The Gurgaon-based home services startup UrbanClap has a list of existing marquee investors like SAIF Partners, Ratan Tata, Accel Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners. Prior to this investment, the startup had raised funding of $50 million in a Series D round from Steadview Capital Management and existing investor Vy Capital in November 2018. UrbanClap had also recently <a href="https://bestmediainfo.com/2019/03/urbanclap-unveils-new-campaign-with-ayushmann-khurrana-as-brand-ambassador/">announced</a> that Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana is its brand ambassador. Affordability and value driven themes clearly are the pulsating chords for India and Bharat,” said Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy. The opening day sales of both the e-commerce companies were twice what they saw in last year’s sale. On Amazon, brands like OnePlus, Samsung and Apple crossed ₹750 crore in sales, within 36 hours. They go out to check whether same offers are available offline too and many times they find that these offers are there as well. So yes, while offline retailers are conservative in spending money on advertising they do get the benefit of e-commerce spending,” Sahni told Business Insider. More importantly, both Flipkart and Amazon also managed to open up new markets. Amazon saw 91% of new customers coming from Tier 2 and 3 towns, whereas Flipkart stated that its number of transacting customers from Tier 2 and beyond have doubled over last year’s sale on the first day. And it is not just discounts that is bringing in customers. “Affordability programmes such as no-cost EMI, exchange, instant bank discounts and more continue to enable record number of customers to upgrade to premium products. With more first-time shoppers from small towns than ever before and tens of thousands of small sellers across India already seeing success, we are excited,” said Manish Tiwary, Vice President - Category Management, Amazon India.

Flipkart announced it will buy eBay.in in April this year when it raised $ 1.4 billion from global technology majors eBay, Tencent and Microsoft. In exchange of an equity stake in Flipkart, eBay had made a cash investment of $500 million and sold its eBay.in business to Flipkart. "Effective immediately, Flipkart will own and operate eBay.in, which will remain an independent entity as part of Flipkart," Flipkart said in a statement. "As a result, Flipkart customers will get expanded product choices with the wide array of global inventory available on eBay while eBay customers will have access to a more unique Indian inventory from Flipkart sellers," the statement said. "Our coming together directly benefits Indian customers and sellers for whom we want to provide the best possible e- commerce experience. Flipkart acquires eBay India; all formalities completed

In order to push forward Indian SMEs, e-commerce platforms have been signing up to promote artisans and weavers. Amazon has a similar programme called Kala Haat, where it promotes artisans in the textile industry who are helping revive age old crafts. Through this initiative, Flipkart hopes to open new market access for over 1.3 crore (millions pls) rural artisans. Flipkart Samarth will also work with NGOs and government bodies to reach out to entrepreneurs and will have a special focus on women-led enterprises, differently-abled entrepreneurs, artisans, and weavers. It will help the artisans who otherwise face multiple challenges from the lack of funding to lack of new markets.
