According to media <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/bsf-it-ministry-companies-border-security-drone-attack-7386310/">reports</a>, there are over 500 companies that can help the country find a solution to its drone problem. All these companies may not make devices to harm or kill drones, but can certainly help in tracking them. There are also several military tech private companies in the country, including Adani Defence &amp; Aerospace and Kadet Defence Systems that make drones for surveillance and technology for other combat purposes; Atindriya Systems provides electronic systems and software solutions for defense, and Trijatta that develops radars and encryption devices for the military. The government of India has been aware of the potential threat that rogue drones could pose in the security of the nation and issued a <a href="https://www.civilaviation.gov.in/sites/default/files/Counter_rogue_drone_guidelnes_NSCS.pdf">National Counter Rogue Drone Guidelines </a>two years ago. The policy highlights that the drone factor should be taken seriously as unmanned aircrafts, consumer drones and do-it-yourself (DIY) drones are readily available over the internet. The policy, referring to the Israel-Lebanon war of 2006, highlights "In certain incidents, the small drones were also armed with explosive ordnance, to convert them into potentially lethal guided missiles, thus demonstrating the growing sophistication with which these potent warriors have found relevance in combat zones." Yet it has found itself short of any large scale counter-drone system. The Jammu attack in itself did not cost much, but it did highlight the urgency to invest in a counter-drone system that could prevent bigger attacks in the long run. In the coming months, the government of India wants to sign multi-million dollar [who’s saying this?] contracts with both domestic and foreign firms to procure these technologies. <div type="image" title="India has limited options for weapons that can take down enemy drones" msid="84836842" hostid="261"></div> The anti-drone technology has a massive headroom to cover Kruthi Aramanamada, head of marketing at ideaForge, explained to Business Insider that counter-drone technology is expensive and fairly new as it came into existence only a decade ago. The technology is not fully matured and there is still a lot of scope of research and development (R&amp;D) in this segment, she added. However, they have not found a foolproof system for both hard and soft kill as yet. Indian armed forces on a look out for counter-drone systems In June 2020, IAF floated a Request for Information (RFI) for Indian vendors for Counter Unarmed Aircraft System (CUAS), which can be used to bring down the rogue drone. Apart from that, other ministries and departments are also looking to sign such contracts. However, there have not been many insights on who may end up getting such contracts. One of the possible beneficiaries of this spree is likely to be Israel-based company Smart Shooter, a company that has been developing systems to help militaries track and engage moving targets. Indian Navy had placed an order to <a href="https://theprint.in/defence/navy-orders-israeli-smash-2000-plus-systems-to-tackle-drones-more-contracts-in-offing/562955/">procure </a>an unspecified number of Smart Shooter’s SMASH 2000 Rifle Sights in December 2020. However, the Indian Army wasn’t quite impressed with it after their trials in January 2021. They found that the system may work well for the Navy as they work in open terrain, but it is not feasible for other terrains. This highlighted another major challenge among the counter-drone technology — use cases. The counter-drone system is not a ‘one size fits all’ type of solution and has to be customised based on the criticality of the situation, Aramanamada added. The debate between indigenous or foreign technology remains Prof. P B Sujit, adjunct faculty at School of Engineering and Technology at BML Munjal University, said that the current counter-drone tech is limited and mostly sourced or licensed from other countries. He also noted that there are few Indian startups in the segment as well, but the quality of those solutions is undetermined at the moment. “The trust in Indian developed tech is low. With the history of India importing from Israel, it's natural to import this. Moreover Israel has good tech which has been field tested with Palestine stuff... So the confidence levels are right with the Israel tech,” he added. Apart from the Israeli plan, the government is also on a look out for the technology developed by domestic players and foreign public as well as private sector units, drone original equipment manufacturers, defence tech firms and Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (DRDO). These are the top highlights of the Finance Minister's speech on May 15: 1. ₹1 lakh crore ($13 billion) allocated to strengthen <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/india-sets-up-fund-for-cold-storage-for-farm-products-startups-are-eligible/articleshow/75758088.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">farm-gate infrastructure like cold chains, storage centres</a>etc. The fund created for cooperatives,farmers producer organisations, private entrepreneurs, startups etc. looking to enter this space. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="75758676" title="India proposes to deregulate prices of onions, potatoes, pulses and other essential food — prices won’t be capped and one can store as much as needed" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> 2. For micro food enterprises, the government will provide a fund of ₹10,000 crore. The intention is to help local manufacturers and brands, in the health and wellness space, organic products, nutrition products etc. to go global. The fun will go into modernising, formalising, and bringing these firms up to global standards. This will be cluster-based approach. For instance, makhana makers in Bihar, saffron products makers in Kashmir, tapioca makers in Tamil Nadu, ragi makers in Karnataka etc. can benefit from this. 3. Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (a scheme dedicated to marine fisheries and aquaculture):₹20,000 crore to boost fish production by 7 million tonnes in the next five years. 4. [An existing programme] ₹13,343 crore had been allocated for National Animal Disease Control Programme in January 2020 to ensure 100% vaccination of cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat and pig population (over 53 crore animals). 1.5 crore cows and buffaloes tagged and vaccinated till date. This will continue in green zones. 5. A new fund of ₹15,000 crore is being established to boost animal husbandry infrastructure development. Dairy producers and processors will be eligible for incentives being provided from this fund. Those who want to set up plants for export of niche dairy products will also be supported. 6. ₹4,000 crore for promotion of cultivation of medicinal plants. 1 million hectares to be covered under herbal cultivation in the next two years. This will lead to income generation of ₹5,000 crore for farmers. Development of a corridor of 800 hectare area along the banks of river Ganga. A network of regional markets (mandis) will be created for medicinal plants. 7. ₹500 crore for beekeeping initiatives. Government will implement a scheme for infrastructure development related to Integrated Beekeeping Development Centres, Collection, Marketing and Storage Centres. This will lead to an increase in yield and crop quality, resulting in increase in income for 2 lakh beekeepers. 8. ₹500 crore for subsidy to farmers of green produce (fruits and vegetables). 50% subsidy for transportation of green produce from surplus to deficient markets. 50% subsidy for storage of green produce. This pilot project will initially be for a period of 6 months - the government says it will be expanded and extended in the future. 9. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/policy/news/what-is-essential-commodities-act-that-nirmala-sitharaman-wants-to-amend/articleshow/75759156.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">Essential Commodities Act</a>will be amended to deregulate prices of cereals, edible oils, oilseeds, pulses, onions and potato etc. Stock limits to be imposed only under exceptional circumstances like national calamities, famine with a surge in prices. No such stock limit shall apply to processors or value chain participants, or to any exporter subject to export demand. 10. Farmers will be given the choice to sell their produce at attractive prices, instead of selling it to just <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/news/bjp-narendra-modi-nirmala-sitharaman-push-agriculture-apmc-reform/articleshow/75760189.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">APMCs (Agricultural Produce Market Committee)</a>. Agricultural Produce Price and Quality Assurance. Facilitative legal framework to be created to enable farmers for engaging with food processors, aggregators, large retailers, exporters etc. Risk mitigation for farmers, assured returns and quality standardisation shall form an integral part of the framework Taking stock of the measures taken during the lockdown. ₹74,300 crore worth agricultural produce was purchased at minimum support prices since the lockdown began on March 25. ₹18,700 crore cash has transferred from the Prime Minister's Kisan (farmer) Fund. ₹6,400 crore worth claims under PM Fasal Bimal Yojana (crop protection scheme). Milk cooperatives bought 560 litres of every day against the daily demand of 360 litres. Additional 111 crore litres of milk was purchased and dairy farmers were paid ₹4,100 crore. The excess milk will be converted to milk powder, a Finance Ministry official said. The <keyword id="459514" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vibrant-Gujarat-Global-Summit">Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit</keyword>, which is scheduled to be held in January 2017, is going to highlight '<keyword id="3653902" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Make-in-Gujarat">Make in Gujarat</keyword>' and lure investors, ditching any possibility to political stir. As the state goes to polls next year, the biennial investors' summit will present the state as an ‘engine of India's incredible growth story under <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword>’. 
 Preparations have already begun for the summit, which will be held January 10-13. <keyword id="6435171" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bureaucrats">Bureaucrats</keyword> from <keyword id="6354766" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> are already going around the world, meeting investors in 23 countries to attract investment in aerospace, defense, petrochemicals and food processing under a more liberal FDI policy announced this year. The summit is also likely to have an interactive session of investors with <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword>. 
 "The business policy announced in May, offering several incentives such as capital subsidy, interest subsidy, <keyword id="771283" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="VAT-reimbursement">VAT reimbursement</keyword>, freight subsidy and power tariff incentive, is expected to attract potential investors," a senior official, who did not wish to be identified, told ET. 
 
The summit will cover seminars regarding ease of doing business, public-private partnership in infrastructure and urban development, international development finance, innovation, startups and entrepreneurship, and smart villages. 
 It will also have a Nobel laureates' me in which more than 10 <keyword id="52659" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="nobel-prize">Nobel Prize</keyword> winners from science are expected to participate. A fashion show on khadi and handlooms will be part of the event too. 
 
As per the officials, the delegates touring the world will be bringing the recent policy interventions of the NDA government and state government in Gujarat into the light. 
 "Our roadshows in both India and Canada have evoked a lot of interest among investors. They are keen to come to India. This will create opportunities for our youth," said <keyword id="2256559" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Lal">Bharat Lal</keyword>, Gujarat government's Delhi-based resident commissioner. "The focus this time is not just on attracting the best investment but also bringing good technology to India," <keyword id="193875" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Rupani">Vijay Rupani</keyword> told ET. 
 
According to officials, bureaucrats that are on the tour to find sponsors, have met head of several fortune 500 companies till now. New areas like waste management, pension funds and energy are attracting the investors. 
 
"The 'Make in India' initiative has seen a large number of small industrial units come up, and under this Gujarat has received close to Rs 85,132 crore of investment under 'Make in India'. Gujarat is next only to Maharashtra in the number of IEMs (industrial entrepreneurial memorandums) and next only to Karnataka in the amount of investment," an official told ET. 
 
Another official said that 100% FDI is permissible in the chemicals sector in India and manufacturing of most chemical products is de-licensed in Gujarat. "This is helping us attract a lot of companies in the chemicals and petrochemicals sector," he said. 
 
"Gujarat has received 22 licences out of 121 for defence equipment manufacturing in the past 18 months - the highest in India. Also, the country's first aviation park is to come up in Gujarat to serve as a one-stop destination for aerospace," he further added.
