Too early to asses, say travel portals Balu Ramachandran, senior vice president of Cleartrip believes that it is very early to say conclusively if there will be any discernible impact on travel with respect to Coronavirus “As of now, we haven't received any updates from airlines for flight cancellations for Kerala. However, we have observed a few cancellations of hotel bookings especially of women travellers,” Prashant Pitti, co-founder and executive director of EaseMyTrip. If any, this will be the third time that the state’s tourism sector has been hit. Two years ago in August 2018, Kerala was swept away by deadly monsoon rains taking as many as 504 lives. In all, 23 million were affected and the losses for the state mounted to $2.7 billion. Kerala’s tourism is infected following three confirmed cases of coronavirus

Kerala Bank, billed as the biggest in state, launched by CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 6 () The Kerala Bank, an
amalgamation of district co-operative banks in the state, was
fomally launched by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday,
fulfilling a long pending dream of the Left front government.
It will provide "unlimited opportunities" for the state
and also facilitate transactions in other countries with
considerable population of Keralites, Vijayan said at a
function here which was boycotted by the Congress-led UDF
opposition.
According to government sources, 13 district co-operative
banks (DCBs) are being merged with the Kerala State Co-
operative Bank for forming the Kerala Bank.
The UDF had been opposing the idea saying had alleged it
would destroy the traditional cooperative sector.
"All district cooperative banks have strong base. And
when all these merge together and form one bank, it will soon
become the biggest bank in the state," Vijayan said.
He also said that the bank will facilitate transactions
in other countries with considerable population of Keralites.
"We Keralites are spread all over the world. They can
invest in the Kerala Bank. We need to get permission from the
Reserve Bank of India to receive deposits from the NRIs. We
have applied for that," he said.
The chief minister also added that the bank will have all
the latest facilities, including Core Banking.
He offered to discuss with the opposition parties and
clear their apprehensions.
"I would like to publicly appeal to those who have stayed
away from this function that if they have any misunderstanding
I would like to request them to hold talks with the concerned
minister or if that is not enough, I am always ready to
discuss the matter," Vijayan said.
The bank became a reality with the Kerala High Court on
November 29 dismissing a batch of petitions against it.
Minister for Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran had said
the setting up of the bank opens up a huge potential for the
development of the state.
All the DCBs barring the Malappuram District Cooperative
Bank controlled by the UDF have approved the government's
proposal for amalgamation in their respective general body
meetings.
The RBI had earlier granted its nod for the Kerala Bank
the objective of its formation, according to the government,
was to strengthen the cooperative sector. RRT

<ul><li>Four <keyword id="7231886" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nuns-in-Kerala">nuns in Kerala</keyword> were asked to leave the convent Kottayam and rejoin their previous communities while they were supporting a survivor nun in a <keyword id="39493" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rape">rape</keyword> case. </li><li>The nuns have been protesting and demanding the arrest of a <keyword id="23775" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bishop">bishop</keyword>, Franco Mulakkal, for allegedly raping a fellow nun at the convent. </li><li>The nuns have been reportedly asked to not interfere in the legal proceedings of the case.</li></ul>At a time when Pope Francis is holding a sex abuse prevention summit in the Vatican, four nuns in Kerala have been reminded to <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/4-kerala-nuns-who-stood-up-for-rape-survivor-punished/articleshow/67564981.cms">leave the convent</a> Kottayam on 10 January and go back to their previous communities after months of protests, demanding justice for a fellow nun who was allegedly raped by a bishop in the convent last year. The accused is a bishop, Franco Mulakkal from Jalandhar, who was subsequently removed from his post and arrested. However, the probe into the allegations had left a lot to desire for. In the past, in November 2017, the bishop had reportedly filed multiple counter-cases alleging nuns of threatening to murder. Following the allegations, the survivor nun had also <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/in-nuns-rape-case-kerala-police-summons-accused-bishop-updates-1915523">petitioned</a> in the Vatican alleging that the accused bishop had been using his ‘political power and money’ to get away with the case. And now, the four nuns who decided to stand by the victim have been asked to leave the convent and rejoin their respective communities. But the nuns have taken a stand to not leave and support the victim, and have asked for further action from high court since the accused was bailed in October. The superior general of Missionaries of Jesus congregation has said that the nuns — Sister Alphy Pallasseril, Sister Anupama Kelamangalathuveliyil, Sister Josephine Villoonnickal and Sister Ancitta Urumbil — had not followed the decision to rejoin previous communities despite repetitive orders. According to reports, the nuns suspect this could be a tactic to isolate the survivor nun and pardon the case.The nuns were reportedly asked to not interfere in the legal battle and leave on grounds of “community principles.” The plight of the victim and the Church’s reaction is being watched even by political outfits in India. Defending government’s actions on the matter, Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Cooperation, Tourism and Devaswom in Government of Kerala, <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/india/article/kerala-nun-rape-case-jalandhar-bishop-franco-mulakkal-missionaries-of-jesus-vatican-pope-state-minister-defends-government-allegation-probe/283273">reportedly said </a>in September that the government will take steps in the right direction citing Director General of Police, who said that the guilty won’t be spared. The church will have to act fast, in a just and decisive manner to protect its credibility.
