<br />The conversation happened in response to the Indian government’s decision to revoke the special status of Kashmir — bifurcating it into two union territories of Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.<br /><br />Trump also spoke with Modi to discuss US-India strategic partnership, the White House said. <br /><br />According to IANS, Modi countered the anti-Indian venom coming from Pakistani leaders, saying that, "extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region was not conducive to peace."<br /><br /><strong>Hindu supremacy</strong><br /><br />Khan had earlier alleged that Modi was turning India into a Hindu supremacist country. <br /><br />“Pakistan strongly condemns and rejects the announcements made today by the Indian Government regarding the Indian Occupied Jammu &amp; Kashmir. RSS claims a victory in its decades' long campaign against Kashmir's special status

<ul><li>A few days ago a fake order was doing the rounds about the government scrapping Article 35A. </li><li>The governor Satya Pal Malik had denied any such order, and has asked people to not believe any such rumours. </li><li>Fake WhatsApp messages have also been doing the rounds, which should not be believed without any confirmation.</li></ul>Tension has gripped Kashmir as thousands of <keyword id="44352" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amarnath-Yatra">Amarnath Yatra</keyword> pilgrims were asked to clear out of the state citing a terror threat. What is making the matter worse is <keyword id="2479020" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fake-news">fake news</keyword> is spreading at a rapid pace along the India Pakistan border. <br /><br />The state's governor Satya Pal Malik requested citizens to not believe any news that comes their way, adding that fake news in Kashmir snowballs quickly. “Lot of rumours spread here. Don’t pay heed to this. Everything is normal. Everything is fine,” Malik <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/jk-governor-rejects-speculation-on-article-35-a-says-its-fake-news/articleshow/70458937.cms">had said on Tuesday </a>on the sidelines of an event.<br /><br /><strong>The state rumours</strong> <br /><br />The worst of such rumours is one claiming that the state will scrap Article 35A, which gives the state of <keyword id="23412" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-Kashmir">Jammu &amp; Kashmir</keyword> special status. Another rumour says that the state will deploy troops to control law &amp; order once the order is passed. <br /><br />Yet another fake news says that Article 35A has been scrapped, that Jammu is a separate state. And also that Kashmir and Ladakh have turned as union territories.<br /><br />The governor has <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/jk-governor-rejects-speculation-on-article-35-a-says-its-fake-news/articleshow/70458937.cms">denied these rumours</a> saying that there are no plans to scrap Article 35A. He added that there was no such order came from the government. <br /><br />Meanwhile, ANI reported that the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Baseer Ahmed Khan has said, “No schools in the district have been closed. I appeal to people to not believe any rumours. People should contact their concerned deputy commissioners for reliable information.”<br /><br /><strong>Fake orders too?<br /></strong><br />After the clarification from the governor, former Chief Minister of J&amp;K Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to express his concern on the necessity to crackdown on fake orders that are circulating in the state. <br /><br />“This is a very serious matter raised by the Governor. Fake orders were circulated under the signature of senior government officers. This is not something that can be dismissed with a simple sound byte. The CBI must be asked to investigate these fake orders and their origin,” Abdullah said. <br />

Yediyurappa receives the list of names by Monday night or early Tuesday from Shah, the cabinet will be expanded same afternoon after a meeting of the BJP legislature party at the secretariat before noon," the news agency IANS reported citing sources. The party's high command was busy with the Parliament session including the contentious move to put an end to Jammu and Kashmir's special status.<br /><br />Notwithstanding the economic slump and rising job losses, three weeks is a long time for the legislature to be in a limbo, particularly, when the state has been struck with an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/floods-kill-140-in-maharashtra-kerala-and-karnataka-and-there-is-no-end-in-sight/articleshow/70644541.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">environmental emergency-- floods that killed about 140 people</a> as of August 12. <br /><br />However, Yediyurappa's patience has given many of his rivals ammunition for criticism. To fill the remaining cabinet posts in the 34-member ministry, Yediyurappa is likely to wait for 6 months in the event of by-elections to the 17 assembly segments from where the Congress and JD-S rebel legislators were disqualified by the previous speaker K.R. Meanwhile, numerous unauthenticated leaked videos and images show incidents of violence and altercations between the troops along the <keyword id="49399" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Line-of-Actual-Control">Line of Actual Control</keyword> (LAC).<br /><br />“If you look at the past few years, you have two sides building infrastructure next to ache other. They are testing each other’s boundaries. This time the incursions are occurring in the aftermath of the Indian government revoking Jammu and Kashmir special status under Article 370 and 35A, which China described as ‘unacceptable’ and undermining the regions ‘sovereignty’ and consequently also raised the issue at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).<br /><br /><a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/defense/news/five-treaties-to-address-india-china-border-issue-experts-warn-modi-to-remain-cautious/articleshow/76085340.cms">Gautam Chikermane</a>, the Vice President of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), adds that this many just be a ploy for China to distract from other issues on the national front. “This time around, China’s incursions may be another episodic distraction from it territorial ambitions in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/international/news/photos-show-democracy-protests-reigniting-in-hong-kong-after-china-passed-a-sweeping-measure-to-crush-the-cityaposs-autonomy/slidelist/76080206.cms">Hong Kong</a> and Taiwan.”<br /><br /><strong>Build up of troops amid India-China border dispute<br /></strong>The standoff between India and China has been ongoing for nearly 25 days now since the first reports of violence in Galwan Valley on May 5. India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Nath Singh, told the press that both countries are engaged in dialogue at military and diplomatic levels.<br /><br />Citing the example of the 73-day standoff at Doklam in 2017, Singh said that even at that tie India had held firm but the issue was eventually resolved through dialogue. <br /><br />Brahma Chellaney, a professor for strategic studies at the Center for Policy Reserach in New Delhi, believes that Singh’s words are an admission that China is changing the status quo along the border. “China moved troops to occupy areas where not only Indian and Chinese claim lines overlapped but also where there was no dispute. <br /><ul><li>Ladakh, India’s smallest parliamentary constituency, has a surprising amount of issues. </li><li>The constituency, itself, is divided into two districts — Leh and Kargil where there is a Muslim-Buddhist divide. </li><li>Despite the duality, the constituency is a running up to be a four day contest as Ladakh goes to vote today.</li><li>During the <keyword id="43573" type="EVENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="General-Election">general election</keyword> 2014, Ladakh had the highest voter turnout in all of <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword>.</li></ul>For the smallest constituency in India — in terms of its population — ‘scenic’ Ladakh has a surprising amount of issues.<br /><br />It’s also one of the parts of Jammu and Kashmir that hasn’t faced any separatist movements, despite the violence that continues to harass the neighbouring Kashmir valley. The regions will be governed by the Indian federal authorities in New Delhi as opposed to individual state governors.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><h2>History of the powder-keg region</h2><p>Jammu and Kashmir's quasi-independence dates back to 1927, when the region's administration allowed its subjects to have a separate set of rules for inheriting property.</p><p>After India and Pakistan separated in 1947, the maharajah of Jammu and Kashmir chose to become part of India, with Article 370 of the Indian Constitution preserving its "special status." This angered Pakistan, which supported many insurgencies in the region.</p><p>Pakistan continues to claim Jammu and Kashmir as its own territory.</p><p>The constitutional provision also blocked Indians from outside the region from living there, owning property, or getting government jobs. It also prohibits women from inheriting property if they marry someone from outside the state.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>Modi's right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) argue that constitutional provisions regarding Jammu and Kashmir's "special status" are temporary, and has long vowed to revoke them.</p><p>During general elections this May, the BJP said the "special status" was "discriminatory against non-permanent residents and women of Kashmir."</p><p>It added: "We believe that Article 35A is an obstacle in the development of the state."</p><p>The BJP won those elections by a landslide, increasing its seats in parliament.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>Jammu and Kashmir are currently split between India, Pakistan, and China. The area remains heavily contested between India and Pakistan.</p><p>Many of the region's residents, who are mostly Muslim, hope for independence or to be ruled by Pakistan, <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10537286">the BBC reported</a>.
