Polling began on Monday morning in 90 assembly constituencies of Haryana and during first over two hours poll percentage in the state was 7.44 per cent. Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, officials said. As per the Election Commission data, brisk polling was going on in many districts. Among other districts, poll percentage in Jind was 7.91 per cent, <keyword id="57750" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhiwani">Bhiwani</keyword> 10.76 pc, Ambala 6.67 pc, Palwal 8.88 pc, Gurgaon 6.40 pc, Faridabad 6.10 pc, Mewat 10.24 pc, Rewari 6.79 pc, <keyword id="49507" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="rohtak">Rohtak</keyword> 9.80 pc, Hisar 11 pc and in <keyword id="53970" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnal">Karnal</keyword> district it was 5.92 pc. Panchkula district had the lowest polling percentage at 2.46 pc. As many as 1,169 candidates including 105 women of various political parties are contesting the election. The prominent figures include Chief Minister Manohar Lal <keyword id="900635" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Khattar">Khattar</keyword>, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, JJP's Dushyant Chautala and INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala. Haryana's lone woman minister Kavita Jain along with her husband and BJP leader Rajiv Jain and their two children, both first time voters, were among the early voters to cast vote in Sonipat. Chief Minister Khattar was travelling by a Jan Shatabdi train from Chandigarh to to cast his vote in Karnal from where he is seeking re-election. Dushyant Chautala rode a tractor to reach the polling booth in Sirsa along with his wife Meghna and MLA-mother Naina Chautala to cast their votes. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala along with his wife Gayatri exercised their right to franchise in Kaithal while Haryana Congress chief Kumari Selja exercised her vote in Sirsa. Wrestler-turned-politician and BJP candidate from <keyword id="80511" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dadri">Dadri</keyword>, Babita Phogat also cast her vote from her native village in Bhiwani along with his father Mahavir Phogat and sister Geeta Phogat. Some contesting candidates also offered prayers at temples and other places of worship before casting their votes. The BJP led by Khattar has set a target of winning 75 seats, while the Congress is hoping to make a comeback following a change in guard in the state. Currently, the BJP has 48 members in the state assembly. As many as 19,578 polling stations have been set, including 13,837 in rural areas, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Anurag Agarwal said. Tight security arrangements have been made and over 75,000 security personnel have been mobilised for the polls, DGP Manoj Yadava said earlier. Over 1.83 crore voters are eligible to vote that includes 85 lakh women, over one lakh service voters and 252 transgenders. This time, out of total eligible voters, over 89 lakh young voters are under 40 years of age and there are also over 3.82 lakh voters, many of them first-timers, who fall in the age group of 18-19 years. As many as 27,611 voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines are being used for the polls. CEO Agarwal said that webcasting would be done at 3,100 critical and vulnerable polling stations in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Khattar and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has appealed to people to come out and vote in large numbers. In the polls, Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), a breakaway faction of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), is hoping for an improvement in its prospects following the debacle in Lok Sabha election, in which Bharatiya Janata Party had won all the 10 seats in the state. The JJP had emerged on the scene following a feud in the Chautala clan in December last year. The BSP, AAP, INLD-SAD combine, Swaraj India and the Loktantra Suraksha Party (LSP) have thrown their hat into the ring, though none of them is fighting on all 90 seats. Prominent amongst those in the contest are Chief Minister Khattar (Karnal), former chief minister and Congress Legislative Party leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Garhi Sampla-Kiloi) and Randeep Singh Surjewala (Kaithal). The BJP has fielded three sportspersons -- Babita Phogat (Dadri), Yogeshwar Dutt (Baroda in Sonipat) and Sandeep Singh (Pehowa) -- besides TikTok star Sonali Phogat (Adampur). Prestige of families of Haryana's famous 'Lals' -- Devi Lal, Bansi Lal and Bhajan Lal, who were former chief ministers--is at stake. Late Bansi Lal's daughter-in-law Kiran Choudhary (Tosham) and son Ranbir Mahendra (Badhra) are contesting as Congress candidates. Devi Lal's great grandson and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala (Uchana Kalan) and granddaughter-in-law Naina Chautala (Badhra) are fighting as JJP candidates. Devi Lal's grandson and former chief minister O P Chautala's son Abhay Singh Chautala is fighting as INLD candidate (from Ellenabad). Late Bhajan Lal's sons Kuldeep Bishnoi (Adampur) and Chander Mohan (Panchkula) are in the fray as Congress nominees. While BJP denied tickets to 12 of its 48 sitting legislators including two Ministers, the Congress retained its sitting legislators while the INLD saw its prominent faces switching over to the BJP, the Congress and the JJP. In the 2014 assembly polls, the BJP for the first time came to power in Haryana on its own winning 47 seats. It won the Jind bypolls earlier this year, taking its total strength in the state assembly to 48. The INLD had 19 MLAs while the Congress has 17 legislators. The BSP and the SAD had bagged one seat each in the last polls while five were Independents.

But for Cheesecake &amp; Co—the latest startup to appear on the show—the sharks’ offer wasn’t worth diluting equity. Cheesecake &amp; Co is a Delhi-based dessert startup producing eggless, baked cheesecakes. Founded by husband-wife duo Himanshu Gakhreja and Shreya Agarwal, Cheesecake &amp; Co started operations in 2021- though the idea first struck Gakhreja in 2018. “I took a resolve in 2018 and began working on Cheesecake. I dropped out in twelfth grade. Cheesecake is not just an art, it’s everything to me,” shared Gakhreja on the show. Gakhreja’s father is a distributor of raw materials for bakery products. Where Gakhreja failed, his wife succeeded and she managed to convince her father-in-law to let Gakhreja follow his passion. Though convinced, Gakhreja’s father didn’t offer any help, monetary or otherwise, to help the two. In fact, to start his business, Gakhreja said on the show that he received ₹10 lakh from the owner of the bakery he first worked at. And that’s how Cheesecake &amp; Co. was born. Gakhreja worked on the recipe for years, trying to replace eggs with ingredients that weren’t as costly as regularly available alternatives. Currently, the startup uses a secret ingredient to replace eggs in the recipe, which the founders didn’t disclose on the show. “It (secret ingredient) is never made in (our) factories. Even today, it’s made from home and is even shipped to Bengaluru from Delhi,” claimed Gakhreja on the show, prompting Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal to compare the recipe to the secret formula of Coca-Cola. In just one year, the company opened 19 stores (physical outlets and cloud kitchens) - 17 in Delhi and 2 in Bengaluru. Since its appearance on <keyword id="1417364" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shark-tank" source="Orion">Shark Tank</keyword> India, the startup has further <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn86LfjobzC/?hl=en">expanded </a>to Lucknow and Karnal. It primarily offers cakes, dessert jars, cheesecakes, and brownies. It generated sales worth ₹6 crore in FY22. Moreover, in just July 2022, the brand made sales worth ₹1.94 crore. And Gakhreja is also one of his father’s biggest customers. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Equity vs sharks" comment="subhead2" text="Equity vs sharks">Equity vs sharks</cmsannotation> The judges couldn’t stop praising the products after tasting them, with Lenskart co-founder Peyush Bansal even commenting that he wasn’t surprised at how well the startup was doing, considering the quality of the cake. However, Namita Thapar, executive director at Emcure Pharmaceuticals, was the first one to back out, because she believed that after a certain level, it would be difficult to scale a business of perishable products. <keyword id="246967" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vineeta-singh" source="Orion">Vineeta Singh</keyword>, the co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics, also backed out because she didn’t think that cheesecake made for a huge market. On the other hand, boAt co-founder Aman Gupta expressed an interest but asked the founders about their requirements from the sharks and their investment expectations. Gakhreja responded that he wanted to shift from being a traditional merchandiser to a corporate setup and expand further. That’s when Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal made an equity-and-debt offer: ₹50 lakh for 5% equity, and a ₹50 lakh loan at a 15% interest rate. This valued the company at ₹10 crore. After hearing Mittal’s offer, Bansal backed out stating that while he was impressed by the founders’ humility and hunger for growth, he couldn’t better Mittal’s offer and so wouldn’t make one. Meanwhile, Gupta decided to join Mittal. However, the founders responded by asking the sharks to revise the offer to an investment of ₹1 crore for 3% equity, which had Gupta asking what really mattered to the founders. “Is your company’s 3% more valuable to you or an investment of ₹1 crore? Or do you value the sharks more?” asked Gupta. When Gakhreja responded that equity dilution and sharks are important to him, and they didn’t want a loan, Mittal remarked that 2% was the minimum equity stake that he would expect to hold in the company. The sharks revised their offer to ₹1 crore for a collective equity stake of 5% - 2.5% each to Mittal and Gupta. This valued the company at ₹20 crore. “I feel that you need help. My investor helped me when I needed it. Today, we’ll stand with you to help,” added Gupta. Though the founders tried to bring down the equity stake to 3.5%, the sharks didn’t budge - and neither did the founders. Ultimately, no deal was struck. However, the BJP and its allies led by Manohar Lal Khattar have fallen short of the majority. The midway mark is at 45 and the winning side needs at least 46 to form the government. Embarrassingly for hte BJP, seven of its state cabinet ministers have lost their own seats. "I thank the people of Haryana for blessing us. We will continue to work with the same zeal and dedication for the state’s progress. I laud the efforts of hardworking @BJP4Haryana Karyakartas who toiled extensively and went among the people to elaborate on our development agenda," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. On the other hand, Congress has gained hugely in vote share compared to the last assembly elections and is leading in 28 seats so far. Congress had 28.1% vote share in Haryana, according to data from Election Commission. However, there is one from India Today-Axis that has predicted a hung assembly in the state, leaving room for some anxiety in all camps. The BJP had won 47 seats in the 2014 Haryana assembly election, Congress won 15 seats, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 19 seats, while others won 9 seats. Factors at play in 2019 The assembly elections this year took place five months after the BJP’s clean sweep in the Parliamentary polls, just like in 2014. However, this year, there was less excitement on the voting day. The turnout fell to 65%, down from 76.54% in the previous election. In the general elections earlier this year, the BJP was able to garner a clear majority even in the state with 34% of the votes and 70% of the seats. The government in Haryana has largely mirrored the one at the Centre, either by electing the same party or an ally in the state. Going by that trend, BJP had an upper hand. However, the larger economic slowdown in the country has had a major impact on Haryana's voter sentiment. The state is one of India's largest automobile hubs and accounts for two thirds of passenger cars, 50% of tractors and 60% of motorcycles manufactured in the country, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF). The infamous slowdown in car sales has led to large-scale job losses in Haryana. Districts such as Panipat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Sonipat are home to many textile businesses, particularly, readymade cotton garments, which is one of the major exports of Haryana. The sector is dire straits due to loss of competitive edge to other countries in the region and that too, has hurt the livelihood of many people. The agrarian distress, also widespread in the country, has also shown its impact in the state. Still, the state economy has grown at a compounded annual growth rate of 12.67% over the last seven years and has led to much prosperity in many parts. This is in part due to the explosion of IT and IT-enabled services in the state, especially in the city of Gurgaon. The political balance Politically, the state’s votes were divided into Jats and Punjabi — the two dominant social segments. Over the last few years, the Punjabis have preferred the BJP. Which is why BJP got a large chunk of its seats from Punjabi-dominated areas Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Panipat — pretty much the entire route from Delhi to Chandigarh except Sonepat. However, the BJP has managed to consolidate the upper castes in the state into a significant vote bank which has benefited the party hugely in diluting the dominance of the Jats. 30% of the state population is from the lowest rung of the Indian society, the Dalits. They are not known to be BJP backers but as seen in the 2019 Parliamentary elections, some of the traditional caste calculus tend to break in the absence of a credible opposition. Since his election, Chief Minister Khattar has seen many controversies including an agitation by Jats demanding the benefits of the ‘Other Backward Class’, protests by many thousands of supporters of a self-styled Godman, Baba Rahim, and small-scale riots on the streets over a movie that was later released under the title of Padmavat, to name a few. Yet, a series of family feuds and corruption charges have kept opposition leaders busy firefighting most of the time and less prepared for the electoral battle. Add to that, Narendra Modi’s charm that worked wonders in the recently concluded general elections and since then, some emotive issues like the suspension of Article 370 that gave the state of Jammu and Kashmir a ‘special’ status have been largely well received by the people of the state. The opposition particularly the Congress made some gains but it wasn't enough to capitalise on BJP's lapses. BJP has the most number of seats in Haryana⁠— but the blush is not that of triumph

New Delhi, Jan 13 () The Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) on Monday signed a pact with eight other institutes located in Punjab and Haryana for facilitating a collaborative research, skill development, and student's in-plant training.
 The Bathinda-based IIFPT inked the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the presence of Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, an official statement said.
 The eight institutes/universities include Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana; Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda; Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana; National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal; Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal; Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Sangrur; National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali and Guru Nanak College, Budhlada, it added.
 Speaking on the occasion, the minister said everyone should work in collaboration with each other to increase the income of small farmers and such kind of MoU will open new opportunities for the benefit of farmers as there is great potential in the food processing sector.
 The MoU is intended to facilitate a collaborative programme of research, skill development, consultancy, institutional development, information dissemination and student's in-plant training. IIFPT inks pact with 8 institutes of Punjab, Haryana

Khattar won from the Karnal constituency by a margin of 45188 votes. Khattar was up against Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate Tej Bahadur Yadav. The poll of exit polls projected a win for BJP with a massive majority of 63 out of the 90 seats. However, there was only one poll, by India Today-Axis, which showed a neck-to-neck fight between the two coalitions- one led by the BJP and the other led by Congress. He was just 24 when he joined RSS in 1977. Having worked for 14 years, he joined the BJP and went on to become the Organizational General Secretary of the state. As a strategist with both the RSS and the BJP, Khattar remained in the shadows until he was thrown into the spotlight in 2014 when he was chosen as the BJP's candidate for the CM elections. Controversies surrounding Khattar Khattar’s five-year term in the state has also been marred with multiple controversies with the biggest one being the Jat agitation in February 2016. The Jat agitation saw violent protests and unrests in the state as the community asked for inclusion in the Other Backward Class, so as to get the affirmative action benefits. He was also in news right after Article 370 was scrapped for his comments on Kashmiri girls. However, all that can held against Khattar pales in front of the poor perception of the opposition. The BJP has ensured that the corruption charges on Robert Vadra, the kin of the Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and the Chautala family that ruled the state earlier remain etched in public memory as they cast their vote. Manohar Lal Khattar wins his constituency but is hanging on to Haryana by a thread

Haryana has ten Lok Sabha constituencies. BJP is fielding Ratan Lal Katariya from Ambala (SC). Dharmvir Singh will contest from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh. Chandigarh, Mar 26 () Poultry farmers in Punjab and Haryana are facing acute shortage of feed because of the nationwide lockdown to check spread of coronavirus, and fear that their birds will die if supply is not restored. The farmers claimed that supplies of poultry feed, including maize, soybean, groundnut cake, bajra (millet) and other items coming from other states are stuck because of the lockdown. "We have not been able to get poultry feed ever since the restrictions have been imposed because of coronavirus," Progressive Poultry Farmers Association Punjab President Mohinder Arora told on Thursday. Arora said the suppliers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat could not send feed to poultry farmers of Punjab and Haryana, the major suppliers of chicken and eggs in the country. "Each farmer keeps feed stock of just four to five days and most of them are left with little or no poultry feed," he said. "The government is not caring for poultry business," he added. In Haryana, Karnal-based farmer Randhir Singh lamented that poultry birds would soon start dying if the government did not take appropriate steps to ensure resumption of feed supplies. Insiders in poultry business, however, pointed out that because of acute shortage of feed, a few poultry farmers were forced to bury their birds, and some have reduced quantity of feed for their birds. "By reducing feed, at least birds have chance to survive," one of the poultry farmers in Punjab said. The farmers further said they were not able to deliver eggs because of restrictions on the movement of transport. The current crisis for poultry industry comes at a time when it is already suffering losses because of decline in sale of eggs and chicken. The farmers in Punjab and Haryana urged their respective state governments to allow movement of vehicles carrying feed and eggs, otherwise the industry would soon shut.
