The Company responded to the pre-show cause notice and stated that the Company believes that as per regulations, GST is not applicable to these expenses. "Additionally, as per a recent Circular (circular number 210/4/2024 dated June 26, 2024) issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs on the recommendations of the <keyword id="19994390" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gst-council" source="keywords">GST Council</keyword>, services provided by the overseas branches to Indian entity are not subject to GST," said the company. The clarification from Infosys came post news articles published on Wednesday for non-payment of GST towards expenses incurred by the overseas branches of the Company. India's slow progress in becoming a chipmaking powerhouse to rival China is bad news for Apple

<ul><li>The Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) on July 30 and 31 across the state.</li><li>For this, the government has extended a four-day quarantine relaxation for students and their parents or guardians from outside the state and country.</li><li>The Kannada Test for students from the border regions in neighbouring states will be held on August 1, Dr Narayan said. </li></ul>Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) on July 30 and 31 across the state. For the smooth conduct of exams, the government has extended a four-day quarantine relaxation for students and their parents or guardians from outside the state and country. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Higher Education Dr C N Ashwath Narayan told reporters that the government would take precautionary measures to conduct the CET as it did during the SSLC examination. His department said in a statement that 1.95 lakh students will write the CET exams at 120 places in 497 centres across the state. The Kannada Test for students from the border regions in neighbouring states will be held on August 1, Dr Narayan said. In Bengaluru City, 40,200 students will write CET in 83 centres. Thirty foreign students will also take the exam The Deputy Chief Minister said the department has taken all precautionary measures and has framed the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to conduct the exams. Thermal screening, wearing of masks and physical distance will be strictly followed. The exam centres will be sanitised two days prior to the exam dates. "The state government has also decided that those students who are tested positive for COVID-19 can also be given the opportunity to write the exam. However, there will be separate rooms arranged for them. Students who show symptoms of cough and cold will also be made to write the exam separately. Arrangements will be made for ambulances as well as transport facilities at all centres, he said. Bus transport has also been organised all over the state, he said Speaking about four-day quarantine relaxation for students Dr Narayan said there was no need to panic as they had undergone all kinds of tests in view of COVID-19. Dr Narayan said 188 students from border districts of neighbouring states will write the CET exam and they could do so at centres in border areas, not having to come to Bengaluru, as all arrangements had been made there The state government has decided to postpone the PG-CET and Diploma-CET exams as the final year exams are yet to be held for those students, he said. As scheduled, the PG-CET and Diploma-CET exams were to be held on August 8 and August 9, respectively. The fresh dates will be decided after the final year exams of the PG and Diploma courses will be held, Dr Narayan added. CET to be held in Karnataka on July 30 and 31

South Western Railway (SWR) zone has chipped in with 270 coaches converted into Covid quarantine wards to increase isolation facilities in the country, an official said on Friday. "In a bid to increase the country's capacity for isolation facilities, Railways is converting sleeper class coaches into Covid isolation wards suitable to act as quarantine hubs," said an official spokesperson in a statement. The railway coach quarantine wards are expected to meet any exigency as and when the government requires. Equipped with facilities as required by medical guidelines and paramedics, each coach will turn into an eight berth cabin for isolation. "SWR has so far converted 270 coaches, as against a target of 312 coaches as quarantine wards as per isolation cabin prototype. This coach isolation prototype was issued by the Railway Board on March 30," said the statement. As part of the conversion, the railway zone has detached middle berths and ladders for space and comfort, hung transparent plastic air curtains, fixed bottle holders to hold medical equipment and water bottles and created a cabin for storage and paramedics near the bathroom among others tweaks. Among the 270 coaches, SWR's Hubballi Workshop converted 76 coaches, Mysuru Workshop (71), Bengaluru Division (61), Mysuru Division (29) and Hubballi Division (33). Suresh Angadi, Minister of State for Railways is scheduled to visit Hubballi Workshop on Friday to review the progress.

Karnataka reports 115 more deaths due to COVID-19

"American car company Tesla will set up its <keyword id="10759466" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-car-division">electric car division</keyword> in Karnataka," Yediyurappa said in a statement, which mainly aimed at appreciating the Union Budget that was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1. On January 12, Yediyurappa had tweeted from his official handle that Tesla would start its operations in India with an R&amp;D unit in Bengaluru. But the Tweet was deleted after a couple of hours by which time it had garnered more than 8,500 likes and 1,800 retweets. The world's richest man was replying to a tweet linked to a blog post on the Tesla fan site, Tesmanian, which noted that Tesla cars will be expensive for Indians but the cars will become more affordable for the country's middle class when the company starts production within India. In the statement released in appreciation of the Union Budget, Yediyurappa said that the state would get Rs 10.904 crore for 33 national highway projects spanning 1,197 km. In north Karnataka, 13 highway projects worth Rs 21,000 crore have been cleared. These projects were announced much before the Union government tabled its budget. The CM said an industrial corridor is coming up at Tumakuru at a cost of ₹7,725 crore that would generate 2.8 lakh jobs. He added that the state will get basic infrastructure updates worth ₹1.16 lakh crore in the 2021-22 fiscal year. "Bengaluru will receive ₹14,788 crore for Phase 2 of the Namma Metro project and ₹23,093 crore for the suburban rail project. For other railway projects, the state will get ₹4,870 crore," he said. Describing it as a historic budget, he said that the tunnel project at Shiradi Ghat connecting Bengaluru and Mangaluru has been approved. "₹10,000 crore will be released for the 13 km tunnel," the CM said. "We have been driving all our efforts tirelessly to fight this ongoing crisis and it has been great to witness the industry joining their hands against our war on Covid. In these testing times technology innovation has been our greatest ally," said Deputy Chief Minister C. N. Ashwathnarayan in a statement. The end to end tracking platform is based on open architecture using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to help state governments take informed decisions. Coming with a plug and play option, Karnataka government can choose the features it wants to use and can also integrate the solution with its existing platform. It can be hosted on any cloud platform as preferred by the government. Multiple IT players have collaborated for free to build the platform whose initial set of dashboards will be offered to the government. Six dashboards have been developed for the southern state which include Covid summary, Covid source analysis, testing summary, tests by category, hospital capacity and India summary. Nasscom Task Force consists of Intel India, Fractal Analytics, Microsoft India, AWS, Mindtree, SAP Labs India, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Sprinklr, Tableau, Mapbox and others. The IT industry body aims to deliver a similar platform to other states as well.
