The <keyword id="43254" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yogi-Adityanath">Yogi Adityanath</keyword> government in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> has decided to impose night curfew in Lucknow, <keyword id="6357478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kanpur">Kanpur</keyword> and Varanasi from Thursday. The curfew will come into effect on April 8 and will remain effective till April 16. The night curfew will be enforced from 10.p.m to 6.a.m. According to an order issued by Lucknow district magistrate Abhishek Prakash, the night curfew will be applicable only in <keyword id="6356039" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lucknow-municipal-corporation">Lucknow Municipal Corporation</keyword> area, and not in rural Lucknow. The supply of fruits, vegetables, milk, LPG, petrol-diesel and medicine will continue. Government and semi-government personnel working night shifts and private sector personnel engaged in essential goods services will be exempted. The restrictions will not be applicable for medical, nursing and para medical institutions, he said. People coming and going at railway station, bus stations, and airport will be able to travel by showing their ticket. No restrictions have been imposed on the movement of freight trains. Lucknow has reported 1,333 new <keyword id="8764262" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid">Covid</keyword> cases in the past 24 hours while 6,023 new Covid cases have been recorded in the state. The Chief Minister, in a late-night meeting on Wednesday, has also authorised district magistrates in Uttar Pradesh to impose night curfew in their respective areas if faced with more than 500 Covid-19 cases. All government, non-government or privately run schools, colleges and educational institutes and coaching institutes have been closed in Lucknow. Examinations, theoretical and practical, will be conducted in recognized educational institutions in strict compliance with Covid-19 protocol, the district magistrate added. Night curfew will also be imposed in Varanasi from April 8, and will continue from 9 p.m. to 6 am. All non-medical institutions will be closed. Students will be allowed to go to educational institutions only for examinations, and a strict eye will be kept on religious and social events, as well. Night curfew imposed in Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi till April 16

The Gorakhpur district administration on Saturday decided to impose a <keyword id="739481" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Night-curfew">night curfew</keyword> till April 18 in the wake of rising coronavirus cases. Gorakhpur District Magistrate Vijyendra Pandiyan said the night <keyword id="23410" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curfew">curfew</keyword> will be imposed from 9 pm to 6 am. It will begin on Sunday night and continue till April 18. The curfew will also exempt government employees and also those associated with the essential services and public welfare services allowed to work, but they have been urged to carry their identity cards with them at all times. Any celebration/wedding would be allowed out of the containment zone and a maximum 100 people would be allowed at a time with strict adherence to <keyword id="8764262" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid">COVID</keyword> protocol and the event should end by 10 pm, the DM said. The directive issued by the district magistrate pointed out that essential services will continue functioning normally during the curfew period and no approval letter or e-pass is required for them. People travelling with a legal ticket of air service/railway/ bus would be allowed to travel.  As per reports, as many as five lakh aspirants, including a number of graduates and post-graduates, have applied for 3,275 posts of sweepers in <keyword id="134769" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kanpur-Municipal-Corporation">Kanpur Municipal Corporation</keyword>, a post that requires no educational qualifications. As per officials from the municipal corporation, the number of applications could go up to seven lakh. 
 
Out of these 3,725 posts, 1,500 are for general category and rests are meant for reserved categories.

New Delhi, Apr 15 () Kanpur Smart City Ltd (KSCL) has established an artificial intelligence tool for administration work to be carried out during the ongoing nationwide lockdown. KSCL has roped in Tech Mahindra to set up a COVID-19 control room to manage tracking of coronavirus patients, lockdown violations, supply of essential items and health supplies, among others. "As the COVID-19 outbreak disrupts the socio-economic order of the country, city administrations and the private sector are collaborating to maximise their efforts towards fighting the pandemic," KSCL CEO and Municipal Commissioner Akshay Tripathi told . He added that with the help of Tech Mahindra, the COVID-19 War Room Contact Centre was made live in record time and is equipped with real-time and historical reporting. "Remote training sessions have also been provided to on-ground resources to minimise downtime." He said police, municipal and health departments are linked to the control room. "We have given a toll-free number. Officers are working round the clock at integrated command and control centres to handle grievances that people convey to us over phone. We are providing e-pass through a WhatsApp number and manually as well," Tripathi said. He said 12 hotspots have been identified in Kanpur that are being controlled by 10 police stations and being monitored through CCTVs installed at various places in the city. We are facilitating home delivery of essentials. As on April 14, there were 11 coronavirus positive patients in Kanpur, out of which 10 cases are active. "UP is like a 10th largest country in the world in terms of population. Kanpur is the oldest city where we have deployed smart city solutions. In an old city like Kanpur, challenges are much more magnified. We were able to set up systems for the control room in 24 hours," Tech Mahindra Corporate Affairs and Business Head (Asia-Pacific) Sujit Baksi said. The company has deployed solutions in seven smart cities. Tech Mahindra is also providing geo-fencing solutions to restrict COVID-19 patients. COVID-19 crisis: Kanpur Smart City deploys AI tool for administrative work

New Delhi, Dec 12 () IT company Tech Mahindra on Thursday said it has bagged a smart city project worth Rs 500 crore from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Pune.
 Through this project, Tech Mahindra will engage with more than 15 lakh citizens of PCMC in Pune district by enabling technology-led transformation to convert it into a smart and sustainable city.
 "Our association with PCMC outlines Tech Mahindra's TechMNxt strategy to leverage new generation technologies to deliver an enhanced experience to our customers. It extends our vision of supporting the government's Smart Cities agenda to strengthen nation-building initiatives that will go a long way in building a robust USD 5 trillion Indian economy," Sujit Baksi, Head APAC Business and President Corporate Affairs, Tech Mahindra, said here.
 As part of the project, Tech Mahindra will provide ICT (Information and Communication Tehcnology) infrastructure, comprising of technological solutions including city network, smart water, smart sewerage, smart traffic, smart parking, smart environment, CCTV surveillance, data center and disaster recovery center etc.
 "The first year will be for the roll out of the project. After that we will have another five years for maintenance," Tech Mahindra Head of India Sales Puneet Gupta.
 The company would also help in enabling real-time data management, alerts, and information processing to support city's administration.
 Tech Mahindra also has smart city projects in Kanpur, Gandhinagar, Nashik and Jaipur in its portfolio. PRS DRR

Tech Mahindra bags Rs 500-cr smart city project from Pune's PCMC

New Delhi, Jan 31 () Agriculture crop residue burning as well as construction and demolition waste continues to be major concerns, the Economic Survey said on Friday adding that Delhi's public-private-partnership model in construction-related waste management should be replicated by other states and cities.
 Emphasising on the need to use recycled products in construction, the Survey lauded the Delhi public-private-partnership (PPP) model in construction and demolition (C&amp;D) waste management as it supports the Swachch Bharat Mission and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
 "Burning of agricultural residues, leading to rise in pollutant levels and deterioration of air quality, is still a major concern though the total number of burning events recorded reduced due to various efforts taken," the Survey said.
 However, continuation of this practice by farmers is reported every year starting winter and serious concerns about its impact on air quality are raised, it said.
 About 178 million tonnes of surplus crop residues are available in the country. Burning of these residues leads to rise in pollutant levels and deterioration of air quality.
 Varieties of surplus crop residues are burnt especially in northern States of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan depending on the agro-climatic region.
 However, about 50 per cent of all crop residue burnt in the country are residues of rice crop. Emission pollutants released due to burning depends on the type of crop residue.
 Unscientific disposal of C&amp;D waste is one of the key contributors to the air and water pollution, the Survey said and added the annual consumption of construction materials (sand, soil and stone) in India is estimated to be 3,100 million tonnes.
 As per a study conducted by IIT Kanpur in 2015, C&amp;D is a key contributor towards particulate matter emissions in Delhi. Therefore, investing in a circular economy driven approach in C&amp;D waste management should have large payoff in terms of avoiding health and environmental damage, it added.
 A C&amp;D recycling facility in Delhi was set up in 2009 by Municipal Corporation of Delhi and IL&amp;FS Environmental Infrastructure and Services Ltd at Burari to address the waste generated during Commonwealth Games preparations.
 Since then, the Burari facility along with two other C&amp;D recycling facilities in Delhi are together recycling over 2,650 tonnes per day C&amp;D waste. All three Delhi plants have together processed over 5 million tonnes C&amp;D waste. LUX DRR

The Uttar Pradesh government has started pool testing in view of the increasing number of pending samples. Pool testing, which has been approved by ICMR, involves collective testing of about ten samples at one go. If found negative, all the ten persons are declared Corona free but if the sample tests positive, all ten persons will have to undergo individual tests. Prof Gopal Nath, in-charge of the BHU laboratory, said, "We are conducting over 350 tests every day against our capacity of 300 samples per day, for more than a week now. But, the number of samples collected from all 13 districts connected with this lab is accumulating. The sale of 'pani puri' has been banned in Kanpur from Tuesday. District Magistrate Brahmadeo Ram Tiwari said there were inputs that corona safety norms were being flouted at street food carts after the relaxation in curbs under 'Unlock 1.0'. "Besides, there was a lack of social distancing at these stalls and we have banned the sale of pani puri so that there is no further spike in corona cases," he said. He said it could be made possible due to the guidance of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a good teamwork in the state. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that the lockdown was implemented strictly and the asymptomatic corona patients were kept in the hospitals which helped in stopping the spread of the virus. Aligarh lock industry seeks Yogi help to restart The Aligarh lock industry has sought financial assistance from the Yogi Adityanath government to enable it to pay salaries to its workers. According to Sunil Datta, general secretary of the Tala Nagri Industrialist Association, a meeting with the state government is scheduled this week in this regard. "We are not in a position to support our workers any longer. We had no business during the lockdown, but we paid salaries to them, but now things are out of our hands too. We need some financial assistance to survive," he said. Yogi to give ration kits, Rs 1,000 to each destitute Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to provide ration kits and Rs 1,000 to all destitutes who do not have ration cards. In his meeting with Team 11 officials on Monday, the Chief Minister said that efforts should also be made to provide ration cards to these people. In the rural areas, the ration kits and Rs 1,000 will be given from the funds allotted to village heads while in the urban areas, the same will be provided by municipal corporations, the government spokesman said. UP government to follow Centre's guidelines on 'Unlock 1' The lockdown in Uttar Pradesh will continue till June 30 but as per the guidelines for 'Unlock 1', as issued by the Centre, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, and places of worship will be allowed to reopen from June 8. Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Uttar Pradesh, Avanish Awasthi told reporters that said that the state government will allow religious places, hotels, restaurants and shopping malls to reopen from June 8 but with safety protocols. He said that no relaxations would be allowed in the containment zones and District Magistrates would also be allowed to take decisions on relaxations and restrictions, depending on the COVID-19 situation in their areas. UP prisoners' parole to be extended amid Covid crisis With Corona showing no signs of receding in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to extend by another eight weeks, the parole of 2,257 convicts, sentenced to seven years or less and also those awaiting trial entailing less than seven-year imprisonment. In the last week of March, the Supreme Court had directed states and union territories to consider releasing convicts sentenced to seven years or less and also those awaiting trial entailing less than seven-year imprisonment, in order to decongest jails during the Corona crisis.
