharaman Budget speeches mirror that of Congress party’s P Chidambaram. However, the former finance minister always chose to recite various verses of Tamil classic, Thirukkural. Avayyar - the saint of sustainability Sitharaman also borrowed from the extensive Dravidian library of wisdom. She recited a few lines from poem Aatichoodi by a Hindu saint Avvayyar who lived 3,000 years ago. “Bhoomi Thirutti Un. The meaning of this saying is that one must first tend to till one's land and then eat. One must eat only after work. Our government shall encourage balanced use of all kinds of fertilizers including the traditional organic and other innovative fertilizers. This is a necessary step to change the prevailing incentive regime, which encourages excessive use of chemical fertilisers,” she said. Kalidasa’s Raghuvamsam and Modi’s kingdom She also quoted Tamil poet Thiruvallur’s kural which says that - freedom from illness, wealth, produce, happiness and protection (to subjects) are the ornaments of a kingdom. According to her, all these have been achieved by the Modi government. Sitharaman’s plaudits also included Sankrit poet’s Raghuvamsham which is a eulogy of the Lord Ram’s rule. “Surya, the Sun, collects vapour from little drops of water. So does the King. They give back copiously. Nirmala Sitharaman balances large doses of Tamil with a Kashmiri poem and Kalidas’ Raghuvamsam

Kashmiri separatist leader <keyword id="94547" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="yasin-malik" source="Orion">Yasin Malik</keyword>, who has been convicted in connection with a 2017 terror funding case, was sentenced to life on Wednesday by a <keyword id="1593591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="special-NIA-court" source="Orion">special NIA court</keyword> here. Special Judge <keyword id="88109" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="praveen-singh" source="Orion">Praveen Singh</keyword> pronounced the verdict under relevant sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act which will be concurrent and it will run till life. The quantum of punishment for the offences in the terror funding case, was pronounced amid tight security at the <keyword id="1059263" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Patiala-House-Courts" source="Orion">Patiala House Courts</keyword>. During the course of the hearing, <keyword id="1384" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="malik" source="Orion">Malik</keyword> said: "I will not beg for anything. The case is before this court and I leave it on the court to decide it." "If I have been involved in any terrorist activity or violence in 28 years, if Indian Intelligence proves this, then I will also retire from politics. I will accept the hanging... with seven Prime Ministers, I have worked," he told the court. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the court during the hearing that the accused is responsible for the Kashmiri Pandits' exodus from the Valley. The Central probe agency also argued for the death sentence for Malik. On the other hand, the amicus curiae sought life imprisonment as a minimum punishment in the case. Malik had pleaded guilty in the matter earlier. In the previous hearing, he told the court that he was not contesting the charges levelled against him, including section 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being member of a terrorist gang or organisation) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code. Yasin Malik sentenced to life in terror funding case

This was Trump’s fifth conversation with any world leader. Pai on taking office on Tuesday tweeted "From broadband to broadcast, I believe in a 21st-century version of Jefferson's 2nd Inaugural: we are all Republicans, we are all Democrats." 
 
Pai is the third prominent Indian-American to make the cut in the new administration after Nikki Haley, who has been nominated US ambassador to the UN and who is expected to be confirmed this week, and Seema Verma, who has been appointed to lead Medicare and Medicaid. US Attorney Preet Bharara retains his post.

 Congress MP <keyword id="42749" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shashi-Tharoor">Shashi Tharoor</keyword>, the suave looking gentleman who had had a perfect career growth till he entered politics with his elite education, is grappling with the aftermath of the death of a woman who happened to be his third wife. This is hardly the kind of life the man who almost occupied the top most post in United Nations imagined for self. 
 
Sunanda Pushkar, the impeccably beautiful woman who was just 49 years old when she died, left behind a plot that could have had Shakespeare write another Macbeth if he wished to. Or, did you mention Hamlet? The kind of skeletons that tumbled out of the closet before and after her death are enough to create scripts for at least a dozen Hollywood films. Wonder why RGV hasn’t yet announced a film on that! 
 A breathtakingly beautiful Kashmiri Pandit woman who had a rags-to-riches story in her blood, departed suddenly after an almost fantasy marriage to the then Union Minister Shashi Tharoor who enjoyed great proximity with the powers in the <keyword id="26374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPA-government">UPA government</keyword>. The IPL fiasco where Sunanda was given sweat equity just days before the IPL bid, and her liaison with Shashi Tharoor didn’t go down too well with the Indian media. Embarrassments later, Sunanda said she would relinquish her bid, but continued to hold it. Accusations that Sunanda was Shashi’s proxy flew back and forth, finally costing Tharoor his ministerial berth. By then Sunanda and Shashi had been much married. The wedding was covered extensively with chosen dignitaries attending the ceremony held in Kerala, and subsequently an elite reception in Delhi. The ‘who’s who’ of Indian politics and sports were surely there. 
 
All was well till another woman came into the picture. A Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, a single mother for whom Shashi Tharoor had already taken a liking, entered the scene and all hell broke loose. 
 
Sunanda managed to scan and retweet Shashi’s newfound love saga on Twitter, tweeting from Shashi’s twitter handle, and overnight ruined his image with the information she had access to. Just when the plot was getting murkier, Shashi and Sunanda had an ugly spat, moved into Leela Hotel in Delhi to probably settle things down. The ‘blow hot blow cold’ time was still on when Mehr claimed innocence, returned equally abusive tweets to Sunanda Pushkar. Rest that followed was so close to being filmy that it couldn’t have happened in real life. 
 
By a wintery evening of January 17, 2014 Sunanda had breathed her last. The death was as mysterious as her life and the ways and means in which she had amassed enough wealth to buy apartments and properties at elite locations worldwide. Investigations began and the death turned into a deeper mystery. A year later, India is yet to hear a final word on the death of Sunanda Pushkar nee Tharoor. 
 
Few months into the new government after Narendra Modi assumed power, Shashi Tharoor’s support to the PM was often dubbed as his attempt to keep from being arrested in connection with his wife’s mysterious death. Investigative authorities have not been able to give a definite answer to the questions about what led to her death. 
 In the recent times, the case has gained a different dimension with BJP MP Subramanian Swamy sending out insidious tweets about the facts he (Tharoor) was ‘in the know of’ of about Sunanda’s murder. The war of words began between Swamy and Tharoor on the matter. Swamy said Tharoor knew who the murderer was, and challenged Shashi to reveal the names to the police. Ugly spat later, <keyword id="6358992" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi police</keyword> said they will question Shashi Tharoor pertaining to the murder, almost turning it into an ‘open and shut’ case. Now truly, Shashi Tharoor and a few more ‘influential’ names who are supposed to be in the know of matters relating to shadow play in IPL have begun to see Sunanda’s ghost. Till Delhi police says who killed her, Sunanda will continue to haunt many.
